hi sweetie!! ok so there’s a story here i originally wrote the og crave on my old blog around halloween of 2023? it was just a shitty drabble i wrote in like two days and i lowk hate it rereading it but it blew up so i wrote another drabble for soobin! but i was planning on rewriting more crave au stuff/wanted to delete those drabbles from existence so i took them off my masterlist,, i never got around to writing more craveverse but even now months and months later it has a cult following of its own and it honestly warms my heart i love my au even if i don’t like the original drabbles anymore :3 here they are here!

So, no, he can't really get behind this soulmate thing, because it's fucking stupid that his destiny is already written in the damn stars. He has to spend his entire life knowing that he doesn't get a choice in who he ends up with, or where their lives go from there. His fate is sealed, like some sort of fairytale.

Second, this big fat crush he’s been harboring is preventing him from living his life to the fullest. College is supposed to be the time to explore, date and learn what you want in a relationship. He can’t do that when he’s only got eyes for one person.

Third, given the first two points, he’s come to the answer that he just needs to get over Choi Yeonjun.

The question is: how?

The answer: Sometimes, the best way to get over someone is to actually just date them. Or, in Beomgyu's hopeless case, ask them to help you practice dating. No, Beomgyu will not explain how that works.

Going out in a group of five is, of course, chaotic. Thankfully Arin and Lia usually balance things out, and Soobin is kind of in the middle. He's generally quiet, but under the influence of Yeonjun and Beomgyu, he can get loud sometimes. They're all used to the dynamic they have, though, so it's not all bad.

The real problem is when the group doubles in size.

Beomgyu wasn't expecting Yeonjun to try and merge the groups so soon, but apparently knowing he had a nice time with you the other day was all the other Choi needed to be brave and take that first step.

Looking from the outside, it's probably funny to watch. Yeonjun, Lia, Ryujin and Hueningkai all seem to be comfortable with everyone. Arin is a little shy, but still takes part in any conversation that comes up, and you're pretty much the same as her. Soobin looks a little tense, orbiting closer to Hueningkai and Arin, but he's been getting along well with Taehyun, though the latter keeps zoning out and just clinging to your arm most of the time, like a lost puppy. However, the biggest surprise is Hyunjin. Yeonjun always says he's outgoing, loud and fun, but he's been acting awkward since everyone met up. Beomgyu has tried interacting with him multiple times, but only got a bashful laugh in return before the dancer found an excuse to hurriedly step away and get closer to you and Taehyun. At this point, you look like a mother of two.

Beomgyu, on the other hand, thinks he's dealing with all of this pretty well. He just keeps his loud-chaotic-motherfucker mode activated and plays along with his friends, doing his best to make the "newcomers" feel included. He might not be as much of a social butterfly as Yeonjun is, but he's still extroverted enough to feel comfortable around the extended company, especially because he knows those people are friends with you and Taehyun — a title he once carried proudly, too.

During the movie, the seating arrangement is pretty obvious: half of the group sitting directly behind the other half, each clique on a row, keeping the predictable division between them. You're sitting right in front of Beomgyu, between Taehyun and Hyunjin, while the singer himself is between Jisu and Yeonjun.

At some point, Hyunjin leans closer to you and lays his head on your shoulder. Beomgyu notices it, of course, and immediately thinks back to those few rumors that sparked up after you spent a week at Hyunjin's house. He doesn't wanna be nosy, but it's inevitable to think about it. Not even five minutes later, though, the long-haired boy by your side leans towards Ryujin, who's on his right, and lays his head on her shoulder, just like he did with you.

Maybe Hyunjin is just sleepy and clingy, maybe all five of you share the same bond you and Taehyun used to share with Beomgyu. He and Lia are not too different than that, too, so he can't judge. Whenever he misses something, he asks her about it in a whisper and she gladly leans closer to him and explains it to him, and when he's feeling tired, he's comfortable enough to lean on his best friend's shoulder too.

By the end of the movie, everyone leaves the room together in a very long line, satisfied with what they've just watched… Except for you. As soon as you're out of that dark room, Lia tries to walk by your side to gush about how adorable certain characters were, but you keep holding on to Taehyun's arm and staring into the distance, not paying too much attention to whatever she's saying.

And, well, Encanto is a good movie, but it might not have been the best choice for tonight, not when you're there. A plot where the main character is pretty much chastised for not meeting the expectations of the head of the family, and is also blamed for every little bad thing that happens? Yeah, maybe someone should've done a little research before allowing you into that movie theater.

"Ji," Beomgyu calls for her, halting his steps, "can you check my back for me? I feel like there's a bug on me or something." He even acts as if he's trying to turn and see it for himself.

She looks at him in confusion, but promptly excuses herself to leave your side and help him with that. Taehyun shoots a quick glance in his direction and nods once, as a silent thank you.

"Guys, can you go ahead and wait for us by the car? I think I forgot my phone in there," Taehyun takes the chance to say, patting his pockets. "Noona, can you help me find it?"

Watching the two of you as Lia pats his back and tells him she can't spot any insects on his clothes, Beomgyu sees you nodding, not quite catching the reason behind Taehyun's words, which were clearly a lie.

"It must've flown away then," Beomgyu says and smiles at Lia. "Come on, let's catch up with the others." With a nod in his friends' direction, he gets the girl to follow him towards the large group, walking past you and Taehyun.

And when they're all inside the elevator, the last thing Beomgyu sees before the doors close is Taehyun holding you tightly, confirming his previous suspicions about how you were feeling.

Ten people, two cars.

Beomgyu drove his Choi-friends to the pizza place Lia wanted to go to, and Hyunjin drove the rest of you, following the aforementioned's car. Now all of you are sitting around a long table, and three different conversations are going on at once. Soobin, Hueningkai and Taehyun are discussing video games — specifically sports ones. Your best friend is getting along well with the tallest person around, mostly because he's the quietest out of all the boys, and Beomgyu is glad to see that. Lia and Ryujin started talking about music, so the singer was naturally dragged into that topic. Though he's happy to hear their opinions and share his own, his eyes still look in your direction every now and then, because he still feels a hint of guilt for whatever happened to you after the movie, despite knowing it's not his fault at all. And, finally, you're quietly leaning on Hyunjin's shoulder as he talks to Yeonjun and Arin about fashion and internet trends or something like that, and you do your best to add your own comments here and there just so you don't sit there completely silent, like a doll.

Whenever Beomgyu's gaze falls on Hyunjin and he notices it, the dancer straightens his posture and clears his throat, turning his attention back to the people he's interacting with, and taking a few seconds to shake off the awkward expression on his face. It's intriguing, but Beomgyu doesn't think too much of it.

"God, I'm freezing," you mumble at some point, crossing your arms and snuggling closer to Hyunjin, getting Beomgyu's attention on you again.

He's not even sitting next to you — in fact, he's sitting directly across from Hyunjin —, but his automatic reaction is to unzip his jacket, ready to shrug it off his body.

"Why didn't you wear something warmer, princess?" Hyunjin scolds you softly and quietly, already taking off his jacket — and beating Beomgyu to it. "Here, don't want you to catch a cold or whatever."

Oh. Right. You have your own circle of friends now, he shouldn't forget that. Awkwardly, Beomgyu readjusts the now open padded jacket on his body, as if it's always been his intention to do just that, hoping nobody noticed his movement. He shouldn't overstep the line just because the two of you called a truce and agreed to be somewhat friendlier now.

"No, don't, you're gonna be the one getting sick," you try to refuse his help and push his jacket away, but he's not having any of it.

"It's fine, you're keeping me warm for now. If I feel cold I'll just yank it off of you and yell it's mine, 'kay?" He jokes as he puts the piece of clothing around your shoulders and helps you wear it properly.

You nod, chuckling a little and quickly giving in when you feel the warmth on your body, so you just go back to resting on his shoulder, not even noticing the way Yeonjun and Beomgyu are looking at you, or how they look at each other right after.

"Did you tell them about that street dance team we saw the other day?" Arin prompts you, so you shake your head and start talking about that right when Beomgyu's phone buzzes in his pocket.

"Yo, Hyunjin," Ryujin calls from Beomgyu's side, "is my phone still with you?"

He pats the pockets of his jeans, but you find it in one of the pockets of that jacket you're wearing, so you give it to him.

"Here you go, princess," he says with the biggest smile on his face, leaning across the table to hand the phone to Ryujin.

"Thanks, baby." She grabs it and unlocks it to look for something she wants to show.

In the middle of that, Beomgyu raises an eyebrow at Yeonjun and texts him a quick "told u", to which the other simply rolls his eyes.

"Here, this is what I was talking about." Ryujin then goes on to show Lia and Beomgyu a video of some kids dancing, and though he has completely missed the context behind that, he can still appreciate the talent and try to get back into whatever topic the girls are talking about.

The rest of the night goes the same: too many people talking about too many things at once, and the groupings change along with the topics. At some point, there's even a quick reminiscing session with you, Taehyun and Beomgyu when everyone starts talking about high school. Your mood seems to improve as time goes by, and by the time the pizzas arrive, you're all smiley again. Everyone grabs their phones and cameras to take pictures of the food and the people at the table, of course, and Yeonjun and Lia ask for permission to film a quick video to add to their vlogs, but respect the privacy of those who don't wanna show up — you and Taehyun, specifically. To make up for it, you offer some help with Yeonjun's camera, filming stuff and taking some more professional-looking pictures for him to post later.

After everyone's done eating, Yeonjun comes up with the brilliant idea of grabbing some drinks at the bar that's just around the corner. Most of the group says yes, except for Soobin, Taehyun and you. While Soobin says, with all the honesty in his heart, that he just wants to go home and play some video games, you and Taehyun claim you're tired and just wanna chill comfortably in bed. The idea of sharing a taxi between the three of you comes up, but Beomgyu shakes his head, swallowing the soda he just sipped on.

"I can drive you guys home," he offers.

Soobin simply shrugs, content with the idea of not having to pay for a ride, but you're not that into it.

"No, you should go have fun with them," you tell him.

"I can just meet up with them at the bar or something. It's not like I can drink anyway, I'm driving," Beomgyu insists.

"But then you'll drive to two different places and just come back?"

He shrugs. "Pretty much."

"It's fine, hyung, we can just take a taxi," Taehyun interjects.

"If you really wanna spend some money you could just buy me a coffee next week," the oldest jokes. "For real, it's not a big deal. Paying for a taxi right now will be expensive as shit. It's Saturday night."

Taehyun sighs. "Okay."

You look at Taehyun, confused. Is he giving in that easily?

"It's safer and quicker. I can just repay him later," he reasons with you, so you have no choice but to go along with them.

After kissing everyone — Arin, Yeonjun, Ryujin, Lia, Hueningkai and Hyunjin — on the cheek, you take off the big jacket and hand it back to your friend.

"It's okay, keep it for now," he tells you, but you shake your head.

"No way in hell, Hyunjin. It's probably gonna get colder by the time you leave, I'm not taking your jacket with me." You force him to take it. "It's gonna be warmer in the car anyway and I'll be in my pajamas in like… twenty minutes, so don't worry too much."

"I can lend you mine, if you're feeling cold," Beomgyu proposes. "Just until I drop you off."

Both you and Hyunjin stare at him, but while your friend looks dumbstruck, you let suspicion take over your face.

"What? It's not gonna bite you." Beomgyu lets out a short laugh, feeling awkward all of a sudden. Is he being too friendly? Is he not allowed to do that type of stuff when your friends are around? Should he not act as a friend right now? Well, technically you're not friends anymore, right? He truly doesn't know.

"Uh, I could–" Taehyun starts, but you don't let him finish.

"No, that's enough jackets for tonight. I'm alright, let's go, I just need a bed," you tell them, not liking the feeling of being put on the spot. "If I feel cold on the way I can just hug Tyun."

An uncomfortable silence sets down for a few seconds, and your best friend is the first one to break it.

"Okay, it's settled then!" Taehyun smiles at you and links his arm to yours just like he did a few hours ago. Beomgyu knows him well enough to recognize his effort to make you feel less awkward about that whole situation. "Human heater mode activated, let's go."

With that, the four of you leave and go to Beomgyu's car, putting an early end to that night — at least for you.
