Trust I will provide more context later with the more arts I make to cover this. I’ve been all over the place these past couple of months and this last month with finals.

This took me forever but was worth it. I rly had fun drawing Reiner but he was also a pain bc I had to keep reworking his face because of how complex it is, his facial structure is so out of my usual range. Also I haven’t forgotten about my dozen other AUs💀😭 Ill get to those when I get to those, I've just been overwhelmed d with how well received they are and its like…..people actually like my ideas?!?!🤨😭🗿💖✨so thanks to those who have been sticking around for that

This was in my drafts for maybe like two months (prolly longer) before I went back to it to actually try and finish it. it’s really situational for eren, he cannot take you seriously if you’re in a bad situation. if you’re on the battle field or doing anything important to do with titans, strategy plans etc. he will tell you that you can’t be crying in that moment. HOWEVER, if you’re not in any of those situations he is so empathetic!! my little baby is so sweet to you like, he’s like putty in your hands especially if he’s the one making you cry, oh my god. he would just DIE and probably cry with you.

her eyes soften… her eyebrows pinch together… her lip quivers and tilts into a frown… SHES SO DISTRAUGHT, HOW COULD SHE DO THIS? SHES SO STUPID GAHHH. super mellow, super quiet and of course, super sweet. she’ll approach you like you’re a fragile animal in the woods that she doesn’t wanna scare. she genuinely couldn’t think of anything worse in this world than upsetting you and her being that reason? HER HEARTTT, she’ll drop her nonchalant dread head act immediately and silently reassure you with physical affection.

breaks the boys heart. he is absolutely and utterly DESTROYED. his self-esteem reaches an all time low in that very moment, as soon as that one tear fell of the apple of your cheek, GOD. he wanted the world to swallow him while to be honest, he was so upset and embarrassed he made you cry! but obviously, he really tried not to be selfish and start crying as he didn’t want to take any attention off you but trust, by the end of it, he will be crying alongside you.

very quiet afterwards… he just feels really awkward, he wishes he could reverse time and just pretend nothing happened 😭. he’s like, do we break up now orrr…? he will eventually say sorry and become less awkward but, he definitely shows his sympathy through physical affection. after everything’s died down, he cracks a joke or two.

errrmmm, it’s kind of tough for him. he’s been very desensitised to mostly everything, even horrid things like people being eaten alive by titans, literally watching them be ripped limb from limb yk? the usual stuff! anyways, he does feel bad though because of course, he loves you. and he never wants to hurt you or be the cause of your pain so, he does apologise even if it doesn’t sound very normal coming from his mouth, lol.

that was when he saw you.

She's only ever been kind or gentle to those in need.

She isn't a big one for conflict so I don't imagine you'll be given too much trouble.

You first meet Historia as Krista like the rest of the cadets.

Practically everyone adores her at this time for her kindness.

She's self-sacrificing, she only ever wants people to reassure her that she isn't a mistake after all.

Her personality no doubt draws you in.

You become friends with the girl, even if Ymir is glaring daggers at you at times.

Krista looks to get along with everyone.

She wants others to rely on her for help.

Although... She may grow close to an obsession who genuinely wants to help her.

She's always been one who would sacrifice her own life if it benefited others.

Although you're often one trying to discourage such thoughts along with a few others...

She's better help to everyone alive.

Krista used to think her closest friend was Ymir.

Yet when Ymir leaves her to go with Reiner and Bertolt...

When Ymir leaves, she's still kind... but not as cheery.

She's very vacant... admitting her real name is Historia and not Krista.

Even in her more serious persona, she isn't that intense, even when a queen.

She's not forceful with her obsession.

If anything, I see Historia as overprotective yet controlling at times.

She wants her obsession to genuinely love her.

After all, she doesn't want to be considered a mistake.

She's patient with you, just trying to grow a relationship with you over time.

Her darker behavior is rather tuned down.

She never wants to hurt you or other people unless she has too.

Even then, she was still very against The Rumbling plan Eren had.

This farm will be your own little family with her.

Even during The Rumbling, she refuses to have you participate.

How Armin Represents Peace and Why, Thematically, That Made Him the Right Choice:

I think one thing that gets lost in the constant bickering over whether Armin or Erwin was the right choice during the RtS arc, among other things, is that Armin, from the start of the series, was really the greatest proponent for peace. Out of everyone, he was always trying to find non-violent resolutions to conflict, and I think what people don't understand is how Armin's commitment to peace itself represents the overarching theme of "Attack on Titan" which advocates for peace.

Everyone always gets lost in the weeds of this discussion, arguing with one another over whether Erwin would have been able to avoid the situations as they unfolded after the time skip, speculating over whether he would have been able to stop the Rumbling, whether he would have been able to stop the Yeagerist coup, whether he would have foreseen Eren's betrayal. I've spoken about this innumerable times myself, so I won't get into it here. But I think focusing on this aspect of Levi's choice really misses the point of Levi's choice, which is that, by choosing Armin, Levi essentially chose the narrative representative of peace above conflict.

Think about it. From the start, we see Armin adopt what amounts to a pacifist stance. Well before joining the Survey Corps, we see Armin refusing to fight back against his bullies, and this is contrasted directly with Eren's confused frustration, questioning Armin on why he doesn't fight back. Immediately this sets the tone between Eren's aggressive and hostile nature and Armin's pacifist and peaceful one. We're meant, in the end, to see Armin's stance as the right one, and Eren's as the wrong one. People just don't realize until the end, because Eren is the "protagonist", and so we think for a large chunk of the story that he's meant to be "the hero". Eren as much as lays this out during the argument in RtS, when he talks about how all he's ever known is how to fight, but that Armin was more than that, that he had dreams and hopes beyond the thought of fighting, beyond the idea of destroying his enemies. That he saw beauty in the world and how that made him uniquely equipped to save it.

There's countless examples of Armin's advocacy for peace, from the aforementioned way he deals with his bullies, to his, Eren's and Mikasa's first encounter with the Military Police, after Eren manifest a partial Titan husk to protect his friends, with Armin successfully talking the MP's down from killing Eren on the spot and negotiating to keep him alive. We see Armin attempt to negotiate with Annie in Trost before things go sideways, and we see him attempt the same with Bertolt in Shinganshina. And of course, in the culmination of this consistent trait, we see Armin convince Zeke to help stop the Rumbling and, afterward, talk what remains of the Marleyan forces down from slaughtering the Eldians and later going on to become an ambassador for peace, traveling to Paradis, hoping to lead the way to a lasting cessation of hostilities.

Armin was always an advocate for peace, and that's really the overarching them of "Attack on Titan". The story pushes this idea that, even when there's no chance of it succeeding, we should always strive for peace, regardless, because if we don't even try for it, then there's no hope of it succeeding at all, and we'll only ever be left in a perpetual cycle of violence and cruelty. Similarly, I think, to how the story advocates for compassion, in multiple ways, but no more so than in Levi's choice itself. And so it makes perfect, logical sense to me, how these two themes are really coupled together in Levi's single choice, how he ends up both choosing compassion over cold logic, refusing to sacrifice a single man's humanity for an ideological cause, and how he ends up choosing and believing in the hope for peace, even in the face of history's bleak insistence of the inevitability of war.

It isn't just a question of who was the better choice in terms of strategic value. It's a question of who better represented the overarching themes of "AoT", and I think, unquestionably, that person is Armin. By choosing Armin, Levi was basically saying he believed in the possibility of peace. I think that's why he says, at the end, that he has no regrets about not choosing Erwin, because he believed so much in the power of Armin's hope. He believed Armin's hope could bring about the better world that all of the Scouts had given up their lives to. Because Armin believed in that better world. More than Erwin. More than anyone, really. And I think Levi understood, in the moment he made his decision, that in order for that world to manifest into being, they needed someone who believed wholly in its possibility, the same way, I think, Levi understood that denying a suffering man compassion would only perpetuate the cycle of cruelty that had led them all to such bitter and hopeless circumstances to begin with.

Outside of any questions of pragmatism, Levi's choice was the right one because it was a choice defined by its refusal to give into the ugliness and despair which makes up so much of the human condition.

I think that's also why Armin never cast judgement on Levi the way so many others did, a kind of nonjudgmentalism, rooted in emotional intelligence, that's reflective of Levi's own. It's one of many similarities shared between Levi and Armin, this ability to empathize, and to refrain from passing judgement as a result. A willingness to understand and accept the thoughts and feelings of others. I think Armin always understood what was at the heart of Levi's actions, which was an unwavering belief in the sanctity of life, driven by an exceptional compassion, because Armin holds the same belief. It's why we see Armin be as willing and ready as Levi to dirty his own hands, to not shy away from acts of violence simply to preserve some claim of moral purity, so long as it means protecting others from having to do the same, so long as it means saving lives. Armin always understood Levi, because I think both of them have always understood that life had value without needing some great purpose to justify its existence. Subsequently, as I talk about endlessly, that's why Levi has always worked so hard to prove the deaths of his comrades had meaning, because he couldn't accept that the inherent value he saw in their lives could be snuffed out without purpose. That's a product of Levi's great belief in life's innate worth. To him, it was never acceptable or right, that something so precious could be wiped out for nothing.

That's why I find both Levi's and Armin's endings, with the both of them carrying on in their own ways, working toward that better future, still believing in life's worth and expressing that belief by continuing to live themselves, despite all the great suffering they've seen and all the great loss they've endured, to be so moving. I think, in many ways, both Levi and Armin each understand, better than anyone, the value in simply being alive. They, each of them, always fought for life fiercely, in their own, unique ways.

all this talk about hobbies got me thinking... what if Reiner tries to get Armin into chess post-Rumbling in an ill-advised attempt to recreate what he had with Bertolt?

I bet it doesn't work either, and not just because nothing can bring a dead person back. Maybe Armin isn't into it, or, well, he is but not as much (that's the real pickle). He'll play with Reiner to bond with his girlfriend's friend/co-Warrior/proxy-brother, but he's more into checkers himself (or even something with an element of luck like backgammon). So he'll indulge Reiner, but his heart isn't into it.

Reiner is not stupid, he can tell. He feels a little condescended to, but he doesn't want to stop either, doesn't want to cut off even this flimsy, mostly self-deluded connection to Bertolt he feels when he plays with Armin. Especially, the thrill he gets when Annie walks in, takes one look at the chessboard and walks back out, just like she was doing when he and Bert were playing in the barracks, and before that in the camps (with the cracked, faded set they had rescued from the trash, with half the pieces replaced by leaves and nuts and pebbles), and before that in Marley. It makes him feel alive again, even if it's for a moment.

The worst bit, the absolute nightmare of a moment, comes when he shares a story with Armin. He's in the middle of explaining some elaborate strategy to him and he starts relating a tale of one of his and Bertolt's games. He tells Armin of how Bertolt tricked him into overcommitting and then turned the tables on him, taking him completely by surprise and winning the game in one fell swoop, and Armin laughs, then smiles and then says: "Oh, I think I remember that."

They don't play again after that.

A few days later, Jean walks into his room, carrying a chessboard underarm.

"I can't believe you asked Armin to play with you, when I'm clearly the superior choice," he says as he sits down.

They set the board.

[It's only a few hours before arriving in Odiha, we need to take some rest]

Initially I wanted to draw it as a random cuddling because I really love drawing fluff with Reiner and Bertolt, espesially post timeskip BertRei one. After making the sketch I put this drawing away for quite a long time and all this time I was thinking over Bertolt survived AU. Headcanons warning.

I needed a moment when Reiner and Bert can finally have the TALK after RBA reunited in the forest. And at some point I realised that this scene should happen on the way to Odiha and it will be a rather bitter-sweet one.

They didn't have a chance to talk earlier. Last night, in the forest around the campfire, RBA reunites. They haven't seen each other for 4 long years. For 4 years, Reiner and Bertolt grieved thinking that the other was no longer alive.

There is a short break to rest before arriving in Odiha. And this is the very moment when the characters can have privacy and finally talk, say what they failed to say to each other before the battle for Shigansina and enjoy a long-awaited reunion.

However, at this point in the story, no one knows that they will eventually be freed from the curse of Ymir. So the happiness from their reunion is overshadowed by the realization that they only have around 2 years left.

Even if they somehow survive tomorrow, in a destroyed world they won't be able to live the rest of their lives peacefully. The realisation crushes them down. It makes them hold on to each other tighter and not let go.

Too much of their precious time has already been taken from them, and they have even less of it left. Now they don't want to waste a single moment. Unfortunatly duty calls and they still don't belong to themselves.

They are too exhausted both physically and emotionally, so being overwhelmed with emothions they just fall asleep in each other's arms, promising each other that they will survive tomorrow or die fighting shoulder to shoulder.

Spoiler: in this AU they will survive and will be freed from the curse, so they will have a chance to live long life.

Yall this has taken me forever and I’m still not fully satisfied with it but I don’t see myself working on it any longer bc I wanna get to other things, plus I’m getting back into coloring so ik it looks different (prolly shouldn’t have taken a break from coloring oop) anyways this is just more of my Armin Crimson King AU with details and stuff.

At some point I thought I drew Armin’s eyes too “narrowed”(?)/tired bc for some reason he looked like Levi bc of the dark eye circles but I figured it’s just the tired look in his face that made him look like that and I thought it really got it across that Armin rly does not sleep in this.

I made some headcanons in my head that sometimes Armin and Ymir will sleep together bc the trauma and things they went through before they overthrew Marley was too much to handle and they find solace and comfort in each other. However I did not have space to actually draw that more clearly, only the little bit of them here all bloody and in cell (ik it doesn’t look like it but pretend they’re in a cell lmao). I rly tried to stay true to how armin looks like but his nose is so hard to draw ngl. I also planned on having the bruised armin be more skinny and malnourished looking but switched it out to have King Armin be that way a bit instead, I feel it makes more visual sense that he looks like he’s recovering from something bc it would make sense with context.

Btw I don’t think I ever mentioned it but Armin in this is a Tybur that Bert and Reiner bring back with them along with Ymir to the mainland. This is also why he is able to maintain his hold on the throne and have such consistent support for his and Reiner’s Rule. My earlier art has Armin with long hair but this is before he grows it out. I want to give the impression that Armin takes on a more “handsome” and masculine look in the early years of his reign before he starts to become more feminine looking overtime. Mainly to keep up with his image in the kingdom and appearances to intimidate neighboring countries. Though Reiner seems to have them covered in that department.

The relationships in this au are also very complicated and ambiguous bc I feel like that plays well into their psyche. Bert may or may not have developed something for Armin along the way. Armin may or may not be using Bert for his own reasons and twisted comfort he gets from his affections with the knowledge he has of their previous lives (will explain this later bc it will be part of the plot but won’t reveal too much bc there’s a solid plot point that is involved that instigates the whole story, but Armin is the only one that has any recollection of their lives. He sort of experiences a time regression?? Some of the other characters regain memories of their previous life as well but they’re not enough to piece together what they mean or what happened)

Ymir and Armin may or may not have shared a kiss or two in desperate moments. Reiner hates Armin and Armin hates Reiner but Reiner’s other personality adores him and Armin knows it so he exploits that about him. Very messy lol. Not a love triangle or a square but a squiggle? This story also heavily involves the warriors and Zeke but I haven’t gotten to that yet. I have an art that’s been cooking for a solid yr now for that😭

Other than that, Ymir and Armin are intially regarded as prisoners of war/spoils and are tortured for a solid year before their planned Coúp. They would’ve died if Armin did not have the knowledge of the main land and managed to convince the warriors and the Tybur family to turn against Marley. But yeah…..I’m a certified yapper.🗣️🗣️🗣️

“Yknow, my village isn’t that far from here.. I could sneak out if I try.” Connie muttered boredly.

”My hometown is close too..” Sasha mumbled as her hand rested on her face. “They told me not to come back until I was normal.”

”They told me I was too puny to become one. Look at me now, I was in the top ten at the Training Corps. Takes a genius to become one.” Connie said.

”What about you Y/N? You’re from a village around here.” Bertolt asked as he kept looking at Y/N and at the chess board.

”Well, my parents passed away after my brother was born so it’s really just us two and a few others from my village.” Y/N explained.

”Oh.. im sorry to hear that Y/N. Sorry.” Bertolt stuttered embarrassed.

”It’s alright, I miss them at times but my brother doesn’t remember them. I had to step in for him but ever since I left for the military, the others have been taking care of him.” Y/N said.

”If you want Y/N, Connie. I can help you guys sneak out. Don’t you find it strange that we’ve been out on standby but we’re not even allowed our gear? We can use that time to leave.” Reiner said as he moved his chess piece.

Suddenly the whole scene unfolded as Sasha claimed to have heard footsteps, to which Nanaba came through the window to rush the cadets out and onto horses.

”The Titans came from roughly the SouthEast, anyone know that terrain?” A captain asked.

”That’s where my village is, please can we go there.?! I have to see if my village is safe, please!” Y/N pleaded. Watching the Captain hesitantly nod, Y/N and Reiner rode off, Bertolt following after them.

Reaching the village, Y/N looked around and saw not a single person wandering around.

”Caspian!” Y/N exclaimed as she rushed over to her old house. “Please be alive, please.”

Reaching the house, Y/N halted in her tracks as a Titan lay flat on its stomach and stared at her whilst crushing the house underneath it.

”Y/N, stay back!” Reiner yelled as he grabbed onto her. “You’re gonna get yourself killed! Imagine if that Titan could move, I would’ve lost you.”

”Reiner..” Y/N mumbled before tears fell from her cheeks and onto the ground as she turned to face him, his eyes widening at the sight of her.

”Y-Y/N.. did I grab you too hard? I’m sorry-“ Reiner said.

”Reiner what am I going to do? My brothers gone and so is the rest of my village!” Y/N sobbed out as she gripped onto his arms.

”H-hold on now. They could’ve survived, there’s no sight of blood or corpses so they could’ve escaped!” Reiner said reassuringly as he rubbed her back and pulled her into his chest.

“Really.?” Y/N asked as she sniffled and rubbed her eyes.

”Of course-“ Reiner began to say.

”Big…… si…ste….r.” A voice grumbled from behind. Turning to look behind, the same titan’s mouth was open and its eyes followed Y/N.

”Reiner, why is the Titan speaking.?” Y/N asked as she let go of him to turn and look at the Titan.

”W-what are you talking about Y/N? No ones said anything!” Reiner said.

”N-no.. it sounded so much like someone that I know. Reiner it really spoke! I could hear-“ Y/N began to frantically say.

”Y/N!” Reiner exclaimed as he gripped her shoulders and made him face her. “You’re too stressed out right now, you’re going hysterical.”

Suddenly Bertolt arrived and gathered their horses, informing them of no sighting of corpses or blood.

”See? No blood means they escaped.” Reiner calmly explained as he helped Y/N get onto her horse. They quickly rode off to meet with the others, Reiner and Bertolt talking amongst themselves.

”We can’t hide it from her for long, she’ll find out at some point.” Bertolt mumbled.

”I’m not having her live in fear for her whole life Bertolt. I’m keeping this a secret, she’ll come home with us. No, I still have to marry her, we’ll have a happy life together with children just how I always dreamed of-“

”Reiner.” Bertolt interrupted as the blonde turned to look at him. “You and I don’t have enough time left. We can get this mission done with and leave these Island Devils whilst taking Y/N and Eren.”

”Yeah.. we can do that.” Reiner said as he stared at the back of Y/N’s head.

Some characters embrace death and its oblivion. Bertolt finds calm when he stops struggling against his oppressors and accepts being their weapon. Reiner longs for it, terribly, but he can't leaves his dependents behind.

Jean doesn't want to die.

Death is everywhere.

Jean's decision to become a member of the Survey Corps is not a triumphant claim of his principles, it's a dawning horror that this is the world as it stands -- unless there's a change. There is only one branch that is willing to fight for the change.

Jean is willing to die for that change. He doesn't want to. He doesn't want to fight this war. He doesn't want to be in the line of fire, he doesn't want to be eaten alive. Why should he? Why can't other people just deal with it?

Because everyone wants someone else to deal with it. Everyone would rather be alive. The world isn't kind enough to respect that.

Yet. Jean joins up praying for that yet.

eren (ultimate rage quitter)

eren is the ultimate tryhard. bro mains riven and screams into the group call "i will carry!" he charges into fights like he’s fighting titans, only to get instantly melted. after dying for the fifth time, you can hear him scream into the mike, “i’m not mad, i’m just... passionate! WE GOT THIS GUYS DONT GIVE UP” while furiously typing “ff 15” in chat.

mikasa the overprotective bodyguard

mikasa is the ultimate support, but she’s less about healing and more about throwing daggers at anyone who dares touch eren. if someone tries to gank him, she’ll sprint across the map like a ninja, yelling, “no one touches my eren!” while simultaneously saving him from certain doom… and then getting herself killed in the process.

armin the strategist (and coward)

armin is the brains of the operation, but he spends half the game hiding in a bush, whispering strategies to himself. when he finally decides to engage, he shouts, “guys! let’s flank them!” only for everyone to be dead by the time he finishes his sentence. he’s basically a walking “how not to play” guide.

sasha the snack master

sasha is the adc, but her real focus is on her snack stash. she’s munching on chips while trying to farm minions and will often say things like, “just one more potato chip before i go back!” she ends up feeding because she can’t resist grabbing a snack during team fights. “i’m just… multitasking!”

connie the confused support

connie thinks he’s playing support, but he keeps accidentally stealing kills with his abilities. when everyone yells at him, he responds with a confused, “but i thought we were playing catch!” he’s just trying to help, bless his little heart.

jean's leadership failures

jean wants to be team captain (literally no one cares) and constantly tries to direct everyone like he’s leading a military operation. “okay, guys! we need a five-man engage!” but when eren charges in solo again, jean just facepalms and mutters, “why do i even try?”

marco the cheerleader

marco is the wholesome cheerleader of the group. he’s always encouraging everyone with phrases like, “good job, team! you can do it!” unfortunately, he gets so distracted by his own positivity that he forgets to ward properly and walks straight into a bush full of enemies. “oops! my bad!”

reiner's tanking fail

reiner plays tank but thinks he’s invincible. he charges into fights yelling, “i’m here to save you!” only to get one-shot by an enemy assassin. his teammates are left screaming, “we needed you alive for that!”

ymir's sneaky shenanigans

ymir plays an assassin and loves sneaking around for picks. she’ll shout things like, “i’m going in!” but then accidentally reveals her position by stepping on a ward. when historia asks her what happened, she just shrugs and says, “it was tactical misdirection!”

annie’s solo queue dominance

annie is a solo queue legend who plays mid-lane like it’s her personal arena. she rolls her eyes at her teammates’ antics and mutters things like, “if you all just let me carry…” she has zero patience for anyone who doesn’t understand how to play properly—and she’ll mute them faster than you can say “teamwork.”

bertolt's unexpected support skills

birthcontrol is surprisingly good at support, using his size as an accidental shield for his teammates. when someone asks how he does it, he just says softly, “i’m just… really good at standing still.” and somehow that works....

erwin's confusing speeches

erwin gives motivational speeches before every match that leave everyone more confused than inspired. “remember: victory is not just about winning; it’s about… uh… being brave?” anywyas by the end of it, everyone is just staring blankly at him while eren types in chat: “can we just play already?”

hange's chaotic jungle adventures

hange plays jungle with chaotic energy that keeps everyone on their toes. they dive into fights yelling, “let’s go! science rules!” but often end up accidentally initiating fights they can’t win. then they die spectacularly the end

levi's silent judgment

levi lurks in the background, silently judging everyone while occasionally throwing out sarcastic comments like, “great job feeding.” when asked why he doesn’t play more often, he simply replies with a deadpan stare: "because i don’t want to ruin my kda." and yet somehow still manages to carry every game when he does play

well my fic requests are closed but my asks about certain fics are really never closed lol, and i’m assuming you’re talking about cacoëthes since that’s the only reiner fic within the canon universe

idk if marcel still lived, then reiner really wouldn’t have that reliable big brother kinda vibe that drew reader in the first place, and he’d be more of the pining type if that had occurred. BUT if he still had the same personality (highly unlikely but we’ll roll with it lmao) while marcel was still alive, he’d definitely would try to reason out to reiner why he shouldn’t be with this paradisian girl and definitely why it’s a completely terrible idea when they’re trying to complete their mission. i feel like if he was in the scouts with them, he’d definitely would have developed the same caring attitude he has with the warriors, even if he knows it’s “wrong” to even show an ounce of compassion towards these devils.

how he feels towards reader, probably just like an actual older brother since he misses porco deeply and she sorta reminds him of his little brother. if reiner did go throughout his plan, he finds devastation in it since he feels horrible about having her dragged into this mess when she’s completely innocent, tbh he’d probably fist fight reiner for going against his word. back in marley, marcel would watch over her, making sure she’s acclimating well in the new country and if reiner’s not messing with her too much. he’s the one that makes porco be nice to her and could definitely tell that his little brother has a soft spot for reader once they start hanging out more. he’s not completely thrilled at the idea of his little brother having a crush on his mentally adopted little sister, but it’s material to tease him more than ever!

i think he really would’ve prevented reiner from doing a lot of what he did to reader in the original fic story since reiner holds a lot of respect towards marcel, promising him to never lift a finger towards her nor to force her to do anything she doesn’t want since he already forced her to come to a strange new world. reader would cling onto marcel like he’s the only one she has left (he basically is since bertolt is still dead and gone and annie’s left behind in paradis), and though it irritates reiner to no ends, he can’t do anything about it.

The beauty of forgiveness..and how it tied together two storylines.

So, I did make a post on Jean saving Reiner but as I cooked dinner tonight, I thought back to one of my main otps...Destiel. And how Castiel saved Dean from hell. And...I thought back to Jean saving Reiner, and it clicked in my brain. Like a bulb flicking on.

Anyway, we all know that Reiner was suicidal in Season 4. He was being eaten alive by guilt.. Not only that, but his ENTIRE life had been a lie. Not to mention, he was the only one in his group to return home. There's a lot of layers to Reiners tragic character. Self hatred, survivors guilt, insomnia, PTSD, weight loss, etc.)

All of these events came from him waiting for death.

First gif was after the declaration of war. He wasn't going to fight, he was waiting for it to all be over. He even says.."Just let me...die in peace." Suicidal ideation.

Second one..he attempts suicide. The ONLY thing that stops him from pulling that trigger was Falco and the future child warriors. That's it.

Third one: Waiting for Falco to eat him after Zeke transforms everyone. Didn't fight, or struggle, just wanted to be eaten and done. That's suicidal ideation.

Honestly, I could probably tack on more, but those were the BLATANT tries at killing himself. Not to mention, he allowed Jean to beat him to a bloody pulp and probably would've let him beat him to death, too. Yes, I said allowed.. he didn't make any sort of attempt to fight, didn't put his arms up, no shielding his face, nothing. He wanted that beating because he felt he deserved it. That's why he didn't fight back. Honestly, a part of me felt like he goaded Jean, he knows his temper (hair trigger) knows it's a sensitive subject. Knows nothing he says will make it better. And kept going, anyway. But that's just MY theory.

^^rough scene to watch. Because it makes Jean feel so fucking badly.

Part 2: Forgiven?

Jean says he forgives Reiner, but it still feels...empty? To me. But hell, maybe that's JUST me. Cause Reiner doesn't forgive himself. I think he's relieved to some degree that they UNDERSTAND the plight he, Annie and Bertolt went through. But is that forgiveness? Or just understanding?

Part 3: Reiner played a big part in Jeans story.

It's been established during training Reiner was held in high regard by the other scouts. Which is exactly what Reiner was trying to portray. A fake personality. A fake sense of security for those around him. And Jean wasn't impervious to this. He, like Reiner, had his own facade. Being a smart ass and overly confident. Which...as we know covered low self-esteem, low self worth and fear. Man, sounds like someone else we know, huh? Few things we know of Jean and Reiners childhoods..

Both bullied

Both 'sweet boys'

I'm gonna just add this. I LOVE how a lot of the men in this manga all really love their mothers. Jean, Eren, Armin, Levi, & Connie. I digress though.

there  had  been  a  moment  when  he  stood  as  a  defense  for  the  half-formed  ruin  of  the  attack  titan,  stood  in  front  of  the  cannons  of  the  garrison  with  his  hands  in  the  air  &  feeling  a  smaller  than  he  had  ever  felt  before.  he  had  been  fifteen,  &  somehow  desperation  had  been  enough  to  strangle  luck  into  submission.  he  had  come  out  alive  &  with  the  receipts  for  borrowed  time  in  his  hand  —there  had  been  at  least  a  little  more  time  to  figure  out  what  to  do  with  eren’s  shifting  &  politics  &  continued  life.  the  fact  made  him  so  nervous  that  he  threw  up  later  —  when  everyone  had  finally  stopped looking  at  him  &  waiting  for  him  to  do  something.  then  he  wiped  his  mouth  with  the  back  of  his  hand  &  felt  that  he  had  been  useful  for  at  least  a  moment.

he  takes  it  as  a  lesson  that  desperation  can  make  things  happen.  armin  tucks  this  knowledge  against  his  chest.  then  he  starts  to  learn  that  desperation  kicks-back  when  fired. it  makes  things  happen,  but  there’s  always  a  price.  he  sees  theprice  when  he  starts  serving  with  the  scouts.  those  who  have  survived  long  enough  to  act  as  a  mentor  always  carry  something  weathered  on  their  skin  that  promises  the  worst  is  yet  to  come.

the  worst  is  coming.  armin  starts  steeling  himself  for  it.

he  steels  himself  by  how  :

1  )  he  watches  the  commander.  the  way  that  there  is  something  devilish  in  his  leadership  that  proves  to  be  effective,  efficient,  &  ruthless.  armin  starts  to  see  his  inhumanity  as  a  necessity.  he  thinks  it’s  another  shape  of  desperation  plucking  at  the  strings  of  luck.  2  )  it’s  becoming  easier  to  see  where  he  can  be  useful  (  where  his  strengths  are  ).  expeditions  in  titan-land  mean  accepting  powerlessness  anyway. 3  )  he  sees  something  delirious  &  grieving  on  annie’s  face  before  she  transforms  in  the  heart  of  the  city.  it  terrifies  him  —  he  thinks  he’s  seen  that  face  on  eren  before  too.  cornered  creatures  can  cause  such  wreckage.  4  )  the  walls  offer  no  protection.  5  )  he  shoots  a  man  with  less  hesitation  than  he  expects. he  shoots  a  man.  the  worst  is  yet  to  come.

he  starts  trusting  less.  starts  believing  that  people  are  often  weak  in  their  loyalties,  that  they’re  capable  of  such  awful  things  when  they  do  not  steel  themselves.  he  starts  thinking  more  about  the  things  that  have  been  done  to  him,  to  eren,  to  mikasa,  to  the  corps.  then the  commander  is  slated  for  the  noose,  &  armin  shoots  a  man  dead.  the  city  seems  to  delight  in  the  demise  of  the  corps.  armin  remembers  it.

these  are  all  casual  types  of  cruelty  that  have  made  it  necessary  to  feel  desperation,  to  pay  steep  prices, to  know  the  worst  that  comes. 

armin  thinks  that  casual  cruelties  have  made  him  good.  he  thinks  that  they  have  also  made  him  terrible.

people  are  often  weak  in  their  loyalties,  but  he  is  not.  he  holds  tight  to  his  utility,  to  family,  to  the  scouts.  he  lists  the  things  that  he  has  &  makes  it  a  private  religion.

private,  make-believe  religion  is  the  only  thing  that  could  resurrect  a  man  &  pull  him  from  the  grave.  private,  make-believe  religion  is  the  only  thing  that  find  life  from  char,  that  could  mix  the  value  of  his  life  with  bertolt  (  a  man  that  he  had  eaten  &  killed  ),  with  the  commander  (  a  man  who  had  died  because  he  lives  ),  the  colossal  (  a  wasteland  burning  at  the  nape  of  his  neck  ).

he  lives,  &  he  is  the  product  of  a  mix  &  matched  identities.  his  shape  is  more  his  own  than  it  has  ever  been  before,  &  he  is  muddier  than  he  has  ever  been.

i  have  no  idea  what  you  like  anymore,  eren  tells  him.  today,  armin  feels  as  though  he’s  trying  to  be  a  little  more  like  the  commander.  he  thumbs  through  worn  pages  of  a  book  on  old  family  dynasties  that  he  had  found  in  the  library.  it  had  been  at  the  top  of  a  pile  of  partially  sorted  books,  new  donations  to  the  scout  library.  he  has  a  feeling  that  the  book  had  been  part  of  the  commander’s  personal  library.  it  might  be  of  use.

he  turns  the  page,  stretches  his  legs  beneath  the  table.  eren  eats  an  apple  opposite  of  him.  they  have  half  an  hour  before  they  should  bring  in  the  horses  from  the  pasture,  so  it’s  something. 

i  have  no  idea  what  you  like  anymore,  eren ( @chaoslulled  ) tells  him.  armin  pretends  that  he  hasn’t  noticed  the  sideways  looks  that  eren  has  given  him  since  he  has  inherited  the  colossal,  since  the  colossal  was  shoved  down  his  throat.

he  pretends  too  that  he  hasn’t  noticed  that  eren  has  grown  sullen  &  thoughtful  recently.  armin  can’t  remember  when  the  change  had  come,  &  the  lost  memory  needles  at  him.  to  forget  is  to  ignore  the  worst  to  come.
