This is what I think Bokuto, Atsumu, Kuroo and oikawa would be as roommates in college.
.
”Okay,” Kuroo said. “I need ta know who’s been eating m’food!”
He walked in.
”Oikaa-san!!” he said. “S’that you?”
“What are you on ‘bout right now, Kuroo?” Oikawa whined. He’d been watching this volleyball match over and over again, because he’s not ready for his college team to lose.
Atsumu sat there on the couch, looking straight ahead.
”I put one label! Two in fact! THREE OF THEM! DO NOT TOUCH! DO NOT TOUCH AT ALL THIS FOOD BELONGS TO KUROO!”
“Can you all go and fight inside?!” Oikawa whined. “Take the Miya with you.”
“What am I doing?” Atsumu said.
“You’re disturbing me with your presence! I can’t think!”
“When can you ever think?” Atsumu asked. “Besides you don’t know how to do a float serve.”
“HUUUUUH?!” Oikawa asked as he got up. “You wanna fight?!”
“I don’t think you can even pull a punch! Cos you’re pretty weak!”
“You really want to fight!”
“No fighting in the house!” Kuroo yelled. “OI—“
“Hey hey hey! What are we doing? Are we watching a volleyball match?”
Bokuto crashed into the room, sliding in with his socks, as he laughed. “What are we watching?”
“It was you, wasn’t it? You owl?!” Kuroo asked. “You ate my food!?”
“Huh?!” Bokuto asked. “I ate yours and Oikawa’s food last week, but not this week! S’not me! I promise!”
“HUH?!” Oikawa asked.
”HUUUUUUH?!” Kuroo asked.
They both looked at each other before moving in, and they attempted to wrestle Bokuto, while he laughed happily. “Where are ya guys takin’ me?!”
“To the dumpster!”
“Kuroo! You gotta believe me! It wasn’t me!” Bokuto said, as he grabbed Oikawa in a headlock. Kuroo lifted up his foot, and they all somehow crumbled in a heap.
“Kuroo-chan!” Oikawa yelled. “Take his feet. Tickle him!”
“HAHAHAHAHHAHAH!” Bokuto erupted into laughter.
They lifted Bokuto.
”He’s so heavy coz of all the food he stole!”
“Food thief!! He belongs in the bin like the racoons!”
“I am INOOOOOCENT!"
"Can't trust the owl at all!"
"Not one bit!"
“I told you! I’m super innocent! I’m the most innocent person there is!” Bokuto protested. "Tsumu save me!"
Atsumu sat still as he watched the game.
“YOU ATE MY MEAT BACK IN HIGHSCHOOL ALL THE TIME!”
They somehow wrestled him out the door, while they were all yelling. He blinked. He then glanced back at the cat that Kuroo had brought in, and Kuroo had named ‘Yaku.’
”What?” Atsumu asked.
The cat stared at him.
”I don’t think Kuroo-san should leave such delicious food in the refridgerator.”
“KUROOOOO!”
“THROW HIM IN THE DUMPSTER!”
“Besides,” Atsumu said. “Bokuto deserves it! His snores keep me up, and he touched my volleyball which was signed. With his sticky hands too!”

Oddly Specific Vibes I get when I look at the HQ captains
mentions: Kuroo, Oikawa, Daichi, Bokuto, Ushijima, Kita, Futakuchi and Terushima
a/n: This is PURELY appearance based! I do this thing where I get random vibes from people so I just stared at pictures of the captains and wrote what I feel. This is all for jokes so don't come for me LMAO.

Kuroo
He gives me “I try to look edgy, but I actually watch kids cartoons for fun” vibes
Incredibly handsome, so fuckin hot, but it’s undeniable he oozes dork energy
I feel like if he were to eat a chipotle bowl, he wouldn’t mix it
When his face is resting, you’d think he’s taken and has experience with girls
When he laughs, you realize he’s not that intimidating
He prefers lollipops that are round rather than flat, for example, Chupa Chups
he probably prefers saucy wings over dry ones
Oikawa
He gives me “You can’t be mean to me. Your mom loves me!” vibes
twink
He uses hair mousse and spends 15 min every morning on it
Elf/fairy energy - idk why, but I could see him playing Puck in a school production of a midsummers night dream
He probably shimmies a lot when he dances around with his friends
He cuts up fruit into bite-sized cubes rather than chunks
Daichi
He gives me “yes, I have a savings account, don’t you?” vibes
He has a blackberry and complains about his fingers being too big to type on the keyboard
Would save a spot for his friend at the table
His go-to fast food place is probably Pita Pit, and he gets grilled chicken
He hates public speaking and presentations, but you would never know cause he puts on a brave face
Ushijima
He gives me “Don’t come up to me please” vibes
I think he has conversations in the mirror sometimes to try out different facial expression.
He eats super neatly and will eat everything on his plate, even if he doesn’t like it
Was a massive Caillou fan, hates the theory where he’s dead and his mom is just retelling his life
He’s superstitious, not overly annoying about it, but he will stop you from walking under a ladder
Bokuto
He gives me himbo vibes
He used to make puppets out of his socks instead of throwing them away whenever they would get holes in them
His favourite cereal is reeces puffs, and he drinks all the milk at the bottom of his bowl
He’s a fan of old school Selena Gomez and he knows all of ‘naturally’ by heart
He’s a big fan of Fatgum from MHA and he loves how he takes care of his interns
Futakuchi
He gives me “I’m sorry, did you get offended by my joke?” vibe
He’s allergic to shrimps and carries an epi-pen
Has tried to make a band with his friends in their parent’s garage, but it didn’t work out because he has no sense of rhythm
He really likes creamsicles
I think he gets uncomfortable when someone he doesn’t consider a close friend tries to touch him
Kita
He gives me “I help the elderly cross the street” vibes
Defiantly has a skincare routine, but he prefers to use products that are cruelty-free and has done google searches to ensure he’s not supporting any brand that tests on animals
He refers to his juniors as his younger siblings
He has a diary under his bed, and he writes in it every day, but each entry is colour coded depending on his mood
He wouldn’t explicitly tell the teacher about the homework they forgot to collect, but he will drop it off at their desk when he leaves for his next class
Terushima
He gives me “I talk about being a sex god, but I saw a boob for the first time last week” vibes
He makes girls mixtapes and burns them onto cds
He has a tiktok where he does the viral dances expect he only puts in effort in the sexual moves
He’s an “it’s not gay to kiss the homies goodnight” kinda bro
I think he was really good at the monkey bars when he was young, and he’d just hang upside down like a bat for funsies

We Belong Together
So Kuroo is one of my faves and i wanted to write something for him. I will eventually write something for all of my favorites. For now i hope you all enjoy this. Thank you to my awesome sister @silentprincessofhyrule for this awesome banner.

Warnings: This is mostly fluff with some angst. Swearing, toxic person/relationship, happy ending
Key: I’m sure you all know this but just in case, y/n = your name and gf/n = girlfriend’s name
Peas in a pod. That was what you and your two best friends heard most from your teachers, parents, even just neighbors when you were younger. They weren’t wrong, the three of you were always together from the very start.
At first it was just you and Kenma. You lived on the same street and were the only two children. He was only a year younger than you and so you were just naturally drawn together.
Kenma was quiet, kept to himself, but that was fine with you. He was sweet and kind and fun to be around. Besides you were loud and outgoing enough for the two of you anyway. Most of your time together was spent playing games and talking about whatever was on your mind. The two of you enjoyed each other’s company.
When Kuroo had moved onto your street, you were the first to say hello. You thought he was cute even if he was on the shy side, not that anyone would ever be able to guess that nowadays. It hadn’t mattered though, you were friends with Kenma and so you were used to that sort of thing.
The three of you bonded over games and eventually started playing volleyball together. You’d even managed to find some co-ed training camps so the three of you could play in actual games together. You always had fun playing with them even if they were way better at it than you were.
When you started middle school, the two of them joined the volleyball team and you became their number one fan and biggest cheerleader. Sure you were sad that you couldn’t play on the same team with them, not that you had ever intended on joining a school team, but that didn’t stop you from going to every game and practice. After they were done with volleyball club for the day, the three of you would do your homework together then play games at Kenma’s or watch movies at your house or play a little volleyball in Kuroo’s backyard.
The three of you were inseparable and that continued through middle school, on through high school, and even still now in college. Your schedules didn’t always match up perfectly but you spent as much time together as you could and every morning the three of you would commute to college together.
You’d all chosen to live at home while attending college to save on money. Besides you all lived close enough to the campus that commuting wasn’t a big deal. But you all had also decided to do it so that all of you could still be close to each other and see each other whenever you wanted, just like it had always been no pesky dorm rules to stop you. The three of you truly treasured each other and the time you spent together.
You rushed into the gym hoping to see your friends before their practice match with Fukurodani began.
“There you are chibi-chan, I was beginning to think you got lost.” Kuroo says as he approaches you.
“Yeah sorry about that. My professor went off on a tangent and kept us late.”
“Well that’s ok, you’re here now.” He smiles at you.
“Hey, Hey, Hey kitty cat.” Bokuto says when he spots you talking to Kuroo.
“Hey Ko, how are you?”
“Seriously bro? What’s with that nickname?” Kuroo asks him.
“What? Your mascot is a cat and it sounds cute. She doesn’t mind that I call her that. I mean I could call her my baby owl instead.”
“No. Kitty cat is bad enough and she isn’t yours.”
You just laugh at the exchange between the friends.
“Hey y/n, are those two at it again?” A calm voice asks from behind you.
“Oh hey Kenny. You know they are but I think it’s cute.”
“Cute? I think not.” Kuroo says.
“The only cute thing here is you kitty cat.” Bokuto says to you in a flirty manner.
“Aww, thank you Ko.”
It was always like that with you and Bokuto. You were just friends but there was always flirty banter between you two. You never saw anything more to it than just a playful exchange. Bokuto then makes another comment that causes you to laugh and maybe that’s why you missed the look of jealousy that briefly flitted across Kuroo’s face.
Turning your attention back to your two best friends, you give Kenma a hug and then you give Kuroo one as well. As you hug Kuroo, you feel as though his grip around you seems a bit tighter than usual but you decide to just enjoy the feel of it.
“Good luck guys.”
You head towards the bleachers and find your usual seat in the front row. You can’t help but to think about the hug you had just gotten from Kuroo. You feel your heartrate pick up as you remember the warm strong embrace. The truth was your feelings for your two best friends had changed. They were still your best friends and they always would be. But while your love for Kenma had taken the sibling route, your love for Kuroo had taken the romantic route.
You feel a little ache in your chest thinking about it because you have convinced yourself that Kuroo would only ever see you as one of his best friends. You’ve told yourself that you’re ok with it because he’s a great friend, but every day you can’t stop yourself from hoping that today would be the day. The day that Testsuro Kuroo, Tetsu as you affectionately referred to him, would realize that he was in love with you. No matter how unrealistic it might be.
Kuroo throws the ball into the air, jumps, and hits it. Hard. Too hard actually, it goes sailing out of bounds.
“Shit,” he curses to himself. “Sorry guys.”
“Don’t worry about it. We’ll get the next one.” Yamamoto assures him.
Kenma gives his best friend a concerned look as the coach calls for a time out.
“Are you ok?” He asks him as they head over to the bench.
“Yeah I’m ok, don’t worry.”
In truth, he wasn’t ok. The way Bokuto so casually flirted with you earlier and the way you had laughed at whatever stupid thing he had said bothered Kuroo more than he would ever admit. And he knew it was ridiculous for that to bother him, you were both his friends and he wanted the two of you to be happy. If you were to get together, he knew that Bokuto would treat you right. But the thought of you with Bokuto, or anyone really, upset him because the one you should really be with was him. He would treat you so well, take care of you no matter what. He knew you better than anyone, with maybe the exception of Kenma. He knew what you wanted and what you needed and most importantly, he would love you more than anyone else ever could.
His mind was racing, to the point where he couldn’t even hear what coach was saying. He knew that he really had to focus but the only thing that was currently on his mind was you. That wasn’t really anything new but he could usually focus on volleyball whenever he was playing. He found himself looking for you, knowing you always sat in the same spot whether it was normal practice or a practice match. Front row right behind the bench. He looks at you just as coach finishes talking and the team begins to head back onto the court.
You give him a sweet smile and he feels his own smile spread across his face. Ah there it is, he thinks. The smile that lights up your face as well as the room and makes his heart race in the best way possible. He loved that smile.
He heads back to his position with a new focus on the game. He doesn’t even let his mind wander when he and Bokuto are staring each other down across the net. Your smile had been just for him, even if it was just a supportive one from one friend to another, but it had been enough to chase away the jealousy that had overtaken his mind earlier.
After the game, you said goodbye to Bokuto and Akaashi and waited for Kuroo and Kenma to come out of the locker room. As you waited, you thought back to the game. Kuroo had not been acting like himself, he seemed distracted and almost angry. You were worried that something was wrong but he seemed to get back on track after the time out. So maybe he was just too fired up at the beginning, it had happened before when they played Fukurodani. The competitive streak between him and Bokuto was always on full display when they played each other. Whatever it was, you were glad he had settled in after that.
You were roused from your thoughts when you heard a voice speak.
“Hello? Earth to chibi-chan.” Kuroo says as he waves a hand in front of your face.
“Oh sorry. What was that?”
“Kenma asked what you wanted to eat. Where were you?”
“Just spacing out. You guys took so long I was afraid I might fall asleep.” You tease them.
“Sorry about that,” Kenma says, “Lev called Yaku short again and we had to make sure that Yaku didn’t murder him.”
“I swear Lev must have a death wish to keep bringing that up.” You laugh.
“Yeah tell me about it. And I get stuck breaking it up because I’m the captain.” Kuroo says with a sigh. “It gets tiring.” “Aww but you’re such a good captain Tetsu, I’m sure the team appreciates everything you do for them.”
“They damn well better. Anyway, food. I’m starving.”
“How about we just get some take out and go play games back at my house? I’ve had enough intense activity for today.” Kenma says as the three of you leave campus together.
In the end, that’s exactly what you ended up doing. Now with full stomachs you’re all playing a game together.
“Damn it Tetsu! Stop saving all those fucking turtle shells for me, use one on Kenma for a change.”
“But you react so much more to it than him kitten, it’s far more entertaining.” Kuroo laughs.
“No. You don’t get to call me that when you keep knocking me off the road.”
Kuroo laughs more and you end up getting hit with yet another shell.
“I swear I’m going to kill you Tetsu!” You yell at him while giving him a little glare.
“You both suck at this game, so what does it matter?” Kenma says with his eyes fixed on the screen, his character lapping you for the third time.
“Shut up Kenny!” You throw a pillow at him and hit him in the back of the head causing him to drive off the road. “HA, now who sucks?”
Kenma turns and gives you a look that promises revenge.
“Oh shit.” You get your arms up just barely in time to cover your face from the pillow that Kenma has launched at you.
“Ok fine, two can play this game.” You say before throwing a pillow back at him, the two of you laughing as you take turns hitting each other.
Kuroo just watches the scene before him, well just you actually. He loves riling you up because your expressions are all so cute. Whether you’re laughing and smiling like now or pouting and scowling like you were before when he kept messing you up in the game, he loved them all.
He didn’t really want to admit it, not even to himself though it was undoubtedly true, but he was hopelessly in love with you. It had been a few years already since he first felt it and denied it, though if he was being completely honest with himself he’d had a crush on you since you were kids. But kids don’t really understand the meaning of that or at least he knew that he hadn’t. Still he had managed to act the same as he always did around you, leaving you none the wiser to his changing feelings towards you.
Even when he had first become friends with Bokuto, which led to you and Kenma becoming friends with him, he had managed to ignore the flirty way that Bokuto interacted with you. But now it had started to bother him. He just didn’t know why it now did. Ok he did know. He couldn’t lie to himself about his feelings for you anymore and there was a very real possibility that you could end up with Bokuto, the two of you got along so well and he wasn’t some jerk that you wouldn’t look twice at. So he couldn’t hold back his feelings but he couldn’t tell you either. What if he ruined everything? Too bad that didn’t stop the jealousy from rising up like it had before.
As he sat there staring, he heard his phone go off signaling the arrival of a new text message. Before he could pick it up off the floor next to him, however, he was nailed in the face by a pillow followed by your laugh. The laugh that was music to his ears.
“It’s your fault this whole thing started Tetsu, so don’t think you’re getting out of it.” You say to him.
“Oh you’re in for it now kitten.” Kuroo says with a smirk before hitting you with a pillow.
And so he was dragged into your pillow war as well.
Fifteen minutes later, the three of you were all out of breath from throwing pillows but also from all the laughing. You always loved the time you got to spend with these two men. You glance over at Kuroo who has a smile on his face as he catches his breath.
Oh how you loved that smile of his, how you loved everything about him really. You so badly just wanted to curl up in his lap and have him wrap his arms around you. Everything just felt so right when he would hug you, like you just belonged there, wrapped up in his arms.
Of course that wasn’t likely to happen, he was super popular with the ladies and could have his pick of any one of them. He didn’t even have to make a move. Girls were always asking him out on dates but he would always turn them down. You figured he was just too preoccupied with volleyball and his studies. Still whenever you heard that yet another girl had asked him out, you would feel a pain in your chest and your stomach would churn as you waited to hear if he had said yes because you knew that one of these days he would. Just the thought of it devastated you but you knew that you would have to deal with it when it happened because you wanted him to be happy.
Yeah happy with me, the little voice in the back of your head supplied. You know that you would love him more than any other girl could because you already did and you would take such good care of him too. But you couldn’t risk it. What if he didn’t feel the same and it ended up ruining your friendship? You couldn’t lose him from your life and so you remained quiet about your feelings.
You tear your gaze away from Kuroo and see your phone blinking. Unlocking it you see that you have new messages. From Bokuto.
“Oh hey guys, Ko wants to know if we want to hang out on Saturday. Also he told me to tell you that before you say anything, he texted you first Tetsu but you didn’t answer.” You say to him as he picks up his phone to check.
“So he did.” Kuroo replies.
“It’s fine with me as long as we don’t do too much, he has way too much energy.” Kenma chimes in.
“Well you’re not wrong there.” You chuckle.
“Yeah ok.” Kuroo adds.
“Do you want to text him and let him know Tetsu? Or should I?”
“I’m sure he’d rather hear from you than me, so you can do it.” He says a bit more sharply than intended.
You raise an eyebrow but just shrug your shoulders and message Bokuto back.
Kuroo makes his way to your house. It had been decided that they would all go there and watch movies.
You lived alone now after your grandmother had passed away in your first year of college. She had left the house to you as well as whatever inheritance she had. He didn’t know where your parents were and he had asked you about them once but you said that you didn’t know where they were either. Your grandmother was all the family you’d had.
It had been two years already since she passed. He remembered how upset you had been and how he and Kenma had stayed with you every night for a month. They helped you with anything you needed and took turns holding you as you cried. They also made sure you were taking care of yourself and they tried to keep you busy, hoping that it would help you with your grieving process and it had helped. He was happy that he had been able to be there for you and help you heal.
That was also when he realized for the first time just how hard he had fallen for you. When he saw you cry his heart shattered and he wanted nothing more than to wipe your tears away, kiss them away really, and see you happy and smiling once more. He never wanted to see you cry again. He had no idea if you felt that way about him though and so he went back to denying and suppressing.
Kuroo reaches your house and hears humming coming from the backyard. He pushes open the gate and finds you watering the garden. Your grandmother had started it when you were all younger and now you took care of it.
“Hey chibi-chan. The garden looks great.”
“Hey Tetsu” You happily greet him with a smile as you put the hose away.
There it was again that smile, his smile. He was certain that you didn’t smile at anyone else like that, not even Bokuto. But maybe that was just him hoping that was the case.
You come over to him and give him a big hug. He breathes in the coconut scent of your shampoo. He loved that smell, you’d used it for so long now and it was just so undeniably you. If he ever smelled it elsewhere it would immediately bring you to the forefront of his mind. You separate from him sooner than he would’ve liked but Kenma and Bokuto had arrived and so you went over to greet them.
The night went by in a blur for Kuroo. There was food and movies, a couple of games, and you had all chatted about whatever. The only thing he could focus on, however, was the way that Bokuto looked at you, the way he made you laugh, the way he touched your arm and he felt that jealousy bubble up again. All he could think was that should be me. Why can’t I just tell her?
Because you could ruin everything if you did, the sabotaging voice in the back of his head told him.
He needed to get his mind off of you, needed to distract himself from his feelings for you. But do I really want to? He was unsure, that was until he saw Bokuto give you an innocent little kiss on the cheek when he left later on. It was no different than the friendly kisses on the cheek you would get from Kenma but it made him angry. And he knew it shouldn’t so he decided then that he did need to find a way to distract himself from his feelings for you.
It had been a couple of weeks since the movie night at your house and Kuroo had been acting strange ever since. He didn’t hang out with you as much as he usually did and when he did hang out he acted distant. Things you would say or do that would normally have him laughing hysterically, now didn’t even really get a response like he wasn’t even paying attention.
What was wrong with him? Did I do something to upset him? You had no idea but it was breaking your heart little by little. Now you were sitting in Kenma’s room, playing a game with him.
“Do you know what Tetsu’s problem is?”
“Not sure. He hasn’t talked to me about it but I don’t think his new girlfriend is helping.”
“Girlfriend?” You ask with surprise.
This was the first you’d heard of it and you felt your stomach lurch, threatening to spill its contents.
“Yeah. I guess she asked him out a couple of weeks ago and he said yes but she isn’t a nice person so I don’t know why he’s dating her.”
“Am I not worthy of hearing about this? I mean we’re supposed to be best friends.”
“He didn’t tell you? That’s weird.”
“I’m going to text that jerk right now.”
You pick up your phone, open the text thread, and send him a message.
You: “You have a girlfriend? Why didn’t you tell me?”
Tetsu: “Oh yeah. I guess I forgot.”
You: “Forgot? We’re best friends and you just forgot?”
Tetsu: “Yeah, sorry.”
You: “Well do I ever get to meet her?”
Tetsu: “I guess. Are you at Kenma’s? We can stop by there before we go out.”
You: “Yeah I am.”
Tetsu: “See you in a little bit then.”
You put your phone to the side.
“They’re coming over here. Sorry Kenny.”
“It’s fine but you’re going to hate her.” He responds as he continues to play his game.
Ten minutes later you hear a voice come from Kenma’s bedroom door.
“Oh wow, is this really your room Kenma? Are you sure you’re old enough to be in college? Because it looks like a 12 year old lives here.” Kuroo’s girlfriend says.
Your eyes widen at how rude she just was. She’s pretty but Kenma is right she isn’t very nice.
Kenma just rolls his eyes and ignores her as he continues to play.
“Haha, yeah Kenma loves his games.” Kuroo laughs but you can tell it’s one of those fake ones people do when they’re embarrassed. “Anyway this is my girlfriend, gf/n.”
You decide that you will do your best to be nice for Kuroo’s sake.
“Hi, I’m Tetsu’s frien—“ Before you can finish speaking she cuts you off.
“Yeah, yeah I know who you are.” She shoots you a glare. “Ok I met her. Can we leave now? I don’t want to look at this bitch anymore.” She says with disgust.
You see annoyance flicker across Kuroo’s face at her words.
Oh hell no is she getting away with that, you think.
“Excuse me? What the fuck did you just call me? If there’s a bitch in here then it’s clearly your rude ass.” You get up off the bed where you were sitting and go to approach her only for Kenma to stop you.
“Calm down.” He says as he wraps his arms around you, hugging you to him to keep you in place.
“Yeah ok. Let’s go.” Kuroo says as he leads her away from you and out the front door.
Once they’re gone, Kenma lets you go.
“I told you that you were going to hate her. She’s rude to everyone.”
You clench your fists and let out a frustrated shriek.
“What a fucking bitch! Why the fuck is he dating someone like that?”
“I’m not sure.” He tells you though the look in his eyes suggests otherwise, still you decide not to press him for an answer.
Kuroo sits on his couch. It had been a week since he’d introduced you to his girlfriend, gf/n. Ugh, that didn’t even sound right to him. The only one he wanted to call his girlfriend was you.
Why was he even dating her? Oh right, to forget he’s in love with you. Too bad it’s not working. It’s making him think about you even more actually because he can’t help but compare the two of you.
She was pretty. You were beautiful.
You were sweet, kind, thoughtful, caring, funny, and smart. She had been nothing but rude and nasty to everyone, including him a few times.
You fit so perfectly in his arms like it was where you were meant to be, He had to stop himself from pushing her off of him when she would hug him and he would always come up with an excuse to dodge having to kiss her.
He felt an ache in his chest with every beat of his heart as he thought about you. He’d been acting like such a jerk to you too since he started dating her. He knew he needed to break up with her, you were right, she was a rude bitch.
A knock on his door stirs Kuroo from his thoughts. He gets up and opens it, on the other side stands Kenma. He glances around before he speaks.
“Is she here?”
“Who? Oh, gf/n? No, I’m supposed to meet her later.” Kuroo tells him and lets him into the house.
“Good. We need to talk Kuroo.”
“What’s up?”
“First of all, you’re being a jerk to y/n. She’s supposed to be one of your best friends yet you’ve done nothing but blow her off and ignore her. It’s messed up.” He looks right into Kuroo’s eyes as he says it.
Kuroo flinches slightly at Kenma’s words despite already knowing it was the truth.
“Second of all, you need to get rid of that bitch you’re calling a girlfriend. She’s not a nice person. She’s rude to everyone. The team doesn’t want her to come anywhere near them so tell her to stay away or you’re going to have a problem on your hands.”
“Ok fine. I’ll tell her not to come to practices anymore. She’ll probably be happy about that actually.”
“And lastly, not only is she rude to all of us but she gets downright nasty with y/n. I have to keep stopping her from punching your “girlfriend” in the face.” He says, using air quotes when saying girlfriend. “The other day we were eating lunch together and your “girlfriend” came over to us. She ignored me completely which I was fine with but she had the nerve to insult your other best friend. You remember her, right?”
He winces at Kenma’s words.
“The bitch told y/n to stay away from you and that you didn’t want anything to do with her anymore.”
Kuroo lets out a groan and pinches the bridge of his nose as Kenma continues to speak.
“I’m not really sure what you’re thinking but deal with it instead of running away from it.”
Being called out on his bullshit causes Kuroo to get defensive.
“I’m not running away from anything and her name isn’t bitch, it’s gf/n.”
Kenma lets out a derisive laugh.
“Yeah, funny how that’s all you call her by, her name. Don’t people usually have pet names for their girlfriends? Like kitten?” He pretends to think. “Or maybe, chibi-chan?” He gives Kuroo a pointed look before leaving.
“Damn it! What the fuck am I doing?” He says to the emptiness of the room after Kenma’s departure.
Damn Kenma’s observational skills. He loved them on the volleyball court but not when they were used against him.
I can’t just let him think he can read me so easily so I won’t. He had his pride and he could be stubborn when he wanted to be. He was not going to let Kenma know how easily he had seen right through him.
Kuroo looks at the clock and sighs. Time to get ready to see his “girlfriend.”
The following Saturday you were sitting in your living room with Kenma and Bokuto. You invited them over to watch movies again and had hoped Kuroo would come too.
“Is Kuroo coming?” Bokuto asks.
You sigh.
“No. I invited him but he said he had plans with that bitch.”
That was her name now as far as you were concerned after the multiple times she had gone out of her way to be nasty to you.
“Why is he still with her? I thought he was supposed to be smart. He must know that she isn’t worth his time. I saw her screaming at him outside the gym last week when we went there for another practice match so she isn’t even nice to him. Did you talk to him?”
“I did.” Kenma answers. “He didn’t listen, obviously. Though thankfully she stays away from the team now. I think that’s what she was screaming at him about actually, I heard some of it. Apparently we’re jealous of how happy she makes him or some nonsense and he should stop being friends with us.”
“He didn’t really respond to her from what I saw when I walked by, he didn’t even see me.” Bokuto says.
“Yeah he just stood there and let her scream. He really needs to get rid of her.”
“Are you serious? She just screamed at him? I swear I will knock that bitch out for treating him like that. I’m going to corner his ass after practice on Monday and try to talk some sense into him. Maybe he needs to hear it from someone a little louder.”
“Yeah you tell him kitty cat.” Bokuto cheers.
“Oh I will. Don’t worry. Now let’s pick something to watch.”
True to your word, there you were Monday after practice waiting for Kuroo to emerge from the locker room. Once he came out, you grabbed his wrist and dragged him along to the now empty gym.
“Why did you drag me in here?”
“Because we need to talk. Look I’m just going to say it, you need to dump that nasty bitch.”
Kuroo sighs.
“Look just because you don’t like her doesn’t mean I should dump her.”
“That isn’t even it. She isn’t even a nice person. You deserve someone so much better than her. Someone who is sweet and caring like you. Someone who is smart and funny like you. Someone who will take care of you and treat you like the amazing guy that you are. Someone who will love you for you. And I’m sorry but that isn’t her. You deserve someone who makes you smile and happy every day not someone who screams at you and treats you and all of the people you care about like shit. You’d be so much better off without her Tetsu.”
Kuroo listens to all you have to say. You were right of course. He knew this. He knew it before Kenma had even spoken to him. It had been nothing more than an experiment and it had failed miserably. Maybe that made him a jerk for using someone like that but he had gone into it genuinely hoping that he could find someone else he liked. He should have known that it would never work though, he was way too in love with you. Even if he had found a sweet girl who he liked he still would never have been able to be with anyone but you.
This had all taken way too long for him to truly understand. He had just been way too worried, or maybe it was scared, that it would all blow up in his face and so he did exactly what Kenma said. He tried running from it instead of dealing with it and now here he was. His feelings for you had only grown more intense and it was just his sheer stubbornness that was preventing him from doing what needed to be done.
He felt beat up and drained from this “relationship.” He needed to get out and he needed to tell you how he felt.
Your voice brings him back to reality.
“Tetsu, I’m one of your best friends, I want you to be happy. And I’m not the only one who’s worried about you either. All the rest of your friends are too, Kenma, the guys on the team.”
He knew it was true that you and Kenma and everyone else were concerned about him. He knew it was time to end this before it got even worse and it was already terrible.
“Even Bokuto is worried about you. He doesn’t even see you as often as the rest of us but he knows you’re not happy.”
Bokuto, yes he must have gotten together with you by now, he thought as he remembered all the laughs and flirtation that went on between the two of you. He told himself he could be happy for you both, you were his friends, even if it also broke his heart. And yet he still felt the slightest glimmer of hope that maybe he still had a chance. It was that little bit of hope that was keeping the jealousy he felt simmering in his gut from rising up. That is until you blindsided him.
“He agrees with the rest of us, how you deserve someone better. We were talking about it the other day when he came over my house.”
His mouth went dry and he could hear his heart thudding in his ears. Bokuto had been at your house. Alone with you. He felt his stomach drop and his heart clench as his mind wandered, led astray by the jealousy that he’d only had a tenuous grip on.
What had the two of you been doing in your house? Cuddling? Kissing? Had he touched you? Had the two of you done something even more?
He couldn’t control it, the jealousy had taken over and his anger surged. He was more angry at himself than anything else, he’d lost his chance because he had been too chicken to tell you his true feelings. Unfortunately, he let it come out and he directed it straight at you.
“Is that all? Why are you even here? Just to lecture me? Shouldn’t you be under Bokuto somewhere instead?”
Your mouth drops open at his words. Had he really just said that to you?
“What the fuck did you just say?” You feel your pulse quicken as your own anger rises.
“Oh I’m sorry, is it Kenma’s turn then?” He replies in a mocking tone.
Your anger surges and before you even realize what’s happening, your fist connects with your best friend’s face. You didn’t even register the pain in your hand when you shoved him after.
“I came here because I care about you and I’m worried about you and that’s what you say to me? Go to hell Kuroo.”
You turn and run from the gym refusing to let him see the tears that had begun running down your cheeks.
Kuroo regretted it all as soon as he said it. Regretted it even more when you punched him in the face. Who knew you had such a vicious right hook? But the fact that you called him Kuroo instead of Tetsu hurt him more than any punch to the face could. You hadn’t called him that since you first met when you were kids. He had fucked up badly and all because he couldn’t be honest with you or himself. This whole situation could have been avoided.
He knew he deserved all of it though, including the black eye you’d given him. That had been three days ago now and he hadn’t even caught a glimpse of you since. He ended up dumping his “girlfriend” that night and it was like a huge weight had been lifted from his shoulders. He would have felt happier than he had in a month if he hadn’t said what he did to you.
He should never have let it go on for as long as he had, maybe he could have gotten his chance with you. Instead he was lamenting the fact that he had hurt the one person he loved more than anyone, the one he had never wanted to hurt. What a fool he had been.
Laying on his bed, he stares up at the ceiling when he hears a familiar yet less cheery than normal voice enter the room.
“Hey” Bokuto says as he stands in the doorway and leans against the frame.
“What do you want?” Kuroo asks in a somber tone.
“What did you say to her bro? She was so pissed but I think she was more sad than anything.”
Kuroo feels his heart clench at the thought that he had made you sad. Your anger he would gladly take. But your tears? He couldn’t handle that.
“It doesn’t matter.”
“Look I know she went to talk to you about, uh, gf/n. Right? Anyway, she’s just worried about you and so are the rest of us. She isn’t a good person for you, she’ll just drag you down. You deserve b—“
He cuts Bokuto off.
“I deserve better than her? Yeah well unfortunately the one who’s best for me is with you.” Kuroo says in a dejected tone.
Bokuto furrows his brow in confusion.
“What are you talking about?”
“You know who I’m talking about, you’re always flirting with her and shit. Congrats, I’m happy for you. Just make sure you treat her well.”
“Wait, do you think y/n and I are a couple? Just because I say flirty stuff to her? That’s just for fun, it’s not serious. Besides why would that bother you…oh I get it now. You’re in love with her, aren’t you?”
“What difference does it make? You can stop lying to make me feel better. I know you spend time at her house, she told me herself that you were there the other day. I’m sure you two got really close while you were alone together.”
“Dude, seriously? We watched movies and I wasn’t alone with her. Kenma was there too, you can go ask him yourself. I’ll just wait for you to come apologize to me afterwards for being such an idiot. Don’t worry I’ll forgive you because I’m a great guy like that.” Bokuto tells him before flashing a confident grin and leaving Kuroo’s house.
After Bokuto leaves, Kuroo goes rushing over to Kenma’s house and bursts into his room where he finds him playing a game. Kenma glances away from the screen at Kuroo’s entrance before looking back at it.
“You were at her house with Bokuto?” He asks, slightly out of breath from running over.
“Wow, you’re so dumb Kuroo. I thought you were supposed to be so smart. Yes I was there with Bokuto and you should have been too but you blew her off again and went out with your “girlfriend” instead.”
“Shit! I can’t believe I forgot about that.” Kuroo says as he sits on Kenma’s bed and puts his head in his hands.
“Yeah, well, you were preoccupied. Where is the bitch anyway?”
“How should I know? I dumped her three days ago.”
“Well that’s good at least. Honestly you should have just told y/n that you loved her from the start, geez.”
“I know but I was too scared that she might reject me and then never want to talk to me again.”
“You know that she would never do that, she cares about you too much.”
“I know that I should have dumped that girl after you talked to me too but I didn’t like how easily you saw through me and I didn’t want you to know that you were right. I really am dumb.”
Kuroo lets out a sorrowful sigh.
“Do you think she’ll ever forgive me, Kenma?”
“Of course she will but you better beg for her forgiveness and finally tell her the truth.”
Two more days passed and Kuroo had apologized to Bokuto for being an idiot and Bokuto forgave him just like he said that he would.
You, however, had expertly evaded all of his attempts to get ahold of you and he was starting to wonder if he’d ever even see you again let alone talk to you. He still hadn’t caught a single glance of you, you wouldn’t answer his calls or respond to his messages, when he went to your house you would ignore him.
As he left his tenth message of the day for you, he made his way over to Kenma’s house. When he entered his friend’s room, he was greeted with his first glimpse of you in nearly a week.
“Sorry Kenny, I have to go.” You say as you get up and head for the door but before you could leave Kuroo catches you by the wrist.
“Wait chibi-chan.”
You just look down and shake him off before disappearing out the front door.
“She told me what you said to her. You fucked up so bad Kuroo. You totally deserved that black eye.”
“Yeah I know I did. But how am I supposed to talk to her and apologize if she doesn’t want to be anywhere near me?”
“I don’t know but you better figure out something before you lose your chance for good.”
Tears roll down your cheeks as you water your garden. You didn’t know what else to do after you fled Kenma’s house. You weren’t even sure how you felt anymore, aside from sad at the whole situation. Sad about what had happened between you and Kuroo, you knew he couldn’t have meant what he said he was just upset but it still hurt you, and sad that he was dating someone so awful. He was far too kind, thoughtful, and caring to be with someone as vile as that girl. Most of all you just missed him, your best friend, the sweet goofy guy that you had fallen madly in love with.
You swipe at your cheeks to rid them of the tears when you hear that voice, the one that you loved so much.
“Hey chibi-chan, can we please talk?” Kuroo asks. Closing the gate behind him, he approaches you.
You stop watering and look at him.
“Are you even allowed to? What would your “girlfriend” say?”
Just as you are about to put the hose down and go into your house, locking him out, his voice stops you.
“I dumped her. You were right, you all were. I was just being stubborn or stupid. Maybe both.”
“Definitely both. I’m glad you started thinking with your brain again instead of something else.”
Kuroo laughs to himself.
“Yeah, funny thing is I never even kissed her. Forget about anything else.”
“Wait. Are you serious?”
“Yeah. There’s only one person I want to kiss and it wasn’t her.”
Before you can process what he just said, he rushes on.
“I am so sorry kitten. I never should have said what I did. I didn’t mean it at all. I know you’re not like that.” He moves in front of you and gets on his knees. “Please forgive me, I’m begging you. I wouldn’t be able to handle losing you.”
He looks up at you with pleading eyes and remorse written all over his face.
“You hurt me when you said that shit Tetsu.”
He felt some relief at hearing his name, at least he wasn’t Kuroo anymore.
“I know I did. Let me make it up to you. I’ll do anything. You can punch me again if you want, which by the way where the hell did you learn to hit like that?”
You couldn’t help but laugh at that.
“You didn’t mean it?” You ask even though you already know he didn’t.
“No, of course not.” He says before mumbling under his breath, “I was just being stupid.”
“What was that?” You ask having not quite caught what he just said.
“Nothing. Please forgive me chibi-chan. I need you in my life.”
You let out a sigh. You knew he was being genuine and you loved him too much to not forgive him.
“Well lucky for you, I don’t want to lose you either. You’re too important to me.”
Kuroo’s face brightens.
“Does that mean you forgive me?”
“That depends. Are you back to being my Tetsu? Or are you still the jerk that you’ve been for the past month?”
“I’m your Tetsu, I promise kitten.”
“Hmm..” You pretend to be lost in thought looking at him before a mischievous grin breaks out across your face.
Kuroo raises an eyebrow at you and then you’re spraying him with the hose you still have in your hand.
“Oops, my finger slipped.” You laugh as he shakes his arms to get some of the water off.
“Oh you’re going to pay for that.”
You let out a little shriek when he rises to his feet. You drop the hose and run.
Kuroo chases you around your yard, both of your laughs echoing off of the nearby trees. It doesn’t take long before you feel a pair of strong arms wrap around your waist, lift you up, and spin you around. This causes the both of you to fall onto the soft grass. You land on your back and Kuroo somehow manages to land on top of you, using his forearms to brace himself so he doesn’t crush you.
Hovering above you, he stares deeply into your eyes with a serious intensity.
“I want to kiss you so badly. I have for a while now.” He glances to your lips before returning his gaze to your eyes.
Your eyes widen with his confession, your heart racing in your chest.
“So what’s stopping you then?”
A big smile spreads across Kuroo’s face and then he’s pressing his lips tenderly against yours.
You lose yourself in the kiss, lips parting slightly allowing him to slip his tongue inside your mouth and begin a dance with yours. Your one hand finds its way into his hair while the other one rests against the back of his neck. Your heart pounds and your mind races. How many times had you imagined what his kiss would feel like? A countless number it seemed and yet the real thing was so much better than anything you had ever imagined.
You could feel all the love and care he was pouring into this kiss and you did the same. It seemed like hours and yet seconds at the same time when he separated from your mouth.
“I’m so in love with you chibi-chan. You fit so perfectly in my arms and I know that it’s where you belong. I want nothing more than to hold you close each and every day. I’m just sorry I didn’t tell you sooner. I was afraid that I might lose you if you didn’t feel the same. I’m a dumbass.”
“Oh Tetsu, I’ve been in love with you for a while now and I thought the same damn thing as you. So I guess we’re both dumbasses.” You let out a chuckle and he does too.
“I guess we are, but that doesn’t matter now. Will you be mine chibi-chan?”
“Nothing would make me happier.”
“Good then I’m going to hold you close every day. You’re mine and I’m yours from now on.” He says with a smile.
“Always and forever, my Tetsu.” You say with a smile before he captures your lips once more in another loving kiss.

We Make a Good Team (Kuroo Tetsurou)
Ok so this is the second type part to this request. So yeah, hope you enjoy loves!
Word Count- 891
20. “We make a good team, don’t we?”
“Are you off to do homework?” Your mom asked as you helped her put away dishes that was used during dinner. You nod your head, “yes ma’am I am. I have an essay to finish so I’m going to finish it to have a free weekend.” It was Friday, normally you’d hang out with a friend or with Kuroo, you boyfriend for a year, but you had extra work to do since you missed a day. Your mom nodded her head as she walked to you and placed a small peck on your forehead. “Alright, don’t stay up to late you hear?” She said sternly while you nod your head. You walk out the kitchen and up to your room.
You let out a sigh as you shut the door behind you. 8:30 is what the clock showed as you made your way to your desk. You went to your school bag and pulled out your paperwork and moved to sit at your desk. Opening up your laptop, you pulled up the information you needed for your essay then making a new tab to type it out.
You were typing and searching for a good hour when your phone dinged, showing that you got a text from Kuroo. You rubbed your eyes while moving to open the message.
Oh Captain! <3:
Hey kitten, say you think you can hang out tonight? Bokuto is in town for the weekend and wanted to see if you wanted to hang with us tonight
You smiled, thinking that it would be fun if you didn’t have to worry about your work.
You:
I’d love to but I have to do that essay I missed the other day :( sorry babe but tell Bokuto I said hi!
Oh Captain! <3:
Oh come on plzzzzzz!! You can work on it tomorrow or something, I miss you :(
You chuckled lightly as you pressed his contact and the facetime button. It rang for a few seconds until Kuroo’s face appeared on your screen. “Kitten,” he stated in a serious voice before Bokuto made a quick comment. “Dude your simp side is showing,” which made you and Kuroo laugh out. He glanced to the side saying something to him when he turned back to you. C’mon like, I’ll pick you up and we can go eat wherever you want but you have all weekend to finish that,” he stated while making a small pouting face.
You send him a sweet smile when you heard Bokuto yell then the camera shook showing movement until Bokuto’s face appeared on the phone. “Y/n, you need to hang out with us. I haven’t seen you in forever and Kuroo is going to be sad if you don’t,” Bokuto said with Tetsurou complaining in the background. You send him a small smile, “how about tomorrow? We can have all day to hang out.” He also gave a pout as Kuroo came up and took his phone back.
“Ok well we’re gonna head out then. But the offer is still on the table, just give me a call,” he said seriously while you let out a small giggle while nodding your head. “I will. You two be safe, love you,” you said while sending a small kiss through the phone. “Love you too kitten,” and mimicked your kiss then hung up.
You sighed sadly as you set your phone down and getting back to your work. A good hour had passed when you heard a clank like sound from your window. You shrugged it off when all of the sudden it happened again. You furrowed your eyes when you phone went off then Tetsurou’s name coming up.
Oh Captain! <3
Open your window!!
You bit your lip to contain your smile as you got up then opened your window. There stood Kuroo and Bokuto standing in your yard with goofy smiles on their faces. Bokuto waved excitedly as Kuroo nudged Bokuto. They nodded their heads then walked closer to your window. You weren’t on a second floor but your window sat higher than a normal would. Bokuto got on his knees and Kuroo got on his shoulders as they laughed quietly to try and not draw attention. Your eyes widened as you covered your mouth to hold in your giggles.
Bokuto walked, now holding Kuroo, closer to you as Kuroo popped up flashing his goofy yet charming grin. Holding up your favorite drink, “for you my good lady.” You giggled as you took the drink then leaned in to give him a big kiss on the lips. You felt him smile in the kiss, but it was cut short from Bokuto whining. “Dude, you guys down kissing. You’re getting have bro,” he complained as you heard Kuroo sigh.
He sent you a small wink, “tomorrow you’re going to hang with us. Got it?” You nodded your head, placing a sweet kiss on his forehead. “You got it captain,” you smugly replied as he gave you on last smirk while he was lowered. When he hit the ground, you heard him tell Bokuto “we make a good team, don’t we?” You look down to see them high fiving before they waved one last time to get in Testurou’s car. You sat down with a goofy smile on your face. Yeah that’s quite a boyfriend you got.

ri’s self ship
Self ship tag:
Listen I was tagged by mother Sam @samwrights almost 3 weeks ago and this shitshow has been sitting in my notes since then. To the point where the original tag is long gone in my notifications so I cant even the low it 😭
Anyways let me clear this out and say I ship me with my original number one hq boy: Kuroo
Alrighty eye suppose
Ok so me and kuroo most definitely met our first year of college. First day of class in some random ass gen ed like history yeah that works. And y’all know how profs be like “get to know the person next to you and exchange numbers.” Now I’m like—- wow he’s hot but I know how to play it cool. Anyways so we do a quick intro and then he complements my hair
“I like the decorations,” and I do my general awkward but friendly laugh and say thanks. Anyways that’s how it starts. We finish that awkward ice breaker where it’s like “tell your neighbor why you’re taking this class” and bc we’re both sarcastic dummies it’s like “bro cause it’s fucking required”
Anyways it’s now class two and I’m one of them bitches who gets to class early (in the beginning of the year) bc I like picking my seat. So the seat I picked was in the middle row off near the end on the first day so I sit there again and then kuroo comes back and I’m shook bc i didn’t expect him to sit back there. /Alright so ima use an example of how I met one of my guy friends this past year/ so let’s say this is one of them annoying ass classes where there’s like some mini assignment due every class. So kuroo suggests how about we take turns doing the assignment and sending the other the answers. And I’m like yeah ok I could use that break every other day. So yes that’s how we get each other’s numbers
So that’s basically how the first half of the semester goes. Over time we both make some slight convo with other ppl in our class around us but still sit our unassigned assigned seats next to each other. But now it’s nearing midterms. And at this point yeah I dont come to class early anymore like I’m there like 5 minutes before but history class bro kuroo always makes sure a seat next to him is saved bc at this point he knows I’m like rushing.
Anyways I nearly knock him out with my big ass bag as i squeeze past him in these tight ass aisles and he’s all dramatic saying I’m trying to kill him and got me laughing but also frantically apologizing. Anyways he’s like “yo do you wanna study for this exam together.” I love friends but I’m actually so shy so I say yeah and we make a plan. We’re gonna link like 3 times before the exam next week. The first time being that same night.
Alright so we go about the rest of our day until it’s like 8pm and we’re both done with our own other club commitments and stuff so I’m like walking around the library looking for him slightly nervous bc attractive ppl make me nervous and we’re meeting up for the first time outside of class. I walk around in a circle like 3 times until his y’all ass pop up behind me (note I’m 5’0). “Didn’t see you there” and I’m one of them bitches that be like “woooooooow ok”
Anyways we find a little table in the back of the crowded library and yeah the first 20 minutes were not doing shit. We pull out our laptops and notes but really we’re just talking. He’s the type to as you about your day and since I’m like perpetually tired I’m like “yeah I’m ready for bed I just got out of a meeting and it was sooooo long.” And then we actually kinda find out one another’s campus involvements and he finds out I’m in a retail and food club and I find out he plays for the intermural volleyball team and his a science loser
Anyways yeah from there our friendship blooms and continues on into the following semester where we sign up for another two gen eds together and I end up meeting his old high school friend y’all and watching them mfs argue is the funniest shit. I’m always catching their dumb arguments on Snapchat
Yeah let’s fast forward to our junior years. Over the past 2 years our friendship grew from platonic to just flirtatious friends and by now we’re flirtatious friends whose touches linger just a lil longer to be platonic. By this time we’re both living in apartment buildings (it ended up being the same one) and are both hella busy with upper level classes and both have like 5 campus involvements plus jobs.
Whenever we see each other one of us is always like half dead. But we still find time to hangout even though it’s mostly at one of our apartments. Since we live in the same building and kuroo is in a bigger 3 bedroom over my 2 I tend to go upstairs to his more often.
So Its like 9pm on a Thursday night and i don’t have Friday classes and I’m finally home for the day and as soon as i shower put in my comfy sweats, wipe off my eyebrows and put on and bonnet here comes kuroo FaceTiming me. Yes we’re at the point in our friendship where we only answer with half of our faces. “You don’t have any other friends come keep me company”
Bc he’s hit and my friend I’m like yeah whatever and go up the 2 floors to his place and he’s literally at his desk doing homework. “You made me get out of bed to watch you do homework” and he just does that stupid smirk before telling me I can just chill on his bed. So listen I think he’s the type to keep his room fucking freezing so I’m like getting under his covers and he asks me to play dj.
Now ok my music taste is all over the place but my main genre is rnb so yeah. Kuroo knows this and over the years I put him on to a lot of it so yeah I’m gonna turn on Brent faiyaz and he’s just over at his desk working and vibing. He tells me he likes my music taste (and bc I throw in a lil bit of everything for him)
As two Scorpio’s were both used to lowkey subtly making people do what we want them to do. So like it’s the cat and mouse type game with us and we keep tryna make the other person take it further
We don’t even know when we start dating shit it’s just one day “y’all dating?” “Yeah” so much for an anniversary date
I’d hang out with him way too much bc my lack of friends is sickening. And I like doing random shit so let’s go to the park at 3am and hope we don’t get in trouble
I’m hungry at 3am let’s go a store that’s open 24 hours and deliriously roam the half stocked aisles
At this point kuroo just invites himself over on my Sunday wash days bc he knows that shit is gonna taken hours. ESPECIALLY when I’m taking my braids out
Kuroo the type of bf to help me take my braids out and not be completely grossed out at the dirt residue from the hair style. “Baby what if I put this under a microscope” yeah he’s disgusting though
He’s also the bf to try and help me detangling every time but my scalp is v sensitive so at some point I’m just like “yeah I’m gonna need you to STOP”
We’re both chaotic is this even a relationship or are we just besties? I’m that annoying friend that tries to record everything but he’s so tall in comparison to me that he gets cut off the camera half the time
We’re both annoying and stay ready with witty comebacks so we playfully bicker way too much but it’s fun and we’re still inseparable
Idk what I’m doing here so ima end and sum up and say kuroo best boy. Best boy also dates and is your best friend and that is LITERALLY my vibe 110%
idk im very late to this trend so um i tag anyone who wants to do this
#ri rambles#this is terrible and i literally did zero editing and i hope its coherent#im not good at shipping myself smh i need to be objective#is this going on my masterlist? girl idk

The Small Things
Written for Bokuroo Week 2019
Day Three: April 3rd - Intimacy
AO3
“I just feel like I have to do something big, you know? Because it’s Valentines and it’s our first one together and our last one as high schoolers so it has to be big and memorable.” Sarukui spoke up after they had been studying for exactly sixty-two seconds. Sarukui was the only one of them with a significant other so the rest of the Fukurodani third years just stared blankly at him, various utensils hovering in air as they struggled to grasp the concept of pressure on a lovers holiday.
“You have to watch out for that,” Komi let out a long, deep sigh that only a heartbroken teenager could produce. His own girlfriend had broken up with him before Nationals, stating that she wanted to be a priority in someone's life. None of them had understood that either and Akaashi had looked increasingly constipated the longer they discussed it in the locker room. “Girls crave big romantic gestures.” He was booed by the rest of the boys for that one, dodging flying pencils and a whole pencil case at one point.
“Everyone loves big romantic gestures, unless you’re dead inside.” Sarukui gave Komi a pointed look.
“I don’t know.” Bokuto spoke up, which was really a surprise to all of them that he had been so quiet up until that point. But then they saw his phone in his hand, the one Washio had confiscated earlier so that Bokuto would be forced to study. His eyes didn’t leave the screen as he typed an absurd amount of emojis, seemingly trying to bring back hieroglyphics single-handedly. “Small gestures are important too.”
“Yeah but big ones are more important.” Komi said. He wasn’t much invested in the conversation but he was invested in putting off studying economics.
“Think of it this way.” Bokuto slapped his phone down onto the table, they all glanced at the screen and weren’t even surprised to see who Bokuto had stolen his phone back for. The picture on the screen for the person looked like two pillows with a hand smashed on top but they all knew how one Kuroo Tetsurou slept. “You could skip eating all day and have one big meal at the end and yeah, you’d be fine I’m sure but you’d be starving all day?” Konoha narrowed his eyes as they all thought over Bokuto’s words.
“Are we getting dumber or is Bokuto actually making sense?” Konoha asked, earning a indignant sound from Bokuto who tried to throw his English book at Konoha before being stopped by Washio.
“So you’re saying I should be doing what? Getting her a single flower everyday instead of buying her a bouquet on Valentine's Day?” Sarukui pulled a face. “How am I ever going to afford that?” He asked, opening his already empty wallet. A candy fell out and everyone made a grab for it as Sarukui cried out.
“You could pick a flower for her.” Washio offered as he unwrapped the pilfered candy before popping it into his mouth.
“That’s just things.” Bokuto said, picking up his phone once more when it pinged with a new message. He beamed brightly at whatever was written.
“Where’s Akaashi when you need him?” Sarukui slumped against the table, mourning the loss of his last candy and the fact that his girlfriend was liable to break up with him because he was useless and he had useless friends.
“He has to study for his own exams.” Bokuto answered helpfully in a completely unhelpful way considering they all already knew that. “Plus you don’t need him when you’ve got the best, most smartest person around!”
“You’re right.” Sarukui sat up suddenly and Bokuto preened happily. “Komi your brother has been dating the same girl for three years, is he home?” Bokuto whined as they all laughed.
“I meant me!” Bokuto pressed his chin against the table, pouting up at them all until they stopped laughing and prompted him to explain himself. “Big, flashy displays of affection are awesome! Like when my parents had to go take care of my grandma for a week when she broke her hip and I was alone so Kuroo came over and kept my company and we’d go back to his house for dinner most nights and he even made me bentos for that whole week!”
The other four teens watched Bokuto with varying degrees of emotions as something seemed to be clicking into place for all of them. Bokuto, bolstered by their undivided attention, continued on.
“And that was great and he’s the best bro for doing that but it’s the little things too, right?” Bokuto sat up a little straighter as he really got into recounting everything. “Like when he stays for extra practices during camps just to help me out even though he gets tired at like nine o’clock or when he laughs so hard he has to put his hand on my shoulder to keep him upright and it’s all warm- oh, and how he always sends me bad Japanese translations of movies when he knows I had a bad day. Or when he lets me sleep on his shoulder on the train because I always get really tired on them, I don’t know why but Akaashi always wakes me up because he’s worried that if I fall asleep when no one is there I’ll just be on the train forever but Kuroo lets me sleep and is even a good enough bro to let me use him as a pillow. And he-”
“Dude.” Konoha interrupted.
“Are you and the cat dating?” Komi asked bluntly.
“It makes so much sense now.” Sarukui covered his mouth as if everything were falling into place before him.
“What? No!” Bokuto shook his head, waving his arms when that didn’t seem to be enough. “I mean I love Kuroo, he’s like the best person ever? His laugh is so ugly and loud and it always makes me laugh and all his jokes go over my head because he’s way too smart but I just like the way he looks so proud when he tells one. And yeah sometimes we hold hands but that’s only so we don’t get separated in a crowd, you know how distracted I can get. And he sometimes lets me sleep in his bed but that’s just because Kenma is usually using the guest futon! And we do kind of cuddle on the couch while watching movies and he says it’s so I don’t get scared but he’s the one who tries to hide behind me and-” Bokuto trailed off as he stared into space.
The echoing silence in the room was suddenly broken by the pinging of Bokuto’s phone. They all looked down to see not one, not two but three heart emojis followed by a gif of someone doing a very exaggerated wink.
“Huh.” Bokuto sent back at least five kissy emojis, an automatic response he didn’t even seem to be aware of. He closed out of the conversation with Kuroo before dialing Akaashi’s number and putting it on speaker.
“You’re supposed to be studying.” Akaashi’s dry tone came through the tiny speaker.
“Hey hey hey ‘kaash! I was just wondering if I’m dating Kuroo?” Bokuto asked.
“If you have to ask then you probably have your answer.” Akaashi said, tone hardly changing but they had all grown to know the second year fairly well. He was putting on an exasperated front but he could barely hide the fondness there too. “Here, you take this.” Akaashi said to someone else in the room.
“Hello?” Kuroo’s slightly higher pitched voice came on the line, sounding confused.
“Kuroo!” Bokuto yelled happily. “What are you doing with Akaashi?”
“I came over to keep Kenma company and he was already here.” Kuroo answered.
“More like you barged in and now won’t leave.” Kenma’s flat voice drifted to the speaker.
“Cool, oh hey Kuroo?” Bokuto asked as Kuroo hummed in answer.
“He’s not gonna just-” Konoha mumbled but Bokuto kept speaking.
“Are we dating?”
“Oh he did, he did just ask.” Konoha rubbed his face as Washio rubbed his back comfortingly.
“Do you want to?” Kuroo asked, voice softer than he probably meant it to be.
“Yes.” Bokuto answered after only thinking about it for half a second.
“Great, want to watch scary movies and order take out for Valentines day?” Kuroo asked casually though Bokuto could picture the big, slightly lopsided grin on his face all too clearly.
“That sounds great!” Bokuto cheered, wondering if maybe he could do some extra chores around the house to get money to buy Kuroo flowers. The others had mentioned flowers for valnetines, right?
“I’ll let you pick the food if you get all your homework done before this weekend.” Kuroo bribed.
“Deal!” Bokuto answered quickly, already pulling books and papers to himself, most of them not his own.
“I should go, Kenma is getting jealous.” Kuroo spoke up and they all heard the ‘get out of my house’ in the background before Bokuto yelled out a goodbye.
Bokuto buckled down, filling out answers to a maths homework that already had Komi’s name written on the top of it. Komi thought about correcting him but Bokuto was pretty decent at maths and Komi was admittedly not so much, so he let it go.
“What the fuck just happened?” Konoha cried out in disbelief.

The Unexpected Disadvantages of a Cuddly Roommate
Title: The Unexpected Disadvantages of a Cuddly Roommate
Fandom: Haikyuu!!
Pairing: Bokuto Koutarou/Kuroo Tetsurou
Rating: T.
Word Count: 3 k.
Summary: Having a gigantic, unrequited crush on your high school friend and roommate isn’t easy. Especially when said roommate is the most cuddly and affectionate person in existence.
There is only so much Kuroo’s poor heart can take.
[Read it on AO3]
When he and Bokuto signed the lease to what would be their apartment for the entirety of their college years, Kuroo didn’t expect to develop a gigantic crush on him. How could he have known that there would come a time when his high school rival and friend would become the object of his adoration? That there would come a time when Bokuto’s loud, boisterous laughter would go from being slightly obnoxious, to becoming one of his favorite sounds in the world? That there would come a time when he would find his heart thumping wildly against his ribcage every time Bokuto said his name, or looked at him with those big yellow eyes of his?
He couldn’t. He couldn’t have possibly known, for fuck’s sake.
He should have known, though. Bokuto is as fine as can be, and Kuroo has always been keenly aware of that fact. Of course, there is a big difference between admiring your friend’s looks, and wanting to pin him against a wall and kiss him breathless every time you see him leave his bedroom in the morning in nothing but his boxers, Kuroo can admit that to himself. But the more time he spends with Bokuto, the more Kuroo realizes that falling for him was the most obvious outcome of sharing an apartment with him.
Not only is Bokuto a hunk, he is also sweet, and funny, and caring. They have dozens of shared interests, and their senses of humor complement each other in the best of ways. Over time, even Bokuto’s denseness ended up becoming endearing to Kuroo, something that he would have never thought possible. That doesn’t mean that Kuroo doesn’t get the urge to kill him whenever he forgets to separate the laundry and ends up dying their white clothes pink, or whenever he places things in the fridge in the exact place where they’ll fall once either of them opens the fridge again. It’s just that being Bokuto Koutarou’s roommate implies developing a great amount of patience, and a certain fondness for his antics.
Besides, Kuroo is aware of his faults as a roommate as well, with his habit of getting up at 3 in the morning to pour himself a bowl of cereal, his inability to cook anything other than rice, and a couple variations of eggs, and a tendency to leave the laundry in the dryer. He can’t go judging Bokuto too harshly.
It took him nearly a year to admit to himself that he had a crush on Bokuto, and another half a year to admit it out loud, once he could no longer stand Kenma’s judgmental looks every time his eyes trailed on Bokuto’s butt as he walked away, or he laughed a little too long at one of his dumb jokes.
By the middle of his sophomore year, Kuroo realized that he was slowly going from having a crush, to falling completely in love. So, knowing full-well that his feelings would never be returned, Kuroo decided to get over his crush, and move on.
But that soon proved to be much harder than he initially thought, especially for one particular reason: as it turns out, Bokuto is an incredibly affectionate and cuddly person. And that would be fine, maybe, if Kuroo’s heart didn’t do all kinds of somersaults and cartwheels every time he felt the warmth of Bokuto’s skin on his own. Maybe, if he wasn’t steadily falling head over heels for him, Kuroo would have been able to handle the insane amount of physical affection that Bokuto gave and demanded. But that wasn’t the case, and remaining calm and contained whenever Bokuto casually cuddled up to him like it was nothing was becoming increasingly hard.
Bokuto’s tendency to touch Kuroo started simply enough: an arm slung over his shoulder while they watched movies together, a soft pat on his hip on his way to the fridge, a foot resting on his calf when they sat on the floor doing their homework together. Kuroo was fine with that. He could manage that, and he would be lying if he said that he didn’t like it.
But soon enough, it evolved into big, tight hugs whenever Kuroo came back to their apartment, and resting his head on Kuroo’s shoulder while they watched movies, and doing their homework on Kuroo’s bed instead of the floor, with their legs casually tangled together.
When Kuroo found himself being spooned by Bokuto in the middle of their monthly Saint Seiya marathon, he had the sudden realization that, no matter how hard he tried to forgo any romantic feelings for him, if Bokuto kept cuddling him and touching him all the time, he would never achieve his goal.
He kept trying, though. Kuroo Tetsurou may be many things, but he is not a quitter.
Right now, as he stands in the hallway of their apartment complex in front of their door after a very long and exhausting day, he tries his best to muster enough energy to deal with Bokuto’s oblivious affection without snapping and proposing to him on the spot, or something stupid like that.
Heaving a defeated sigh, Kuroo pushes his key into lock, and pushes the door open to step into his and Bokuto’s apartment. He hasn’t even finished taking off his shoes, when Bokuto’s head pops in from behind the doorway to the living room, his trademark broad, bright smile already in place. Kuroo both hates and loves how the mere sight of him manages to make his heart flutter.
“Hey, you’re back!” Bokuto exclaims, stepping out of the doorway and towards him. He reaches him in three long strides, and promptly wraps his arms around him in a tight hug. Kuroo closes his eyes, and breathes in slowly. Bokuto smells of apple-scented hair wax, soap, and something he can’t quite discern, but it’s so undoubtedly him, that Kuroo can’t help but to love it. His warmth feels so familiar surrounding his body, cold from the chilly breeze that blows outside, and Kuroo welcomes it eagerly, not without a pang of longing in his chest.
“Hey, Bo,” he returns the greeting, wrapping his arms around Bokuto’s broad, strong back, and patting him on the shoulder a couple times.
“I missed you!” Bokuto exclaims once they step away from their hug, and Kuroo instantly misses being inside his arms. Bokuto gives his shoulder an affectionate squeeze before returning to the living room, with Kuroo trailing behind him. “How was your day?”
“It was…” Kuroo stops to consider the question for a couple seconds, and then shrugs his shoulders. “Meh.”
“Well,” Bokuto starts, flopping down onto the couch and grabbing the TV remote. “Nothing that a Saint Seiya marathon can’t fix!”
“Saint Seiya again?”
“Come on, bro. We both know you can never get enough of Saint Seiya.”
“True,” Kuroo concedes with a tiny smile. Bokuto pats the couch right next to him, and Kuroo is there in a heartbeat.
He does sit on the other edge of the couch, though, determined, for the sake of his cardiac health, to not fall victim to Bokuto’s cuddly nature again.
But before he can do anything about it, his head is resting on Bokuto’s lap, and Bokuto’s fingers are combing through his hair, his nails scratching his scalp in the most pleasant way. Kuroo mentally curses his lack of self-restraint, but also makes no effort to get out of the very comfortable position he is currently in.
He tries his darned best to focus his attention on the screen, instead of on the feel of Bokuto’s fingers playing with his hair. But it is a useless effort, and he becomes more and more aware of every single one of Bokuto’s movements with every passing second.
“Bro, your hair is so soft,” Bokuto mumbles all of sudden, his voice filled with a strange sort of admiration.
Kuroo turns his head on Bokuto’s lap to look at him, eyebrows arched in surprise at the sudden compliment. Bokuto smiles down at him, and Kuroo is very mad that he manages to look so innocent when he is the one to blame for the inhuman rhythm at which his heart is currently beating.
“Maybe if you eased down on the hair wax, your hair would be soft too.”
“Hey, are you saying you don’t like my hair?”
“I’ve been telling you that your hair is ridiculous for years!”
“Like you’re one to talk!”
Bokuto jabs his finger into Kuroo’s waist right underneath his ribs, making him squirm and laugh a little. Kuroo immediately slaps his hand away, but Bokuto doesn’t relent, quickly pressing his fingers against Kuroo’s belly in a way he knows is gonna tickle. Kuroo responds with an indignant yelp, and sits up and away from Bokuto, shooting him a nasty glare.
“Don’t,” he whispers, eyes squinted and hands raised in defense.
“It’s too late, bro.” Bokuto, who is far from being deterred by the warning tone of Kuroo’s voice, slowly inches closer with a mischievous grin, and a look that can only be described as ‘predatory’. If he wasn’t so worried about protecting his dignity, Kuroo would probably be more than a little turned on at the sight.
“I’m warning you, Bo, don’t-!” Kuroo’s final warning is cut short by a high-pitched scream when Bokuto practically pounces on him, his fingers mercilessly digging into his belly, and his undignified scream is soon turned into loud, desperate laughter. “No! Get off me! Get off me, you big jerk!” he begs whenever he can catch a breath in between loud bouts of laugher. Bokuto merely laughs in response, refusing to stop his assault on Kuroo’s ribs for more than one second at a time.
Kuroo kicks his feet and pushes at Bokuto’s face and chest to no avail. Bokuto is too strong, and while Kuroo is the first one to admire the magnificence of his gigantic biceps and broad chest, right now he curses them more than anything.
But despite being initially overpowered, Kuroo emerges victorious after a couple minutes when he manages to get all of Bokuto’s 180 pounds off of him by wrapping his legs around his waist, and throwing both of them to the floor. Bokuto’s back slams against the carpet, and he lets a tiny “oof” when Kuroo lands on him, straddling his hips to keep him in place. Before Bokuto can even attempt to resume his assault, Kuroo grabs his wrists, and has his arms pinned on both sides of his head in no time.
“Hey, let go of me!” Bokuto whines, struggling against Kuroo’s hold.
“It’s over, Anakin!” Kuroo exclaims, tightening his grip on Bokuto’s wrists, and pressing his knees against Bokuto’s ribs. “I have the high ground!”
“Ugh, you nerd!”
Kuroo laughs heartily, a mocking remark already making its way out of his lips. But the sentence crashes and dies at the back of his throat before it gets the chance to be uttered, as soon as a couple facts catch up to him. The first one: he is currently sitting on top of Bokuto, with his ass resting quite comfortably on Bokuto’s crotch. And the second one: Bokuto is blushing a very deep shade of pink.
“Um, Tetsu?” Bokuto’s voice snaps him out of his thoughts. Kuroo’s eyes widen when he realizes that Bokuto is probably very aware of Fact Number One, and a blush of his own starts to creep its way into his cheeks.
“Mmm?” he hums in response, unable to come up with a more eloquent response.
“Dude, you’re kind of…” Bokuto clears his throat, and tears his eyes from Kuroo’s face, suddenly finding the ceiling immensely interesting. “You’re kind of, like, sitting on my junk right now.”
Kuroo doesn’t move an inch, his brain still attempting to compute the situation that he suddenly finds himself in. Then, without a word, he hastily lets go of Bokuto’s wrists, and scrambles to get off him as fast as he can.
Before he can, though, Bokuto grabs him firmly by the hips to stop his movements. Kuroo freezes in place, a wave of shock washing over his entire body. Meanwhile, Bokuto’s face has reached a shade of pink that Kuroo would have never thought the human body was capable of achieving.
“Um, Bo?” he mumbles after a momentary silence. “What… are you doing?”
Bokuto is doing his best to avoid his gaze, his lower lip worried between his teeth, and his brows furrowed over the bridge of his nose. He doesn’t answer right away. His fingers feel impossibly warm on Kuroo’s hips, a warmth so pleasant that he nearly doesn’t notice that they are trembling slightly.
“I… I really don’t want you to move,” Bokuto’s voice finally shatters the silence, barely louder than a whisper.
And for the first time in nearly two years, Kuroo considers the possibility that, maybe, maybe, his crush isn’t as unrequited as he initially thought.
He can practically hear his blood rushing to his face as his heart begins to beat even faster than before, slamming wildly against his ribcage. He stammers and splutters for a few moments, struggling to utter more than two coherent words together.
“You can move if you want to!” Bokuto exclaims when he notices Kuroo’s sudden inability to function normally. He hastily lets go of him, but Kuroo quickly grabs his wrists to place his hands back on his hips.
“I don’t want to move!” Kuroo exclaims, wide-eyed.
Bokuto blinks owlishly up at him, returning his wide-eyed gaze with more than a little surprise. Then, he sits up in one fluid motion, and, without a warning, crashes his lips against Kuroo’s.
Kuroo doesn’t stop to think. He knows that if he does, his head will probably explode, or melt, or both. Instead of that, he focuses on returning the kiss, burying his fingers in Bokuto’s ridiculously waxed hair. Bokuto pulls him even closer to his chest, his fingers digging into Kuroo’s hips even harder than before. The kiss is awkward at first, their lips pressed together in a way that makes their teeth clash, and their noses squeezed against one another almost painfully. And still, it is more than either of them could have ever asked for.
Kuroo manages to get his body to move after a few seconds, tilting his head in the right way so that their lips slide together more comfortably. Bokuto can’t hold back a whimper, tightening his grip on Kuroo’s hips, and Kuroo nearly does the same. Bokuto’s lips are so ridiculously soft and full that it nearly makes him angry. But he is kissing them right now, after nearly two years of wanting nothing more than to do so, and anger is the last thing he could feel right now.
They part only when breathing becomes a difficult task, taking in big gulps of air, and sighing heavily against each other’s lips. They stare silently at each other with heavily-lidded eyes, barely moving at all, both of them feeling like their hearts are going to jump out of their chests any second.
“I can’t believe I just kissed you,” Bokuto whispers after a few moments. The sound of his voice breaking the silence carries with it a stunning realization that hits them both with the force of a freight train.
Kuroo leans away from Bokuto, fingers still buried in his hair, and gives him a look of utter shock and disbelief.
“I can’t believe you just kissed me!” he exclaims loudly, and Bokuto immediately mimics his expression, also leaning away from him.
“Dude, I’ve had a crush on you since we moved in!” he nearly yells.
Kuroo momentarily wonders if he somehow managed to fall into some sort of alternate reality without realizing.
“Bro, me too!”
“I-I thought you’d never like me that way!”
“Why the hell would you think that!?” Kuroo exclaims, fully aware that his attempts to hide his feelings for Bokuto were nothing short of mediocre. Even someone as dense as Bokuto had to have his suspicions.
“I don’t know, you never made a move!”
“That was only because I thought you weren’t interested in me!”
“What!? Dude, you’re, like, perfect! Why wouldn’t I be interested in you!?” Bokuto’s words are filled with indignation, as if the mere implication that he could be anything but head-over-heels for Kuroo is nothing short of offensive.
Kuroo has to take a moment to appreciate such an adorable confession, his heart swelling with sheer, uncontained adoration.
“Is that why you kept cuddling me?” he asks after regaining his composure a little.
“Duh! I thought I was being obvious!” Bokuto frowns, a tiny pout forming on his lips. “What, you thought I was, like, exceptionally cuddly or something?”
“Yes!”
Bokuto slowly shakes his head in disbelief, his mind unable to process the amount of Kuroo’s obliviousness.
“God, Tetsu, for being such a smart guy, you’re actually pretty dumb.”
“Shut up,” Kuroo says, a badly concealed smile tinting his voice.
He leans in to kiss Bokuto again, their lips finding their perfect place against each other on the first try this time. And they keep kissing, and laughing, and teasing each other well into the night, tangled up on the living room floor, and then on the sofa once the carpet is no longer comfortable enough.
The next morning, the first rays of sunlight find them a mess of tangled limbs on top of the cushions, with their Saint Seiya DVD still playing in the background. And when those first rays of sunlight hit Kuroo’s eyes and awaken him, the first thing he sees is Bokuto’s sleeping face, so familiar, yet so full of unknown subtleties he longs to discover.
And as those first rays of sunlight hit Bokuto’s eyes and awake him as well, Kuroo’s loving gaze is met with soft, golden yellow. And at that moment, Kuroo thinks that, maybe, having a massive crush on your high school friend and roommate is not such a bad thing, after all.

Race to the Finish
Tsukishima stormed into the dorm room, wet, seething, and holding an equally damp cat. Numerous scratches covered his face and arms, and he marched right up to Kuroo, who was sitting on the floor surrounded by papers, and dropped the cat unceremoniously in his lap. Kuroo barely caught it before it dripped onto everything around him.
“Hey! What’s the big idea?” he said, looking up at Tsukki. He was about to say more, but his voice faltered in his throat.
“That’s it,” the blonde growled. “I am not listening to you or Bokuto ever again.”
Bokuto sat up from where he’d been sprawled on the armchair. “The cat didn’t work?”
“The cat was never going to work! Yamaguchi probably thinks I’m as much of a moron as you two. I could’ve - I don’t even know why I listen to you two idiots.”
“Well,” Kuroo drawled, setting the cat down out of reach of his things. “I have Kenma!”
Bokuto’s gaze drifted to the ceiling, dreamy. “And I have Akaashi…”
Clenching a fist, Tsukishima jabbed an index finger at Kuroo. “You can only make pathetic heart eyes at Kenma, and you” --The finger was jabbed equally violently in Bokuto’s direction-- “either swallow your tongue every time Akaashi so much as looks your way or yell unintelligibly. So don’t go around giving shitty advice when you can’t even get your own crushes to like you.”
Kuroo sat back, propping himself up on his hands and looking up at Tsukki thoughtfully. “Is that a challenge?” It sounded more like an honest question rather than his usual provocation.
The blonde was slightly taken aback, to say the least. “What?”
“Ooh!” Bokuto cut in. “You mean like a ‘let’s see who can date their crush first’ race?”
Tsukki blinked and shook his head. “No. Stop that right there. Don’t even think about it.”
But Kuroo had already turned to Bokuto, eyes alight. “Bet I can make a move on Kenma before you do on Akaashi.”
Bokuto returned the shit-eating grin. “I bet I can do it today!”
Kuroo was already standing, homework forgotten. “Not if I get there first.”
Bokuto hurried to scramble off the couch and took off for the door after him. “Last one has to take twice the number of shots next time!”
The two of them were nearly wedged in the door and tripped over each other into the hallway, then scrambled upright and took off in opposite directions.
Tsukishima stared at the door, then at the cat, who stopped licking itself to blink back at him.
“I am completely and thoroughly fucked,” he told it.
He was halfway out the door before he realized he should probably take a shower.
********
Kuroo and Bokuto were back in the room as he came back in, both lying on the floor.
“They’re in class,” Tsukishima guessed, rummaging for a clean shirt.
They both nodded forlornly.
“Akaashi’s professor ‘didn’t appreciate me barging in on his class,’” Bokuto sighed. “Not even when I told him my health depended on it.”
“Kenma’s professor didn’t even listen to me,” Kuroo added sadly. “I think I’ve got a bruise on my backside.”
Tsukishima snorted. “That’s why you ask them when they’re uh, not in class?”
Kuroo slowly sat up. “I need like, flowers, or a carrier pigeon or some shit.”
Bokuto flopped against him. “Bro, maybe you should be the one to use the cat.”
He gasped. “Maybe I should! Or I could…” He started to list absurd ways to ask Kenma out, many of which could potentially get him slapped.
Tsukki pulled on a shirt and checked the time. He wasn’t about to tell the two idiots that they were screwed. Instead, he intended to win the game before they even knew what was happening.
“Oi, where you going?” Bokuto called as he was about to exit the room.
“Out,” was all Tsukki said before he ducked out, avoiding any more questions.
*****
Tsukishima found Yamaguchi easily enough, sitting in the library with an open chemistry textbook. He had to pause in the doorway as he realized Kuroo would probably make a pun or pickup line out of that, then shook his head. He wasn’t about to try any of their stupid ideas, like hiring a celebrity to ask him out, or making a vine, or even the horrendous “fruit and suit” idea. He was going to do this plain and simple and just… ask.
Which was definitely not the reason why he found himself frozen in place. He willed himself to move forward, to talk to the guy he’d spent so much time with already, the guy he didn’t have to think or filter himself around, to do something, but his feet betrayed him again, stuck as if nailed to the floor. When they did move, it wasn’t in the right direction. They started to move backward. And then they wouldn’t stop.
Silently, he cursed his feet, and his entire body as he realized that Yamaguchi had looked up, smiled, and waved, and all it could do to react was dry up his throat. Even before he could think to lift a hand in response, he turned around so fast he almost crashed into the door, and broke into a run.
Bokuto and Kuroo took one look at his face and each silently slid over a drink.
**********
Bokuto wanted to be extravagant. Only the best for those he loved, right? And Akaashi was undoubtedly at the top of that category. He felt himself getting jittery just at the thought of him, wanting to climb to the roof and shout to the world that Akaashi Keiji was the most beautiful person on Earth. At that point, he may as well have just done it, but he wasn’t sure that Akaashi would appreciate the gesture, even if he did tolerate Bokuto’s larger-than-life presence on a daily basis.
He already knew that Akaashi liked romance novels, so there must be a side of him that would enjoy an over-the-top romantic gesture, if only to bring reality up to fictional expectations in some way. But he also didn’t care to be the center of attention, so Bokuto knew he couldn’t make this very public or exposed.
He’d been thinking about this for hours as he absently spiked a volleyball at the opposite wall until the next dorm room yelled at him to stop. Many ideas had been flitting through his head, congregating in corners and crowding each other out until none of it made sense anymore. He didn’t have the money to fly Akaashi all the way to the Eiffel Tower, wouldn’t serenade him first thing in the morning for fear of invoking his wrath, didn’t have the writing skill to send him a letter from the future as if they were married and tell him he’d disrupt the flow of the universe if he didn’t marry or at least date him.
The cat from earlier, which none of them had had the heart to return, wandered in and leapt onto the bed as if it was the one that slept there, not Bokuto. Bokuto looked at it. The huge eyes seemed to be mocking him, as if the cat had a better idea of how to ask Akaashi out than Bokuto did.
“Well?” he asked, slightly frustrated. “It’s not like you’re going to…” He stopped, staring at the cat. Then he was out the door in a flash, sprinting for a certain classroom.
The professor glanced up as he entered and smiled kindly at him. “Can I help you, Bokuto-kun?”
“I need to borrow Konoha,” he said, not even out of breath despite having sprinted across the entire campus.
She frowned slightly. “Whatever for?”
Bokuto gave her a pleading look. “Please, it’s important! I promise I won’t get him in trouble and I’ll return him to you by the end of the day!”
“Boku--”
“Please.”
The professor sighed slightly and stood to retreat into the back room, coming out with a beautiful Eurasian eagle owl. Bokuto hurriedly tugged on a pair of gloves and held out a hand for the bird, who fluttered onto it without much protest.
“Thank you, professor!” he barely remembered to say before hurrying out of the room and back to the dorm.
Back in the safety of his bed, he let Konoha perch on his desk as he pulled out a notebook and a pencil. All he had to do was write a note, something that would definitely get Akaashi to go out with him.
That turned out to be the hard part. He could talk about all the ways in which Akaashi was perfect, but he wasn’t sure where to begin or how to put that into words. He could talk about all the times he’d wanted more or trailed off just thinking about him, but that could be creepy in itself too.
After about an hour, he tried opening the window for some air, as if that would clear his thoughts. After twenty-six crumpled notes, he’d started chewing his pencil in frustration. After the fourth time he barely caught Konoha trying to escape through the window, he was ready to snap at the bird, but couldn’t risk it.
When he made the mistake of going to the bathroom, the owl was gone by the time he came back.
**********
Every idea Kuroo came up with seemed to be even more stupid than the last. Emailing himself a reminder to ask out the most beautiful person in the world and ‘accidentally’ including Kenma in the recipients? Being a chicken and asking in a loud place so he could fake that he wasn’t actually asking him out if he got rejected? Handing him a clock and saying ‘It’s time for me to make my move’ and kissing him? Kenma would either laugh at him or worse, not take him seriously.
He closed his eyes briefly, stopping under his favorite tree in the science wing courtyard. From the Tsukishima experience, he knew that the cat wasn't actually a reliable way to go. Daichi wouldn't be much of a help because he hadn't even needed to ask Suga out. The only person he could think to go to that actually had his love life sorted out was probably going to be the last person to give him advice. However, he was getting rather desperate at this point, so he trudged over to a dorm not far from theirs.
“Tetsurou,” Matsukawa greeted, a smirk playing on his face. “What brings you and your bedhead here, my swiggity swoogity bro?” The fact that he used these terms ironically in this context would have grated on Kuroo’s nerves if he were anyone else.
“Hey,” he returned, walking into the room and sitting on the floor. “Sit down, we’re gonna have a talk.”
“For your information, Uncle Tetsu, I almost got the talk when I was fourteen but prevented it by pretending Makki was my boyfriend.” Matsukawa sat across from him anyway. Kuroo picked up a stray magazine and chucked it at his face.
“I know, I know, you’ve both been disgusting since then,” Kuroo laughed. “Anyway, this isn’t about you. Much. I’m, uh, asking about Kenma.”
One eyebrow arched high, threatening to disappear into Matsukawa’s curly hair. “You gonna make a move on pudding head? Talk about finally growing a pair. What’s it been, ten years?”
“Fuck you,” Kuroo grumbled. “I need ideas.”
The other’s face grew pensive, and he leaned forward thoughtfully, voice suddenly serious. “You know, if you placed a walkie talkie somewhere in his room, you could repeatedly ask him out while he sleeps. Then it’ll seep into his subconscious, so when you do ask him out in real life, it won’t be a big deal.”
It took Kuroo about two seconds to register that, and then he shoved him backward. Mattsun didn’t even notice, laughing hysterically and clutching his sides.
“Why did I even come to you?” he wondered aloud, getting to his feet. But there was a hand tugging him back down.
“No, no, wait, stay,” Matsukawa wheezed. “I’ll help, promise.”
Kuroo looked at him for a second, then sat back down slowly.
“I’m not gonna give you straight up dating advice because that’s catered to one grand stereotype that tries to fit every relationship and fails. So yeah, let’s talk specifically Kenma. The kid’s blunt as hell, so he’d appreciate if you were too. I say don’t overthink it, and just ask. Not gonna kill you if you don’t get all extravagant and extra on him.”
“But--”
“No buts, Tetsurou. Do it or I’ll do it for you.”
“But you’ve got me to do,” said another voice, coming through the doorway. Kuroo groaned as Hanamaki set down his bag and made himself comfortable in Matsukawa’s lap.
“Later,” Mattsun promised with a wave of his hand. “We’re figuring out Tetsurou’s mess of a love life first.”
“Oh no, that’s my cue to leave.” Kuroo heaved himself off the ground and made a beeline for the door. “Thanks and all, but I’ll think of something. Have fun sucking face or whatever, I’m out.”
Their laughter followed him out the door.
**********
“Okay okay, but, what about this? You hand him two sets of keys and tell him one is for your heart, and the other is stolen from the janitor!”
Nishinoya barely finished his sentence before bursting into laughter, Tanaka joining him on the floor of the room. Sugawara barely restrained Tsukishima from strangling them.
“Look, Kei-kun,” Suga said. “These two may not be helping, but honestly, the only person that can truly help you is you. Maybe you don’t want to hear that right now, but you know Yamaguchi best, so you know what he’d want best. If not, then think about how you’d want to be asked out.”
“Just a second,” Tsukishima said, holding up a hand. At Nishinoya and Tanaka, he growled, “My name is Kei, not key.” Then he turned back to Sugawara, ignoring their protests that they already knew that. “What Yamaguchi would want is probably sweet,” he said, “even if it’s not fancy or anything. The problem is, I can’t do sweet. Never worked that way.”
“Then don’t work that way,” he said simply. “If you want a relationship with him, he’s going to have to deal with you as you are anyway.”
Tsukishima had nothing to say to that. Instead, he sighed and slumped into Sugawara’s desk chair.
“Hey,” Nishinoya spoke up. “If it makes you feel any better, I got with Asahi by spilling coffee on his pants, then stuffing the pockets with rose petals after I washed them and gave them back to him.”
“Yeah, but you’re…” He gestured vaguely at Nishinoya. “That. And I’m… this.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Tanaka cut in, but Sugawara shushed him.
“Kei-kun, if you’re racing Kuroo-san and Bokuto-san anyway, a simple confession might be the easiest anyway,” he said. “Less time to plan something, right?”
“Who said I was racing them?” he grumbled. “I just said they’re having a race.”
“The point of a race is to win, right?” Nishinoya pointed out, ignoring him. “So go talk to him already!”
“But--”
“Go!” Noya and Tanaka were already hauling him to his feet and pushing him out the door, and Sugawara was laughing instead of helping him. “It’s now or never!”
He was promptly deposited outside the dorm room. “Don’t come back ‘til you’ve confessed to pretty boy,” Tanaka snickered before closing the door in his face.
Some friends he had.
Taking a deep breath, he decided he had nothing to lose anymore. The cat incident had to be the worst it could get. So he went to find Yamaguchi once again.
A quick text confirmed he was in the library again, and this time, instead of letting his body control him, he willed himself to march right over and nearly fell into the seat next to him.
“Hi!” Yamaguchi said perhaps a little too brightly, looking up from his work. “Are you alright? You sort of ran away twice, I wasn’t sure if I did anything or you were still embarrassed from the cat incident and you don’t have to apologize or anything because I just hope the cat is okay and you’re okay because I really like you and it wouldn't be great if the person I like suddenly stopped talking to me because they were embarrassed and--”
“Wait.” It was only one word, but it was enough to stop him.
“Yes?”
“You like me.” It wasn't a question. The statement felt wonderful on his tongue.
“Oh god, did I really say that out loud?”
“Yes.” He couldn't stop staring.
Yamaguchi twisted his fingers. “And do you…”
“Yes.” God, he wanted to say more.
But the other seemed to get it, as he'd always done, and Tsukki really did love him for it.
When Yamaguchi leaned over to brush a light kiss on his cheek, he felt it all that much more.
**********
It took Bokuto four hours, but he finally found the owl.
In Akaashi’s room.
With all his failed letters.
Apparently he hadn’t noticed that the wastebasket was gone from his room as well, and when he’d knocked on the door to Akaashi’s dorm, desperate enough to ask him for help, Akaashi came to the door with the wastebasket still in hand, still half full of crumpled paper.
“Hello, Bokuto-san,” he said calmly, as if there wasn’t a random owl flitting around his room behind him. “Can I help you?”
Bokuto stared. “That’s-- there’s--”
Akaashi didn’t even look back. “Yes, I’m aware.”
He swallowed, stepped into the room. “I need to return the owl! And the basket!” He tried to grab at the trash bin but Akaashi knew him and kept it just out of reach. Bokuto ended up stumbling into his personal space.
“Is there something you’d like to keep private?” Akaashi asked. He was close, much too close. “After all, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” The smallest of smiles graced his face, and Bokuto needed to resort to something, anything.
He stepped even closer and hugged Akaashi tightly around the middle. He’d done it so many times before, and all of them had been giving, signs of affection.
This one was just to grab the wastebasket, and he felt horrible when it succeeded and he stumbled backward, clutching the basket to his chest.
“I’m-- I’m sorry, Akaashi, I’m-- I’ll just--”
A hand caught his wrist. “Bokuto-san.” The voice was gentle, soft, but held no room for argument. Bokuto stilled.
“I think we’ve skirted around this for long enough, don’t you?” Without waiting for an answer, Akaashi closed the distance between them.
It was short, much too short, and chaste, as if Akaashi had his own insecurities about the whole thing, but had given up on waiting. Bokuto blinked his eyes open as the other pulled back, still holding onto his wrist, tried to form words and failed.
“Akaashi,” he managed, staring.
“Yes, Bokuto-san?” There was a telltale pink dusting his cheeks.
Since he couldn’t form anything coherent about the situation, he said the first thing that came to mind. “We gotta return the owl or the professor will kill me.”
**********
Their favorite spot to hang out was a certain tree near the psychology building. It was quiet and somewhat secluded, a perfect spot to read or listen to music or just sit and talk. Now, as it neared sunset, shadows danced at the edges of the clearing and Kuroo had to squint to read the words on the page.
“We should probably head back soon,” Kenma murmured next to him.
Kuroo jolted for a second and had to look up at him. He’d been trying so hard to forget that the other boy was there, because it stirred uneasiness like a coil in his gut, and Kenma was generally quiet anyway. Now, as the sun flirted with the horizon, spilling the last of its golden rays across the earth, a few beams threaded their way through Kenma’s hair, lighting it as if from within, and he couldn’t tear his eyes away. It was only when Kenma looked up from his PSP that he blinked, and turned his head oh-so-casually back to his textbook.
A minute later, he looked back up, and those wide, entirely too perceptive eyes were looking back at him, as if Kuroo were a puzzle he was trying to solve, a level he was trying to beat.
“Something on my face?” he tried, lifting a corner of his mouth in a sort of half-smile.
“Yeah, actually.”
And suddenly Kenma was leaning in, already close and without an intention of stopping. Kuroo’s eyes widened as Kenma brushed his lips against his with just the barest of touches. It was soft and barely there, just enough and yet would never be enough. Kuroo was left wanting.
But Kenma. Kenma returned to his PSP. The only indication that anything had even happened was the rapid fluttering of lashes, in what seemed like disbelief.
Kuroo blinked. “That’s it?”
Kenma didn’t even react.
“That’s all I get?” he tried again.
“If you whine about it, you’re not getting more.”
That shut Kuroo up for the time being, but he managed to sneak another one as they walked back to the dorms, and eventually many more.
**********
It was Bokuto who spilled first when Kuroo and Tsukishima came back to the room.
“Guys, guess what guess what guess what?!” he nearly yelled as he bounded up to them.
“Yeah?” Kuroo asked, an aura of excitement buzzing around him as well, even though it wasn’t as pronounced.
“Akaashi kissed me!” he declared, as if he’d won an Oscar. “Are you proud of me?”
“I’m proud of Akaashi,” Tsukishima muttered, moving to sit in the desk chair. “But I can’t really harp on you because, ah, Yamaguchi kissed me.”
“Holy shit, they conspired or something,” Kuroo said, flopping on the bed. “Kenma kissed me.”
They all looked at each other in bewilderment.
Bokuto broke the silence. “Wait, so, if we all got together with our crushes at the same time, and they all made a move on us instead of the other way around, then who wins?”
“Does it matter anymore?” Kuroo asked.
No one argued with that.
BONUS (What happened with the cat):
He didn’t want to be here.
He didn’t want to be here, holding a squirming cat by the university pool on a Friday afternoon, an unspoken something hovering just behind his lips, meant for the person he’d been waiting for for the past half hour.
That someone was heaving himself up and out the edge of the water, chatting with a fellow swim team member as they went to go grab towels. He figured he had at least five more minutes to abort mission.
His legs betrayed him.
He found himself lurching unsteadily toward the edge of the pool, cat growing increasingly consternated in his arms, and his voice worked on its own, calling a name.
“Yamaguchi.”
The swimmer turned at the sound of his voice and oh god, he was still dripping wet and when had he had abs like that, not to mention the freckles that had always - no. He wouldn’t allow himself to go down that path.
“Hi, Tsukki!” Yamaguchi waved off his friend and turned his full attention to him, and that was when Tsukishima panicked.
He shoved the cat toward him and stumbled through whatever it was he was told to say, butchering it by saying “Cats have nine lives and I want them” instead of “If I had nine lives, I’d want to spend them all with you.”
Yamaguchi had not expected to have an armful of cat, however, but by the time he realized he was supposed to be holding it, the cat was already in the water, spraying the both of them in the process.
Tsukishima stared at it, flailing helplessly and drowning like his hopes and dreams, but Yamaguchi acted quickly, shoving his towel at him and diving in to rescue the cat.
By the time he’d resurfaced, Tsukki had recovered his wits. Barely.
“I’m… sorry,” he tried, ears burning in embarrassment as Yamaguchi dried himself for the second time. The cat was hissing at him, as if cussing him out. Tsukki didn’t blame it. He would’ve done the same.
“Don’t worry about it!” Yamaguchi smiled at him. “Although I am curious why you were trying to give me a cat.” He giggled briefly. “Tell me about it when I get out of the locker room, yeah?”
Tsukishima nodded mutely. But by the time Yamaguchi had come out of the locker room, he was long gone.
This is for you, @tetsukens, based on this post. I got all the strange asking out ideas from sparknotes, believe it or not. :)

Someone, send help
>>> http://archiveofourown.org/works/10298306
Kuroo is an intelligent college boy with lots of friends and one big problem. He has a crush.
Now here's the problem; his crush gave him chocolates on valentine's day. Not such a problem, maybe, but Tsukishima had ran off without explaining what he wanted from Kuroo. So now Kuroo knows his crush is requited, but he has no idea what his next step would be.
He knows the tradition of valentine's day is for men to return the gift of a woman. But Tsukishima is exactly a woman. So does the same still apply?
Also, Tsukishima may have grown up a little, but he's still the childish kid that hides his feelings by making everyone feel smaller than himself.
Ever since Kuroo and Tsukishima ended up in the same collage, Kuroo has managed to break that wall little by little. He got to see the real, insecure Tsukishima that lays beneath. And he fell hard for him. But he loves hanging out with the younger student, and so he never acted upon his feelings. He didn't think Tsukishima was waiting for relationship problems and coming out. Because, yes, Kuroo knew Tsukishima liked boys before the other confessed. It was just obvious, after they got closer and spend more time together.
They spend afternoons together, studying and not so much studying, until it got dark and someone had to go back.
They spend coffee dates together, though Kuroo knew they weren't exactly dates. He didn't mind so much.
They even spend some sleepovers together, after Kuroo had found out that Tsukishima had a soft spot for Kuroo's favorite show, and the hours had run late into night. Tsukishima also had a soft spot for Kuroo begging to not let him walk though the scary dark at night.
In all those minutes spend together, Kuroo noticed that Tsukishima started blushing if Kuroo gave him a compliment. He also noticed that Tsukishima had the habit to stare at hot guys walking by. Kuroo didn't know if Tsukishima noticed what he was doing, but Kuroo knew knew why he did it. He was admiring that booty. And Kuroo knew it would never be his booty that Tsukishima would look at.
He was fine with staying friends, really, he was okay with admiring Tsukishima from a friendship distance.
But then Tsukishima had to go and do something completely out of his nature. What was Kuroo supposed to do now? If he had knows Tsukishima was up for that, he'd have made a move ages ago. He is a romanticist like that, sadly.
But he needed a plan. Normally, Kuroo would have that plan in the blink of an eye. People didn't call him intelligent for no reason. But for some reason, this time it was different. He wanted to do it right for Tsukishima, Tsukishima deserved something nice.
So three days before White Day, when Kuroo finally gave up on coming up with thinking of the most ridiculous plan ever, he texted Yamaguchi.
You: Hey
You: I need your help
He put his phone away and tried to concentrate on his homework again.
Yamaguchi had been in his contacts since him and Tsukishima entered college, but Kuroo never texted him. He wondered if Yamaguchi even knew who he was, would he still have his number?
Would Yamaguchi snitch on him to Tsukishima? That would ruin the whole plan Kuroo didn't even have yet. He needed Tsukishima to be just as surprised as he was.
After an eternity had passed – maybe more like ten minutes, but who's counting? – Kuroo gave up on expecting an answer from Yamaguchi. He would figure out his own plan.
He was about to get up for a cup of much needed coffee, when his phone buzzed. It was in his hands in an instant, and he sat back down again as he opened the text.
Freckles: I was wondering when you'd text
What's that even supposed to mean?
You: Dont text in riddles plz
Freckles: Sorry
Freckles: I was wondering when you'd text about Tsukki and white day*
Was Kuroo allowed to call him a bastard now?
You: dont be mean
You: How do you even know
Freckles: I was the one who convinced him to do that in the first place
Freckles: You should be thanking me instead of calling me mean
That caught Kuroo off guard a bit. So it wasn't Tsukishima's own idea? Maybe that makes more sense, Kuroo thought. He already thought it was not like Tsukishima to do this.
He decided to keep Yamaguchi as a friend rather than an enemy. The kid can do shit Kuroo didn't hold for possible.
You: thanks, then
You: Now, can you help me decide what to do?
Freckles: You like him, yeah
You: yeah
Freckles: Then whats the problem
Freckles: Go buy him shit
You: right
You: okay
You: I will~
That didn't exactly turn out the way Kuroo wanted it to, but at least he knew how in the world Tsukishima would do what he did.
Best friends can be devilish, sometimes.
The next day, two days before White Day, he decided to call Akaashi. Maybe he'll have another perspective on his issues.
He was making a sandwich while his phone made the awful beeping sound of a dialing call in his ear. His headphones didn't make it any better, but he needed to eat. So he needed his hands. Sometimes you gotta make sacrifices.
“Hello,” Kuroo heard through the phone, when Akaashi finally picked up the phone.
“Hey there, mate,” Kuroo laughed.
“Kuroo.” Akaashi's voice was flat when he speaks. “Don't call me mate.”
“Then you, dear Akaashi, don't pick up the phone when you're having sex with bro.” Kuroo heard his voice sounds smug, but he couldn't help it.
“What? How..” Akaashi mumbled, and Kuroo heard some stumbling on the other end of the line.
“You're out of breath, mate. Can only mean one thing. Unless you decided to go for a run for the first time in ages.”
There was a silence for a few seconds, then Akaashi decided to keep up the act. “I went for a run.”
“Sure.” Kuroo laughed again, almost dropping his knife. “It's so fun messing with you.”
“What did you want,” Akaashi asked quickly.
“Right, I need your help with romance.” Kuroo shrugged, even though Akaashi couldn't see it.
“Kuroo, valentine's day was a month ago. You're a little late.”
“True, but something happened that I didn't tell you guys about.”
“What happened?” Akaashi asked seriously. “Are you in trouble?”
“No, but I feel like being in trouble would be more easily dealt with than this.” He took a deep breath before continuing. “Tsukishima gave me chocolates.”
“What!?” Kuroo heard in his ear. He cringed a little while Akaashi quickly explained to Bokuto what made him lose his shit.
Then he heard a muffled “ohoho!” from Bokuto, who was probably being gagged by Akaashi now.
It was so obvious who was in charge in their relationship, it amazed Kuroo every time. Bokuto was big and strong, and still he listened to everything Akaashi asked him to.
After a minute Akaashi got back on the line. “So, what did you need help with? It's almost White Day, right?”
“Yes, it is,” Kuroo started. “But White Day is a traditional thing for boys and girls and Tsukki and I are boys and boys. I don't know what would be appropriate.”
“Okay, yeah, I see were you're coming from.” Akaashi sounded serious and deep in thought. Kuroo was glad he found someone who took his problem serious. “I think you can still do the traditional stuff,” Akaashi then said. “I mean, Tsukishima went all out of his way to confess exactly on valentine's day. I don't think he would mind you sticking with the tradition.”
“Alright, I'll buy him something nice and cute. Cause, honestly, there's no way I'm gonna bake shit myself.”
Akaashi chuckled. “I don't think that would be a good idea.”
“Thanks, mate,” Kuroo joked. “I'll let you get back to fucking Brokuto.” After a measured pause, he added, “sorry, I mean your run.”
He heard Akaashi laugh as he gave Bokuto a kiss. “I think the mood is killed here, thanks to you.”
Kuroo would be offended, but he knew this probably wasn't their first time today. They could skip once.
Bokuto apparently thought differently, because he practically yelled “hey! Thats not fair!” just before Kuroo hung up the call.
After the call, Kuroo pondered about what to buy while he was eating his sandwich. He knew he had to buy white chocolate for Tsukishima, but he also knew that wasn't exactly the blond's favorite flavor. He's have to find something else to give with it.
So the day before White Day, he made his way to the city mall.
His plan to quickly find something didn't exactly go as planned though. Because, right in front of the candy store, he hears his name.
“Kuroo!”
Well shit. He'd recognize that voice everywhere.
He turns around and greets the most beautiful boy he has ever come across. “Hey, Tsukki.”
“What are you doing?” Tsukishima asks.
They have been ignoring what happened a month ago, even though Kuroo thought it was a little awkward at first. But when he noticed that Tsukishima was fine with just going on with their lives, he was a little relieved. It made it easier to figure out how to deal with the chocolates that were still laying on his desk.
“Just buying some snacks,” Kuroo says, while he gestured to the store.
But now that Tsukishima was there, it made his plan a little harder. He had to buy those presents, but he couldn't do that right in front of the other.
So while Tsukishima followed him inside, he took his phone out and texted his only hope.
You: buying shit, ran into him. help
He hoped his message was clear, but in the meantime, he had to keep a straight face. So he turned around to Tsukishima and pulled him in a headlock. “What does the ice queen as studysnack?”
Tsukishima grumbled something incoherent, and then his phone rang.
Kuroo – reluctantly – let go of him, and started snooping around the isle again.
“Hello,” he heard Tsukishima answer the call.
Tsukishima hummed a few times, and then Kuroo felt his hand on his arm. Kuroo turned around and raised his eyebrows. “Everything alright?” he asked, after seeing the worrying expression on the other's face.
“Yamaguchi urgently needs my help with something,” Tsukishima explained.
“Right,” Kuroo nodded. “Go be the knight in shining armor.”
Tsukishima looked like he wanted to say something else, but apparently he decided against it. Then he waived goodbye and turned around.
Freckles: You owe me one.
Kuroo smiled. He was more than okay with that.
You: Deal
He then ended up buying a bar of white chocolate, funny shaped cookies, and a cd of Tsukishima's taste for good measure.
He was quite pleased with himself.
The next day, bright and early, he texted Tsukishima to meet him in their usual hangout after classes. This way, he was sure Tsukishima wouldn't make any last minute plans.
It also made him a little nervous, though. What if Tsukishima knew exactly what he was planning? Maybe Yamaguchi had even told him. Would he do that?
In his classes, he couldn't really focus. He was sure the teachers noticed, but he was a hard-working student. He deserved a day of slacking-off.
When his last class finally ended, he rushed over to the cafe to get their favorite table near the window.
The barristers knew them by now, so he raised two fingers as to indicate he would meet with Tsukishima. The current guy behind the bar smiled and started making their usual drinks. It truly was a blessing to know the whole staff.
Then he sat down at the table and started fidgeting nervously with his earring. He knew Tsukishima was done the same time he was, so he must be on his way already.
Kuroo felt his heart beat faster the more he started thinking about what he was about to do. It hadn't really sank in yet, before. But now he realized he was actually about to confess to Tsukishima. And if everything went according to plan, he would finally be able to hold Tsukishima in a different way than just friends.
He couldn't wait.
“Hey, rooster head.” Tsukishima's greeting shook him out of his thoughts, and he shot a smile at the other.
“Hey there, glasses-boy,” he returned.
Tsukishima smiled as he sat down in front of Kuroo. “Why do we keep insulting each other?”
“You're the one who started it.” Kuroo shrugged his shoulders.
“Yeah, today. But we always do this.” Tsukishima smiled, and Kuroo felt like he couldn't be more lucky. The sight of Tsukishima's red lips smiling was the best, and even if today didn't turn out the way Kuroo wanted it to, he'd be lucky to stay friends with Tsukishima.
The waiter set down their drinks, pulling Kuroo out of the gaze he was giving Tsukishima.
“Alright, then let's stop with the insulting.” Kuroo said then, and he really tried to sounds serious, but he couldn't manage to keep it up for long. After a few seconds both him and Tsukishima started laughing again.
“Never mind what I said,” Tsukishima said. “There's no way I could stop making fun of your hair.”
“You hurt me, Tsukki.” Kuroo smiled. This was the most perfect mood he could wish for. It was now or never. He picked up his backpack from the seat next to him and grabbed a plastic bag from it. Then he set the plastic bag in between them and looked back at Tsukishima.
Tsukishima's cheeks had turned slightly red as he tried to peak inside the bag.
“What's this?” he asked, when Kuroo slapped away his hand.
Kuroo had to take a deep breath, collecting all the courage he could find in him. Then he took Tsukishima's hand.
“The reason I told you to meet up with me here.”
“So what's in it?” Tsukishima asked, sounding a little confused.
Kuroo took out the gifts he bought yesterday and lined them up in front of Tsukishima. “Exactly one month ago, you surprised me by giving me chocolates for valentine's day,” he started. “And when you didn't say anything when you gave them, I just went and assumed it was meant as a confession.” He laughed sheepishly, trying to gauge Tsukishima's reaction.
The other blushed slightly, and his hands were folded in front of him, fingers tangled.
“Was I right to do so?” Kuroo asked, and Tsukishima nodded slightly.
“I freaked out,” he explained. “I wanted to tell you, but I got scared, I guess.”
“That's fine.” Kuroo smiles again, and he moves the white chocolate closer to Tsukishima. “So, as a response to your confession, I want to accept your feelings.”
Kuroo didn't know how he was still able to talk, because his heart was beating like crazy. He was nervous and shy, but he was with Tsukishima, and that was the only reason he was able to go on.
“Please, be mine, Kei,” he added then. Tsukishima's eyes shot up to him, and the blush got washed away by a smile that covered his whole cheeks.
“Okay,” he said then, and Kuroo couldn't resist taking his hands. “So, that's the chocolate bar, but what are the other things for?”
“Well,” Kuroo said awkwardly. “It's tradition to triple the value of the gift, but there's no way your homemade chocolates can be one-upped, let alone three times. Besides,” he said, and he moved the cookies and cd closer. “I am terrible at baking, you wouldn't even like my attempt at it.”
Tsukishima laughed and picked up the cd. “I could imagine that.”
“Once again, Tsukki, you hurt me.” Kuroo whined, but there was no pressure behind the words.
Tsukishima just laughed some more. “Thank you,” he said then, mentioning to the other two gifts with his new cd.
They sat there for a while, drinking their coffee and steeling awkward glances at each other. Kuroo couldn't help but giggle. It was glorious to be with Tsukishima now. Especially seeing how Tsukishima was practically acting like a teenager too.
“You know,” Tsukishima said then. “I kind of expected something like this.”
Kuroo raised his eyebrow at that. “What do you mean?”
“When Yamaguchi called yesterday, he sounded upset. But when I actually got there, he looked like he was trying to come up with a story.” Tsukishima shrugged. “Made me think he needed me away from you.”
There went his surprise. “That fucker, this was supposed to catch you off guard like you did to me.”
Tsukishima chuckled. “Even if it wasn't for Yamaguchi, I would've expected at least something, you would either accept or decline my feelings today,” he explained
“True,” Kuroo uttered. “Then I guess I couldn't have done much more.”
“I really liked it, though.” Tsukishima told him, and it made Kuroo feel warm form inside.
“I'm glad,” he started. “'Cause I really like you.”
“I really like you too, boyfriend,” Tsukishima joked, putting the emphasis on the last word.
Then Kuroo started to just all out blush, but he didn't mind at all. He was Tsukishima's boyfriend and he could take him on dates and he could even have sleepovers without feeling guilty about longing for more than just the friendly cuddle he stole from Tsukishima at night.
