McDonald’s in France

We lined up for the McDonald inside of the Lourve. Here, people ordered on giant tablet and then got their receipts. They only came to the counter to pay and pick up their orders. 

I love how all the information are printed big on the containers. Price of a Big Mac Meal was 8.40 euros. 

Here is another McDonald’s, but in Maurane’s home town, which is an hour and a half away from Paris. The logo is a deep green because a few years ago, McD had a “going green” campaign all through out Europe.

Incredibly clean and well designed!

An outdoor playground for the kids. This McDonald’s is very family friendly. Maurane said the mayor of the city refused too let McD open in her town for three years until the company agreed to build a playground and turn it into a family friendly restaurant.

In July 2018 almost every currency in the Big Mac index, The Economist's lighthearted guide to currency valuation, had weakened against the dollar since the previous measurement was taken. Now they are even more undervalued. The Turkish lira seems especially weak. A year ago the lira looked 47% undervalued against the dollar. Today that figure has swelled to 64%. The change has been driven by shifts in exchange rates rather than changes in local prices. A Study on the Big Mac Index and ...

Believe it or not, price of a McDonald’s signature Big Mac can indicate how well a foreign currency is doing compare to the US Dollar. Sounds strange doesn’t it?! But the Big Mac Index is actually a study done by The Economist starting from 1986. This study is based on the Purchasing Power Parity and currency exchange rate. Click here to learn more about it! As an Economics major, I am intrigued with this idea.I find it hard to believe price of such a small thing can reflect different countries’ economies. Fortunately, W&J granted me another Magellan scholarship so I can travel to several countries and put everything that I have learned in school to test! The cities that I have visited are Paris (France), Berlin (Germany), Copenhagen (Denmark), Stockholm (Sweden), and Ho Chi Minh (Vietnam) This Magellan project will focus mainly on the Big Mac Index of course. But it is also much more than that. There is a surprise factor: this itinerary is inspired by a book called “Thế Giới Nhỏ Xinh Như Bàn Tay Con Gái” (temporary translation: The World is Pretty and Small like a Girl’s Hand) by Travelling Kat. Every day, a new page of the book comes to life as I step my foot on places that she talks about in the book. Toward the end of this trip I actually get the chance to meet the author herself.
