The Liberal government is looking to spur the construction of new rental stock and increase competition in industries like Canada’s heavily concentrated grocery sector as part of a new bill aimed at improving affordability for Canadians facing a cost of living crisis.

Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland tabled Bill C-56, the Affordable Housing and Groceries Act, in the House of Commons on Thursday.

It includes two announcements previously signalled by Justin Trudeau’s government: giving a rebate for GST paid on the construction of new purpose-built rentals and reforms to the country’s competition laws aimed at giving more teeth to the federal watchdog.

Government officials briefed the media on the details of the bill on Thursday.

I can’t say much to make it better, I know, but I want you to know that you DO have people who care about you. And y’know what? I know we don’t know each other, but I care. 

I don’t know how comforting this will be, but. Listen, I’m 28. It’s not nearly the same experience or circumstances, I know, but I was bullied a lot in school too. And nowadays, things that bothered me back then? I don’t even think about them. I’ve gone to the reunions and such (well not this year, but y’know what I mean...) and I’ve had a great time with people who were shitty to me.

However! It’s not on you to be nice to them. You don’t owe them kindness if they don’t show you it, especially considering what you’re going through. But just know when you get out of school, problems like bullying will most likely fade away from your memory. And you won’t have to interact with those people ever again if you don’t want to.

Crossland CC1 SH error thermal runaway temp fix My Crossland CC1 espresso maker has been a problem child from the very beginning. The steam boiler can't regulate its temperature and it runs away, causing SH errors (steam too hot), and burning up the thermal fuse (216°C / 420°F ), which cuts the power to the steam boiler, resulting in E2 errors (steam boiler not heated up within 3 minutes).The first time I emailed Seattle Coffee Gear and BillC about this issue, Bill sent me a new thermal fuse (Thanks, Bill!). I replaced it, the machine chugged along for a couple more months and then burned the fuse again. By that time, Seattle Coffee Gear told me the machine was out of warranty, I would have to pay an arm and a leg for their service tech to even look at it, and it would take a few months.Also, BillC completely stopped responding to any emails or calls. Apparently this is a one-man company, he's doing the best he can, whatever. Don't expect to get any customer service whatsoever with this machine. Don't buy this machine.But what if you already own a CC1 and it's your only espresso machine and you want to continue to make hot lattes? What if you don't want to pay hundreds of dollars to ship the machine to Seattle and be without espresso for a few months? Well then, you're on your own.Replacing the thermal fuse is pretty easy. This thread goes into detail about it. I replaced the fuse 5 times so far. But this time is different. Now, when I turn it on, the steam boiler runs at 100% power and never shuts off. It will immediately burn the thermal fuse unless I either turn on the water or cut the power. I checked the resistance of the temperature sensor: ~100 k-ohm at room temperature, and lower resistance when the boiler heats up. Seems to be in-spec for what I assume is a 100k thermistor. The controller seems to be receiving a valid temperature reading, but it is not cutting the power to the steam boiler for whatever reason, causing thermal runaway. Maybe some component on the control board has failed. SCG would probably replace the entire board (if parts are even available for this thing anymore).But I want my latte right now. It makes espresso just fine. No issues with the coffee boiler, just the steam. So I came up with a temporary fix. I took the power switch out of an old printer and spliced it in to the power connection to the steam boiler. That way, when I turn on the main power to the machine, I at least have a crude way of controlling the steamer temperature. As you can see in the picture, I am using a meat thermometer to monitor the temperature of the steam boiler. When I flip the switch, the temp starts rising rapidly. At 380°F the front display throws an SH error, and at 420°F the thermal fuse burns up. So when I see 300°F I flip the switch to off and open the steam valve.It's jury-rigged as all get-out, but it kinda works, and I'm enjoying my first warm latte in several weeks. hi, all.. i know that a lot of our focus is on the BlackLivesMatter movement atm (which is wonderful and should’ve happened a long time ago), and i hate to distract you from that, but there’s something horrible happening in my country, the Philippines (yes, the one being lead by the so-called Filipino version of Donald Trump), right now.

our national government has passed a bill that’ll essentially take away our constitutional rights to freedom of speech and fair trial. it’s called the Anti-Terrorism Bill, but we’ve dubbed it Terror Bill. here’s a summary of what it entails:

if you want to read the actual bill in its entirety, here’s a link to the official Senate of the Philippines website, where you can download a pdf copy. i’d like you to keep in mind the political climate in our country, though, and just how rampant corruption and police brutality are here.

it has already been passed by the Senate; all it needs is the House of Representatives’ approval, and it will be enforced. if you want to help stop this from happening, here are a few ways:

sign and share this petition. we’re so close to 300,000 signatures!!!

send e-mails to the Office of the President and the Senate. there’s an e-mail protest currently going on. i have qualms about copy-pasting the message, but ultimately, this method is a lot more effective than petitions:

The Spurs boss has publically slammed Ndombele on more than one occasion whilst it’s claimed that La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are courting his services despite only joining in the summer.

He’s a player that has divided opinion all season amongst the fanbase and this footage has only compounded that further.

The 23-year-old has averaged just 51 minutes per appearances this season and has featured in 27 matches, contributing to a total of six goals, per Transfermarkt.

His lack of regular game time due to his fitness is predominantly the reason for any negative comments against him, but going by the video, it’s clear to see there is a superb player in him somewhere.

1. You have nothing to apologize for <3 I read a great piece of advice somewhere (probably here lol) that when you’re about to say sorry, try saying thank you instead. I think it’s very helpful—rather than reinforcing that I feel bad, I’m sending positivity to others, and that does tend to bounce back.

Gonna put the rest behind a cut since it’s getting a bit long :)

2. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. My usual suggestions for dealing with this sort of thing are a) checking out captainawkward.com (an excellent advice blog for awkward and worse situations) and b) therapy* (which can be less accessible, but if you’re a student it might be more so depending on your age).

 Captain Awkward doesn’t an answer that exactly lines up with what you’re going through, but there are many answers about setting boundaries, dealing with living with difficult/abusive people, etc. If you want, I can find a few and put a shortlist together tomorrow.

I suggest therapy here because having a “team you,” as Captain Awkward puts it, is the goal in life. Team You consists of people who have YOUR back. And a therapist is a great addition to Team You: they’re professionals whose job is to be there for you and help you get through difficult times.

Again, I’m going to suggest getting in touch with your chemo doctor—they/their office might know some therapists who are a) in-network (depending where you live, if that’s a thing! I’m in the USA so it definitely is) and b) used to working with people going through chemo. Your school might also have resources, i.e. a social worker or something similar.

You haven’t mentioned parents, but depending on how they are, you could a) ask them to help you get a therapist to deal with all the shit going on in your life (!!!!), b) talk to your chemo doctor in private, tell them you need a therapist, and ask him to help get your parents on board, or c) something in between.

3. Suggestion: ‘Bitch’ isn’t a great word to use—there’s an ugly gender component to it via-a-vis how it’s used towards women. Try some gender-neutral insults like “asshole,” “jerk,” or “poisonous bunch-back’d toad” (Richard III, Act 1, Scene 3) instead :-)

I do need to go to bed now, but I’m on my blog many times a day, so feel free to get back in touch :-) I’m rooting for you, friend.

* Re: therapy: Not all therapists are created equal. Finding someone that you trust and work well with can be hard. I’ve been very lucky in that department, but I know that’s not the case for everyone. But it’s so worth it, for everyone.
