just woke up in a cold sweat because i think i’ve realized exactly what all the fucking religious symbolism is actually pointing out and like hoooooly shit. holy shit.
the fact that bison wears a jesus shirt in his fantasies of killing kant has been nagging me since the moment i realized it and i think i’ve realized why it is - and the reason for all of the things pointing towards and symbolizing bison as jesus.
it’s because that’s how bison views himself. not as actually jesus and the second coming, no, but he views himself as righteous, as a reckoning for all these people that they kill. he believes their mother when he says they only kill bad people, and that’s why he gets so much enjoyment out of it, why he involves himself far more in it than fadel, who always detaches himself. it’s why he delights in the idea of killing kant now, fantasizes about it, because he thinks that’s what’s right. kant betrayed him, and he’s a good person. he’s righteous. so that means kant deserves to die for it.
and that’s why kant is judas the betrayer AND john the beloved. because when bison knows it’s coming and turns a blind eye, he views himself the same way as jesus turning a blind eye to judas’s betrayal. and he’s the one the makes kant into john the beloved finding the tomb empty first because he hides from him (notably after kant had confessed to not wanting to lie to bison anymore)!
bison views himself as righteous. as jesus.
but he’s not. because jesus would never take joy in killing anyone. jesus would never have fun with it, in the same way bison does. and even if he did, jesus wouldn’t want to stop to date.
but you know who doesn’t take joy in any of it? who detaches himself from it? who seems, in the very least, suspicious of their mother?
you know who’s birthday is on christmas?
fadel. and if fadel is jesus… then bison can’t be. actually, i think that might make bison far closer to judas the betrayer. and that’s just awfully poetic, isn’t it? because didn’t judas think he was doing the right thing, too, when he sold jesus out? when he took money in exchange for telling the soldiers which one jesus was? just like bison thought he was doing the right thing when he told kant to get fadel off his back. just like he exchanged his brother for a lover and took them both down in the process.

Bison's name is Aechitpol Phanlert, so we should call him Bison Aechitpol or Bison Phanlert?
According to the plane tickets, his first name is Aechitpol and his surname is Phanlert. So it would technically be “Bison” Aechitpol Phanlert. Usually in fandom we shorten names to nickname + first name, so Bison Aechitpol.
More interesting to me though is that Kant apparently isn’t a nickname. It’s his actual first name. It’s rare for Thai people to go by their actual names. Everyone always teases Phuwin because he doesn’t have a nickname. He’s just Phuwin Phuwin. So Kant is Kant Kant 😂

you know, i have reason to believe that bison is not as naive about kant as we’re being led to believe right now.
in neither 10 things or taming of the shrew is bianca ever unaware of lucentio/cameron’s intentions and motivation. in 10 things, cameron is never pretending to be anyone else to begin with and is very open about the fact that he’s interested in her and it’s bianca that uses and manipulates him. whereas in taming, lucentio disguises himself as a tutor for bianca so that way he can woo her without her father knowing, but even still he tells her immediately in their first lesson who he is and what his intentions are. even with that, though, she still has a line about not knowing or trusting him.
in the heart killers, kant isn’t being forward about part of the reason he wants to get close to bison, and we’re sort of being led to believe that bison is taking kant at face value about wanting to be with him. however, immediately when kant walks into the burger shop, bison is suspicious. yes, he drops that rather quickly, but if the ost is anything to go by, maybe he’s just playing along.
which kind of brings me to the main evidence i have at this point - the lyrics of the ost very bluntly lays out the fact that the singer (bison) knows their love interest (kant) is up to something but that he’s willing to play along while continuing to question their motives the whole time. plus, we already know bison is perfectly capable of acting sweet and trusting when he’s actually not - we see that in the first five minutes.
additionally, i was thinking about kant’s “if i be waspish, best beware my sting” tattoo, which is a direct line from taming that katherine says. out of context it obviously foreshadows that bison needs to be careful of him, but in context, petruchio replies with “my remedy is then to pluck it out.” aka, he is aware she might sting but he’ll pull out the stinger entirely. if we look at that in parallel to kant and bison, it implies that bison again may likely be aware of kant’s true nature and his goal is subdue him in some way - to tame him, despite them not being based on those characters.
honestly i don’t think the betrayal and broken trust of it all is gonna be as big of a reveal as we may be thinking - i think bison already knows kant isn’t being 100% truthful and will probably figure it out himself what he’s hiding somewhere along the way

i just think it’s really interesting (re: Not a Coincidence) that the second that bison actually starts to let kant in is when his facade drops and he becomes very, very threatening. now you can argue bison was never putting up a facade, because he was questioning kant the whole time, but it’s clear he was putting up distance and using his cuteness and charm to his advantage when it came to the situation. because now he’s being far more overt with his “if you fuck with me, i’ll kill you” schtick. like he talked about it before, but it would have been easier for someone didn’t know he was an assassin to brush it off - now it’s very obvious he MEANS it when he says that. and like yes, kant is also being so incredibly fucking obvious so of course bison is even more suspicious, but again, i don’t think it’s a coincidence that this is happening after bison shared a real and vulnerable piece of himself by telling kant about and engaging with kant in his bdsm interest. i think it’s very much a protective measure because again, he KNOWS something is up with kant and yet he can’t stop the fact that he’s falling for him - so he’s telling kant outright if i find out you’re up to something, it’s not gonna be good for you. it’s like he’s saying “i’m giving you my heart against my better judgement - don’t you dare break it”

see my thing with the “the pin is a bug/tracker” theory is that while yes, i think it’s entirely possible bison would put a bug somewhere to spy on kant cause obviously he doesn’t trust that motherfucker, having the pin be the bug or tracker just feels… kind of dumb? like not in a “you’re dumb if you think that’s what it is” way but in “bison is too smart to put a tracker or bug on something he doesn’t know for sure is gonna do what he wants.”
cause like the thing about the pin is that kant can take it off and put it on and leave it wherever he wants. bison has no control over what kant does with it after he gives it to him, nor can he accurately predict what kant is gonna do with it. especially if he’s doing it under the assumption kant has no actual investment in the relationship for whatever reason, because then why would kant wear the pin anywhere but to see bison? and how would bison be able to know where he’d keep it elsewhere? there are just far too many factors for that to be a feasible thing i think bison would have done.
planting a bug in kant’s apartment, however, that i absolutely think he would and did definitely do. i’ve already said this but i’m like 99% sure he hid one in the tattoo parlor and that’s why he showed up just after james at the end - cause he heard what was going on and was trying to catch kant in a lie

bison’s daddy issues are crazy cause what do you mean you fell in love with someone who is exactly like your older brother, aka the only father figure you’ve really had, and then proceeded to (presumably) dress him in your actual father’s clothing during your honeymoon torture beach vacation. and then you ACTUALLY called him daddy. get out of here

for a while now, i've been trying to figure out why the religious symbolism in thk feels so one sided, so to speak. like, if you've read any of my (or lauren's) analysis posts about the religious imagery, you'll notice that it all ties back to bison in one way or another. even the use of lilly as lilith, mother of demons and captain christ being the figure for the good side can tie back to bison by way of bison being one of the "demons" and kant specifically getting close to bison in order to help christ - christ is even often plastered on bison's back through his jesus shirts in way of showing how ever-present christ is in their relationship.
at first, i thought that it was because bison is, for the most part, the jesus figure of the story. he wears the shirts, he has crosses in his room, he "dies" and his beloved finds the empty tomb, kant is essentially baptized in order to redeem himself for bison. if bison is jesus, then of course the religious elements center around him for the most part. however, it just never sat right with me that fadel and style seemed to have so little to do with any of it and fadel's instances were only ever in line with bison.
however, i think this post that lauren @sunsetsover made pointing out all the religious figures in bison's parents's house kind of explains it all. the religious aspect of the story revolves around bison not because he's the jesus, but because it's essentially his motif. it ties back to him because he's the one sewing the seeds of it, essentially.
bison views himself as jesus, and makes kant into judas the betrayer AND john the beloved. but he also betrays fadel, making himself judas the betrayer and fadel (the one born on christmas) into jesus. he also makes himself into lucifer by being lilly's "favorite" and going against what she wants, by being the one to bring down their operation by getting involved with kant. even with christ, he's the one wearing the jesus shirts that signify the way christ hangs over him and kant.
basically, the reason the religious symbolism exists in the show in the first place is because of bison's own interest in christianity/judaism - it's a direct reference to bison and the way he views things.

also i will say, with bison being the “katherine” of this episode (because as i’ve said a hundred times they’re all katherine and bison was filling that role, see my webweave etc), it makes complete fucking sense that he was getting misunderstood left and right. being seen as irrational and crazy while actually being pretty meticulous and thinking everything out etc. very katherine of him.
