if I had a dollar for every time i shipped a gay enemies-to-lovers couple who were students studying in the same field of expertise and one of them put on a tough persona to cover up their insecurity, had an explosive temper, was insanely obsessive over the other as a rival, constantly competing for the same goals and was at first extremely mean, rude and demeaning to them but over time grudgingly began to acknowledge the other's strengths, and the other half of the couple was the cheerful, somewhat naïve main character who tried multiple times to make friends with them but was rejected, and their character arcs revolved around them learning to work together as a unit and becoming unspoken friends, never confirmed in canon but supported by a significant portion of the fanbase, I'd have two dollars, but it's weird that it happened twice

cant stop thinking about bkdk soulmate red string of fate AU situation but people can reject their soulmates by cutting the string, which katsuki does around middle school time during a period of him being particularly full of rage, so they’re both walking around with unconnected strings tied around their fingers. izuku doesn’t want to let go but he doesn’t know if it can ever be fixed. 

but then, after their fights, after the war, after realizing that they would die for each other, when they finally have that talk, katsuki is able to fix the mistake he made. he ties the strings back together. 

now they’re soulmates with a knot in the middle of their string, and while at first katsuki can’t look at it without guilt, they both learn not only not to mind it, but to look on it with appreciation. because it shows they aren’t like everyone else, things weren’t easy or simple or perfectly fitting between them, but they still made it through. they worked for it, which makes it so much more meaningful than a perfect love story. they may have been thrown together by fate, but they chose to stay together.
