Clark Terry & Bob Brookmeyer โ€“ Previously Unreleased Recordings
This obscure LP released in 1973 reveals previously unknown performances from the Clark Terry-Bob Brookmeyer quintet, a very likable unit of the period. Terryโ€™s flugelhorn and Brookmeyerโ€™s valve trombone blended together very well, they both had hard-swinging but witty styles, and their ensemble work was frequently exciting. With the fine support of pianist Eddie Costa (in one of his last sessions), bassist Joe Benjamin, and drummer Osie Johnson, Terry and Brookmeyer perform two originals, โ€œThings Ainโ€™t What They Used to Beโ€ and โ€œStolen Momentsโ€; the four renditions clock in between eight-and-a-half and 12 minutes. Excellent music (Scott Yanow/AllMusic).
Bass โ€“ Joe Benjamin Drums โ€“ Osie Johnson Piano โ€“ Eddie Costa Trombone [Valve] โ€“ Bob Brookmeyer Trumpet, Flugelhorn โ€“ Clark Terry
