you’re the nicest person i’ll ever meet, probably. with an undying passion to protect those who can’t protect themselves, you’re energetic and bubbly to a fault. it’s cute, watching you run around trying to tie up loose ends. i feel bad for you — out of everyone you know, you probably have some of the deepest trauma, more than anyone’s aware of. this isn’t something that you want attention for at all, and you’d really just rather forget it exists at all… even then, it seems like you can never escape it. i wish you a pleasant rest of your life, full of rippling sunsets and free of prying eyes.

Sometimes I think about how I really don't enjoy Deltrarune despite it still being a good game. So I try to watch some content of it and I enjoy it at first, then I remember...

Largely a reason I don't like Deltrarune comes from a bad fandom interaction I had literally night one the game released. I had gotten to Jevil, but didn't understand how to spare him, and there was no walk-through yet because again, it was Day 1. So went to a discord server I was active in at the time to ask for help since I knew people there had finished the game already. I told them I was having trouble on the Jevil fight and asked for help. I explained I got all 3 keys, etc, and multiple people just fucking... told me I was confused and making things up??? Literally people unintentionally gaslighting me because they were too stupid to find Jevil on their first play-through, and instead of saying anything normal like, "I don't know who that is" or "sorry I haven't gotten there yet/haven't done that yet!" everyone's first interaction was to tell me the Jevil fight wasn't real. Okay. Sucks that one bad fandom interaction can turn an entire game sour for me.

It started innocent. SAM MONROE wanted to complete Vinnie’s daily outside time; letting him feel the new textures, maybe find another friend. So ever since theme park was laid out in the area, Sam decided he will indeed go there one day. One day turned into today.

By the time they got to the place, vinnie was gasping at everything; the balloons, the kids who got their faces painted by the too-sweet-looking lady. Soon enough, Sam had been dragged into the giant, overly bright, air-puffed bouncy castle with a little puffy hand holding his way bigger one, and with a look in his toddler's eyes that said «you’re coming in here and you’re gonna love it». Sam looked like he didn't have any dignity left.

Vinnie on the other hand quickly found himself in this new environment. Wobbling around and falling on his butt, he let out the most giggly giggles to ever exist. Sam sat there at first, just watching, already regretting being in long dark jeans; the heat was no joke.

Then Vinnie grabbed his hand and went, “JUMP!” with that toothy, breathy little lisp.

So Sam did. Although he just gave a light bounce, but it was enough to make Vinnie squeal.

Sam smiled a little, a bold feeling crossing his chest. He bounced again—harder this time.

Big mistake. Because Vinnie, his little body weightless and floppy, shot up like a chubby little marshmallow...and for one horrifying second, Sam saw his entire life flash before his eyes.

Sam's soul left his body.

Vinnie flopped back down with a boof, little belly and limbs sprawled like a stunned bug.

Sam lunged. “OH MY GOD—ARE YOU—”

But before he could even finish, Vinnie let out the loudest, happiest laugh of his entire baby life. Like cackling. Pure delight. His little hands slapped the squishy floor as he tried to sit up, going, “'Gen! 'Gen, Thammy!”

Sam was already pale. “No. Nope. Never again. You almost went to heaven, bro.”

Vinnie just let out a little grunt before standing up, and wobbled up, clinging to Sam’s arm with flushed cheeks and sparkly eyes. Sam sighed, gave one tiny, careful bounce this time—barely enough to jiggle—and Vinnie still giggled like he was on the world's greatest ride.

Sam? He was emotionally fried. His brain saw all the scenarios of what could happen; vinnie becoming immobile, you getting absolutely mad at Sam (well, not like he wouldn't too)..

“Yeah, you’re never telling your mom about this,” he muttered under his breath.

Chapter 8 of Rhythms is now on Ao3, and I don't want to spoil chapter 9 before Sunday, so here is something different! From my TK POV 4x12 coda that I'm planning to share next week!

It was the most terrifying day of my life, when you were born.”

“Thanks,” TK laughs. “Most kids get to hear that their arrival was the best, but whatever.”

“I’ll say this,” Owen begins, looking right into TK’s eyes. “It was really good to meet you. But it was terrifying. We got you home. It was still terrifying. Then time passed and you got a bit bigger and you had these bright eyes that you’d open so wide. And you’d really look around.” Owen grins tearfully. “I’d come home from work and you’d smile at me all toothless.”

“Stop.”

“That was the best,” Owen sniffs and takes a comforting bite from a whole handful of French fries. “And then you were a teenager and I wasn’t really there. Not enough.”

“You were when I came out, though. You were amazing.”

“That was another best-ever day,” Owen says.

It happened after school on a rainy March Monday - a day otherwise ordinary and inconsequential. But it had meant everything to say the words out loud and receive a huge hug in reply. They relaxed on the couch together with takeout afterwards, talking and being pals.

TK feels a twinge of nostalgia for the moment, even though they’re more-or-less doing the same thing now with four buckets of fried chicken between them.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen you so excited,” TK laughs, looking down at his feet. “You were like Buttercup when we tell him he’s going for a W-A-L-K.”

Buttercup boofs. He knows what that means. He’s not an idiot.

“Buttercup, down!” Owen says as Buttercup starts to heave himself up. “We have to just say W now,” Owen whispers to TK, “He’s figured it out.”

“Really?” TK laughs. This is Buttercup’s equivalent of learning to turn doorhandles like the velociraptors in Jurassic Park.

“Yes, so zip it,” Owen tells him, and returns to the subject at hand. “The day you came out to me is one of my favorite memories.”

“That’s so nice,” TK says softly. There can’t be too many people who hear that from their dad.

“I was happy that you could be yourself. I was happy you felt like you could come out to me when you were so young.”

“Me too.” TK takes a deep, shaky breath, thinking back on it. He was fourteen when he came out to his parents just a day apart, and the way they embraced him ended up closing the distance between all of them.
