Brb establishing this as fantasy lore...
But also this implies that chickens are not directly hatched from eggs, or are a sentient flower of the egg plant?
Or the egg plant is separate and just happens to make fruit with the texture of eggs adjacent to chickens
Or chickens are a form of lesser cursed dragon like how they're vaguely dinosauric
Lots of possibilities are bespoke by the egg plantations
i think it says a lot about society that they can't even keep the olympics stocked with eggs. they may also have to cancel swimming events in the seine pending further bacterial testing, but that says more about paris specifically. it does say a lot about society that the rivers in portland and sao paulo are also polluted but these concerns are very unique, individual, localized, and difficult to predict and remediate, in a way that not planning to have enough eggs for the olympics simply isn't. i can sympathize with the unfortunately disgusting and messy realities of water quality in a large city but i find it hard to even conceptualize that nobody in france said "ah les jeux olympiques arrivent, il est temps de planter plus de poulets"

hilarious that im simultaneously in one of the easiest classes of my entire academic career (algebra and elementary functions) and also the hardest (general botany). and theyre back to back.
i sit down and take notes for an hour straight and frantically try to remember cell functions and plant life cycles and taxa and soooo many new words every single lecture
and then i turn around and stare blankly at a wall as the professor spends 30 minutes explaining interval notation

Elios proposed to Terra with 2 dozen red roses under the wisteria tree where he had first told her that he loved her as children. Even though he was too nervous to say anything, she knew what he was trying to convey through the flowers. She always did.
24 roses - I am yours.

I can see Edwina and Marina being friends, not only due to both of them being heavily scrutinized and talked about by the Ton after their respective failed seasons and tarnished reputations but also because I feel like both would listen to one another. Whether that be about their hobbies, or their insecurities, just without the idea of expectations always being there. I think it would be nice for Marina to have a friend who, definitely won't betray her, but could also help with her mental health when things become too much. For Edwina, I think it would be nice to have someone be honest and truthful with her, even when the truth itself could come with a lot of baggage, something that I see Marina willing to do especially with her character post season two. I just want them to be bestie, because they both deserve better!

Epidendrum secundum is a (preferably) terrestrial growing orchid with a wide distribution throughout the Neotropics, Cusco, Southeastern Peru, and Brazil
It is generally found in more montane environments where it can get a bit cooler, but has also been found growing near sea-level and by disturbed roadsides!
E. Secundum is an extremely variable species of orchid and is generally referred to as a complex, being that certain individuals vary at a rank more deserving of a separate species entirely!!
Chromosome numbers may vary dramatically for each individual in the complex, and a lilac-flowered individual from Bolivia could be found to have 2n = 28; while a lilac-flowered individual from San Antônio do Itambé in Brazil, could be found to have 2n = 52 (:
It's flowers range from shades of lilac, orange, red, white, and yellow
EXTRA FUN FACT:
Its Linnaean binomial "Epidendrum secundum", is entirely inappropriate and wrong in describing the species
The flowers are not secund, meaning not all on one side of the inflorescence. Nor is it lop-sided, or something that grows "upon a tree"
Along with that, every common name deriving from this binomial is also wrong
Hope you think this is interesting and enjoyable!! :D

If your life is horrible and you need a new source of meaning and direction.... Do NOT find religion. Learn to identify plants.

So I’ve just learned that cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, collards, kale, and more are the same species of plant: brassica oleracea
Like on the one hand: what the fuck. Never knew cultivars were so fucking wild
On the other hand: I understand more why I like none of these vegetables. They’re the same thing. (I know it’s more complicated than that I’m just…wow)

I have some very specific advice if you are applying to research positions through USA Jobs at all, because it is CRUCIAL for those to understand you're going through a hiring manager NOT the scientists performing the research. But these tips also help in general for academia/elsewhere. They got me through the hiring gauntlet for botany based jobs with the USGS multiple times, as well as into grad school.
Decided to reblog with images here so anyone can use these :) The cover letter info I got from an old supervisor, the resume tips/USA jobs cheat sheet I wrote myself for a resume workshop I did for people in my grad school lab who haven't had as much work experience as I have.

these plant websites need to distinguish between prairie full sun and on-the-edge-of-woods full sun, bc there's a huge difference in what both can tolerate.
