The Recipe – Wood-Fire-Cooked Breakfast Hash

There’s something magical about cooking over a wood fire. The crackling flames, the earthy aroma, and the warmth—they transform a simple meal into an experience. This morning, I embraced the rustic charm of the outdoors and whipped up a hearty Wood-Fire-Cooked Breakfast Hash that will make any campfire lover swoon.

Here’s how it came together:

🌲 Ingredients:

4-5 medium potatoes, diced

1 onion, chopped

1 bell pepper (any color), diced

2 cloves of garlic, minced

A handful of your favorite protein (bacon, sausage, or even tofu for a plant-based twist!)

4 eggs

Olive oil or butter

Salt, pepper, and a pinch of smoked paprika

🔥 The Process:

Start your wood fire early so it has time to burn down to a bed of hot, glowing embers—this is where the magic happens.

Heat a cast-iron skillet over the fire, adding a drizzle of olive oil or a generous pat of butter.

Repost @dianemorrisey Todays breakfast came about by a simple food inventory that I did last night before bed. I had some assorted veggies, some linguica sausage and a bag of frozen pierogis. And of course, eggs... I always have eggs. And those random ingredients turned into this mornings Pierogi Breakfast Hash with Fried Eggs. Don’t be afraid to think out of the box. You’d be amazed at what you can create with some basic pantry/freezer items!👌 : : : : : Pierogi Veggie Hash with Linguica and Fried Eggs : : : : 1 bag of frozen Pierogis 2 tbsp of olive oil 1/2 cup diced linguica 1 small onion chopped 2 garlic cloves chopped 1 red bell pepper chopped 1 zucchini chopped Salt and pepper to taste 1/2 tsp of smoked paprika 1/4 tsp cayenne Chopped parsley or scallions * Bring a pot of water to a boil and cook pierogis for 3 minutes. Drain and set aside on a rack in one layer. In a skillet, cook the linguica until beginning to crisp up and render some fat. Add in the onions and garlic and cook for 1 minute. Add the red pepper, zucchini and spices and cook for another 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Add in the perogies and cook together for another few minutes.
