I just got frustrated that my specialized trade job I've been in for a decade is leaving me barely making ends meet and no means to move up or earn more due to the nature of the trade, and some of these cs owners are making bank while doing the bare minimum. Shit hurts sometimes and this economy sucks.

Director's cut of Cat!Slash (or if my fangirling is getting tedious, story of your choice) Side note, I think about this story all the time and keep coming back to Axl. With NuGuns and his various hangers on, I see him as a crazy cat!person person. Yes this does mean I've thought about Buckethead as a Cat!boy and have also thought about him meeting Slash and it wasn't pretty. Thank you so much for humoring me!

Normally my aus are inspired by bits I read in Slash or Duff’s books or photos I see or something along those lines… but this one pretty much entirely came from the thought “hey wouldn’t Slash be cute as fuck with cat ears?” That and I have a thing for weird relationship dynamics in fic. Boyfriend is also your pet? Hell yeah. The extra challenge of making that cute and not creepy just makes it more fun.

Worldbuilding is also fun for me, I try not to be too strict about it but I like to have some kind of explanation for how this universe works. I can get caught up in details sometimes tho: at one point I was thinking, okay if a panther is just a melanistic leopard or jaguar, then which one is Slash? But then I said fuck it that’s really not that important and probably not applicable since he’s not literally a cat anyway.

Some characterization thoughts: Slash is quite introverted, he’s usually very sweet but other times he can be, uh, catty. He doesn’t trust easily, he likes to tease Duff, and he can be a bit mischievous. Usually he can be seen attached to Duff at the hip, and either ignoring everyone else entirely or staring at them judgingly. Duff doesn’t ever really get over how lucky he feels that he found Slash. He’s got a best friend and a soulmate and a loyal pet all in one and he doesn’t take that for granted. Slash feels about the same, he trusts Duff more than anyone else and he’s not shy about showing his affection.

All the parts that I have planned for this universe are set in the 80s, but I do have some thoughts on how things might go after that: While Axl is busy becoming a crazy cat!person person (I fucking love that, though I’m not sure how I feel about Bucketcat… please please tell me how you think that meeting goes), Duff and Slash are still together, working on projects both separately and together. I like to think that they were both less fucked up on drugs in this universe, since there’s definitely something like CPS but for cats that exists and would have separated them in a heartbeat if things got too bad (or, if you’re into angst, that’s exactly what happens and it’s years before they’re both cleaned up enough to be together again! But I think I like this better as a fluff au…). I’m also toying with the idea that Duff still gets married eventually and the three of them are in a happy man-and-wife-and-cat arrangement, but I don’t think I’ll actually write that part out.

Finally, a tiny teaser for part 3:

“What was that about?” Duff asks Slash as they weave through parked Cadillacs and Corvettes until they reach Duff’s old pickup truck.  “How do you know David Geffen?“

NGL im broke af and my job is mentally and physically killing me. Rent is too damn high and food is too expensive. If I could make money off a species that's just a cat with a bucket on its head, and get people paying for the right to make a bucketcat, I would. I wish i could make even a fraction of what some of these CS owners made. I'd try to be a good cs owner, but damn I'd be selling on base designs for $300 if I could, and I'd take all the whales money to get some damn food on my table.

(1/2) (I was eating when I read "Bucketcat" and it kinda went everywhere lmao) BH was def a stray, and already attached to his bucket hat when Axl found him. If you valued ur fingers, you did not touch his hat. Slash had seen him and rolled his eyes not bc he was better but bc he saw thru the act and BH thinks Slash needs to get over himself, he's every bit as talented as Slash. This comes to a head @ Axl's house, where after hissing and (Slash) spraying, BH takes a poo on the white carpet

I started picturing them as actual cats as I read that and then I remembered that I made Slash a panther and the image of a cat hissing in a takeout bucket with a bigass panther glaring at him pm killed me.

Anyways I’m glad you liked the poly bit!  I figure that Duff has had other gfs in the past but they’ve always been second to Slash in his eyes, Susan is the first time that things have been balanced and coming to an understanding between the three of them is surprisingly painless.
