just came across this picture of a casa cueva in 1964 😔😔 i kinda hate that nowadays most of them are now airbnbs and very few people actually live in them

for reference, here is the percentage of people that lived in casas cueva (cave houses) in 1963 per province in spain
guadix, in granada is known for its casas cueva, and has more than 2000 of them! but as you can see, they could be found pretty much everywhere in the eastern half of the peninsula, the picture on top is from guadalajara for example. anyways, here's how guadix and its casas cueva looks like <3

#casas cueva you are so loved#i visited some when i was a kid cause in the area where i go every summer there's tons of them#pretty close to the town i stay there's one called cuevas del almanzora which translates to 'caves of almanzora' and shockingly#there's casas cueva there lol#also technically i guess the house where i stay every time is a casa cueva#it's built onto the cliffside and the entrance to the house is just like the ones in the pictures from guadix like it's built out of the#rock. and all the houses in that community have a room we call 'the cave' because it's well. a literal cave lol. it's my grandma's room :)

Hey so I’ve mentioned this a lot of times on my main blog, but I wanted to put this out over here since it is Hallow’s Eve. I always give out little tchotchkes on Halloween along with candy. This year, I’ve completely switched over to 100% doohickeys and doodads— think mechanical pencils, shaped erasers, little notebooks, squishes, vampire teeth and spiders rings and all. It started years ago in college when I signed up for a dorm Halloween event where kids from an area that was too dangerous to really trick or treat through got bussed in to trick or treat at our dorm. I bought some candy and dollar store Halloween themed stuff with what i had. And you know what the kids went ape shit over?
Motherfucking. Mechanical. PENCILS!!
These kids could not get enough of them. They literally went “PENCILS??!” I had never seen kids get so hyped up for pencils lmao. They were the first things to go. Candy is fleeting; the little pencils you can bring to school to flex are eternal, until you inevitably lose one of the refill parts and then they aren’t but listen, in that one moment they are infinite. And its nice thinking that maybe some kids who don’t always have access to school supplies not only get them, but get them in fun shapes and designs.
Anyway. I recommend people to give out fun stuff like this not just because kids seem to genuinely enjoy them, but also because there’s this thing called the Teal Pumpkin Project here in America. You can put out a teal pumpkin to show that you are giving away non-candy items and sign your address up so parents of children with allergies know that there are houses their kids can safely and happily trick or treat at! It’s a win-win! Plus, if you accidentally bought too much, it’s not like candy— just pack it away, pencils and fidget spinners will be good next year, too! :)
#its such an easy and fun thing to do#and it helps make Halloween accessible for some kids who might otherwise not be able to participate#i always think about stuff like that#my step-grandparents had a ramp built at their house for them#but one great unintended side effect is that they always got a lot of children in wheelchairs to their house on Halloween#who were so so excited they could go up to the door and ring the bell for once :’)#so like i always try to think of ways to maybe include people who might have trouble otherwise when i can!#and this is such a little but easy to do change#i like to source my stuff from the dollar store targets dollar area and amazon#i bet party supply stores (think party favor bag stuff) would work great too#so. if you have time tomorrow maybe run on over to the dollar store during your lunch hour#grab some random little things. kids will go crazy. maybe you’ll brighten someone’s day

I had a dream where Bella was babysitting the Mutant Mayhem turtles (I haven't even seen MM but okay) and took them to like a bath house? And Raph was being a little shit to her and she wasn't having it, I remember that. And then she lost one of them on an elevator and had to run up and down the stairs trying to figure out where they got off.
And honestly that part is correct if this was a sitcom there would absolutely be an episode where Bella lost one or all of the kids and had to scramble to find them before their dads came back.
#minus the part about the bath house#for one that was weird and also i don't know why there was an elevator? aren't most bath houses one floor?#i guess they could have gone to one built into a hotel#but bella wouldn't actually take them out in public she ignores a lot of draxum's rules but this one she adheres to because#well 1) her uncle would actually kill her#but also she agrees with his reasoning a bunch of people would want to kill or kidnap these kids#and if big mama learned that her champion was not only alive but had four genetically enhanced super children#she would NEVER stop trying to get her hands on them#yeah as much as bella would like to take her little cousins to charles eduardo cheese and let them play there all day#she's not willing to risk them getting kidnapped#draxum's house is pretty big though she probably lets them explore his storage areas and free eldritch horrors

Every time I hear politicians and rich folk complain about fertility and the population, all I hear is that the wolves are complaining that the sheep aren't breeding.
#The only reason these people shifted from “stop having kids” from the last decade to “start having kids” is because in their eyes#we're cattle. workhorses and tax cattle.#the world isn't built for families anymore and most global economies are built on exploitation and people are aware of that#and then you got people in power trying to undo hundreds of years of progress#so who the hell would subject a child or a person of their own making through that?#fuck i mean we have kids right now that need homes and families that can no longer afford adoption too on top of it cause the economy#is crippling everyone by the ball sack#sorry guys dont mean to get political on here this is a hot topic in my area and the yewnowoos still don't get it#us politics#politics#fertility#economy#magenta is my vent word

i love it when families have specific little oddities. like you can’t even mention malta to my mother without her threatening to kneecap you. because we had a bad holiday experience there. once. 19 year ago. and she has refused to ever set foot in the country or hear its name ever again
#i had a friend whose father pretty much moved out there and she says it’s great#and I was like yeah I’m sure but we’ve been forbidden from ever going there ever again#the bad experience was. 1) the hotel we were supposed to stay at hadn’t been built yet but nobody told us#so we got off the bus and it was literally a building site#so they put us in a different hotel which was super dirty#and it was like a massive party area so the whole town were up until like 5am blasting music and throwing things across balconies#but we were supposed to be on a family holiday#like it was my parents and their 2 kids who were under 16#and she cried for like a week#personally I don’t recall any of it#i do remember a cockroach and toilet paper being thrown from the balcony#but aside from that I literally have no memory of this holiday at all#i was like 8 years old. I’m 27 next week. I’ve never been to malta before or since#i do kinda wanna go though because there’s no way it’s bad#but instead of my mum being normal and saying it was a bad experience#we’re banned from the whole country now

ok let me whine & complain for a sec bc there has been a construction vehicle digging dirt right outside my window since 6:30am i think it is insaneeee how they are creating a road literally like a foot away from the fence around my house like that is crazy & i have to wonder who approved this & was like yes we will create a nuisance for this entire suburban neighborhood by creating a road like 10 feet past the property line for all of these homes (i am NOT exaggerating when i say like 10 ft it is LITERALLY right there 😭) bc we just haveeee to build more homes that will definitely sell despite the housing crisis bc on god EVERYONE wants to live in the middle of nowhere in one of the worst states in america. there are literally TWO construction sites rn building a ton of homes in my area WHO is going to buy these?? WHO is moving here there are like no big cities around here what kind of job market do they think there is that this many ppl want to move here. and it’s sooo funny too bc my dad wanted to leave nyc so bad bc oh there’s so much construction all the time well now there is even worse construction right here in your blessed new state even closer to your home and on a much larger scale 👍 we did it! truly i just hate to see the way every single bit of free land is eaten away by corporate greed to build more and more houses and for what? for who? no one can afford homes and the birth rate is declining where is the market? is it really so bad to have some trees? some open grass and field? i’m sick……
#michelle speaks#by my old house we had a big open grassy area and they of course ripped it up & built houses#my old school had a giant parking lot that we used to play in at recess & was also parking for families dropping off and picking up their#kids obvs which was great bc my school was in a residential area w no parking. and they sold half the parking lot to build houses.#there is going to be a bigger market for houses in queens ny tho i will admit that although idk who can afford them#my rinky dink house was valued at like $800k-$900k tho my dad sold it for VASTLY below that price#bc he is the biggest dumbass on planet earth although i wont get into that thats a whole other thing#but the same thing here there are a bunch of open green areas and they just get eaten up by construction and homes#like YES most of my annoyance is bc i’d lobe to be sleeping rn & my adhd ass can NOT sleep w any noise whatsoever#nor can i wear things like earplugs to sleep that is a nightmare unfortunately the world is not made for ppl who are neurodivergent#i accept that reality. but like also i am deeply frustrated by the way that ANY open area is just eaten up like this for homes.#it is time to STOP! building houses. ENOUGH!!!!!! the housing crisis is NOT bc there aren’t enough homes#there are TOO MANY and NO ONE can AFFORD THEM!!!!!! STOP!!!!!!!

"The average pediatric wheelchair can cost thousands of dollars. And when children grow and their needs evolve — or a wheelchair gets damaged — those costs multiply.
So, the team at MakeGood NOLA, a New Orleans-based adaptive design lab, has made something that can transform the world for disabled children.
“Introducing the world’s first fully 3D-printed wheelchair,” MakeGood founder and president Noam Platt started a recent social media video.
He wheels a small, almost toy-like lime-green wheelchair into the frame, complete with a matching harness, suitable for children ages 2 to 8.
“Everything from the body, to the wheels, to the tires, the seat, and even the straps, all were 3D printed on a regular Bambu Labs A1 machine,” Platt continued.
This means the design is fully compatible with a regular 3D printer anyone can have in their home.
“We designed this to be modular and easy to make,” Platt continued. “Really, anyone with a 3D printer and some filament can download the files and print it.” [Note: You can also use 3D printers for free or a small cost at some public libraries and maker spaces, opening up accessibility even further.]
Once the prototype is completely finished, it will be available as a fair-use download that anyone can use for free.

Platt said that because it has a modular design, the wheelchair can be put together without any tools or glue. And if any part of it breaks or is damaged, users can simply re-print the single piece they need.
“As a wheelchair user I love everything about this,” TikTok user @thisisharlie commented on Platt’s video debuting the wheelchair.
“Mine costs more than my car, I can’t imagine having to buy a new one every year or two as they outgrow it,” @thisisharlie continued. “You’re going to change the world.”
For Platt, that’s always been the plan.
When he created MakeGood in 2021, the nonprofit design lab was thinking of the more than 1 billion people around the globe who live with disabilities.
“Since traditional design often overlooks diverse bodies and minds, it is crucial to reshape the built environment,” MakeGood shares on its website. “The challenges our communities face — both physical and social — are solvable.”
MakeGood works with individuals to co-create their adaptive design solutions, centering the “Need Knower,” the disabled person or their primary caregivers, throughout the entire process.
Since the founding of MakeGood, 1,600 individualized adaptive devices have been delivered to families for free. Platt’s team found a niche with this wheelchair, which they call the Toddler Mobility Trainer, or TMT.
On its website, the organization says the wheelchairs were “designed with therapists from all over the world” and offer “unmatched mobility and independence to young kids.”
Children and parents agree.
“It’s an A+,” one parent said of an earlier prototype of the TMT in a report by CBS News. “It’s helped [my son] become more mobile and be able to adapt into the other things that he’s going to be offered. It’s helped his development.”
At the start of the design process, Platt reached out to area hospitals to see if he could fill a need.
“Part of it is empowering clinicians that we can go beyond what is commercially available,” Platt told CBS News. “We can really create almost anything.”
Now in the final stages of tweaking the TMT design to be ready for release, Platt is eager to get the wheelchair rolled out and into the homes of the children who need them most.

“We think this sort of 3D printing and design is going to be huge for accessibility, and for wheelchairs specifically,” Platt said in his social media video.
In the meantime, people can request a free chair from MakeGood.
“We have a growing list of people who’ve requested these, and once we finish the design, we’ll start filling those requests with custom-printed chairs, including things that you might need for your particular chair,” Platt said in a follow-up video.
Because the chairs are easily 3D printed, they can come in any color and can be modified to include other accommodations, like a section to hold a breathing device or other aid. With years of customization and design experience under his belt, this new innovation is simply an extension of Platt’s dedication to inclusive design.
In 2023, Platt told New Mobility: “I feel like every time I deliver one of these [assistive] devices, I get a hopeful feeling that the world has been changed a little bit for the better for the next generation.”"

Told someone once I regularly swam and waded in the river prominently running thru our city and they were impressed by my bravery. For going in the water thousands of other people also go into? I grew up swimming in lakes with no roads nearby and peeling leeches off my feet.
#one of the parks built a wading area into part of it that kids play in lol#also A/C is expensive; big cold river is free#personal

Everyone thinks I’m just this little nice girl like my ancestors aren’t from Mexico City!?
#the amount of intergenerational trauma I’ve inherited must be insane bc I felt like I was dying 24/7 up until like 2 months ago when I#learned how to heal my nervous system loll#idk what happened in my lineage but I have a whole lot of rage so it can’t be good lmao#everywhere you go in Mexico City you’re standing on the ruins of Aztec temples that the Spanish built over#that city is the embodiment of colonization and trauma lol#I guess that’s what I feel so weird about Mexico City becoming a fun tourist spot for white Americans#bc there’s no acknowledgment of the history of colonialism and slavery and violence that had made the city what it is today#let alone the experiences of people who live there now who are experiencing poverty and gentrification and neocolonialism by the US#I’ve been visiting Mexico City since I was a kid bc my grandma lives there but I never fully understood the history of the city#until I went to the downtown area where the famous church is and walked over the ruins of the temples that peek out as you walk#in the capitol building reminding you of the indigenous communities that were decimated to create everything you see in front of you#it’s a surreal feeling that I’ll never get over#personal
