The almost-teen is clearly elated to know that there was a task specifically for her! It was no secret that Hope loved to help around and she always went to who she could to see if she could help.

She couldn’t help running in, gently taking the folders and giving Joey a hug.

“Of course I can!! Thanks, Uncle Drew!! There anything else you need after? That way I can do it right away, too!”

Something was going on.

Last night Henry Hayes told him something that didn't make sense. Joey never had his nose broken. But that didn't make sense.

Almost a year ago he broke Joey's nose himself, when he found out that Bendy was being abused. If Joey didn't get a broken nose... Then who did he punch? He had to get to the bottom of this.

But going in and asking him would raise suspicion. So he was going to have to simply engage with the man and observe. If this was some elaborate trick from Joey or Hayes, he was going to find out in one conversation.

So, grabbing a folder of papers for Joey to sign, he made sure to hold off and doing all of it in one trip. It gives them a reason to prolong their usually-minimal interactions and get words in.

He walked down to Joey's office, and knocked on the door with two knuckles as he always did.

Time to see what he can find out.

Starter for @devilswinging​ / @builtmachine​ cause YEEEEES

The deer demon let out a startled squeak as she opened her eyes to a whole new world...literally. She was certain that she was working on expanding her orphanage before her vision blacked out, and when she woke up...

Wooden walls and floors greeted her, as well as a very strong scent of ink. What is this..? Her red irises locked onto everything they could as she tried to piece together where she was. The room was a bit dark, lit by candles for the most part, and she stood in the center of an odd symbol on the floor drawn in ink. 

“Was...I summoned? I didn’t think that was possible for me..” Starlette breathed out in confusion. “Hello..?” She called out before stepping out of the ink symbol, the sound of her footsteps reverberating in the room and causing the wood beneath her to creak.

What was this place? She felt a bit anxious as she started ascending the wooden stairs, her ears already flattening against her head.

He gave a snort. At least so far that was typical.

"You always say that. It never does, Joey." Grant always addressed informally, finding very little reason to be proper to anyone here. The only reason he used Henry's last name was to make sure the correct Henry was referred to.

He looked around the room, trying to find something to look at. He finds the decanter of some liquor over on a shelf in the corner of the room, and so he focused on that, taking in the design and trying to guess what Joey had in there.

"Might get better for you or the animators, but not anyone else."

The fact that Joey seemed happy to see him set off a few flags of suspicion. Cheerful, Grant would observe as he stepped in. He shut the door behind him carefully before walking over to the desk, already brandishing the folder.

“Just payroll and expense reports,” a simple answer. With anyone other than Bendy, he always had very few words to give. He stayed standing, watching Joey take the folders as he waited for him to go over them and sign off each page.

Everything seemed… Normal. And that’s what made it odd. After breaking his nose, he wasn’t expecting such an eager welcome.

“Has Hayes spoken with you about the park yet?”

“Ah, all right,” he hums, taking the folders and skimming over the pages. Of course, by now Joey knows that there’s no actual reason to go looking over the page for mistakes - mistakes just aren’t something Grant does - but it’s still professional to at least give it a once-over.

Usually Joey tries to keep talk to a minimum when it comes to things with the staff. Mostly because… well… the staff doesn’t seem to like him, and really he doesn’t understand why but he’s not the kind of man to truly go prying unless it’s an absolute necessity. And he figures as long as things are still getting done and they’re able to maintain at least a business relationship, his staff are free to think whatever they will of him.

“No, not yet. I did get a note saying we need to discuss it as soon as possible but neither of us have had a chance yet. It should be within the week, preferably sooner than later.” Joey only glances up from the paperwork as he speaks, to give Grant a short look of curiosity. “Patience, Mister Cohen. It’ll get done and then things’ll be better.”

EVENT: Impersonation Investigation

There’s Bendy’s voice over the intercom. It’s obvious it’s something important when Bendy’s the one using the intercom. Though how did he get access to it without Joey going ballistic...? “Listen up, ‘cause this is important an’ kinda crazy folks!”

A clearing of the throat. “Someone’s been impersonatin’ Joey. An’ they’ve been doin’ a pretty good job a doin’ it. Now, I ain’t sayin’ it’s one a you’s, ‘cause I know it ain’t. The level a impersonatin’ the culprit’s doin’ is beyond anythin’ a human could ever attempt. So y’all’re in the clear. No... This is the work’a a demon. Someone like me.”

“Exactly like me, actually. There’s another Bendy roamin’ these halls. An’ I’m askin’ to keep yer heads down an’ keep yerselves safe; I think we all know by now how dangerous I can be, so this guy’s no exception. An’... I want’cha to block the cutouts’ lines a sight. All a ‘em. I ain’t the only one able to use ‘em anymore, an’ if we can cut off any an’ all advantages this other Bendy might have, the better chance we stand a findin’ him.”

“... that’s all. I got a demon to find.”

The intercom crackles to silence.

The hair ruffle gets a giggle out of Hope, her hugging the journal to her chest for a moment before cheerfully adding. “I couldn’t have done it without you and everyone else!”

A pause as she tried to lean a little bit and sneak a peek at what Henry was working on. “I still got a lotta work to do, though. D’ya know what I should try working on next?”

He let Joey go first into his office after walking down the hall. He already came this far, and Grant wasn't one to back down. He carried with him a neat folder, this one interestingly unlabeled. He didn't think he would need it, but he was always a few steps ahead.

He shut the door behind him with his foot when he entered, speaking as he remained standing.

"Now, shall we cut to the chase and start talking about how much more I can be compensated, or do we need to beat around the bush and I explain why I deserve to be paid more fairly?"

He put his free hand in his pocket, remaining a casual stance for the moment.

“Alright Joey, we have a conversation that’s long overdue. Your office or mine?”

TIMELINE UPDATE!

OOC. look! devilswinging is updating again! i may not actively post for now (because overall muse is still dead), but i wanted to update everyone on some timeline revisions i’ve done since personally playing BATIM and reading Dreams Come to Life. everything’s gonna be under a cut so that it doesn’t clog up anyone’s dashboard. i wanted to update everyone because if i do come back to tumblr rp, i’ll immediately be jumping into this revised timeline instead of keeping the old one

THE MOST MAJOR UPDATE IS THAT ISA/BAST NO LONGER EXISTS. i know, shocker. the Ink Demon is in fact Bebe now. instead of having two different Bendys, we’re just gonna keep it at it being the same demon, just horrifically traumatized! mostly i did this change bc of reading through the novel. it just made more sense to me for the once-friendly and peppy yet abused demon to eventually snap and drag everyone down with him in vain attempt to hold the studio up on his own after both of his creators ditched the studio.

secondly! Joey is a bitch! yep, you heard it here, i’ve officially joined the canon bandwagon of Joseph Drewseph Is A Huge Dick. with the erasure of Isa as a character, having Joey be nice just didn’t work out anymore. somebody had to be the reason Henry left. somebody had to be the reason Bendy snapped. and (un)fortunately Joey was the only one who fit the bill. so he’s bitch, like canonically. (yes, this does mean that joey will be removed from @builtmachine. because unfortunately i cannot actively write abusive/asshole characters as seen by me immediately butchering isa/bast from bad guy to good guy)

last major point! the Inkverse mostly happened because Bendy was attempting to hold up the studio on his own. of course the Ink has a mind of its own, somewhat, but the majority of it is still very much a hell and prison of Bendy’s own making.

the full timeline is this!

Henry and Joey are both born. [1901]

Joey Drew Studios is founded [1920]

Bendy and Co are made around, even if they haven't shown up in the cartoon yet. [1925]

Henry gets sick of the studio and loses hope in it and yadda yadda and quits. [1930]

Bendy begins to destabilize and become monstrous. Thomas locks him in the infirmary under Joey's orders. Everyone still there is forced to ignore his cries. [1930-1934].

Bendy Land begins construction. Financial decline for the studio. [1944]

Studio is placed under investigation for hazardous environments, missing employees, harassment, and excessive backpay. Company also bankrupts. [1946]

Buddy finds Bendy and frees him. Bad idea! [1946]

Snooks, Spitner and Snooks sues JDS for mismanaging workers. The studio closed 12 days later. [1959]

Joey leaves the studio [1959]

INKVERSE!! [1959-1972]

Thomas and Allison begin to die, Boris and Alice sacrifice themselves to save them, making Tom and Allison Angel. [1960]

The Butcher Gang become one set of their corrupted copies, making the indistinguishable from the rest. [1961]

Henry returns to the studio. [1963]

Henry is trapped in the studio. [1963-1972]

Henry manages to calm Bendy (skipping the idea that Bendy becomes trapped in "The End") and leaves the studio with him. [1972]

TL;DR: the Inkverse is ultimately caused by Henry leaving, Bendy destabilized and being publicly abused by JDS and causing at least some of the environmental hazards, and the Inkverse being fully realized once Joey leaves and Bendy has no one left to “support” him.

other minor points that may not be timeline specific but are in fact major plot revisions!

THE CYCLE IS DEFINITELY NOT A TIME LOOP. i’m sorry, i still detest legit time loops as a narrative point. the Cycle for devilswinging’s timeline is simply a cycle of life and death for Henry; considering just about EVERYTHING within the Inkverse is made of Bebe’s ink, it makes sense that every time Henry died and was brought back, the events could - and would - replay over and over. long story short, once Henry actually beats Bebeast with The End, that’s it. it’s over. they can leave. he can take him out of the studio.

the whole universe is now a Who Framed Roger Rabbit-esque Toon Town universe, taking inspiration and pieces from multiple sources on an OOC level - mostly from WFRR and Animaniacs + Tiny Toons. long story short that just about everyone knows: humans and toons live on the same plane and coexist.

but vee, why do the JDS toons have to hide away then if this is a Toon Town universe? THEY’RE FREAKS. explaining that further: they were created by means different from other studios’ toons. putting it simply, most toons (ex: the Warner Siblings) literally jump off the page from the love and inspiration put into them by their creators and studios as a whole. the JDS toons... didn’t get that, considering it was likely only Henry who truly loved them. so they had to be brought to life by other means... aka the Ink Machine, which made them demon-toons instead of true toons; JDS had no choice but to hide them away because if they got caught displaying their demonic sides, there’d be trouble. i mean there’s trouble regardless, but yeah.
