Just finished the game, and holy shit

The entire elven pantheon is dead. I mean, at the end, either Bellara or Neve (whoever's kidnapped) tells you that Elgar'nan is the only thing holding up the Veil. And they're right, because after his boss fight, the Veil instantly shatters. My theory: Solas killed at least one or two elven gods during the opening scene of Veilguard. Sure, he claims he was transferring them deeper into the Fade, but as the game's events establish, Solas is a lying liar who lies. Firstly, it's possible for him to do this because, as most fans know, the Grey Wardens killed five Archdemons over the course of nine centuries. The Reddit AMA leaves it ambiguous as to what happened to the trapped Evanuris each time that happened. The writers say it "broke their minds and bodies" for certain, but even then, they don't elaborate on what that means. They say that "a couple may have survived as shells", implying certain Evanuris died pre-Solas's ritual. But they don't say which ones and they don't say when these deaths happened. Plus, if killing an Archdemon was enough to instantly kill a trapped Evanuris, it'd be in Solas's best interests not to do his little ritual. All he'd have to do was sit on his heiny and wait for the next two Blights to occur. And since the ancient Tevinter magisters, according to him, only released "a trickle" of the Blight, he'd likely be perfectly fine with doing that. However, given that: -Solas is so insistent on tearing down the Veil this instant, no ifs and or buts, -doesn't get involved at all with the Grey Wardens on his own initiative (unlike Flemythal)

It seems to me that just killing an Archdemon every naturally-occurring Blight doesn't do the trick when it comes to eliminating the Evanuris. The Grey Wardens have not been unintentionally destroying the Veil this whole time; they have merely been making it possible/easier for Solas to do so. Waiting for the next two Blights to roll around will not accomplish a lot, if you consider it from Solas's perspective. Minimum reward for maximum carnage.

So yes: Solas was low-key committing deicide during the interrupted ritual. How he planned to kill the two deities who still had Archdemons, I'm not sure. But I know he was killing whatever "shells" of the Evanuris were left.

the most frustrating part for neve tho is the way they both try to pretend it isn’t happening when they see her. for a while things are pretty normal (aside from magpie’s little solo trips to murder other crows. but that’s fine.) so they’re not even really Lying by omission or otherwise. but eventually it becomes like. a thing. and neve being neve will bring it up every time and the two of them will go it’s fine. it’s nothing. which drives neve fucking bananas. they’re both so committed to “protecting” her from this that they’re showing up to her house to spend time with her 24 hours after lucanis was once again lectured by caterina about ignoring his duties and with some other crow’s blood still dried under magpie’s nails and she’s just supposed to Accept it. which she of course can never ever do. because she’s neve. it’s a miracle she didn’t leave them to be so fucking honest but unfortunately lucanis’ big cow eyes have bewitched her body and soul and magpie’s little pout could get anyone to move mountains for her. so instead she has to watch her boyfriends tear themselves and each other apart piece by piece for their belief in a system that doesn’t! fucking! work! until lucanis has a breakdown big enough to get magpie’s stubborn head out of her own ass to Listen To Neve. Finally. and things work out fine but fuck man imagine having to watch these people who you Know would go to the ends of the earth for you try desperately to keep you out of something for your own safety at the expense of their own sanity. if i were neve i would have started hitting them with hammers posthaste. but love makes you so so so stupid. even if you are neve gallus.

it Is canon that lucanis gives up the title of first talon post game for fucking sure in magpie’s world state but it is NOT magpie who convinces him to do this. magpie is in fact spending most of his years as first talon trying to Keep him in power by any means necessary. they fight about it like. monthly if not more by the end (mostly bc it drives lucanis mental that she keeps sneaking off to assassinate crows who threaten him and putting herself in mortal danger. and one really bad argument after she gets in a fist fight with illario at one of caterina’s little Family Dinners lol) it’s not even that she doesn’t think he would be happier if he Weren’t first talon it’s that she, like him, sees No Way Out Of It. neve has to be the one to be like guys you can literally just stop. you can stop doing this. in fact i need you to stop doing this because i would like to spend time with you where lucanis doesn’t seem like he’s 3 seconds away from crying at all times. this whole thing is for sure going to get you both killed. it does take, like, a lot of convincing on her part and a good few arguments (magpie unfortunately only knows how to deal with big problems via argument. this was an issue for solas in her head as well.) but i think eventually it Does work and she gets them the fuck out of there. not out of the crows entirely bc we all know that will never happen but at least the dellamortes are no longer the first house. and also they definitely move into her minrathous apartment at least part-time which neve didn’t really think through
