Hey, sorry if you already answered this question before, but I would like to enjoy some Welsh media, like songs, tv-shows/movies or books. Do you have any recommendations? Also, happy holidays and a happy new year!
Hello! I hope your holidays were happy.
I'm assuming you're asking for Welsh-language media specifically, so that's what I'll offer; if you want anything from the rest of Wales, give me a shout.
Music - so, my personal Welsh-language playlist on Spotify is here, which may contain things to interest you as a sort of jumping-off point to explore an artist more. I'll also put my Welsh music tag on this post, though, so you can check that and see what recommendations others have made on my posts in the past. You'll find people recommending Adwaith and Gwenno and people like that, see, neither of whom I particularly like and so don't have on my list, but are pretty popular. The true cultural tour-de-force for young Welsh speakers is Sebona Fi, by Yws Gwynedd - if you listen to no other, listen to that one.
TV and Film - tricky because availability is difficult. I gave some recent recs here; others to consider are Ar y Ffin (the big current drama on S4C), 35 Diwrnod (sort of a thriller - each series focuses on a murder, which you see in the opening minutes, and then rewinds to 35 days before it happened. You then watch the events play out. Kind of murder mystery, but no detectives), and...
Actually, maybe check out Hansh across its various platforms? It specialises in little short pieces (a few minutes each) that could be comedy skits, documentary shorts about a social issue, cultural round ups of the various gigs happening this week in Wales, etc. Very diverse. Their target audience is, basically, Millennials And A Bit Under. They also do longer form variety things on S4C, but the shorter stuff is on FB, YouTube, etc.
Oh, and my husband has a kids variety show coming out in the next few months! I don't know what I'm allowed to say yet, but I'll definitely blog about it closer to the time.
Books - Obviously I don't know your tastes in books, but my recs:
Absolutely anything by Mihangel Morgan. He's the gold standard if you're learning, because his language is lovely and accessible; but also if you're a fluent speaker, because he writes mundane sci-fi and slightly absurd horror and things like that, all with an undercurrent of social commentary, and his stuff is absolutely fantastic. Dan Gadarn Goncrit is my husband's favourite book of all time in any language; meanwhile, I was given Saith Pechod Marwol at A Level and fucking loved it. I believe he's had one book translated into English, too - Melog. I've not read it in either, but I've heard great things.
Y Llyfrgell, by Fflur Dafydd (the author is also on my music playlist). Here's the blurb:
On a cold February morning, in the year 2020, Dan, a porter at the National Library of Wales, is committing his daily offence against the regime. Greeting him at the door is Eben, a biographer, itching to be admitted. But, they are both unaware that Ana and Nan, two librarians intent on revenge, are on the brink of changing the history of the National Library of Wales forever. This novel transforms the peaceful atmosphere of the National Library into a theatrical set full of possibilities - where bullets cut through the silence, the Reading Room is a cell, and the Library itself is an anti-hero of our literature...
Spectacular book, won the Gwobr Goffa Daniel Owen at the Eisteddfod in 2009.
I hope anything in there is useful!

Literary analysis for podcasts: my top tips
Recently some of my analysis posts have been getting notes again and it made me think that maybe I can share some advice with those of you who are interested in writing about similar things but feel hesitant to! I'm by no means an expert but I love writing and reading media analysis, and I'm sure some of you do too. This is primarily for social media and blogging, but some of it applies to academia too!
1. Know your media
This one's pretty obvious, but useful! Definitely write notes of your thoughts the first time you listen to a podcast, but if you're able to listen multiple times you can gain insight into what piques your interest again, and also what you missed the first time/s that other people might've missed too.
2. Know your audience
Engaging with the community of said media can add even more depth and interest to your writing and theories. Look at what people are already putting out there: what are their headcanons? What's controversial? What is nobody saying? There's always something new to be found, even if you're exploring a really popular aspect of the story.
3. Write for yourself
In my experience this is the most important thing. Even if you tailor your writing in a way you think will suit everyone, somebody will still disagree with you, so it's better to write what you think and feel (in a respectful and conciontious way) than to try and make everyone like it. There's always hate, but there's also always appreciators!
4. Don't undervalue transcripts
For some reason when I first started analyzing podcast content I was really against looking in the transcripts? I'm sure you're not, but either way make sure to read them if you can, there's often extra tidbits of information in them, and they can help you understand!
5. Sometimes how it was said can be even more interesting than the sentence itself
It can be so interesting to look into a voice actors choice; podcasts present the unique challenge of an audio only word, so phrasing can really make a difference and be interesting to analyse. It's also interesting to compare notable lines to the speech pattern an actor or character usually uses.
6. Sounds effects and audio design can be just as interesting as storylines
This is something really specific to audio dramas, as again they rely only on sound. I think it's easy to underestimate the difference that the sound design can make, but as it's something everyone interprets differently I find it a really juicy topic for analysis.
7. Have a look at the producer/creator's other work
This can be another really cool topic for analysis if you're interested in the maker themself! It can uncover common links in their work, introduce you to new media, and give you new perspectives on the media you started with! Also, as all of you creators will know, there's a chance they reused cut parts of your favourite podcast in another they made...
8. Be self indulgent...
I kind of already said this but I can't say it enough... Write about what you love, share your brainrot, share the weird little things you think (as long as they're appropriate to...). Just share your joy and it'll probably make other people happy too!
Hopefully some of this will be helpful! It's not all podcast specific, but it all certainly applies. And remember, if you think this is all really obvious, you may not be the target audience, but you can share it with someone who might be! And also, as always, please feel free to add your own tips in the tags!

intro post
name/pronouns/age/gay shit~
honestly you can call me whatever, but I probably won't know you're talking about me unless you use vel/velvet.
prefer they/it; any pronouns are fine.
non-binary
adult
queer (probably aego)
what I do/post~
I mostly post fandom stuff, and my original posts include a lot of art + occasional meta. I'm starting write fic too, so that might be a more regular thing in the future :)
other accounts~
@/velvet-games -- explicit nsfw bluesky account, not very active
@/velvetygames -- explicit nsfw twitter/x account, probably gonna stop posting on here
@cornerbytes -- old dragon prince account that I may or may not revisit eventually
@/velvet_games -- ao3 account
tags~
#velvetrambles -- textposts
#my art -- art tag (duh)
#red velvet cake -- aroace-related stuff
nsfw~
I post occasional nsfw here (almost never explicit; that's saved for my bluesky/twitter); it'll be tagged #nsft.
fandoms~
current fandoms: arcane/hazbin hotel
previous fandoms:
hannibal (will always have a very special place in my heart)
ofmd (literally so happy this exists; devastated it's not getting a new season)
the dragon prince (was gonna revisit it when the new season came out but the first couple episodes were kinda boring lmao; should I still give it a shot?)
good omens
lotr
things in media that make me go insane (in a good way)~
friendship
cannibalism
romance that feels like queer-baiting until it isn't (ex. ofmd)
good visuals (even if everything else is shit; extra points if it's animation)
good costume/character design
religious stuff, mythology, angels specifically for some reason (especially when they're terrifying and/or fallen)
gay people
requests~
you are welcome to send in ideas through comments, DMs, asks, etc., but I can't guarantee I'll draw them. if I don't, it doesn't mean that I don't like your idea; I'm probably just busy or have too many brainworms about a specific thing to draw anything but what's on my mind.
notes~
I randomly get really anxious about feedback on stuff sometimes lol, but I promise I read every single comment/tag and cherish them very deeply <33
also, like/rb spamming is totally fine and welcomed! I know some people don't like it, so I just wanted to make it clear that it's completely cool with me.
mutuals~
for a really long time, this was my pinned post, and it's still true! definitely welcome any interactions from mutuals <3
I do have a problem with randomly ghosting people though; I've been much better with it recently, but please try not to take it personally if I don't respond to DMs quickly. I'm probably just being insane and in my head about it. I'm really sorry.
misc~
this is an account that is purposely removed from my irl stuff; I'm here to have fun and relax on my mostly fandom-oriented blog.
I don't block often since I mostly meet nice people on here, but I am very happy to block accounts that make my experience on this app shitty.
I try to tag triggers when appropriate, but please let me know if you need me to tag anything I haven't.
art for me is just a hobby I use for fun and self-expression, so while I really appreciate concrit, keep in mind that my goal is ultimately to make stuff that makes me happy.
I am also very protective of young artists that get made fun of for being beginners or making unconventional art; you should never assume why someone is making art, and you especially should not assume that they are focused on becoming more skilled or making things that are beautiful to you. if they're not hurting anyone and you're not their target audience, get the fuck out.
I am of the mindset that media is not real, but that your reaction/the things you learn are. liking cannibal media does not make you a cannibal, but seeing bigoted portrayals of minorities can feed your biases (doesn't necessarily mean you can't consume it; does mean its effect on you/others irl should factor into if/how you decide to interact with it).
most important thing: have fun! tumblr is silly and should be treated as such.

Get to know your fanfic writer!
Thank you @callista-curations for tagging me!
When did you post your first ever fanfic?
Circa 2008 I think. Let me tell you those were the wild days. FF.n wasn't really that popular and AO3 straight up didn't exist yet. You would make a whole ass entire blog. And you would post your fic on that blog. And people actually found that shit???? Wouldn't work now.
First Character(s) you wrote?
OCs actually, in the PJO fandom. I don't really enjoy writing OCs now but that's what was cool back then 😅 The first canon characters I wrote were Sarah Jane and the Doctor from Doctor Who.
Main Character(s) you're currently writing?
Well I've always got that Shakarian brainrot, don't I? Also like. Saren and Nihlus I guess.
Character(s) you haven't written about before but plan to soon?
Jolyne and Jotaro Kujo! I've still lowkey got that Eyes of Heaven brainrot, and isn't it cool to write characters that are biologically parent and child as having a sibling relationship, but I'm aware that the target audience of that fic would be uh. me. so I'm not in a rush.
Fandom(s) you're currently writing?
It's mostly mass effect. Even the WIPs I have of other fandoms are scarce among my mass effectses.
Platonic Pairing(s) you're currently writing?
Jotaro and Jolyne, definitely. Shepard and Saren is always a lot of fun to write, though my Kryterius fic mostly focuses on Shepard and Nihlus. Also fun, but not as much.
Romantic Pairing(s) you're currently writing?
Shakarian and Kryterius. I mean what did you expect? a magic trick?
Your top AO3 tags?
Interspecies Relationship(s) absolutely sweeping at 32 fics. Followed by Fluff (19 fics) and Post-Canon (18 fics). Like I said I have no idea where this idea that I'm an angst writer came from, I'm all about the fluff--
Current platform you use for posting?
I guess I might as well officially say that since finishing up my first contact Shakarian AU two years ago, I am no longer posting my fics on FF.n anymore. It's all AO3 now.
Snippet of the WIP you are currently working on?
"Saren." Nihlus is immediately at his side, one hand on his cowl and another grabbing his good arm. "Saren, you're not going to die. I'm getting you out of here. I swear."
"Shepard will never allow that."
"She doesn't have a say in this. You're my responsibility." Nihlus nearly growls at the thought of anyone getting in the middle of that. After everything he's done, the Council will have to agree if he asks. Damn what Shepard thinks. "She doesn't have the authority."
"Nihlus..." Saren shakes his head at him. His subvocals, as always, remain infuriatingly silent, but Nihlus has learned to read his body language to make up for that. He doesn't like what he's seeing: Saren's eyes are completely vacant of any emotion and his shoulders drooped. There's nothing left in him, no fight, no hope. He's given up already.
And that's something Nihlus can't accept.
“I’m getting you out of here,” he promises again. This time, he receives absolutely no reaction.
It nearly breaks his heart to leave now, but he has to. He has to get Saren out of this as quickly as possible, he can’t allow this to go on. So he quietly slips out, silently hoping that Saren isn’t looking. He wouldn’t bear to have that hopeless gaze on himself right now.
Shepard is waiting for him just outside the holding cells. Of course she is. Nihlus doubts she would ever allow anyone to make a decision about Saren that she didn't approve, or at least know, of.
Which is probably going to make things very difficult for him from now on.
"You can release him," he says simply.
Shepard, to her credit, doesn’t say a word. She just looks at him like he's just done the worst thing she could imagine. In all honesty, the flicker of rage, disappointment, and disapproval that lit up her eyes almost made him pause.
She slowly shakes her head and walks away without as much as a single look back. Nihlus isn’t sure how he feels about that.
He just hopes he hasn't just made an enemy he won’t be able to deal with later on.
Tagging (but you guys know my tags are no pressure. I won't be upset if you don't do it.) @whiskynorocks @milkywayes and @nicolasadrabbles

crash course in romance
This kdrama was a bit of a let down in my opinion. I think the story starts as something focused on the girls life and that's what you expect it to play out, but as the plot moves forward she just gets forgotten and it honestly feels weird.
I must say they do mention some important or relevant topics in it, but it just did not translate to me. I think the focus switching to the mom was not a correct move, in my opinion both stories could've shined, but more so her daughters environment / story line was way more interesting.
I got really frustrated at times and one of the factors was the lack of chemistry and there was no real build up, it ended up just trailing off and losing its essence.
I, however, know there is a target audience of people who would enjoy this kdrama, that's why I set it as maybe if you're interested in watching it I would say it is a cute watch and definitely give it a try (maybe read someone else's review as well because I know mine was a bit negative).
Plot: 50
Acting: 70
Ending: 60
TOTAL: 60/100
recommend? maybe

❥ I'm 16 block if uncomfortable
❥ I discovered jirai kei in 2022, I liked the fashion so I did more research on it and really related to the mental health aspect and the stereotypes associated with it, I've been fixated on it since
❥ I highly suspect I have bpd (I know something is wrong with me and all of the bpd symptoms and experiences that I've researched resonate painfully hard) but I'm not diagnosed, if me liking or reblogging your bpd related posts makes you uncomfortable because I don't definitively have bpd please tell me and I'll stop
❥ I'm a lesbian (not relevant to blog but what else do I put here)
❥ I have the most predictable relatable character list ever you'd be able to guess all of them by looking at me
Posts
.•*🩷this blog will revolve around...🩷*•.
❥ jirai kei/general jfashion
❥ misc other media (nso, sanrio, vocaloid and maybe other things)

Do you play Romance Club? I love your sense of humour. I'd love to read your reviews of the romance club stories if you ever decide to download the app. I'd strongly recommend The Haze Will Take Us. The jealousy scenes have added years to my life. The author is teasing at least one poly routes. Sirin and Volot's friendship is so pure and wholesome. They're my main LIs, but I decided to buy additional slots for each LI. All gem choices are free during the diamond rush events, but I can't say that I regret supporting the author. Sirin, Volot, Tata and Novak are too precious. I don't have it in me to break their hearts. I don't want to end up locked out of their routes. I think you're going to like the story. RC's storylines are so intense at times. I could definitely use your lighthearted commentary.
hello luv ! sorry for the late response 😩 first i just wanted to say thank you, i’m glad you like my humour 🫶🏽 (i sometimes forget that people read my posts, i act like i’m yelling at a brick wall)
i played romance club for a little bit back in 2020 ! i enjoyed the stories i played (the one i remember the most & fully completed is shadows of saintfour)
their stories are well written, and i loved the stats mechanic & how choices actually make a difference...but i guess i just ended up losing interest. i think my main issues were with things like sidelined wlw routes & black MCs having an ashy skin tone (and nonwhite MCs feeling like an afterthought in general, with things like white MC in the CGs, lack of afro-textured hair, etc.)
but from what i've seen my mutuals post about RC, it does seem like they've improved in that aspect (& although they're based in moldova, as a company with russian authors/staff & target audience i know it's more difficult for them to include LGBT representation in the first place 💔)
i’m definitely open to playing it again, especially since LITG is the only app i'm currently playing (too hot to handle has a year between seasons, like LITG did when it were actually good...& i stopped playing choices because they've been going hard on the AI. some of their newer books have the most bottom of the barrel writing 😭)
as for posting about it on here, i’m not sure ! i assume it wouldn't bother my followers but it would kind of bother me because i'm weird (idk, just something about posting about other apps when this blog has been exclusively LITG since 2019)
for a second i thought about making another side blog for romance club, but this blog is already enough of a flop. that one would probably be straight up crickets 😭 (however it seems like RC has a more active tumblr fandom than post-season 4 LITG, so it might actually be more popular lmao)
so i'll have to think about that, but i'll definitely redownload romance club. i saw that and the haze will take us was written by the same author as shadows of saintfour, so i'll definitely check it out first !

tumblr likes to shit on marketing bc capitalism, but the reality is that marketing is an EXTREMELY useful skill to know and without having some level of marketing skills (conscious or unconscious), you don't get anywhere. marketing skills are what allow you to become financially free from a boss, make friends, sell your art, get any odd job, hock your fanfiction, even support your communities and create volunteer organizations. you need marketing to nail a job interview, to meet your soulmate, to buy a house, to rent an apartment.
marketing is just positioning something to show where it is best suited in someone's life, it's saying "i have this thing that can help you/ entertain you/ make your life better".
marketing is a neutral and necessary life skill that has nothing to do with your character or morals. a lot of u are squeamish about the term "marketing" bc capitalism, but i'm using the word for a reason - to call u out on your own bullshit when it comes to your fear of anything deemed capitalistic. you're holding yourselves back out of ignorance.
(marketing has been used long before capitalism even existed btw. capitalism just capitalizes on it bc that's how capitalism works, it's in the definition).
without marketing skills you cannot make any kind of progress in life.
marketing skills connect you to other people. my entire blog is an example of me marketing myself to a particular audience for a particular purpose. i want my girly girl solas lovers who are into random psychology rants like this one and weird esoterica to hop on this dick. am i being untrue to myself or scammy in my marketing here? NO. this is RAW ME, and i'm having FUCKING FUN. what do i get out of it? attention, enjoyment, entertainment, the feeling of being of value/ service to people who share the same brain worms.
without marketing skills you can't recognize propaganda, you fall prey to marketing tactics unconsciously, you don't appreciate as deeply the hard work people put into a product or service or piece of media FOR YOU (because you don't recognize how the product/ service/ media was made with you in mind), you can't tell if a product/ service/ person is right for you because you can't read who the intended audience is and will think every marketing message is for you (beauty marketing isn't making you feel insecure, you believing you are the target audience is. beauty marketing plays on people's insecurities, but so does ALL marketing. beauty marketing is ALSO targeting people who just want to be creative and have fun - different brands market to different desires). products/ services are meant to serve a purpose in our lives and the basic human drive is a drive for connection, progress, and need fulfillment (can't fulfill filled needs). marketing makes you aware of and answers the problem to unmet needs. if you're not insecure in your needs, why would you fall for marketing? the solution is not to eliminate marketing but to get better at understanding marketing tactics to see when and where the target market of an intended product or service applies to you or not. it's also imperative to become less insecure but that's another topic.
marketing is not going away and you can't change the world by complaining about it, but you can change your perspective and your position of power by educating yourself about it.

Budget Friendly Revamps That Pack a Punch
Tumblr media
Does your website feel like an outdated yearbook photo – a little embarrassing and definitely in need of an upgrade? You're not alone. Websites, much like our wardrobes, need a refresh every now and then. But for many of us, the thought of a website revamp conjures images of dollar signs flying out of our wallets. Fear not, fellow website warriors! Here are some creative strategies for achieving a cheap website design refresh that will make your online presence shine without burning a hole in your pocket.
First things first, let's address the elephant in the room. A website revamp doesn't have to be a complete overhaul. Sometimes, a few tweaks and smart updates can make a world of difference. Here's why cheap web design can be a powerful tool for giving your website a new lease on life:
Content is King (and Queen) of Refresh
Great content is the foundation of any website. Take some time to revisit your website content and ensure it's still accurate, relevant, and engaging for your target audience. Update outdated information, refresh old blog posts, and consider adding new content that showcases your expertise and keeps visitors coming back for more.
Revamp with Reorganized Navigation
Is your website navigation a confusing labyrinth? Visitors shouldn't have to navigate a maze to find the information they need. Streamline your website navigation by simplifying menus, using clear labels, and prioritizing the most important pages. A well-organized navigation system improves user experience and keeps visitors engaged with your website.
Stock Photos to the Rescue
High-quality visuals are essential for capturing attention and enhancing your website's overall aesthetic. Thankfully, you don't need to hire a professional photographer to achieve this. Many websites offer free stock photos that cover a wide range of topics. Explore these resources and use captivating visuals to break up text and make your website visually appealing.
Now, let's delve into some strategies for finding the perfect partner for your cheap website design revamp:
The DIY Do-Over
f you're feeling adventurous and have some basic design skills, consider using website builder platforms like Wix or Squarespace. These platforms offer user-friendly interfaces with pre-designed templates that you can customize with your own colors, fonts, and images. While they might not offer the same level of customization as a professional designer, they can be a great option for a cheap web design refresh if you're comfortable with a little DIY action.
The Freelance Force
The internet is a treasure trove of talented freelance web designers who can breathe new life into your website without breaking the bank. Websites like Upwork and Fiverr allow you to browse designer portfolios, compare prices, and even read client reviews. This is a fantastic way to find a skilled designer who understands your vision and can create a website that reflects your brand identity for a reasonable fee.
Student Powerhouse
Don't underestimate the design skills of tech-savvy students! Many universities and colleges offer web design programs, and students are often eager to build their portfolios with real-world projects. Consider reaching out to design schools in your area to connect with talented students who might be willing to refresh your website for a discounted rate.
Remember, the best partner for your cheap website design Singapore is someone who listens to your goals, understands your budget limitations, and prioritizes clear communication. Here are some questions to ask potential designers to ensure a successful collaboration:
Do you have experience revamping websites in my industry?
What is your process for website refreshes?
How will you handle revisions and feedback?
What ongoing support do you offer?
By following these tips and approaching your website revamp strategically, you can achieve a fresh and modern online presence for a fraction of the cost. Remember, a website refresh doesn't require a hefty price tag. With a little planning, resourcefulness, and the right partner by your side, you can transform your website into a digital haven that attracts visitors and fuels your success.

This may sound stupid but how do I turn off blazeable on my blogs?
And how is this bad? Again, I don't wanna sound stupid or rude. Thank you for the heads up :]
Hi! No worries, you're not the only one with these questions.
On how to turn off the option to get blazed:
On desktop you can turn it off at this link: https://www.tumblr.com/settings/blog/#blaze It looks something like this
Tumblr media
On mobile it's in the account settings menu, there's a lof of screenshots in the additions to my other post like here (i haven't updated since i got a funny little bug that lets me add polls in reblogs of other people's posts so i can't screenshot anything).
Alternatively you can also log into Tumblr in your phone's browser and use the link above there. Don't forget to do it on sideblogs that you don't want to get blazed as well! You can also change the settings per-post in the post menu. I've actually enabled it for my complaint post that's circulating because it would be really funny :D
On how it is bad:
With the way it is set up, people can blaze your posts without active consent. This can be used to bully people, by digging out old or not-adapted posts that were not meant for a wider audience and putting them on blast. This can include vent posts, opinions you might have changed since then, selfies, niche things many people might think are cringe (like 2014 self-insert omegaverse fanfics and the likes ... idk if you've seen the drama that resulted from someone blazing their fic, it wasn't pretty), posts that were only meant to circulate in your carefully curated audience, and more.
Since Blaze's are registered in many minds as advertisement many people will react negatively to them so this opens up a way to bully a lot of people. As usual, people of colour, trans people, and other vulnerable groups will get the worst of it, many are already getting deactivated regularly because of coordinated reporting harassment and since people donate hate organizations all the time they will definitely use the option to make the life of a person they're targeting living hell for 10$.
Staff thought of some safeguards but there are several fallacies:
The option to cancel a blaze before it goes live: Not everyone has access to the internet every day, and staff might accept the blaze while you're asleep / at work / on a trip / in the hospital / on hiatus. Then when you're coming back to tumblr your notes will have turned into a nightmare.
The guarantee that staff will check every Blaze manually to prevent harassment: Let's take the case in which someone's old fic get blazed against their will. How can staff know whether it was blazed with friendly intent (to promote a friend's work) or ill intent (to get people to point and laugh)? They can't as long as it's not against the Terms of Service. In general there will be many false positives (Blazes that get rejected by staff despite being innocent) and false negatives (Blazes that get accepted by staff despite being malicious). After all, the people working at tumblr are only human too. But in this case, false negatives will have devastating consequences - and extinguishing a blaze after it's live will be too late.
Many people don't follow @staff, so many people don't know about this change. In fact many people on that other post commented that they didn't know what Blazes are at all! I think i've read that they will add a login banner to tell you and check your settings, but iirc they had banners like that for the original Blaze function announcement so i don't have faith this will prevent anything.
I should clarify that i don't think the feature itself is bad at all, but it should be opt-in so only people who want to participate get blazed (e.g. art blogs). Or add an active mandatory confirmation by OP instead of a veto option, this would prevent the issues above as well, i think that would be the best option - that way people could leave the option on. I know staff are currently getting bombarded with support requests / flames (please be civil to them guys!) (also sorry. but not sorry. i didn't expect my post to blow up but also i think these are legitimately troubling concerns and i won't make the other post unrebloggable). They're aware of these issues so i hope they will change to one of these options - if they add active mandatory confirmation by OP i would enable to option globally as well (Hint hint this means more money for you, @tumblr, because otherwise many people have and will turn this feature off completely) A bit more time between announcement and go-live (4/20 iirc) would have been helpful as well.
Here's the original announcement by the way:
And since i'm gonna pin the post as long as the other post is circulating: Listen to goatbed guys!

one of my favourite blogs just deactivated her blog because of hate another blog brought onto her. please don't ever deactivate your blog. i literally look forward to reread the old and read new chapters of your work every day.
this isn't the first message i've received like this in my inbox today, along with a few asking how i deal with anon hate, and tbh i'm apparently out of the loop because i only know of one person who deactivated their account, and i don't think it's one of the ones people are talking about.
i've also never gotten anon hate. unasked for critiques on my writing? oh, definitely. and i've dealt with my fair share of catty writers in this fandom, but i've never gotten hate. that's rare, especially with the size of my following, and that's unfortunate—that i'm considered lucky.
my fics are fairly vanilla and uncontroversial, and i don't share enough of my personal life or personality for people to really latch hate onto, so i guess that's why i'm never targeted. but yeah, i can't really add much to the conversation regarding people deactivating since i don't even know *who* or *why*, but it wouldn't be the first time in the past two years i've seen a trend of very young fans driving older fans out of a fandom. fourteen-year-olds were raised to be vicious on the internet in an era where school bullying doesn't end after they get off the school bus, and likewise, there's a lot of pathetic 30+-year-old women acting like they're still fifteen and can bully you into obscurity for not being cool enough to be invited into their inner circle.
the internet can be cruel, and when you're doing something like writing stories as a hobby for an audience that doesn't know the appreciation of the hours it took you to write it, and then getting sent anon hate or being unfairly targeted by a bigger blog (or group of blogs) because one of them decided they don't like you? i don't blame them for deactivating. be kind. i'm here for eddie.

I just want to say that a while back I DM'd storm and I too was cussed out over a simple disagreement of terms. We disagreed on the definition of fan service and on whether or not BTS engaged in it. I believe they do because literally every celebrity does at differing degrees. She immediately tried to make me feel dumb for not reading through her incredibly long master list and post and not listening to her...because listening to her means always agreeing with her apparently. I pushed back and said one can listen but not agree, me listening doesn't mean me bowing to your definition, I'm allowed to disagree....and I think you're the one not listening to me. She responded with something along the lines of I've read everything you said but you don't make any sense. She then ended the conversation and blocked me. All because I didn't agree with her definition of fan service and I because I think BTS engages in it.
I know of other people to that were blocked simply because they disagreed with her. I genuinely think she doesn't understand that people not agreeing with her isn't an attack and that if you disagree with her it's because you aren't listening or paying attention. I never thought I'd get blocked because of something so small.
Me either anon. Me either. C'mere
Tumblr media
Okay people gather around. I came with a mission, and that mission was to make people aware of the fuckery that was going on. And I believe I did that because it got to the targeted audience. I ruffled some feathers along the way, but that was expected.
So, last ask I will post about this mess. Because I believe I did what I came to do. Hopefully people will be more aware of controlling behaviour from now on. It's a shame that people are still scared. So don't get it twisted, just coz I'm deading this issue, don't mean I ain't keeping an eye. Yes, I am what I was accused of; a self appointed sheriff of justice. Where's my sword?
Tumblr media
No one should be made to feel like they can't express themselves and share their opinions in their own damn blogs. So we are done. For now. But if this shit happens again we'll be right back here, once again. I fucking hate bullies. I hate them with every inch of my being. You get no love from me, sorry.
Conclusion/TLDR:
If you followed me for the drama, or to keep tabs on me so u can report back to your Queen, I'm done. U can unfollow now.
Tumblr media
But if u followed me coz u like when we talk about Jikook then my child, by all means, welcome. 💚💚💚💚

Is the Dollar-Chan Pattern School open to all sewists with questions looking to learn, even if they're not exclusively lolita-focused?
Okay, so my first reply was a formatting mess, check the notes for a reblog where I fixed that. Original is now under a cut.
Yes, but it still is a lolita-focused idea. You will pick your own patterns, within my guidelines. However, it's definitely going to be a case where people who are making lolita are the target audience, and people who are making other things are guests who are participating in part of the event
A lot of this is going to be taking an existing pattern and making it fit as a lolita garment. If you personally want to take the instructions for taking a pair of shorts and adding incredible volume and poofy little cuffs to it, and make that into something other than lolita bloomers, that's your right, but my instructions are absolutely not going to say, "and if you don't want to make bloomers, you can--" because who doesn't want to make bloomers?
There's going to be lolita-specific resources, the same way there are on this blog. I will go on at length about twill and lace and all of that will be framed in an EGL context. The passion of my blog is to get people who are interested in lolita fashion, but are intimidated by the price, to have the power to save money by making their own lolita items.
This also currently has an eventual goal of being confident at using Japanese lolita patterns published in places like GLB and OnS. For a western user to do these confidently, they need to know how to read a pattern, not just read instructions, and they need to know how to measure themselves against a pattern and make the pattern fit their body. That's the first two major skills that we're working towards.
That said. Sewing is sewing and I want people to have fun sewing. Sewing skills are universal and I want people to have them. I'm not going to stop and tailor the work for people who aren't interested in lolita and if you shit talk lolita i will ban your fucking ass because we don't do that in my server. I'm not going to make you wear it, but I will expect you to respect it.
If you've never been to a lolita meetup, you've probably never seen the small group of people wearing jeans, who are friends with the lolita-clad folks at the party but who don't wear the fashion. They're usually the Boyfriend Crew, though not exclusively, and they're usually happy to take coord photos and are generally part of the group in some way. If they can laugh when I call my parasol my "Kelly Eden Parasol because I got my dollar-to-yen wrong" then they're part of the group even in t-shirts. I'm not going to kick the Boyfriend Crew out of a meetup and I'm not going to kick the...non-lolita crew out of the group. But at the end of the day you need to be ready for a lot of this to be entertaining for you, but not for everything to be something that you're interested in. I would love the fringe audience to be interested and enjoy
Yes, sort of? Yes? But also Yes? Okay. So.
First of all, the Dollar-Chan's Pattern School posts that I put on this blog can absolutely be followed by anyone who wants to learn more about using and modifying patterns, and learning to read patterns by the pattern instead of the instructions.
The passion of my blog is to get people who are interested in lolita fashion, but are intimidated by the price, to have the power to save money by making their own lolita items. That is the audience that I'm building this towards. There's going to be lolita-specific elements in this project. However, I do recognize that the idea of learning to use and modify patterns appeals to more than just that audience.
As for the Discord community, so far there's plenty of people who appreciate the lolita aesthetic but don't really want to wear it. That's fine, but I am going to be clear about one thing: If you shit talk lolita fashion then I will ban your ass. I deal with that when I go out and so I'm not going to deal with it in my own discord.
If you've never been to a lolita meetup, you've never seen the number of people's plus-ones who are wearing t-shirts and jeans and who are totally happy to take pictures and hold parasols and share in the jokes, but who aren't interested in wearing the fashion. This is pretty normal and it's fun to have people in that position along, but they're also sort of like guests at someone else's house. The party isn't going to cater to them, but they're welcome to enjoy the parts of it that they're interested in.
So yeah, if you're okay with that, then I think it'll be fun. If you like how I write and how I share information, then you'll like folowing along. But, I mean, step 2 is going to be taking an elastic shorts pattern and adding fullness to make bloomers. If you don't want to make bloomers, you're on your own for figuring out what to do with giant pumpkin pants. So, just go into it knowing that. One of the first big goals is going to be working off Japanese patterns and dealing with the main issues of the pattern being too small and in a different language. Go into it knowing that, too. We'll get to making patterns too, but I'm going to be teaching it as making lolita patterns. And I think you'll have fun if you are aware of all the limitations and aware that I'm not going to change the focus on lolita even if there's pressure to change it. In the beginning, this blog was a way to motivate myself to make more lolita things for myself, and it's still that in its own way.

hi!! i've been wanting to get into fic writing, and ur one of my top fav writers on this app so i just wanted to ask for ur opinion hshshhs specifically on finding the confidence to put ur writing out there; i've always been very sensitive of showing people my works, and this'll be my first time writing fics EVER so yeahhh
also what are your thoughts on getting interactions/growing your blog? or finding moots! i don't really spend /that/ much time on here but i really wanna start writing fics and this is the platform i'm most comfy with!!
hope ur having a great day andie!! 💖💖
Omg first of all hellll yeah!!!! I'm so excited for you to share your work, this community is generally a very lovely place filled with very lovely people, and there's no better place for you to share your work imho.
I don't have super solid advice as I have kind of fallen into a lot of this by mistake, rather than worked concretely towards anything (except growing my writing style--that I have worked hard on). But I will try to answer as best I can!! I hope these answers are helpful!!
1. Getting confidence to share your work
In terms of dredging up the confidence to share, my own personal drive was the isolation during the beginning of the pandemic, where I was dying for a connection other than my roommates lol. I wanted to connect with people who loved the stuff I loved, and I wanted to have fun messing around with a little escapist fantasy in hopes that other people needed it too.
While the pandemic has died down a little, I think the same motivation might work for you too. The reward of connecting with the people who love the same things you love, and who might like to read the same stories you love to write--that's powerful. Think of all the friendships, advice, and just pure and simple community connection you would be missing out on by not sharing!! You deserve all the love and the friendships that I know will come your way after publishing, you just have to open the door.
And I would also say, try making things as comfortable as possible for yourself before sharing, to make it easier. Since you say you're a little sensitive about sharing your work, I'd edit your blog and your ao3 fic notes to tell people you're not yet ready for constructive criticism. I can say from experience asking for concrit that most of it is actually not that constructive (or is at least misinformed about what concrit is) and it can definitely mess with your motivation to finish a story. So give yourself a buffer and let your first experiences publishing online be kind and gentle ones!!
2. Getting interactions/growing your blog
This is probably easy for me to say because I already have so much of the connection I originally desired, but the best advice I can give is try to find a motivational balance between wanting to share your writing, and wanting validation. I cannot emphasize enough how much it's going to suck if you premise your online writing career around other people's validation in terms of numbers of likes, reblogs, kudos, etc.
That is not to say there is anything wrong with wanting validation. I think it's completely natural to want those things, but I definitely recommend really asking yourself how that squares with the other aspects of writing; namely, how much you love writing and sharing that writing, regardless of other people's opinions. I've had to take 2 multiple-month-long hiatuses already when I started to crave numeric validation beyond anything--it seriously sucks all the fun out of fandom and absolutely destroys your mental health--and I don't want you to ever have to experience the same thing.
That disclaimer being said, there are a couple major things that I think fic writers do to maximize engagement/exposure.
Posting time is the biggest one--depending on where you are from and what audience you are targeting, you can research the ao3/tumblr posting times that will net you the most eyes on your post. I don't have any resources on hand but I can say from experience that posting during daytime weekend hours in the US, I usually get more initial reaction from people than if I post at night or during the middle of the week.
A lot of writers join zines, challenges, big bangs etc to meet other writers/artists, and to get their work in front of more people. I don't have good advice for joining zines or anything since I was just asked randomly one time, but I'm pretty sure there is a bnha zine bulletin tumblr that will let you know if there are zines opening admissions for new writers and stuff like that!! I would recommend digging around for something like that to see if there is anything that looks interesting to you.
3. Finding moots
This one is another one I don't have amazing advice for because I think almost every single moot I have found me. I never want to bother people so I usually don't initiate interactions unless I am EXTREMELY interested in what a person is posting, or unless it's clear that they actually do wanna talk to me.
But what my moots have done is literally just talked to me. Consistently and kindly, navigating the twisting rapids of my online awkwardness. Eventually, I have seen them enough on my posts or in my inbox to realize that they wanna be friends and they do want to interact regularly. So I would recommend doing just that. If there's someone you admire or want to be friends with, interact with them first! Ask them questions and try to get to know them, and make it clear that you're not just being nice--you do wanna be friends.
I think a bunch of people also run discord servers and stuff like that that you can join where you can chat more intimately with people and get to know them as friends rather than just blogs. I would dig around on peoples' pages to see if they're in any kind of server you would be interested in too.
And usually with friends comes their friends, too, which is how I have moots I am not super close with but like and respect and know peripherally. So keep your heart open to them too, and soon you will have yourself a lovely circle of moots!!
Anyway this was a lot. I hope at least some of these answers are helpful!! I'm wishing you tons of luck and sending you my best vibes, and I'd be super happy to read your fic if/when you're ready to share!
