christmas’ for family, christmas’ eve’s for lovers. (part 12).
siwoo.
a coffee machine - the most random gift somebody could ever make, probably, but god knows siwoo had to have a girlfriend with a mean coffee addiction. and maybe he uses it too. maybe it was a selfish gift. but there was nothing better for him than sharing coffee with his girl in the morning.
juwon.
a hello kitty purse - oh, how it was comical, to see the poor seller trying to contain her laugh, seeing this absolute giant of a man buying the girliest purse of the whole store; but what his girl wanted, his girl had, and considering she had the most endeared laugh whenever she was happy, juwon knew he could handle a little bit of humiliation.

i want to talk about how tenderly and tactfully the subject of trauma has been handled in family by choice. full credit to the original c-drama for the story — but the remake is my first introduction to the show and its premise.
families can be a person's first experience of a wound: that single unanswerable ache from which each of your hurts flow and fountain forward. it's rare for k-dramas to acknowledge this: to acknowledge that the individual to whom you are born may not belong to you. may not give you the grace you require to grow. may not take your small, hot hand; hungry for solace — and instead simply cast it aside. your family can be your first sharp disappointment — your first clear shock at the sheer ugliness of the world. to some, love is freely given — to others it is nothing more than a bone flung from a scant table. you hug the hunger like it's your own bed-pillow — it becomes your only home. the only house you ever live in.
through sanha & haejun's characters; one can see how the talons of trauma can mark you forever. both actors deserve accolades for the raw desperation and confusion in their eyes at the weight they're being asked to carry — especially inyoup. there's a muted, exhausted malaise in his eyes — the gaze of an adult caged within a teenager's body. by contrast, haejun appears younger than his years — a helpless, childlike hurt and betrayal borne by his eyes. both boys carry boulders unfit for such delicate shoulders — because there is a special kind of cruelty in asking a child to bear a burden that was never theirs to begin with. in lining their shoes with the gravel of grief since they were old enough to walk.
what does it to do to a child (in haejun's case) to be told that love is not intrinsic — and that it has to be earned? that it has to be paid back? what does it do to a child (in sanha's case) to be told that you are not enough as your own self — that you will never be forgiven for a flaw that was never yours to start with? what does it mean to taste a parent's neglect on your own tongue — to have it tint every part of your speech for the rest of time?
what does it mean to be a father to such children — as juwon's appa so fiercely upholds? to treat their scars as sacred. to harbor their hurts in his own hands. family by choice is as much about trauma as it is about healing — about the people knitted to you through their knowledge of your wounds; their patience with your past; their trust that your tears are temporary. about the neighbors, friends, and forged bonds that may not be of blood, yet sustain you nonetheless; surround your spirit with warmth. the people who choose you knowing the charred heartbreak in your chest — who love and accept you knowing the latticework of your loneliness: the people who press it all away with a single touch or smile – they are your true faith. they are your true family. they are the only ones who matter.
sanha, haejun, and juwon all have their crosses to bear — but they also have each other. there is always light to temper the dark. there is always sanha's eyes; and the way they soften when he looks at juwon: the jewel-toned reverence with which he reflects on every single thing she does for him. wherever there is trauma there is also and always a tryst with hope — a heart holding on to the idea that there will be more. there will be peace. there will be resolution. there will be sunlight at the end of the black silence.
family by choice reminds me of this quote by poet and novelist ocean vuong: "we were born from beauty. let no one mistake us for the fruit of violence—but that violence, having passed through the fruit, failed to spoil it."

You saw him again.
Same place. Same time. The morning light barely touched the ground when he passed by—slow, unhurried, like the world wasn't rushing to begin. You didn’t plan to look. But your eyes moved before your thoughts could catch up.
Then at night, again
The street was empty, washed in cool tones of flickering street lights. Yet he stood there, like he never left. No phone, no bag, no destination. Just him, standing under the same signboard as this morning. And looking directly at you.
You stayed hidden, behind your scarf, behind your silence. He tilted his head slightly, curious. Maybe cautious. But he didn’t approach. He didn’t need to. Because somehow, you already felt… seen.
You tried to brush it off. Coincidence, maybe. Just another face in a city of millions. But the third time you saw him, under the amber sky where day began to fold into dusk, he smiled.
Not the kind you give a stranger. Not the kind that says hello. The kind that feels like a memory. And for a moment, the world turned quiet.
The crowd blurred behind him. The sound of car horns, footsteps, voices— all melted into a muffled hum. Your breath caught in your throat, like the air had thickened with something unspoken.
He didn’t wave nor did he call out. But he looked at you like he’d been waiting. Not for today. For you. And just like that, your steps paused. Not because you wanted to stop—but because something inside you already had.
A strange warmth bloomed in your chest. You didn’t remember his name. You didn’t even know if you ever knew it.
But the way his eyes softened… It felt like the universe was whispering, “You’ve finally found him again.”
You thought he'd walk away. like most people, when you don’t speak. But he stayed.
A few steps away, close enough for his presence to settle into your skin like mist. He didn’t push. He didn’t ask. He simply stood there, glancing at the sky like he had all the time in the world. You opened your mouth, just barely. No sound came out.
The words were there, trapped behind your ribs, pressed against your heart, but the door had long rusted shut. Silence was safer. Silence was yours.
He looked at you then. Really looked. No surprise, no judgment. Only quiet understanding in eyes that somehow felt like home. Then slowly, he lifted his hand, made a small gesture with his fingers, like turning an invisible page.
You blinked.
He smiled again, this time more gently. As if to say: “It’s okay. You don’t need to speak.”
And in that second, something softened inside you. A lock undone. A string gently tugged. Because he didn’t ask why you were silent. He just waited... like he already knew that one day, you might choose to say something. And if not, that was fine too.
The breeze carried his scent—warm, clean, unfamiliar. And yet… your heart whispered something different.
You wanted to ask, “Do I know you?” But instead, you just stood there, your shadow touching his.
Two strangers. One silence. And a feeling neither of you could name.
The sky dimmed above you both, smudged in shades of lavender and rose. Streetlights blinked to life, casting halos over the pavement. People passed like moving shadows, but time seemed to slow only around the two of you.
He took a step closer. You didn’t move back.
From his coat pocket, he pulled out something small—a pen. Then, carefully, he reached into his other side and tore off a page from a worn notebook, folding it in half with gentle hands. Your heart beat louder.
He scribbled something quickly, then paused, eyes flickering to yours as if to make sure it was okay. You gave the slightest nod. He turned the page toward you.
“You looked like you were somewhere else.”
Your fingers hovered over the paper, then hesitated. You couldn’t remember the last time someone gave you space without asking for anything in return. Still… you took the pen. With slow, deliberate strokes, you wrote beneath his words:
“Maybe I was.”
He read it. And he smiled again, not like before—but softer. Sadder. As if your answer meant more than you could know. He scribbled once more.
“I think I’ve seen you before.”
You froze. A chill danced down your spine. The words sat on the page like a whisper from another life. Your pen pressed to paper again.
“Where?”
He looked up at you—not the paper this time, but directly into your eyes.
“I don’t remember. But it felt… important.”
And in that silence, something inside you stirred.
A flicker of something long buried, long forgotten. A name you couldn’t say. A feeling you couldn’t place.
You didn’t write back. Not right away. Instead, you simply stood there with him, letting the silence stretch between you, not as distance—but as recognition.
He glanced down at the note between you, his fingers brushing against the edge before he folded it and slipped it back into his pocket. As if your shared words were something precious, something not meant to be lost to the wind.
Then, for the first time, he spoke. His voice was deep, gentle—like velvet brushing against glass. A quiet ripple in the stillness.
“Jeon Wonwoo,” he said simply.
The name settled into the air between you. Strangely familiar. Like you’d heard it before, maybe in a dream you couldn’t quite recall. He smiled, and this time, it held something new.
Not just softness. Not just curiosity. But a quiet promise. Then without waiting for a response, without asking for yours, he stepped back.
One foot behind the other, then a turn. His figure began to blend into the slow-moving crowd, swallowed by the hush of twilight. But just before he walked away completely, he paused, only for a second, and looked over his shoulder.
His eyes met yours again. A silent message passed between you.
“This isn’t goodbye.”
And then he walks away.
— ♬ ˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ♬ —
The days blurred together after that.
Yet his name lingered like a soft echo—Jeon Wonwoo. It repeated itself in your mind with no rhythm, no reason. Like it belonged somewhere deeper than.just a memory.
You didn’t expect to see him again. But you did.
It was raining this time. Not the kind that crashes against the pavement, but a drizzle so soft it felt like a lullaby. The world was a quiet watercolor—umbrellas blooming like flowers, footsteps muffled, streetlights blinking through the mist.
You were passing by a small bookstore tucked into the side of an old building. The kind that always smelled of paper, dust and forgotten stories. And there he was, inside the store
Sitting by the window, an open book in his hands, head slightly tilted as he read. His dark hair was damp, droplets clinging to the ends like morning dew. He looked up and saw you.
For a moment, nothing moved. Just breath caught between you and glass. Time narrowed to the space between your gazes. Then he stood. He didn’t wave. He didn’t smile, not yet. He simply opened the door to the bookstore, letting the small chime ring into the rainy air.
You stared at him. Something inside you, small, fragile, tightened. You took a step closer. He didn’t move back. Instead, he held the door open wider and gestured to the book-filled world behind him.
“Want to wait out the rain with me?”
You hesitated. Your throat ached with words you couldn’t say, but your feet moved before your thoughts could catch up.
The bell above the door gave a soft chime as it swung shut behind you. The rain tapped gently on the windows, like fingers on glass. Inside, it was warm—quiet. The scent of old paper curled around you like steam from a cup of tea.
Wonwoo didn’t speak again. And neither did you.
He simply walked a few steps forward and sat down by the window again, the book still waiting on the table. One chair, then another—he nudged it gently with his foot, just enough for you to notice.
You took the seat beside him.
It wasn’t awkward. It wasn’t even strange. It was… soft and muted. You watched the rain together.
People walked past with umbrellas, others ducked into awnings. The world outside blurred through the glass, colors bleeding into one another like a watercolor dream. Inside, it felt like time had curled in on itself, just for the two of you.
Wonwoo turned a page. Slowly. Then slid the book a little toward your side. You glanced down. The words on the paper weren’t important. Not really. It was the quiet offer behind it—you can read this too.
And so, you did.
The two of you sat there, side by side. Not a single word was spoken. But in the silence, something bloomed. A comfort. A stillness. A strange kind of trust that didn’t need to be named.
At some point, his shoulder brushed yours—just barely. He didn’t move away. And neither did you. Outside, the rain fell steadily.
Inside, the space between you felt like the beginning of something warm.
Not loud and fast. Just real.
The rain outside grew heavier, the rhythm of it now a constant hum, as if the world itself had slowed to match the quiet between you.
The book in front of you lay forgotten, its pages turning on their own, caught in the soft wind that blew through the cracks in the window. Neither of you made a move to stop it. The words seemed unimportant now, swallowed by the quiet.
You could feel it then—the pull of something unsaid. Something that wrapped itself around you, tight and gentle. It was his presence, steady, unhurried, like a lighthouse in the distance. He didn’t demand anything. He didn’t push you to speak, or to fill the silence.
For the first time in a long time, you didn’t feel the weight of having to say anything. You simply… were.
And maybe that was the point.
You looked over at him. His eyes were soft, watching the rain, but there was something deeper there—something not quite right, but not in a bad way. As though his own mind was miles away, lost in a memory you couldn’t access, yet somehow shared.
The space between you felt like a soft promise.
Without thinking, your fingers brushed the edge of the book. It was a simple touch. A question and a silent invitation.
Wonwoo’s eyes flickered down to the motion, then back to you. For a brief moment, he hesitated, before slowly and deliberately, sliding the book closer. His fingers brushed yours, and this time, the contact lingered for just a second longer than it needed to.
Neither of you said anything. You didn’t need to. The silence was enough.
He leaned back in his chair then, folding his arms behind his head, as if letting the quiet fill the space between you, to settle into something deeper. You couldn’t tell if he was waiting for you to speak, or if, like you, he was content in simply being here. With him.
The rain continued to fall, each dropping a soft note in an unspoken symphony. And still, neither of you moved.
But it was in that silence, still unbroken that something quietly shifted.
Maybe it was the way his eyes lingered just a moment too long, or how his body didn’t flinch when you shifted closer. Maybe it was the way the quiet between you didn’t feel heavy, but right. Like two halves of a whole, just existing in this small, warm moment.
Eventually, the silence grew too long to bear. But it wasn’t the kind of silence that made you want to run. It was the kind that made you want to stay, to let the moment stretch as long as it needed to.
Finally, when the rain had lightened just enough to make the world outside seem less blurred, Wonwoo spoke.
But only one word.
“Stay.”
You blinked. At first, it didn’t make sense, and yet, you knew exactly what he meant. It wasn’t a question. It wasn’t an order. It was a request, made in the quietest way possible.
And for the first time in a long while, you didn’t feel the need to run. To hide and say anything. You simply nodded.
The rain had finally stopped, its gentle patter fading into the distance. The world outside was washed clean, the air cool and fresh, a stillness settling over the city.
For a long moment, neither of you moved. You could feel the weight of the time passing. The silence between you was comfortable now, no longer heavy, but full of unspoken things.
Wonwoo glanced outside, watching the last drops fall from the trees. A sigh escaped his lips, almost imperceptible, as though the moment was slipping away.
“I should go,” he said softly, standing slowly.
You didn’t protest. The air between you was thick with unspoken words, and though you didn’t speak them, you understood.
You stood as well, almost in sync.
He didn’t offer to walk you out. You didn’t offer him anything either. Instead, he met your eyes once more, the same quiet understanding there.
“No goodbyes, then,” he murmured, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
With that, he turned and walked toward the door.
For a moment, you watched him, this stranger who didn’t feel like a stranger, who had entered your quiet world without a word.
And just before he stepped out into the damp world outside, he paused. His hand on the door, fingers brushing the cold handle, he glanced over his shoulder one last time.
His eyes met yours, and there it was again—the same silent promise, the same pull that lingered in the air.
Then, he stepped out. The door closed gently behind him.
You stood there for a while longer, the quiet still wrapping around you. The book on the table lay forgotten, the rain outside nothing more than a distant memory.
Something had shifted, something unspoken, but you didn’t chase it. You didn’t need to.
Not yet.

Deadly love!!!
Juwon was coming home from his university classes a little earlier than usual this day as he skipped along the path to his front door. He hummed his favorite song, in a good mood as he opened it and took his shoes off by the front door. “Mom I’m home” he yelled out as he shimmied more into the kitchen to grab an apple. He was about to walk past the living room when out of the corner of his eye he saw his mom on the couch. “Mom how many times have I told you-“ he paused walking in and looked around with his eyes wide. He saw his journal opened plain as day, an empty bottle of Fae alcohol and an empty bottle of prescription pills as he rushed over to her and shook her. “Mom? Mom? Wake up mom please!” He says frantically as he tried checking for a pulse. He picked up his journal and saw a note. He picked it up and read it with a gasp. Before he could react, he heard the front door open and close as he came face to face with the man he had fallen in love with. “C-cameron” he stuttered out before running onto his arms. “She’s gone, she ended everything because she read my journal. I’m so sorry”

walked a long way ( figuratively ) until he finally succumbed to his true feelings. feelings he pushed to the side a couple months ago when the news of nova’s pregnancy hit him like a ton of bricks. the decision to follow his own selfish reasons and leave her was something he came to regret greatly now. too late, juwon … too late. she probably hated him, judging by the messages she left. from her begging for him to text back, call, anything–- her crying and sobbing, saying his name like a prayer and expecting he would have a change of heart, to cursing him and his whole existence. she was going through it. scrolling through all of these messages now had made his heart a c h e but it also opened his eyes and pulled up those true feelings he so desperately tried to suppress for so long. love wins all, they say. he too cursed his own existence for making her go through all of that but it was done and he couldn’t do anything to undo it. sadly. releasing a heavy sigh, he rang the doorbell as if he was a guest when he knew the passcode. he wasn’t that full of himself to do that. he might not be welcome there anymore. glancing at the watch on his wrist, he realized it was a bit too late into the night to be doing that and was about to step away when he heard the familiar click and the door slowly opening. “ hey–- ” / @sacriifice

❛ you’re leaving already? ❜ // juwon & hana

would you ever consider turning single dad yoongi or vampire j-hope’s stories from the bts ot7 headcannon you did where they first meet y/n? i really, REALLY enjoyed those. they made me giggle and grin at work. :D
whipped
a/n. i went with dad yoongi bc GAWD DAYUM. also i’m so glad you liked them and they made you giggle… however i hope you didn’t get in trouble or something 😭 and sorry you had to wait for so long :(
ps anon is talking about this!! i changed the sons name but overall bare with me bc i don’t really like how it turned out?? enjoy tho ^^ and thank u @slytherinhobi for coming up with the kid's name teehee <3
warnings. one or two curse words

yoongi puts up the cup of coffee but barely manages to even touch it with his lips when his ringtone fills the room.
“see, i told you…” he scoffs looking at his friends, seokjin and hoseok but his voice dies out. yoongi reaches for his phone, putting down the cup hurriedly.
his friends exchanged looks, shaking their heads.
“oh. i understand, of course. i’ll pick him up in an hour. thank you. good bye” yoongi was speaking softly and then hung up, sighing.
“again?” hobi asked, amused smile on his lips “dude, just do what namjoon said”
“whatever. you want to go with me? he’ll be happy to see you” yoongi asked, taking a sip of his coffee and stood up lazily.
“of course! as his favourite fun uncle–” seokjin stood up, stretching dramatically.
“yah! i’m his favourite uncle–!”
“who said that?”
“me!”
“you…!”
the sound of doors closing made them rush to them, not wanting to miss a meeting with their friend’s son.

namjoon was right. and so were all of his friends.
he should get a babysitter.
so here he was, with juwon on his lap as they skimmed through the site. his 5 year old son kept squirming, the task starting to get boring.
“him?” yoongi asked, pointing at a guy with blonde hair. juwon shook his head as a no. his dad sighed, looking at the small copy of him. suddenly juwon’a eyes blinked with excitement.
“papa!” he grinned, touching the screen of his laptop (even though yoongi said thousand times not to, but let it slide because he has a soft spot for him)
“someone caught your eye?” the older min let out a chuckle and ruffled his son’s hair, his voice got stuck in his throat as his eyes landed upon the person.
“y/s y/n” juwon read your name out loud and grabbed his dad’s hand that was on the computer mouse, clicking the read more button.
“y/s y/n” yoongi repeated, not able to take off eyes from the picture of you. he never believed in love at first sight, even his juwon’s mom.
but you… you just had something enchanting. the way you were smiling softly on the picture, e/c eyes sparkling with joy.
“papa, she’s almost as old as you!” the boy giggled, wrapping arms around his dad’s neck.
“you spend too much time with uncle jungkook, youngster. i’m not old” yoongi scoffed, looking at your information.
26, worked before in daycares and even primary school, finished studies, et cetera et cetera. loves kids, music, autumn…
“can she be my aunt?” juwon asks quietly, bringing yoongi back to reality “she’s really pretty…”
“aunt? oh, you mean nanny? of course. i’ll give her a call but you’ll go to bed, alright?” yoongi asked, voice soft.
“m’kay! will you come give me a hug later?” juwon blinked. yoongi nodded, ruffling his hair before picking up his phone to make a call.
suddenly he realised he’s nervous.
why is he though? it’s just a call to ask if you’re willing to watch over juwon. just a call.
a call with a pretty girl.
god, he needs to focus.
yoongi closed his laptop and rung, looking at the clock. it was 9pm, which is kind of late but…
“hello?” your voice made him go weak in the knees. suddenly you yawned and giggled and oh god, it was the cutest giggle he’d ever heard “sorry, i was asleep…”
“oh no, it’s fine! did i wake you up? i apologise” he cleared his throat, words suddenly flowing out of his mind. there was a moment of silence before you spoke up.
“i’m guessing you’re calling in regards to the job announcement…?” you ask hesitantly "at least i'm hoping so..."
“yes. if you’re available, of course. could we have a trial week?” yoongi hummed, leaning down to pick up a cookie plushie that juwon must have left behind.
“oh. yes, of course! how old is your kid, mr…?” you smiled and he could clearly hear it. focus, yoongi.
“juwon is five. i’ll send you the address through text. is next monday okay?” he asked.
“mhm”
“great. see you soon then” yoongi said.
“yeah. good night, mr juwon’s dad” you let out a little chuckle
“good night” yoongi nodded and quickly hung up, his heart beating like crazy. he had a feeling that he forgot about something.
whilst caressing his hair anxiously he stepped into juwon’s bedroom with a subconscious grin.

after the weekend here you were, hesitantly looking around in front of the fancy door. you took a deep breath and knocked, the sound of feet suddenly running around making you smile.
“juwon, don’t–!”
the door opened and you grinned upon seeing a small boy standing in them. he was tightly hugging a cookie plushie, looking at you with his brown eyes wide.
“hi” you smiled sweetly but the boy backed out and hid behind his dad’s legs. you looked up and couldn’t smile at how alike they were, almost 1:1. this kid was literally his copy. they were staring at you with their mouth open, which made you grin.
“hi” yoongi breathed out, his heart beating like crazy against his rib cage. pull yourself together, he thought.
“can i come in?” you asked, the chilly wind whistling in the background making yoongi realise he’s staring.
“of course, sorry. do you want something to drink?” yoongi asked, letting you in.
you took off your shoes and coat, both mins looking at you in awe. you tried your best to stop the blush from creeping on your cheeks.
“tea, if you don’t mind. what’s your name?” you asked juwon softly, even though you knew the answer. he looked at his dad hesitantly and when he just nodded with the softest smile ever, you knew you’re in trouble.
“juwon” he mumbled and ran away off to this room. yoongi smiled politely and gestured you to sit down.
“he’s… like me. as much as i find it adorable, he has problems with socialising at the daycare” yoongi sighed, reaching for a cup.
“i see. it’s not a bad thing though. some kids are more introverted and others are just making new friends everyday” you nodded.
“i know. but since he doesn’t like daycare, i won’t pressure him. hence you” yoongi gave you a steaming cup of tea.
“thank you, mr min” you said and watched his eyes widen a little.
“no need to be so formal. call me yoongi, please” he smiled politely and took a glance at the clock “ah, i have to go. please call me if there’s a problem”
“of course, yoongi” you hummed and he froze while reaching for his bag “have a nice day!”
“t-thank you” the man stuttered and you could swear his ears were tinted with pink.

a week passed way too fast. you had a lot of fun with juwon, even though he was still opening up to you.
when it came to his dad, you were going insane. min yoongi was driving you absolutely crazy (even though he was leaving the house once you arrived and sending you back home the moment he was back) but you felt a bit… guilty. what if he’s married? sure, he doesn’t have a wedding ring but some people don’t wear it, right? or maybe he has a girlfriend? however you didn’t see any pictures of him and a woman placed around a house. on the other hand, he had a lot of pictures framed of him and his friends. what if one of his friends is actually his boyfriend?
it was lazy evening on a saturday night… well, actually it was nearly midnight when juwon yawned obnoxiously loud and made you turn back to reality.
“you’re tired, huh?” you scoffed quietly and shook your head, looking at the tv. normally you would just come by monday-friday but yoongi called and asked if you can watch over juwon on saturday because he was pressured to meet with his friends (by them, against his will).
so here you were, watching cartoons with juwon and his plush friend, shooky.
juwon suddenly clung onto you, his small hands wrapping around your waist.
“‘m sleepy” he mumbled, placing shooky on your tummy.
“me too” you hummed, turning off the tv. the living room turned dark, only lit up by the weak moonlight peeking from behind the window.
“‘m too tired to go to bed” the boy added. you let out a gentle laugh, not to disturb him and put a blanket over you two.
“it’s okay. good night” you whispered and ruffled his hair before closing your eyes.
you’ll just rest your eyelids for a bit and then carry him to bed, duh.
but before you realised you started dozing off as well.
you didn't catch the sound of door opening and keys clanking but you did hear a soft, quiet sigh followed by a gentle laugh.
“aich, so cute” yoongi mumbled upon seeing you two asleep. his heart was beating a little too hard against his rib cage.
he didn’t realise he was staring until juwon moved in his sleep, shooky falling on the ground.
“shit, i’m whipped” yoongi grunted and reached down for the plushie, failing to notice the smile that bloomed on your lips.

question for people who know more about K-drama than I do, I’ve tried googling this but I just can’t hit the right search terms to get an actual answer
Is there a way of writing the names that is more correct than others? For example, I’ve seen all of the following:
Han Joo Won
Han Joowon
Han Joo-Won
Han Joo-won
Are all of these basically correct? Does it matter? If I was going to start writing fanfic for a certain K-drama I’d want to be sure I got it right
Also, I know that in Chinese, you always want to include the full name in the prose, ie, it’s always ‘Wei Wuxian did such-and-such’ and never just ‘Wuxian did such-and-such’. Does the same thing apply to Korean? Would it always be ‘Han Juwon did such-and-such’ or would ‘Juwon did such-and-such’ be acceptable in the prose? (I’m talking about the prose only, dialogue is obviously different, both in C-drama and K-drama.)
Also also sometimes the syllable seems to be Americanized in different ways, ie Ju vs. Joo, Hyeok vs. Hyuk - does that matter or is either way fine?
And since you put up with all these questions, anyway, here have a snippet which I have written without knowing the answer to any of them:
Lee Dong-Sik sighed. “Don’t take it so hard, Joo-Won-ah. You already knew he was a terrible person. The fact that he’s a hypocrite on top of it shouldn’t be so much of a surprise. He took his own shortcomings out on you for your whole life, and sure, you’re fucked up, but you’re hardly the only one around here who is. If you weren’t so fucked up, I wouldn’t like you as much.”
He wasn’t really thinking about what he was saying, just wanting Han Joo-Won to relax and stop having an existential crisis so they could sleep, but Han Joo-Won turned to him with a somewhat incredulous expression on his face. Even in the dim light filtering in through the curtains from the streetlight outside, it was obvious. “You like me?”
That made Lee Dong-Sik laugh. He pinched Han Joo-Won’s cheek and said, “You’re surprised?”
“I’m wondering what it looks like when you don’t like someone.”
