WIP excerpt for inkwell behind the cut; “Billy and Damian and the whole soulmate thing”. (( chrono || non-chrono ))
Like–except Robin, obviously. Robin doesn’t deserve him being spiteful. Robin deserves, like, a nice wedding with Nightwing as his best man and Red Robin, like, definitely invited but maybe seated at a table off to the side behind a tactically-placed floral arrangement or twelve and also whatever Robin likes to eat on the menu, which Billy admittedly doesn’t actually know yet and probably needs to figure out. Though then again, if he’s running away from the Justice League and/or Batman’s weird seventeen-bedroomed house until he’s eighteen, Robin’s tastes are probably gonna change a bit, so maybe he should just wait on that so he can be sure he’s getting it right and all?
Ugh. Billy really doesn’t wanna have to run away from the Justice League until he’s eighteen. Especially not Batman. Batman’s really good at finding people, so he’s basically just gonna have to hide out at the Rock of Eternity for like the whole time, and that is so long and is gonna get so boring so quick.
Ugh. Ughhh. Ugh.
“Where was that? Laws about supplying alcohol to a minor vary significantly from state to state,” Batman says as Flash slithers to the floor with an actual moan. Billy glowers at him. He is still not forgiving him just ‘cuz he’s funny. “And felony charges can apply to repeat offenders."
. . . alright, Batman’s really funny. But still, dammit!
“Bats, I really don’t think accidentally buying a drink for a magically-disguised minor three years ago is the relevant concern here,” Green Lantern says in exasperation.
“You said you took him to multiple bars,” Batman says, just barely tilting his head. “Was that the only time any of you bought him a drink?”
“I–you–he looks like forty!” Green Lantern protests. Flash just stays on the floor.
Batman raises an eyebrow behind his mask, then looks over at Billy and looks him over; then looks back to Green Lantern with a very telling expression. Green Lantern sputters indignantly.
“Stop being funny, asshole, I’m still gonna be mad even if you are,” Billy grumbles at Batman, who just makes the same little “hm” noise he always does when he’s feeling particularly smug about a joke he’s made. Billy scowls at him on principle.
Asshole. Geez, like Billy’s new here or something.
“Father, this is hardly professional behavior,” Robin says, giving Batman a withering look.
“God, I will never understand what kids even think Bats is saying,” Green Arrow mutters under his breath, half-covering his face with a hand and eyeing Robin through his fingers. “Listen, Cap–Billy–”
“Excuse you?” Billy asks, scowling at him instead. “You think we’re on a first-name basis while you guys are threatening me?”
“Listen, brat, I am also a licensed foster parent, and Star is closer to Fawcett than Gotham is, so I in fact am threatening you,” Green Arrow retorts, narrowing his eyes at him. “And there’s eight bedrooms in my house.”
“That is not a house!” Billy says. “That’s literally not a house, that’s like a hotel! Why do none of you just have houses?!”
“A motel, perhaps,” Robin drawls, eyeing Green Arrow disdainfully.
“I am not living with anyone, I’m fine,” Billy emphasizes with a glower. “I’ve been fine all this time, haven’t I?”
“. . . Billy,” Superman says, looking stressed. “How long have you been homeless, exactly?”
“Since I was like seven,” Billy says, since he doesn’t count any of the in-and-out foster care nonsense as not being homeless, considering. That’d just been a bunch of shitty places he’d had to sneak out of or run away from, not actually anywhere he’d ever really lived. Mostly he’d slept in abandoned buildings or alleys or parks, ‘cuz it’d been safer. “So I’m fine, obviously.”
“Since you were seven,” Superman repeats, looking stressed.
“That’s what I said,” Billy says in exasperation, folding his arms again and glowering at him. “And I didn’t even have superpowers then and still took care of myself fine, so I’m double-fine now, actually.”
Superman puts his face in his hands, for some reason. Black Canary pats his back sympathetically.
Billy does not think Superman deserves sympathy right now.

I think if we’re going to tackle the “Dick wanted to send Tim to Arkham” demonizing Dick, woobifying Tim bs we also have to tackle the “Dick put Jason in Arkham at the same time the Joker was there and Jason was traumatized by it” demonizing Dick, woobifying Jason bs, because they stem from the same place with the same goal and they’re both completely non-canon
I mean...you're right and you should say it.
(General Warning for Tony Daniel's and Grant Morrison's shitty Jason characterization that created this situation in the first place. You have been warned)
Okay, so like...every time 'Dick sent Jason to Arkham!' discourse pops up, I always want to remind people of four things:
The Joker wasn't there. Literally. The Joker. Was. Not. There. Jason never interacted with the Joker, he never saw the Joker, he was never once in the Joker's presence during this arc. It didn't happen.
Jason being sent to Arkham rather than somewhere like Blackgate was explicitly for Jason's own self-protection, because he would have been flat-out murdered in a normal prison (and in fact, he nearly was the second he was transferred). Jason being in Arkham was Dick's personal preference because it meant Jason had an actual chance at rehabilitation rather than being shanked the second he walked out of his cell. However, Dick didn’t actually send him there. That’s just where he ended up.
Jason's canonical actions at the time justified his incarceration at a prison facility specifically geared towards working with criminals with poor mental health rather than being left to the 'normal' prison system.
Dick was actively working to improve Arkham's conditions and spent several issues in various comics dismantling its corrupt leadership and practices (though it's not stated, it's implied that he was so dedicated to it because of his own experiences when he was trapped, drugged, and tortured there during Batman RIP). This was explicitly shown on several occasions, and we're also explicitly shown that Jason is genuinely being helped. He doesn't want to be helped and said help is so-so at being effective (because...Morrison), but he was hardly being tortured or shut away in a straitjacket 24/7.
The big things I always want to remind people is that a) Joker was literally never in Arkham at the same time as Jason (he was free and causing mayhem around Gotham during Jason's Arkham arc) and b) Jason was incredibly unstable during this arc. You all have to understand that at the time Dick handed Jason over to Gordon, Jason had JUST been waltzing around as a killer Batman and nearly killed Tim (again) in Battle for the Cowl. In the story where he was arrested, he was casually murdering criminals and uploading pics of their dead bodies to social media with his new teen sidekick. This isn't a situation where Dick was just like "well he's a villain and villains go to Arkham." Jason was doing some incredibly messed up stuff and basically dared Dick to take him on while doing so.
Jason's actions weren't particularly in character during this arc, but Dick had pretty legitimate reasons for thinking so given his words/actions in Battle for the Cowl; it's not like the decision was made on a whim. Also, a lot of people maliciously misrepresent both how much of a say Dick had in where Jason was placed and his perspective on Jason in general. He was both genuinely trying to help Jason and constrained by what he could do with Gordon standing right there:
"Look at yourself, Jason. You're a mess. Everything's a mess. Stop all this...and let us help you." "Help me? It's...too late for me, Grayson. And it was always too late." -Batman and Robin (2009) #6
Dick handed Jason over to Gordon, and the legal system put him in Arkham over Blackgate because of the danger he posed. However, Dick actually petitioned for Arkham over a normal prison not because he agreed with that assessment, but because Jason wouldn't be safe in Blackgate. Dick even says this to Bruce when Jason (who's scheming up a prison break) puts in a transfer request to a regular prison:
"He won't be safe in a conventional prison...there will be a list of enemies a mile long locked up in there with him. Unless he's in twenty-four hour protective custody, all he'll be doing is fending off attacks. Why would he put himself at such risk?" -Batman and Robin (2009) #23
So does Bruce, by the way, though he's uh...characteristically blunt and Batman-y about it:
"You're in Arkham for your own safety." -Batman and Robin (2009) #23
And Dick does try to make sure Jason's in an environment where he can be helped; again, Dick spends a lot of time during his tenure as Batman specifically and explicitly cleaning up the corruption in and around Arkham's administration and making sure the Asylum treats its inmates fairly and with compassion; it's the entire plot of the Arkham Reborn mini, and we also get a couple of Batman issues dedicated to it as he tracked down and turned in Dr. Jeremiah Arkham, the then-Head of Arkham Asylum.
Dick spent basically all of Jason's time in Arkham worried about Jason's safety...and he was right to, by the way; when Jason's transfer request is approved, he does, in fact, spend basically all of his time trying not to get killed (he also killed around 100 people in his prison break scheme so again: this version of Jason was absolutely not in a place where he should have been allowed to participate in general society. This is not post-Flashpoint!Jason, whose story and personality was drastically softened to "rebel with a cause" as DC fully committed to the anti-hero direction; this is full-on Villain!Jason at his worst).
Since Jason basically disappears after his prison break and retrieval of Scarlet and we don't see him again before the reboot, we have no idea if his time in Arkham helped him (if at all); however, it's implied that he still doesn't feel much remorse for his actions and he's ready to continue wreaking havoc on Gotham.
Morrison's characterization was fucked up, but within the context of the story written, Jason's incarceration in Arkham was both justified and a genuine attempt on Dick's part to keep him safe and get him help. Jason's actions were well beyond anything considered moral acceptability and basically put Dick in an impossible situation without a lot of options (said options were "Arkham or Blackgate," not "Arkham or freedom").
Jason wasn't a victim (either of Dick's supposedly unjustified decision to "put him in Arkham" or of any particularly awful treatment while he was there) and Dick weighed in to the best of his ability in order to make sure Jason was safe while incarcerated and surrounded by people who would genuinely do their best to help him. Any attempt to twist Dick's actions to be otherwise is an active misrepresentation of what canonically happened designed to woobify Jason and villainize Dick for no reason.

Please tell us more about a town it sounds great. (Also, Jordan and Sarah probably watch that. I can just imagine Rachel's reaction to suddenly getting it after being forced to watch half an episode one afternoon with no context)
Okay, so! Other headcanons about A-Town, the shitty postwar sitcom based on Jake Berenson's life (to Jake Berenson's eternal annoyance):
The love triangles have love triangles. Trina (the main character's cooler and more competent cousin) is constantly dating Liam, only to cheat on him with J.J., only to start dating J.J., only to cheat on J.J. with Liam. Jordan's of the opinion that girl should just get herself two boyfriends, but of course then the show would run out of plot.
Gina, Liam's stepsister and the Ax stand-in, is so friggin weird if you pay close enough attention. It's probably just a side effect of bad continuity, but at various times she a) implies she's over 300 years old, b) has various lines that imply she's an andalite in morph c) has various lines that imply she's a yeerk in morph, d) apparently killed a visser off-screen through means so horrifying they can't be described, e) can reprogram computers by licking them, and f) may or may not have eaten Liam's aunt, depending on how ironic certain lines are meant to be.
Sort of like Batman and Robin having exposition-conversations as they walk up the side of a building, most episodes will have a scene with the actors doing a voiceover overtop footage of two or three pigeons sitting on a power line. The most popular clip of the show on YouTube is the one where the "Crystal" pigeon visibly takes a shit midway through a tearful love confession to "Brandon." (Spoiler alert: she cheated on him with Liam.)
The alien controlling Daisy, Brandon's sister, is named Zeptron 420. One of the stranger B plots involves Zeptron falling in love with a banana slug, carrying it around, writing it bad poetry, and eventually trying to stuff it into the ear of a cow so that they can be together forever. The slug falls out and the cow accidentally tramples it; Zeptron is heartbroken, at least until the post-credit scene where we now see her falling in love with a freshwater eel.

Achilles Come Down by Gang of Youths- Tim Drake
TW: attempted su*c*de/su*c*dal thoughts, anxiety, depression.
a/n: hey remember in the Master when I said these would be short fics? Ha. Yeah. Me too. Good times.
Tag list: @river9noble
Master
“Achilles, Achilles, Achilles come down/Won’t you get up off, get up off the roof?/You’re scaring us and all of us/Some of us love you/Achilles it’s not much but there’s proof.”
“You may feel no purpose/Nor a point for existing/It’s all just conjecture and gloom/And there may not be meaning/So find one and seize it/Do not waste yourself on this roof/Hear those bells ring deep in the soul/Chiming away for a moment/Feel your breath course frankly below/And see life as a worthy opponent.”
Tim stood on the edge of the building, overlooking the city. His cape billowed lightly in the cool air, and he took a deep breath.
‘Red Robin, report.’ Barbra’s voice asked in his ear.
Tim remained silent, his eyes scanning the streets, but his mind far away.
‘Red Robin, report.’ She repeated.
‘Red Robin, are you okay?’
A new voice broke onto the comms.
Dick.
He had been thinking a lot. About Dick. And Damian. Bruce. Steph. Babs. Duke. Luke. Cass. Kate even. There were just… so many of them. So many. One less surely wouldn’t matter?
He imagined he wouldn’t get a huge memorial like the one for Jason in the batcave- he was choosing this, he did it himself, there was no honour in that. He didn’t mind though, he wasn’t sure he even cared to be remembered.
They barely remembered him alive, why would death help?
He wondered how long it would take them to forget him. The voice is the first thing you forget about a person, when was the last time he talked to them all?
‘Red Robin, where are you?’ Dick.
‘Is his comm offline?’ Steph.
‘No, it’s online. It should be working. Receiver and all.’ Barbra.
‘Red Robin?’ Dick.
He looked down. He’d survived some pretty unlikely things, but this was too much. Too high. There was no way his heart could take his fall, let alone the pavement below waiting for his body. It called his name, whispering the promises of sweet relief with every breeze, the streetlight spotlight marking his entrance to his final bow.
‘Can you get his tracker online?’ Dick.
‘Red Robin, come in.’ Bruce.
‘No. He’s bypassed the security.’ Barbra.
‘Really Drake?’ Damian. ‘Sneaking off during patrol?’
‘Red Robin, report.’ Bruce- and Tim imagined he sounded worried in the way only Batman could be.
‘Where was his route?’ Dick.
Tim tuned them out, but couldn’t bring himself to turn the comms off completely. He didn’t have the heart to be alone- he was selfish and desperate.
He shrugged off the cape, letting it fall to the rooftop, and quietly unclipped his utility belt. He wished he felt scared, or sad, or anything, but instead he just felt numb. Human instinct should be trying to get him back safely to the solid roof behind him, but instead he just swayed in the wind, as if even his own body was impartial to the decision.
He closed his eyes and sighed quietly, rolling his shoulders back, resigning to his fate. There was no use in fighting anymore.
That was it. He felt something. Tired.
Not just tired. Exhausted. Bone deep exhaustion, the kind of exhaustion that made even sleeping a chore. Tears gathered in his eyes, and with each drop his mask got looser and looser. He thought of something to say- some sort of goodbye. Not for them, but for him, for closure. His own eulogy. Last words, maybe?
Did he deserve last words when the villain he lost to was his own mind? Internal, eternal, and inevitable? It was a dance he’d been a part of for far too long and he was just tired.
“Hey Replacement.”
Tim expected his whole body to go rigid, for his instinct to take over, for any kind of fight to bubble up inside him, itching to get out. He and Jason reconciled, sure, but sometimes when he caught him off guard, Tim still had the same knee-jerk reaction.
Instead, his body just stood there, open and unarmed. It solidified his resolve- even his instincts knew it was over. The idea that Jason could easily shoot him, or push him off the roof didn’t scare him.
Why would it?
He could hear Jason’s quiet, heavy steps as the older boy approached.
‘Red Hood, status, have you found him?’
Dick’s voice came over the comms.
Tim didn’t look at Jason. There was a soft click.
“No, not yet. I’ll keep looking. Just cover my area Dickhead.” Jason said before the soft click happened again.
The two boys were quiet for a minute.
Behind him, Tim could hear the familiar whirring of the mechanics- mechanics he helped design -that indicated the removal of Jason’s Red Hood helmet. A thump after indicated Jason had opted to ditch it on the roof.
Normally, Tim would yell at him for being so careless with his equipment, especially since Tim worked hard on the last updates, but he couldn’t even find his voice.
He heard the clatter of weapons hitting the ground, and Jason stepped closer.
“Come on Timmy,” Jason said softly, and Tim’s chest tightened at the nickname. “You’re shaking. You gotta be freezing.”
It wasn’t until Jason said something that Tim realized he was vibrating. Even the air was unforgiving in Gotham, and somewhere between his decision to step on the ledge and the loss of his cape, it turned into an icy grip that cut through the thin material of his suit.
The wind stung his face where the tears had started to slip beneath his mask. His knees buckled and he sucked in a sharp breath of air.
“I can’t.” He choked out, his hand gripping at his chest. “I- I can’t move.”
‘Red Robin?’ Dick’s voice cut through the comms. ‘Come on buddy, where are you, I’ll come get you.’
Tim couldn’t hear him over the roar of his own blood in his ears, and took his comm out of his ear, throwing it off to the side.
It was then he caught sight of Jason, and was shocked by the lack of not only helmet, but mask as well. Jason’s eyes had a green shine to them- a side effect of the pit -and they were trained on Tim.
Jason held out his hand to Tim. “Take my hand baby bird.” He murmured.
“No,” Tim cried. “I want- I should- I have to- I’m going to fall Jason-”
“No.” Jason said sternly. “No you won’t.”
Tim inched closer to the ledge. “It doesn’t matter-”
“Of course it matters dipshit, you matter. I wouldn’t be here if you didn’t.”
Tim’s lip trembled and a sob tore from his throat as his knees gave out from under him and for a split second he was falling-
And the next he was wrapped in a tight hug.
Tim reached out instinctually and grabbed onto whatever he could hold, staying as close as possible to the smell of leather, gun polish and sweat, a surprisingly comforting combination.
Maybe it was just because it meant safety.
“I’ve got you baby bird,” Jason mumbled, and he could feel Jason bury his nose in Tim’s hair. “I’ve got you.”
“I’m sorry,” He sputtered through his tears. “I’m sorry, Jay, I’m sorry,” A whole new breakdown washed over him, and he couldnt get a grip on his emotions.
“You have nothing to apologize for,” Jason scolded him lightly, and rubbed little circles on his back. “I’ve got you.”
“I was going to do it,” Tim cried.
“I know.” Jason whispered.
“They hate me. They’re going to hate me more!” Tim whimpered. “I can’t- I don’t want-”
“I know.” Jason repeated. “But no one hates you, Tim,” He promised. “Hell, even Barbra threatened to get out here to find you.”
Tim buried his face in Jason’s chest and just stayed there. “I’m nothing more than a placeholder,” He mumbled. “I’m a pretender. A replacement.” He sniffled. “I didn’t- I didn’t even want to be Robin. God. I wanted Dick to be Robin. Batman needs Robin.” He was close to hysterics, and god Jason still didn’t know what to do.
“Maybe,” Jason agreed. “But Bruce Wayne needs Tim Drake.” Jason said quietly. “I’m pretty sure the old man would be lost without you Timmy.”
Tim shook his head and Jason snorted. “You set up the system in the batcave, make sure the Wayne business is intact and running smoothly, you’ve updated all the security, you always make sure there’s coffee in the manor, and no one makes him smile with bad jokes like you do.”
Tim stayed quiet, and Jason alternated between rubbing his back and running his hand through Tim’s hair. The boys stood there for as long as Tim needed to and Jason realized how small Tim was because Jesus Christ this was just a kid in a costume and he just wanted to be loved.
“Can we go back to the Manor?” Jason murmured. “My bike’s not far.”
Tim didn’t move.
“We can watch a movie?” He suggested. “I’ll let you pick.”
“Why are you being so nice?” Tim mumbled.
“Well… I could punch you instead if you’d like. Not sure that’ll make you feel better though.” He offered, and was rewarded by the smallest, quietest laugh. “C’mon, we can raid the kitchen.”
“You aren’t going to make me talk?” Tim asked.
Jason shook his head, tightening his grip on him. “I’m not going to make you talk about anything you don’t want to baby bird.” He said softly. “But if you want to do that, I’m here for that too.”
Tim tightened his own grip and kept close- Jason was keeping him grounded and that’s all that mattered. “What was it like?” He whispered.
Jason was quiet for a long moment, and Tim regretted asking almost immediately.
“Long.” Jason decided. “Dark. Quiet.”
“Good quiet?”
“No.” Jason said softly. “Too quiet.”
“I’m sorry.” Tim whispered.
“Me too,” Jason mumbled. “You’re not alone Timbo. I’m right here, alright?”
Tim nodded and pulled away after a moment when he felt like he could stand on his own. Jason collected their things and handed Tim his mask, cape and belt, putting his own mask and helmet back on, clipping his holsters on.
The ride back was quiet- Tim’s comm must have busted when it hit the roof, and if Jason heard anything he wasn’t giving it away. Jason came up with some half-assed lie about what happened to Barbra and the other Bats over the comms, and immediately claimed the living room for him and Tim, heading upstairs.
Tim was asleep by the end of the opening credits, tucked safely into the side of his big brother.
Maybe Tim couldn’t fight the villain in his head on his own, but having someone like Jason Todd on your side certainly made it easier.

How do you think the Dork Squad acts when they're jealous? Thanks!
Jonathan Crane:
One simply does not see Jonathan Crane jealous… right?
WRONG
It is staggeringly obvious that the man is jealous
Whenever he’s around the subject causing such jealousy, his grip tightens around whatever he’s holding, his posture tenses, and his usual condescending resting face contorts into something almost inhuman
His usual glare has now been one-upped with an absolutely terrifying glower
One time, he was in the mood mentioned above when confronted by Batman; Batman retreated and decided to deal with Jonathan another day
On the flip side, his object of affections is suddenly being showered with more attention than they’ve ever gotten from Jonathan
And this… isn’t necessarily a convenient thing…
“Oh, you’re about to go grab a coffee? What a coincidence, I was just thinking of getting some myself! Would you like to go together?”
When he gets mad at the subject of rivalry (madder than he already is, anyway), he just smiles
Not in a condescending or threatening way, just… a smile
And that, my friends, is petrifying
In the end, the rival gets chased off one way or another
Because no one is going to take what’s his
Edward Nygma:
Straight up Riddler Trap™
I’m thinking maybe more of a gameshow direction, with him as the host + first contestant and the rival as the other contestant
Oh??? You think you can steal what’s his???!!??!? Bet you can’t beat him in THE RIDDLE FACTORY™!
The subject of affections gets to be the special guest (and only) judge
All the riddles are either a) about the subject of affections, b) an insult to the rival, or c) a compliment to Eddie himself
Ed’s just sending an unending onslaught of verbal insults towards the rival the entire time
Like, can it get any more obvious??? He is angry and he is jealous, now back off from his enigma!
Also, he starts boosting his ego more than he usually does; which is a lot
You thought his usual shows of ego were annoying? Boy are you in for a treat!
The audience consisting of kidnapped civilians and curious rogues are getting bored already
Like, we get it, Ed, you want to prove to your subject of affections you’re better than your rival, but what do we have to do with this
And the collective audience probably hates the fact that the rival isn’t backing off, because just surrender already we’ve got shit to do
Little do they know the rival’s being blackmailed into taking all this abuse
So everyone’s going to be there for a while
When Batman tries to interrupt the gameshow, Ed gets him trapped and starts boasting about that to his object of affections
I like to think Batman got caught but Robin didn’t; but Robin’s genuinely into the show so he’s cheering for Edward in the audience and Batman is just so done
The only other people who are actually into it are Jonathan (he’s going to hang this over Edward’s head for all eternity) and Harley (the Rogue Matchmaker)
Jervis Tetch:
I mean, we’ve seen Jerv jealous before, that’s kind of his whole thing (especially in BTAS)
He’s just so pouty about everything
Suddenly, he sticks around his subject of affections like a lost puppy
If questioned, he just apologises and then continues sticking around like nothing happened
When he sees the subject of rivalry, he immediately switches from lost puppy to guard dog
He’s really polite and gentlemanly on the outside, but on the inside he’s just plotting 101 Ways to Be Rid of Your Rival™
And unless you know Jervis really really really well, you won’t be able to tell the difference
He starts complimenting his subject of affections non-stop while making intelligently subtle jabs at his rival that make it seem like the rival’s source of growing self-doubt isn’t stemming from him
So mind games
Ed’s salty he didn’t come up with the whole ‘growing self-doubt’ bit first until Jon reminds him he was too busy boosting his own ego instead
To those who’ve read my last post, remember when I said Jervis would start giving his crush things from roses to cookies? Imagine that with the subject of affections, and then multiply that by 5000
His subject of affections is getting so much stuff they don’t even know where to put it anymore
It’s both annoying and endearing the whole time

for the character headcannons ask game, jason and cass?
ALRIGHT ALRIGHT im putting this one under a cut because it got SUPER long bc i cant shut up ever
lets start w jason
A (realistic headcanon):
ok using the ‘realistic’ category here loosely but GOD i love the idea of Damian & Jason having interacted while Jason was staying with the League before getting dunked in the Lazarus Pit. like. this obviously would need to be set more in preboot and following the Lost Days & Batman Annual 25 version of Jason’s resurrection, but god the idea of it just makes me scream in a good way. Like... these are things Jason likely doesn’t remember very clearly once he’s brought back to life more fully by the pit because he was uh pretty catatonic, but Damian being a little kid and knowing about the boy that his mother keeps around the base, that she’s trying to help bring back to health. Damian not even knowing that’s his big brother, just that he’s a presence that shares his mother’s attention. Jason again being unresponsive but like, ok god you know that part of lost days where Talia shows the others observing him that he only fights back at those he perceives as genuine threats trying to hurt him,
Because Jason can perceive that she’s safe, she’s not actually trying to hurt him, he trusts her because she saved him? thinking about lil child Damian who is ya know already being trained in fighting stuff and like the idea of him trying to provoke Jason just to see what happens but Jason not fighting back because on some level be it his connection to Talia or even little baby Damian visually reminding him of Bruce, he knows that Damian is safe too 🥺
and then when Jason and Damian meet again in Gotham as Red Hood & Robin respectively, Jason not really remembering because there was so much going on back then for him, but Damian realizing that oh... that was Him
B (hilarious):
alright so if we are looking at comics currently, in modern stuff jason is what, like 22? hes old enough to drink in the US but still definitely early 20s so around my around my age, thats what im using as a basis here. if we adjust timeline and still consider his death having happened when he was 15, that puts it around 2013. and then coming back to like interacting with people about three years later if we still kinda base things off of the preboot timeframe (since we never got a super solid retelling of the timeline of death -> resurrection -> training -> tries to get revenge aside from knowing he went to the all-caste instead of the lost days version of the story) making him reenter the regular world and stuff around age 18 in 2016. meaning a solid three years of pop culture that he was entirely missing, and like im sorry but he really doesn’t strike me as the type to bother looking into what he missed, he’s kinda busy focusing on other stuff. lets take a quick look at some major things from those years. 2013 gave us ‘what does the fox say’ and ‘the harlem shake’ . 2014 had that time U2 just put a fuckin album on everyone’s phones, The Fault In Our Stars movie came out. 2015 introduced the phrase ‘Netflix and Chill’ and the whole blue & black vs gold & white dress debate happened. imagine any of the other batkids (or even arguably roy during rhato stuff) bringing these things up and jason’s ensuing confusion. thank you for your time
C (heart-crushing):
so. there are two specific instances from rebirth era Jason i want to bring up here and much like a lot of these it’s less a headcanon and more of an inference based on observations, but i wanna take a sec to discuss Jason’s relationship with other people’s death. early in rebirth, Tim ‘dies’ from that whole thing in detective comics. he didn’t actually die, we as readers know, but in-universe they all very much so thought he was dead. frustratingly a lot of the batfam wasn’t really shown mourning him aside from in the Detective Comics Rebirth title itself (which just. when a major character dies even if its temporary- that should have a ripple effect) BUT an exception to that is in RHATO 2016, where we get this offhanded comment in Jason’s internal monologuing
similarly later when Roy, who like, had an incredibly close relationship w Jason that had just gotten mended before Heroes in Crisis, gets fuckin murdered in that whole thing... Jason doesn’t go to his funeral either. He leaves a dramatic voice mail and then visits the grave on his own later, choosing to instead keep working on the mission they’d started rather than going and taking the time to mourn properly.
Jason’s relationship with death is incredibly complicated, obviously. He has died, he has come back, and he now is willing to cross the line most other bats won’t and will kill people when he deems it necessary. I think thats something important though- he doesn’t just like... go around killing for fun (usually, some writers preboot made him a little murder happy but even then usually this still was vaguely followed) he kills people he thinks deserved it. Like, even looking back at the mess of Morrison’s Jason during Batman & Robin 2009, Jason was still trying to bring a sense of justice with who he was killing (”punishment that fits the crime”), it wasn’t killing for the sake of killing. He sees things in this kind of almost black and white ‘people who deserve it’ and ‘people who don’t’ way, and he has no problem dealing with death when it’s with the people he thinks deserve it.
but when someone who doesn’t in his mind ‘deserve it’ gets killed? i think he just goes into total avoidance mode. throws himself into other things he’s doing, tries not to dwell on it too much no matter how much he still thinks about it (this is especially evident in him consistently telling people “i’m fine!” after what happened to Roy, despite bringing Roy up literally like every few issues for a WHILE after he died and very clearly still struggling with it, Artemis is the only one who gets through to him on it a little bit)
but yeah, I just think that from Jason’s relatively unique situation of having been murdered, he knows what it’s like and he is perfectly fine wishing that on people he thinks are bad and deserve it, but it crushes him to imagine the people he loves and cares about having to experience something as painful as what he went through. not to mention the whole “I came back, why do I get a second chance at all this when they, who are a much better person than I am, probably won’t” mindset we get some implications of him having
D (canon is a coward and won’t)
hello DC i am once again insisting a batfam member is bisexual
CASS TIME
A (realistic headcanon):
ok so we know cass likes ballet. thats canon. however i think we also should in general explore cass experiencing other types of dance/performance as well, be it herself as a performer or even just watching. like... god imagine her & like my brain just automatically for group activities puts her with tim steph and duke but also for this in particular I feel would be a Jason embraced activity, but like them going to see a broadway show or some other professional theatre or something, and her just being enthralled by the reading of body language of the performers! like again by any point in current stuff cass does have like, the ability to speak fine (reading still hard tho) but even so I think like. okay im a theatre kid if that’s not obvious from the Everything About Me but one thing I always do after seeing a show is ya know spend dinner afterwards discussing it with whoever i saw it with.
I just think that like, bringing those people i just mentioned to the table to discuss seeing a show after would be so FASCINATING because cass would bring this whole perspective of critiquing their acting on a whole different level- not based on how well they delivered lines out loud, but by what their body language was saying as they moved on stage. like im very amused by the idea of cass getting a totally different picture in her mind about what a character’s motivations were because she was paying way more attention to what their physicality was saying vs the words that were written and how they were delivered. i think the debates her and the others would have would be EPIC there. jason defending the text as it was written adamantly and cass being like ‘ok yeah sure but thats not what they did’
B (hilarious):
cass having no concept of money because why would she bother? is SO funny to me. like it’s not that she couldn’t be reasonable if she wanted to, but like, she knows that the Waynes are well off so it’s not something she actually needs to be concerned about, so she just goes hog wild. takes steph out to fancy dinners and makes steph order for them since cass ya know doesn’t really read the menus, and steph’s like ‘jesus christ this costs-” “don’t worry about it” “but cass-” and she just holds up one of bruce’s credit cards and steph’s still like “but you don’t even know the range-” “it is fine”
bruce does not have the heart to tell her to stop
C (heart-crushing):
i mean this is pretty much canon but especially now after death metal where she’s remembering, not just being told by a guy using weird alternate timeline technology, that she used to be an adopted member of the Wayne family... like that hurts so bad. To look at these people who have ya know been kind to her, Bruce has still been a father-like figure to her (i mean literally from the moment they met in New 52 canon during the flashback in Batman & Robin Eternal, where he’s telling her that she’s not a monster just because of what people forced her to do.... that she’s a hero... that hug.... dad behavior), and they do to some extent treat her as family... But to then really know, to feel and remember that she was actually adopted! She was a part of their family. To look at how she’s been calling herself Orphan while working with them this whole time... that’s so heartbreaking! I have cried about this idea so much! I want so badly a conversation between her and Bruce now where he offers to officially adopt her again, I need it so bad and if it doesn’t happen at some point in the next year or two I will be so distraught.
D (canon is a coward and won’t)
i want an in-depth exploration of cass’ relationship to her own gender. being raised without language and you know with so much of her life being independent (remember: CASS RAN AWAY AROUND THE WORLD WITHOUT REALLY KNOWING ANY SPOKEN LANGUAGE) and outside of an organized society impressing too much of gender expectations on her, i feel like the way she experiences it would be very unique! like sure she’s so far been fine with being assigned ‘girl’ (ya know that comes with batgirl, and how people just automatically treated her based on how she looks) but in terms of gender expression and like her actual relationship with ‘traditional femininity’ etc like... because of how she was raised I just think she’d have a really different perspective on it that could be cool to explore, and I think she’d fall outside of the binary after she really thinks about how she identifies.
tldr on that: she/they nb cass is what i’m getting at here

Okay time to put the tim foil hat back on, but the more I think about it the more I’m sure the Robin in the up coming Batman and Robin book is gonna be Tim.
And if I’m wrong, mutuals feel free to come and clown on me.
Exhibit A: Damian is going through his whole arc rn about finding his own path and discovering himself outside of Bruce, it would be really weird to then immediately put him on a Batman team up book where he’s a sidekick.
Exhibit B: this news comes out after the conclusion of the Robin Eternal book, and based off the evidence that they were sold out of all the issues when I went to the comic store, that leads me too assume the books sold well. and it would only make sense to give Timmy a bigger spotlight after his solo did well.
Exhibit C: Damian’s new Robin costume is ill suited for a dynamic duo storyline. Damian’s new costume doesn’t have any of the classic colors, and he seemed to have purposefully designed it to be almost an anti-robin costume. Whereas Tim’s new costume would made him a much stronger candidate for a Robin who’s working alongside batman.
Exhibit D: Tim is the only batfam member who’s currently unaccounted for. Bruce and Babs are in batman/detective, Dick and Damian both have their upcoming solos, Jason is in Urban Legends, and it seems like Cass is gonna get a few rolls is a few different books (and it seems like they’re gonna be doing stuff with Steph as well???) So it would only make sense that Tim’s placement will be in Batman and Robin.
Again this is all just massive speculation and I’m probably wrong, but I’m really hoping Tim is the robin in question. A new dynamic duo story with Bruce and Tim is literally everything I’ve ever wanted in life

Stolen glances - Damian Wayne x reader
A/n: hey, so this is the first time I’m ever posting an imagine so I’m kind of nervous, and also English isn’t my native language so I’m sorry if there’s anything wrong, feel free to message me if so. Also if you want to request something, feel free
Requested: no
Warnings: mentions of violence
Summary: All of the times Damian saw the reader and how he felt every time he did.
Word count: 1.736
The first time Damian saw you, you were sitting on your desk, sipping something out of a straw and taking some notes with a pink pen. He stood there for a while, taking in your features. How your h/c framed your delicate face, plump lips slightly pouted and your focused e/c eyes. You looked so young and he wondered what you were doing at Wayne Enterprises. Perhaps you were some of the work’s daughter and were just studying while waiting for them? He never saw you there.
You glanced up, only in time to see someone walk really fast past you. Leaving you confused.
The second time Damian saw you, you were near the coffee machine on the 8th floor, talking to his brother. You were trying to convince Tim how he should try drinking more iced coffee, stating it would be a bit healthier, decreasing his amount of caffeine, just a tiny bit.
He briefly walked past the two of you, not stopping to acknowledge his older brother. But he did indeed walked a bit slower just to hear the sound that just erupted out of your mouth.
“I promise you I’m not trying to trick you into quit drinking coffee.” You giggled, taking a sip of your mug
The third time Damian saw you, you were walking down the hall, trying to reach the elevator while carrying your notebook, your bag, a bottle of water and lots of case files. He watched you struggle and normally he would just casually watch and laugh quietly when the person eventually dropped off all of their belongings on the floor, but when he saw you stumble, he was by your side, helping you keep your stuff from hitting the ground, in a flash. Even him was a bit surprised.
You looked up at him trough your lashes, blowing a hair strand out of your face. Your cheeks grew red from embarrassment as you tried your best to smile at the boy in front of you.
“Oh God.” You muttered “Thank you!”
“Here, let me help you carry these.” He pulled the cases and notebook out of your hand “Where you’re heading to?”
“Home. I mean, I’m going home so heading to the lobby so I can call an Uber.”
You cursed yourself mentally for rambling. You were making a fool of yourself in front of such a cute boy.
He stared at you with bright blue eyes, nicely styled dark hair, defined jawline. He held a small smile to his lips, watching you so flustered. You looked cute in his eyes.
“I will accompany you to the lobby then.” He said, pressing the elevator button “I’m Damian by the way.”
Putting a face to the name you so often heard come out of Tim’s mouth made you a bit more flushed than before.
“I’m Y/N.” You smiled at him
The fourth time Damian saw you, you were eating lunch on your own. You were typing something on your phone when he approached you, not really knowing what to do. Was it ok for him to have lunch with you? Although he had already eaten, he felt like making you some company.
After you two properly met last week, he took it upon him to find out more about you. He wanted to know what was there about you that made him so desperately want to be close to you. Were you some kind of metahuman that made people attracted to you? He only found out your birth, a few months younger than him, that you were from Central City, were majoring in Journalism and worked at the Communication department from the Wayne Enterprises.
“Hello.” He spoke, startling you “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.”
“It’s ok.” You smiled at him “Why don’t you join me?” You said motioning to the chair in front of you
The thirty-seventh time Damian saw you, he almost didn’t recognize you. It was dark outside and you were speed walking down the street. Your face was tear stained and he could see some tears running down freely. You hugged your body tightly, glancing over your shoulder and you heard their voices again.
Damian stood at a nearby rooftop, dressed in his Robin suite, trying to understand what was going on. You looked so distressed, so unlike the person he grew to know and to have a sweet spot in his cold demeanor. But than he heard it, and it all became way too clear to him, as clear as his range could possibly let it.
“You think some pepper spray and a kick on the stomach is going to help you get rid of us, hot stuff?” A man spoke, getting closer to you
“I like the feisty ones better.” Another one completed “And I would like for you to answer when asked a question.” He yanked your arm, making a shrink leave your lips
Damian dropped out of the rooftop, yanking the man away from you and with a swift move he was down on the floor. The other man tried a few punches, but Robin quickly avoided all of them, twisting the man’s arm and punching him on the face real hard until he was knocked out.
He turned around to see you sitting on the floor, shaking as you took deep breaths, trying to process everything that had jus happened. He took a few steps closer to you, and you looked up at him, eyes so wide and so full of fear he had to hold back from wrapping you up in his arms, stroke your hair and say it was ok because he would never ever let anyone hurt you ever again.
The fortieth time Damian saw you, he felt something in his heart he couldn’t point what it was. You were wearing a black skirt with a few buttons, a Arctic Monkeys shirt tucked in, black Vans. You hair was shiny and your mouth looked even more plumper, or was it his imagination? In his eyes you looked astonishing, breathtaking even. He watched you talk to some of your friends, a big smile plastered on your face, making you look even prettier. He stood still staring, his heart besting faster than ever had, and he had this urgent feeling of wanting to see you like this everyday, so happy.
“Father.” He said slowly, still not taking his eyes off of you “What is this weird feeling? My heart is beating too fast and my belly is like there is... something cold inside of it?”
Bruce turned around to look at his son, confused of what he was talking about, but then he followed his eyesight, catching the glimpse of you. Of course, his son was staring at his only friend on the real world. He smiled fondly once he realized what this is all about.
“Sounds like someone has a crush on Y/N.” Tim teased, standing beside his younger brother
Damian turned around too shocked to say something. He turned around to his father who only nodded his head.
A crush? He’s never had a crush before because this wasn’t supposed to happen. He was supposed to be alone for all eternity. He was a former assassin, the Demon’s grandson. One day he would follow into his father’s footsteps and become Batman. There was no space in his life to have a crush on someone. What if you got hurt because of him? Just the thought alone made shivers run down his spine.
“I can’t have a crush on her. She’s too good for me.” Was all he said before leaving
The forty-first time Damian saw you was the first time he was seeing you after coming on terms with his feelings. You were only wearing a sport bra and some yoga pants, he eyed your body up and down, snapping it back to your face once he heard you giggle.
“Hi Dami.” You kneeled down to pet his dog’s head “Hi Titus, how are you my babyboy?”
The dog barked happily at the treat and Damian’s heart was doing backflips inside his ribcage. Watching you being your sweet, adorable self. It was impossible to not find it lovingly.
“Hi, Y/NN.” He smiled at you, holding out a hand to help you up again “What are you doing?”
“Just jogging, need to burn those burgers we at lunch yesterday.”
He nodded, blurting it out before he could even think about it. Maybe it was the way your eyes were shining in the sun, or the way you were smiling at him, but at that moment he knew he was sure of something. “Do you want to go out on a date with me tonight?”
The boy’s eyes went wide once he realized he had said it out loud. Now it was real, and he was sure you were going to shut him down. Laugh at him in his face, you were just too pretty, too sweet, too nice and too cute for him.
“I would love to.” You smiled “Pick me up at 7?”
The sixty-eighth time Damian saw you, you were standing in front of him, in between his legs. He was sat on his bed in the manor, eyeing you carefully as you held his face in your hands, caressing his cheek lovely. Your eyes were watery as your hands went down to caress his chest, tracing a big bruise that was forming. Your lips quivered down and he was quick to sneak his arms around your waist, pulling you in a hug, resting his head on your chest.
“Oh Dami, you could’ve... You could’ve been seriously injured and it’s all because of me.” You whispered, too scared to say it louder
“Please don’t blame yourself, beloved.” He soothed you, pulling you onto his lap so your head was resting against the crock of his neck as he stoked your hair “I will always, always, protect you, no matter what.”
He wiped away your tears, kissing your cheeks tenderly. He hated to see you cry, specially if it was because of him.
You looked up at him. Pulling his face in your hands once more, leaning in until your lips touched in a loving kiss.
“You are the best that has ever happened to me.” You said against his lips
Damian smiled. Maybe he wasn’t doomed to live a life alone, after all.

◇◆Ailey Villains Gallery: Scarecrow◇◆
Scarecrow's face claim: Adrien Brody
Secret vs Scarecrow! How did they met?
Ailey (Secret) and Scarecrow met 'thanks' to Batman:
One night in Gotham, Scarecrow infiltrated the Iceberg Lounge with the intention to Kill some of Penguin's Henchmen.
With a more "upgraded" (and letal) version of his fear gas.
Just as a way to send a message to Oswald who had stolen some of his gas and now was selling it for a very high price on the dark market.
To prevent Batman from intervening, Scarecrow convinced Riddler and Dr Pig to create a "distraction" (if murdering almost 11 people between the two and then make an "spectacle" about it, can be called like that) for the Bat.
And unfortunately when the "Caped Crusader" realized it was a trap (thanks to one of Riddler's "funny" riddles) he was already too far from the building.
Too far from stopping Scarecrow.
He analyzed all of his options pretty fast: he couldn't send Damian, he was with him, Dick was in Blüdhaven, He already send Tim after Riddler and Steph after Pig, Cass and Barbara where in another state with the Birds of prey, Duke and Kate where teaming up to solve a crime involving a new rising homicidal cult and Jason…he wasn't in good terms with Jason…again…and he losed his track at least 2 weeks ago.
And so…he reluctantly took the phone and dialed the number of the one person he could think of.
Ailey was doing the usual: shouting angrily and throwing a tantrum towards her employees (like the good little tyrant she is) for a last minute cancellation of 4 of the stellar models for the upcoming Winter collection of SVELLYO. When all of a sudden she received a call from the one and only: Bruce fucking Wayne.
—B! What a perfect timing! Is not bothersome at all!—she remarked the words sarcastically annoyed a tone that sounded like the venomous hissing of a snake.
—Listen Ailey, I don't have time for thi-
She cut him off
—What a coincidence! Neither do I, B's man! Byee~
—Ailey…—He didn't shout at her but his more menacing (than usually) tone, make her feel like he did; it was a voice tone that Bruce normally just used when he was with Joker and when he used it. Oh boy, You just knew the man ain't taking any shit.
—Listen to me. And listen. C A R E F U L L Y. Scarecrow is in the Iceberg Lounge it's 2 minutes away from you by flying. I need you to go after him and prevent whatever he's up to against Cobblepot.—He said a little more ""nicer"" (if it's even possible) this time, but still with a hint of frustration in his voice.
—yeah…well…I also need this little favor, B—Bruce was about to fucking lose it in that moment, there where lives in danger and this CHILD was just thinking of herself!! But before he could lash out at her with a "I'm dissapointed" speech; Damian took the phone.
—He said he'll do it, you have my word. Now…Go! —Robin said without thinking twice
—Thank you, my zelenyy*! I'm on my way! —and with an Angry Bruce Lashing out at every single thing on earth on the background, Ailey hanged up, wrote a quick note to his secretary, asking him to give all of her employees a rise (including him, of course) and sprinted out to SVELLYO's roof top; without a word to the perplexed staff.
Once she stood there. She could feel the cold night breeze hitting her face and without any doubt she jumped abruptly from one of the highest points in the city.
Her eyes opened at the middle of his falling, adrenaline and renewed energy cursing trough her veins, her blonde hair replaced with a glowing rose gold, a metalic blue growing in her gaze and her outfit conveniently transformed on an all black bodysuit with slight hints of gold on the bottom of her sleeves.
His whole body defying gravity, flying through the night sky with the same grace and glory of a swan and leaving a subtle trace of light glowing pink as she passed by.
She arrived at the Iceberg Lounge back entrance at least 5 seconds earlier from what Batman had predicted.
Penguin's henchmen where all gathered in what appeared to be a small cellar on the very back of the casino, they were complaining about an out of the blue"meeting".
Secret (Ailey) assumed it was Scarecrow's way to get them all in the same place and avoid any unnecessary complications.
With extreme caution she stood and watched near the skylight, trying to fade away her own slightly glowing nature with the moonlight.
Her eyes searched quickly inside the room, ans she soon spotted atleast 6 gas tanks oddly put in some of the poorly lighted corners of the cellar.
But no sign of the maniac
Or so she though until the abrupt pain in her neck and the obscure presence behind her sooner than later make her realize; she wasn't alone.
She could feel the infernal pain from the toxin filling his lungs and cutting her breath and her vision becoming a little bit dizzy.
—You should know better than spying on people, dear…It might not end up being what you expected—his voice was deep and unforgiving, a condescending tone and the weight of countless sleepless nights leaked through every word.
She tried to speak but only felt her throat closing.
—Now, now, dear…all will end up soon. —His tall and lanky figure covered by worn out clothes to match his own psychotic aesthetic made him look intimidating. And without any glimpse of empathy he proceeded to toss her body aside with a kick like if she was a filthy dead rat, and continue to watch expectantly to the ignorant henchmen above.
He was waiting, waiting for one of them to foolishly reveal where his beloved toxin was and after a couple of minutes one of them casually mentioned a secret basement where the most important items waited patiently for whoever was able to afford his almost ridiculously expensive price.
Crane smiled wickedly to himself…he had just what he wanted…almost.
He activated the slightly hidden tanks of fear gas and watched in admiration as some of the henchmen faces started to change into a horrified expression.
—Head's up, asshole!—He didn't even had time to process the situation properly, when Secret's hands where at both sides of his head, the tip of her fingers illuminated and emanating Rose gold strings of pure energy attaching themselves to Crane's mind.
And at that exact moment he remembered: the pain, the panic, the fear.
The very first time he tested his toxin, was on himself: he was laying in to that dirty old shack for what felt like an eternity; he screamed and begged and yet the hallucinations didn't leave him, his mind was racing with the most horrible thought it could possibly even consider, everything so real and yet so distant. He felt hopeless.
And the delicate strings clinging tight around his mind. Lord, what a bittersweet nostalgia! He felt the same, the same way as the first time, he could hear the screams, the voices, the endless discontent. But couldn't find anything around him…just…hollow and for some strange reason…that scared the shit out of him.
Ironically it had been years since the last time Crane felt genuine fear.
When Crane woke up, he was already in that horrible place: a worn out cell from Arkham
But strangely he didn't feel any kind of anger or frustration. No…he felt…elated in the best way possible almost like if he had reborn!
And so…he stood there; staring blankly at the small window with an almost devilish smile across his face.
Waiting for the next encounter
◆◇◆◇
Ailey felt so proud of herself, she had successfully managed to knock out Scarecrow, control the gas leak and save Penguin's henchmen! All alone! And even took the liberty to recover all of Crane's toxin samples Penguin had!
She couldn't wait to see Bruce's face, Oh that man owed her BIG TIME!
When Bruce and Damian finally arrived at the Batcave, he was welcomed by her.
She looked like a 10 year-old who approved one of his test and was proudly showing off the paper to his parents.
Wich made Bruce smile…a little (even if he doesn't admit to it)
—See? You can trust me, B!—she said handing him the samples.
—So you send him to Arkham? Hmm…honestly I didn't though you'll made it…but good job…I guess…?—Damian admitted, while taking off his mask.
—Well, I'm glad I'm not THAT disappointing, sir! —Her tone expressing the sarcasm and slight frustration and offence in every word. Which Damian only replayed with a faint little smile.
—…Good Job, Ailey…—Bruce spoke for the first time since they arrived
—…and thank you for your help…—He completed with a slightly more """friendly""" tone (which just means less stiffness in his voice but still maintaining his authoritarian tone)
—yeah…well…don't thank me yet…we had a deal!—She said while playfully floating around him and touching the ears of his Bat-suit; Bruce could only do as much as to touching the bridge of his nose trying to contain his very obvious nuisance.
—…What do want? —He said sighing heavily.
—Nothing much, really! I want You, Damian, Dick and Katy modeling for SVELLYO winter collection catwalk, next week! —
◆◇◆◇
OMG! That was fun! I was going to put a small and cute little drawing of Ailey touching the ears of the Bat-suit but I still haven't finished yet! So yeah…I will edit it once I have it done!
Anyway! I loved writing this, and I will be uploading more content for Ailey, wich now she has her official anti-hero name! And is called
🥁🥁🥁🥁
Secret!
Shout out to @melyaliz / @insideoflit for the name idea! I honestly struggle so much with names 😅
Thanks to @Shiro.GURu (on insta) for helping me with this! Love ya, girl <3

Batman: No Man’s Land is what made me a Batman fan - and it is equally what made me abandon the “Big Two” comic companies some years later as everything I liked was erased from continuity, Cassie Cain was treated like dog shit, the “Bat Family” became an all-boys club and so on. Given that DC has rebooted everything at least twice I feel my disdain is warranted - you can go on all you like about how Batman is ‘an eternal story’ but I firmly believe that the kind of storytelling I want from Batman cannot survive contact with constant reboots and disregarded continuity. I could live in a world where twenty years from now Batman is retired and his predecessors are living out his ideals in their own way - comics keeps doing this but never lets it stick, the commitment to some platonic ideal of brand identity never letting anything move on. All the stories I’ve loved over the last few decades have largely been serialized ones - I can enjoy non-seralized work, even love it: a good Calvin and Hobbes strip is always timeless. But C&H and DC comics are trying to do very different things - Calvin can stay young forever, I don’t think I really want that from Batman. Every few years my favourite characters all become strangers, or cease to exist, and I’m supposed to just keep reading? Sorry, DC - investing in an ephemeral story subject to the whims of editors hunting more sales and restarting everything because that’ll let “new readers get on board.” Given the ever-falling drop of DC and Marvel comics sales, coupled with the endless hard and soft reboots, I don’t actually think that’s true. i think jumping on to a story with years of depth behind it is wonderful. When Is tarted reading MTMTE I wasn’t put-off that it was the latest entry in a long line of them: I went back and read the entire decade-long run of IDW Transformers comics. And some of it was shit, yeah - but some of it was great, and when i returned to the new stuff all that weight of past actions and people meant something. It gives worlds substance, even if you’ve not read that exact issue being referenced - you know that others have come this way before. All of this is a very long intro to this: I am re-reading all of NML to see if it still holds up - writing, story, all that jazz. And... uh... Oh Jeeze. I forgot about this. This is my old nemesis: Mark Buckingham.
Mark Buckingham has had a very storied career. He’s a decent inker, fine as a colourist blah blah blah - but he... woof. he’s a dreadful penciler. And he’s won lots of awards and renown and I’ve never understood why - because his faces do this thing and it’s the worst. Mark Buckingham first came to my attention when he took over as penciler on issues 6 of Fables. He replaced Lan Medina who did the first five issues and had this wonderful, kind of old-fashioned romance comics style I love, especially his rendering of Snow White:
(Fables #01) Medina left after issue five - no idea why . - eventually snagging an Eisner for it but not, as far as I can tell, much name recognition beyond that, one of those jobbing artists who pencils in relative obscurity, occasional attached to something big but never bestowing much on him. Or maybe he’s huge among those “in the know” - time on Google came up with a lot of stub articles and the like. Anyways, from issue 6 Mark Buckingham takes over and goes on the pencil the vast majority of the next 145 issues... This is a tragedy, because when Lan Medina drew Bigby Wolf his face... well...it didn’t melt.
These are all from Fables #07, which is the first issue i really started to notice this problem. Most of Buckingham’s work is unobjectionable, but he keeps having these bizarre faces almost always involving Bigby.
Fables 13
Fables 14 Hell let’s jump ahead to:
Fables #50 Fables #50, by the way, is the point at which I really started to question “why the fuck am I still reading this?” It’s the issue where after a big long masturbatory commando raid the Big Bad Wolf turns to the camera and tells Gepetto - but really the audience - the author's opinions on Israel.
It’s as jarring and out-of-place as it looks. If you’re wondering”‘Should I read Fables” the answer depends entirely on how much you enjoy something that isn’t so right-wing that it openly endorses fascism, but just right wing enough to surprise you now and again with something that leaves a nasty taste in your mouth. Fables always feels what would have happened if Frank Miller and Neil Gaiman had been merged into a single being and made an imaginative but reactionary comic book. But all that lay in the future. In 1998 Mark was working of Shadow of the Bat, one of the numerous Batman spin-off that all came together to make Batman: No Man’s Land, including Batman: Shadow of the Bat, Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight, Detective Comics, Azrael: Agent of the Bat (which is shit), Catwoman, Robin, Batman Chronicles, Nightwing, Catwoman, a couple of one-shots like Batman: Huntress & Spoiler, crossovers with Young Justice and JLA, and last but not least, a comic called Batman. (I can’t stress how bad Azrael: Agent of the Bat is. When people make fun of angsty, over-wrought 90s comics, they’re talking at least in part about Azrael. Apparently he made it over to the new Prime universe. No idea why.) And boy - if you thought Fables had a melting problem, let’s look at Shadows of the Bat! (These are are all from #73)
It’s something to do with the mouth - his habit of erasing the middle of it just makes men look like Jim Halpert crossed with Guy Smiley and I hate it.
Oh Jesus, Oracle - eat something, for the love of God, you’re emaciated!
Blargle blargle blargle
This isn’t an example of bad art. I just wanted to note that Anarky is here. Who is that, you ask? He’s a third-rate V rip off who exists because it was the 90s. You don’t care about Anarky. Nobody has ever cared about Anarky. He was supposed to be the third Robin and got dumped - that’s how much nobody cares about Anarky.
Guest appearance by Jim Carrey!
Why is this so god-damn funny?

10 Times The Joker Almost Nailed Batman
https://ift.tt/2mWXDUm
We celebrate the craziest plans of the Clown Prince of Crime in honor of his first solo movie.

He is the greatest villain of them all. He is the evil that tests Batman and makes the hero better. He is an uncontrollable force of chaos, more akin to a hurricane than a criminal, who strikes without warning. He believes that life is a chaotic farce and everything exists as part of a twisted game between him and Batman. He is the star of comics, television, cartoons, and film. He is the Joker, one of the most enduring symbols of evil in the last century.
The Joker is no match for Batman physically, so when he puts one over on the Dark Knight, when he “gets” him, it has to be a masterpiece of chaos and violence. These are just some of the greatest moments when the Joker put one over on his eternal adversary.

10. Death of the Family: The Dinner Scene
Almost Got Him moment: Made Batman believe he skinned his children. And he coulda done it too…
Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo gave us a Joker for a modern age. He embraced what went on before but really upped the ante in terms of intensity. Snyder’s Joker wore his own severed face as a mask and threatened the sanctity of such long standing but icons like Alfred and James Gordon. It all culminated in a dinner scene at the Batcave as a brainwashed Alfred seemingly serves each member of the Bat family, Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Robin, Red Hood, and Damian Wayne their own severed faces.

The pages read like a fevered nightmare as the Robins and Batgirl all sit starring at their own amputated visages. Staying true to his character, the whole thing was a joke, and the Bat family were unharmed, but their confidence in their mentor and their own safety was shaken forever because of the Joker’s actions.

9. Mad Love (Batman: The Animated Series)
Almost Got Him moment: Harley beat Batman, and Joker created Harley. Although Mr. J didn’t quite see it that way.
The final episode of the New Batman Adventures is also its high point. The story deals with the origin of Joker’s moll, Harley Quinn, but it also serves as a reminder of just how all-encompassing the Joker’s twisted ability to manipulate anyone is. It was the first time fans learned that Harley Quinn used to be the Joker’s psychologist, and through sheer charismatic manipulation, he was able to mold her into his own twisted image. He made an educated woman, an expert of the inner workings of the psyche; believe that the world is a meaningless joke. Through the Joker, Harley had become a competent criminal, one who did what even he could not, successfully capture the Batman.

In a moment that transcended traditional animation, the Joker shows just how depraved and selfish a soul he truly is by slapping Harley for making him feel inadequate because she defeated Batman and not him. The whole episode dealt with a broken woman’s devotion to the Joker, and her entire world came crashing down in one moment of shockingly realistic domestic violence.

8. Infinite Crisis “You Didn’t Let the Joker Play”
Almost Got Him Moment: Joker saves the multiverse, in a way that the Justice League couldn’t. Take that, bats!
Infinite Crisis was a huge, continuity laden epic all boiled down into the essence of a Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman story. It was one of the biggest stories DC had ever attempted and it did shake the very foundation of the DC Universe, but with all the cosmic shenanigans, the story’s finale centered on one sick man, with no powers, forcing his will into the proceedings.
Alexander Luthor, the son of Lex Luthor of Earth-3, is the antagonist and the catalyst of the events of Infinite Crisis. His machinations are godlike as he manipulates multiverses like gears of a clock. Alex Luthor recruited some of Earth’s most dangerous villains to fight his battles against the heroes of the multiverse. Luthor dismissed the Joker as an unpowered wild card, a man who would be difficult to manipulate and useless in a fight against Supermen and Green Lanterns.
read more: Joker Movie Review
The Joker did not appear in any part of the epic, but is revealed by the prime reality’s Lex Luthor at the story’s climax. Joker sprays Alex with his signature acid flower and shoots him in the head, with a smirking Lex, who did not wish to share the villainous spotlight with the younger Luthor, declaring that Alex’s one mistake was he “didn’t let the Joker play.” This moment reveals that it could be a god, monster, or cosmic manipulator, whatever the case; the Joker is still more dangerous with a gag flower and a bullet. Sometimes the universe needs a master of chaos to do the things heroes can’t.

7. Batman 1966 TV Series: Cesar Romero's ‘Stache
Almost Got Him Moment: Every death trap, every gag, every cliffhanger. Shoulda taken those utility belts, Cesar.
Sure, the camp vibe from the 1960s Batman TV series set comics back a few decades. Even when Watchmen was being published, the public perception of super-heroes was still “BIFF POW WHAM!” Yet, for many young children of the '70s and '80s, the series was a gateway drug into the world of comics. While Romero camped up some truly ridiculous plots, there was something about his demeanor as the Joker that still strikes a chilling chord. That special way he had of frowning while wearing a painted on smirk, and the white face caked on over Romero’s signature ‘stache gave his Joker a sinister heir that transcended the shows limitations.

For many generations Romero’s performance defined the Clown Prince of Crime. Every time Romero appeared, he and his ‘stache would come within inches of taking out Batman and Robin turning his every appearance into an “almost got him.”

6. Batman #1: The First Appearance
Almost Got Him Moment: It all began here. Joker committed murder right under Batman’s nose until Batman figured out the eternal game.
Many times, especially in the Golden Age, a character’s first appearance only gives a readers a fraction of an indication of what the character would become. The Joker, being the Joker, defies expectations, and everything a fan needs to know about the character can be found in that first appearance in Batman #1. His use of poison gas, his terrifying penchant for popping up out of nowhere, his need to intellectually challenge Batman, all add up to relatively the same character that exists today.
read more: The Secrets of the Joker Movie
Based on actor Conrad Veidt in the silent film The Man Who Laughs, the Joker was a rarity for his day, as most villains were used to challenge the hero for one story and then fade away. Not the Joker, who endured, and despite some shifts away from the characters vile roots, he still exists almost identical to his 1940 appearance. This first story is so enduring that Chris Nolan adopted many elements for his first act in The Dark Knight including the unforgettable poison booze glass murder of Commissioner Loeb.
Even in his first appearance, committing crimes right under the Dark Knight’s nose, was a great moment of mastery over Batman.

5. Batman: No Man’s Land: The Murder of Sarah Essen Gordon
Almost Got Him Moment: In Gotham’s darkest hour, Joker managed to destroy the life of Batman’s best friend.
While Gotham was crippled and cut off from the rest of America’s infrastructure by a massive earthquake, the Joker strikes, kidnapping all the babies of Gotham. The Joker is confronted by James Gordon’s wife, Sarah Essen, and tosses her a helpless infant. When she catches the child, the Joker shoots her between the eyes.

Many people treat the Joker as sort of an anti-hero, the freedom his manic behavior allows him is attractive to many fans, but this moment shows that the Joker is a brutal thug looking to take advantage of a tragedy to suit his own twisted machinations. The Joker took a delight in Gordon’s torment, promising even more pain in the future. The shooting of Sarah Essen, an honest cop and loving wife, stands as a constant reminder of the Joker’s cruelty. Batman’s inability to save his friend’s wife stands as one of Joker’s greatest victories.
Video of Bob Gun Batman 1989
4. Batman (1989) “Bob…Gun.”
Almost Got Him Moment: Batman robbed the Joker of his fun, but despite Batman’s careful planning, someone still died.
There are many fantastic moments created by Jack Nicholson in Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman movie. From his fantastic origin sequence in Axis Chemicals, to the murder of his boss, Carl Grissom (played by the great Jack Palance), to his climactic church battle with Batman, but his greatest moment, like all great Joker moments, was random and chaotic.
read more: Creating a New Joker Origin Story
At the beginning of the film’s third act, the Joker tries to poison Gotham with gas filled balloons, when Batman swoops down in the Batwing and drags the balloons away, the Joker is incredulous. Like a kid who had his favorite toy snatched by a playground bully, the Joker pouts and asks his most loyal henchmen Bob the Goon, for a gun. Bob, ever loyal to his boss, complies and the Joker, without changing expression, shoots Bob in the gut. Batman ruined the Joker’s fun, and someone had to die, even if it was someone loyal and useful to the Joker. Even though Batman seemingly saved Gotham, people still died, making Batman’s victory incomplete.

3. A Death in the Family “The Crowbar”
Almost Got Him Moment: He killed Robin. Duh.
Yes, it was gimmicky to have fans call a 900 number and decide whether Jason Todd’s version of Robin would live or die. Yes, it robbed the story of any organic creatively, but even the most jaded reader has to admit the death itself remains shocking to this day.
Over the years, the Joker has used many gimmicked gags and traps to take down Batman and his family, but when it came to the moment where the Joker finally was able to kill a Bat Hero, he was just a thug wielding a blunt instrument. It was another reminder of just how dangerous and brutal the sometimes likable clown can be.
Out of Todd’s death, DC was able to ignite literally hundreds of story ideas from the arrival of Tim Drake, to Todd’s resurrection as the Red Hood. From one violent act with a crowbar, the Joker created a legend.

2. The Dark Knight “The Interrogation Scene”
Almost Got Him Moment: He did what no else could do, made Batman powerless.
One can fill a list of great Joker moments on Heath Ledger’s performance in The Dark Knight alone, but one stands out above the others. Yes, even above the pencil trick. After the Joker is captured, Batman and Gotham’s Finest believe that the ordeal is finally over, until the Joker turns his trump card, revealing that he kidnapped, not only Gotham’s beloved D.A. Harvey Dent, but Batman’s true love, Rachael Dawes, as well. There is one thing all the crooks and villains had in common in the Nolan Universe; they feared Batman.
Not the Joker.
At this moment in the interrogation room, fans and Batman realized that Batman had no power over the Joker. That the Joker did not care about pain, he couldn’t be intimidated, bribed, or threatened. The more violent Batman became, the funnier the Joker found the situation. This was a new type of villain, one who could not be controlled, a swarm of hungry locusts in a man’s form gleefully destroying everything in his path.

As Batman races to save Rachel and Harvey, with just a few words (and a very well hidden cell phone bomb) the Joker is able to escape police custody. As Batman pounds on the Joker, it becomes clear just what an uncontrollable force the Joker is.
As Rachel burns, the Joker wins.

1. Dark Knight Returns ”The End”
Almost Got Him Moment: In his final moment, the Joker made Batman’s beloved Gotham see their hero as a murderer.
Nothing defines the relationship between Batman and the Joker, like the proposed final conflict. In Frank Miller, Klaus Janson, and Lynn Varley's The Dark Knight Returns, when Batman returns to Gotham after years of retirement, the Joker awakens from a coma to challenge the Dark Knight. Miller postulates, that without Batman, the Joker would cease to be, only returning when his other half was active. It was their final battle, and a battle in which Joker won. For decades, Batman refused to kill the Joker, but as the Joker snaps his own neck while laughing hysterically, it makes the world believe that one of Earth’s greatest heroes has finally turned murderer.
By destroying Batman as a symbol for justice and turning him into a symbol for selfish vengeance, the Joker turns the public, the government, and even Superman against Batman in the process. The Joker had won his greatest victory.
