I think I might actually cost my insurance half a million before the end of the year, and considering they almost killed me due to not approving my prior authorization until I was admitted to the hospital (which resulted in me having multiple surgeries this year) idgaf, they can fuck right off and pony up every single penny for my medication. 😈

i'd been wondering how sansa and jeyne poole's insulting names for the redwyne twins made it to cersei's pov in feast, and now i believe i've found the answer.

normally i'd find any instance of littlefinger creeping on sansa to be well, creepy and skeevy, and (given future events) any association of him with jeyne is especially revolting and repugnant, but there is something funny about imagining him lurking around them at some point in agot (probably during the tourney festivities), overhearing their disparaging talk of the redwyne twins and deciding he had to steal those names for himself to show off his wit with queen and council. maybe baelish's dislike of his own nickname means part of his revenge at the world at large means he can't resist any mean names for other more blue-blooded nobles he can find, and in this case he had to learn these nicknames from two 11yo girls. this pales in comparison to all his later crimes against those girls, though it does mean cersei likely thinks the names came straight from littlefinger, never knowing the true source she has to thank for shittalking the redwynes like that.

you asked primarily for literature, so here is a selection:

a lotus of another color, on the internet archive here. this was my entry point into the south asian archive and queer south asian histories. diaspora-heavy. there's some weird revisionist and woo-woo shit in this book (casteist/islamophobic) but like all anthologies contains some gems. i liked nayan shah's essay and ian rashid's poetry. ratti (the editor) annoys me. it has solid information on 20th c. dyke newsletters circulated in the diaspora. i recommend it, CAUTIOUSLY.

loving women: being lesbian in unprivileged india, found on libgen. thus far the only sociology ive found of working-class queer ppl (mostly lesbians) in india. a good number of life stories of queer partnerships between masculine and feminine lesbians (butchfemme is american history... you might find this book to your taste if you're looking for smth analogous in india). im conflicted ab this book though. the author is a sharma and pays lip service to caste issues, but doesn't do a very good job of it, plus the book treats trans women and lesbians as distinct, mutually exclusive groups, plus she exoticizes poverty. there's other stuff about her fieldwork ethics i dislike. but on the whole im glad i read this book.

a small step in a long journey: a memoir by akkai padmashali, possibly the most well-known trans rights activist in/from india, at least from where im sitting. ebook available from zubaan for ₹325/$4. still making my way through it but the few chapters ive read i really appreciate.

dirty river: a queer femme of color dreaming her way home by leah lakshmi piepzna-samarasinha. obligatory include. haven't read it yet but i mean to and i am VERY excited about it. piepzna-samarasinha's care work changed the trajectory of my life, possibly even more radically than realizing i was a dyke did. @/brattyfemmebaby recommended it to me and am grateful that she did!

migritude by shailja patel. not explicitly about lesbianism, but the first book i read, years before my own coming out, by a brown person who called herself a lesbian. what this book did for me was show me a way to cohere my life and my sense of self; i'd resigned myself to living in pieces before it. i don't think patel(!) talks about caste at all in this book, which is typical with archives from the diaspora tbh. worth a read.

insects are just like you and me except some of them have wings by kuzhali manickavel. experimental lit (fiction). working my way through it atm and enjoying myself. i will be reading everything else manickavel has published. ebook available from blaft for ₹495/$6.

(zubaan has other books on queer history, and especially lesbian history, that im eyeing and will be reading. ive also been looking at blaft's catalogue recently and intrigued by it.)

the caveat to your request for literature is that the majority of the south asian archive is not in english, and what's written down largely describes the experience of upper-caste upper-class transmisogyny-exempt indians. look for documentaries/films. i recommend these:

many people, many desires (2004), for free here. 45 mins. sponsored by sangama, a bangalore-based queer NGO. note that the identities professed by the queer people in the film are reclaimed and are not words i think allies should be throwing around. but i rlly liked this docu! originally found thanks to the efforts of @/desbianherstory.

birds of paradise (2018), for free here. 10 mins. a dialogue film about three trans women living together in kochi.

some of the earliest concrete written archives from the diaspora are newsletters: anamika, which ran for three issues 1985-1987 and shamakami, which ran 1990-1997. i have copies of anamika; anyone is welcome to dm me or send an ask for them and i will email them over. haven't gone through anamika myself yet, but i suspect a heavy transmisogyny problem if the adverts for shamakami are anything to go by. the book chapter outing indian sexualities: bombay dost and the limits of queer intersectionality is a good history of newsletters both from within india and the diaspora; not lesbian-focused, but i insist on it as supplementary reading if you will be engaging with any of the newsletters.

i also follow talia bhatt's and fariha róisín's writing (note that most internet sources seem to be misgendering róisín; they use they/them pronouns), and manu kaur's organizing work.
