SPOILERS if you haven't seen this week's episode obviously

We start off the episode with this shot of Superman with the drawn on glasses. A good homage to what Lois did in the 1980 Superman II movie...

where she not only drew the glasses but also a full suit and hat on a picture of Superman.

Next we see Jimmy waking up and seeing someone debunking his conspiracy theories on Sub-Diego.

Sub Diego was an actual place in the DC universe before the New 52 reboot. In Aquaman #15 and #16 (2003) , shown here (W: Will Pfeifer, P: Patrick Gleason, I: Christian Alamy, C: Nathan Eyring, L: Jared K. Fletcher for issue 15, Nick Napolitano for issue 16). The underwater city is actually San Diego, but is buried underwater thanks to a tidal wave and makes its first appearance in Aquaman #15 (2003). There was a lot of casualties from this.

When we get to our title its "You Will Believe A Man Can Lie" a reference to the tagline for the 1978 Superman movie.

As seen here on the poster, it says "You'll believe a man can fly".

Next we see our villain, well one of the villains, for the episode, Heatwave.

In the comics Heatwave makes his first appearance in Flash 140 (1963) (cover art by Carmine Infantino, Murphy Anderson, and Ira Schnapp). Heatwave aka Mick Rory is a Flash rogue usually acting as a rival to Captain Cold aka Leonard Snart. In MAwS, their Heatwave shares the same last name and powers, but MAwS Heatwave is gender flipped. You might have seen Heatwave in the CW DC comics shows where he is played by Dominic Purcell in The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow.

Lois, later in the episode, name drops Heatwave's name. Gotta be honest when Heatwave showed up I was like is that Rampage? Cuz the MAwS design looks vaguely like Rampage.

If she does show up in MAwS, I'll talk more about her in another post, but for now, Rampage aka Karen Lou "Kitty" Faulkner, makes her first appearance in Superman #7 (1987) (full page here: W&P: John Byrne, I: Karl Kesel, C: Tom Ziuko, L: John Costanza).

Steve drags Jimmy to film his debunking Flamebird videos and references Starro who I talked about here.

Lois, later runs around with the Daily Planet police scanner trying to catch Superman and the dispatcher reports that a robbery is in progress at McGuinness Luxe Garage.

This is a nice reference to Ed McGuinness who was the artist for Superman, Action Comics, and Superman/Batman in the early 2000s. If you've seen Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, then you'll know the movie takes inspiration from his character designs in the first arc of the Superman/Batman comic series. The Superman/Batman #1 (2003) cover here is done by Ed McGuinness, Dexter Vines, and Dave Stewart. I like Ed McGuinness's pencils, very stylized.

Heatwave name drops Livewire and the Gazzo mod family. Both of whom I've talked about here and here respectively

Heatwave has been running away from Deathstroke here who has been taking our her crew. Notice that Slade Wilson doesn't have the half black half orange helmet yet that almost every Deathstroke depiction always has.

He, Amanda Waller, and the General who I totally think is General Sam Lane, Lois's dad, are fans of DBZ cuz of the scouters they're wearing.

Later in the scene we see the General again he's totally General Sam Lane. I'll talk more about him when we get a double confirmation through a name drop/reveal in a later post calling Amanda Waller, Mandy. What a fucking bold thing to say to Waller! Like damn! power move right there!

Superman and Deathstroke are fighting under a highway and we see the traffic is heading to Bludhaven!

Very good reference to my favorite character in all of pop culture, Dick Grayson aka Nightwing. Nightwing makes Bludhaven his city to protect. The city makes its first appearance in Nightwing #1 (1996) (the panel here - W: Chuck Dixon, P: Scott McDaniel, I: Karl Story, C: Roberta Tewes, L: John Costanza). Fun Bludhaven fact, its crime rate is WORST than Gotham! Also HIGHLY recommend reading the new Nightwing run cuz its fucking amazing! Won a few Eisner Awards (think the Oscars but for comic books) recently and I am not just saying that because I am a Dick Grayson fan.

Near the end of the episode, we see Lois willing to jump off a building to prove that Clark is Superman. A lot of discourse was happening online over this, but I do want to say this is pretty on brand for her to do.

In Superman II, Lois does something similar and Clark saves her. its just in MAwS, Clark flies to save her thus ruining the secret identity, while in Superman II, Clark does save her but he is still able to get away with it thanks to him playing it more subtly.

Don't know why people we're in such a fucking fit over something that Lois has done before.

In the after credits scene, Jimmy, who planned a sasquatch finding adventure with Lois and Clark, but they were dealing with their shit and Jimmy was by himself, decides to do the finding on his own and meets a giant gorilla. In the first episode Jimmy mentions an intelligent gorilla in France and my guess is this is Monsieur Mallah. You can read more about him here. Hello! I’m pinging you all because I've noticed you might have reblogged this Gaza charity scammer's donation post on their page, and i’m hoping you didn’t lose any money to them. If you gave this person money through PayPal, you can attempt to dispute the claim through Paypal, and if you're American you can also submit a fraud report to the FTC.

The easiest way to tell if someone is a scammer is to check their username to see if they follow random naming conventions (a string of random nouns- in this case “massivegalaxytragedy” which is indicative of botting) and then to check their gofundme link, which in this case is fake, and redirects you to their PayPal that originally had the PayPal name “Angeline Ikwabe” which then changed to "Rosinta Marwa" after getting called out. The name is not Palestinian and follows a pattern of similar scammer names.

They also hid, blocked, and removed replies from people calling them out.

Not all people reaching out through the inbox are scams though, I've gotten legitimate messages from genuine people needing help from Gaza before. When people in Gaza reached out to me, they showed by who and where they were vetted from, and had legitimate gofundme links. So if you get an inbox message you're unsure of but are still wanting to help, check with the scammer tracker list and vetted fundraiser masterpost linked above 💕

for a verse in which DC and Marvel exist in the same world and Leonard & Mick ( @problematicbastards ) have adopted Nettie ( @unpaidpiper​ ) but he still ends up friends with Peter ( @spideystark​ )

Leonard had started looking into Peter Stark the second Nettie had mentioned being friends with him, and he was entirely unconvinced of the official statement that the other wasn’t Spiderman. Maybe the general public believed or pretended to believe it, and he didn’t push it when he’d asked Nettie about it and he’d told him that was not the case. But that just meant that when Nettie came home upset at the other’s insistence that he needed to learn to read people better or he was going to end up in a dangerous situation, he could deal with the issue easier.

Lisa had told him not to do something stupid when he left the house and Mick had offered to come with, but he’d told them to just stay home and to not let Nettie know he’d left. Now he was in a bank that was 10 minutes from closing with only two employee’s and one patron left, all of who were on the ground with their hands behind their heads waiting for a certain wall crawler to show up as he sat with his gun pointed at the only partrons back.

He didn’t say anything right away when the web slinger showed up, just kind of stared him down until the other spoke. "Captain Cold-don’t you usually bother The Flash? What are you doing here?” Len just pulled the gun up and rested the end in one hand as he eyed the other for a few more seconds before answering.

“Well it wouldn’t be very good for my reputation if I didn’t confront someone after they made my kid cry now would it?” At the confused head tilt Peter did he spoke again without looking away from him. “You three are free to go-you did what I needed.” He had no plans of actually robbing the bank, he’d gotten a good couple hundred thousand from a job about a month back.

“What are you talking about, who exactly is your kid? Did I capture them or something?” He was clearly trying not to take his eyes off of Len well also making sure that the patron’s got out of the building, the only person he could remember upsetting recently was Nettie but...come to think of it Happy hadn’t been able to figure out much of anything about who Nettie’s parents where. All he figured out was that there were no official adoption records, which Peter had just written of as a clerical error.

The second the patrons were out of the banks Leonard spoke again. “Rest of the world might ignore the obvious signs that your Spiderman, but I’m not someone who’s easy to fool Peter Stark.” He smirked as the other went ridged for a second before saying anything.

“Karen, disable anything that can pick up sound or video in here and erase them up to the second I got in here.” The last thing Peter needed was any footage or sound from this conversation getting back to JJ.

Leonard adjusted his cold gun so that it was flipped up and resting on his shoulder, finger still on the trigger so that he could adjust it and shoot at a moments notice. “I’m assuming you know who I’m talking about now.”

Peter’s shoulders dropped slightly, but other than that he still looked ready to fight. “I wasn’t trying to upset him, I was just worried... Did I really make him cry?” That wasn’t what he wanted, he had just been trying to get Nettie to see he needed to be more careful. Another thought hit him and he asked. “Does he-does Nettie know that I’m-”

Leonard narrowed his eyes at the other, he had the same fear about Nettie ending up hurt because of his inability to read people but that didn’t mean that he was okay with other people pointing it out and upsetting him. It just meant that if it became an issue? Mick would have a body to burn, the last part of what he said though was what stuck to Len. “I just told you that I know who you are, have threatened you and you want to know if Nettie knows your Spiderman?”

“Well, I’m not all that worried about the threatening thing and-” Peter jumped out of the way as Leonard shot a blast of ice at him as it to make a point, now sticking to the wall of the bank between two windows. “Hey! Just because I’m not worried about being threatened doesn’t mean I want you shooting at me! And yes I want to know! I planned on telling him at some point and I don’t-I didn’t want him learning it from someone else.”

“Don’t want me destroying your bank Spiderboy?” The teasing tone in Leonard’s voice was very much similar to the one he used when messing with Barry Allen, he wasn’t going to try and end the hero right now but he did have a warning for him. “If you upset him like that again you will have not one, but three villains to deal with. Next time I wont hold back either.”

He paused for a second before adding “And no, he doesn’t know.” before dropping one of Cisco’s handy dandy portal devices at his feet, maybe it wasn’t the best use for it since he had only stolen one and it was a one time use deal because he then had to stomp it in order to stop his sister’s little crush from tracking it. But it worked for a get away, and the next second he was standing outside of his house.

Meanwhile a confused Peter as Spiderman left the bank and explained to the cops outside that the robber had some kind of portal device and got away before leaving himself to digest what had just happened.

oh great question and appreciate any snart sninquiries lol but boring answer: no it is not based on any real phone case!! i Ought to be looking things up for inspiration / reference, b/c that’s just helpful for anyone i think, and especially b/c i have no Ideas myself when it comes to this sort of thing, but i’m allergic to doing this smh which is just an L for me, like, i should be doing that for my own sake at least. but even when it’s like “i have a picture that could be a relevant point of reference already saved, i only have to open Files Explorer and search for it” i drag my feet on that, if i’m searching from scratch i might avoid it so hard it doesn’t happen at all, smh

for example my process here was going “okay what color should his phone be. should i add another Grey Thing when his tee & calculator watch are already That” (i think this would’ve been a reasonable choice still) & then i’m like “ugh god what colors even are there” & of course i start messing around with some Blues, which, naturally, i chose to avoid using as much of in this drawing than i maybe otherwise would’ve lol, and the decision to give him any Phone Decor was somewhat spontaneous & hardly a very Serious choice, i am not like yes my hc is definitely that winston would have an aesthetically personalized phone, but since i Am going with that, it’s like, well we can infer he likes Space, so here we go with a moon and planet and stuff like that maybe.....then i had the baja brain blast about any like “give me space” joke variation for when you like space, Outer and possibly also Personal. despite the lack of Real Design Existing, this one is still basically what i was thinking of, the readable text with some sort of stylized / geometric Space Objects scattered around

like again i Ought to be looking stuff up and/or like, saving references/inspiration type pics for future occasions, because i am also always having the experience like, oh once again there’s an opportunity to draw winston wearing a tee with a design, but i can’t actually think of anything lmao, and yknow in all of this it doesn’t help that we’ve still only seen So Many tees ft. designs or other manifestations of his personal choices / preferences, like oh okay great he seems to like to keep his desk clear in contrast with his [immediate personalizing of desk space] new deskmate, unless he’s going ham on a project for days at a time possibly in which case he might have drinks / food around, hard to extrapolate like “what aesthetic choices might he make in a totally personal space / context” lol. but yeah in this case it was like, well, it’s a go-to that he likes Outer Space, why not add the “and back off too XD” element for kicks lol

Warning: mentions of guns, annoyed Berry, confused reader

You just started with team flash and being a new member of the team is hard getting adjusted too. Sometimes you felt useless you didn’t have powers like Berry. Or help Cisco with anything being as though you’re not as smart as him. So you basically the coffee girl and it SUCKED. But this is what you have to do since your apart of the team now. 

Recently you started taking some fighting classes, since you wanted to be ready just in case. In the event you FINALLY get called to be Berry’s back up. But this took a lot of dedication, since your trainer said you can’t have candy or eat fast food. But you fought through it and it was all worth now. You Y/n L/n wasn’t a sad sack of potatoes! Now you were a happy sack of potatoes.

Currently you are organizing files of pass missions and it was taking so long. Normally you’ d go a lot faster but seeing that you worked out. Before coming here wasn’t your greatest idea. Now your whole body was sore feeling gravity take hold of your body. Soon you find current files on Captain Cold and Heat Wave. They are the current bad guys that have been on the radar lately.

Your natural curiosity takes over as you one of the files that happened to be Heat Wave. From reading his files it was not that interesting to read up on. Except for the fact he loves fire and destruction which isn’t odd to you. Or of any interest to you at the moment, tossing the pale folder onto a nearby pile. Then you reach for the Infamous Captain Cold. Your e/c eyes scan the paperwork and find their way onto a face.  

Before you could get a good look at his face the intercom goes off. “Guys I think we got a hit on where Frost and Heat Wave are.” Quickly closing the file you hurriedly going to the main room. Where Cisco and Berry are already waiting for you. This isn’t the first time you were late to an emergency meeting. 

By the time you arrive Berry has gotten there at the same time as you. “What did you find Cisco?” Berry ask now standing up pacing around the room. Seeing the pulled up security footage of two large figures. At one part the two figures burning the locks off. 

You continue to stand looking at the images and files that Cisco has on the screen. “So I just have some alerts from some cameras on the outside of town. I think it’s Captain Frost and Heat Wave. Like who wears a thick winter jacket in the middle of July?” Berry nods agreeing with his friend. “So do we know why they decided to be creeps and sneak into that building.” You ask feeling lost until Cisco spins around in his office chair and points at you. 

“Good question my dear y/n/n I think they are in there to take this.” 

He says pulling up a photo of a crystal on the monitor which as you a bit confused. You open your mouth to say something but Cisco stops you. “I haven’t tracked down exactly why they want this gem. But whatever the reason it's obvious it pretty important if the military has it on lockdown.” Berry stands up clapping his hands together. 

Looking at you, “It’s time to suit up y/n.” Nodding you go change into your gear, as you leave Berry and Cisco to talk. Cisco turns to his enhanced friend, “Hey do you think she’s ready for this? I don’t think she gets how important this mission is.” Berry didn’t think you could do a lot of things and you’ve always proved him wrong.

So it’s not that he didn’t have faith in y/n, or he had any doubts about her. ”Don’t you think it is time for her to get into some action. So let’s think of this as a training simulation for y/n. But make sure she has something to use to protect herself. Since she’s getting used to working out, seeing that she’s lazy.” 

 The dark haired male laughs lightly at his friend from his chair. “I am already one step ahead of you buddy.” Cisco says excitedly, getting up and leaving the room for a few minutes. Then coming back with a silver briefcase, pulling out a medium sized gun. That looked like something from Men In Black, “This is something I came up with for myself. Just incase something happened. But I think this would be perfect for y/n!” He says excitedly saying opening the case, placing the gun onto the desk. “So what is it?” Berry ask his best friend who is currently grinning wildly at the gun.

“This my dear friend is what I call S.U.R.P.R.I.S.E ! I have made it light weight so if y/n is running it won’t slow her down. Also I put a safety on it because accidents happen. And I’ve also taken time to add four settings.” Holding his chin Berry examines the gun. “Wait why is it called surprise?” 

Pausing at the question stops pushing back his hair. “Oh yeah I put a bunch of names in a hat and pulled one out that said SURPRISE.” Cisco announces proudly, as he points to the dial on the top of the gun. “We have the stun which will basically stun any enemy and their attack, freezing it stopping a moment in time and vaporizing which we should never have to use.” He says placing the gun back in it’s case.

Running his hand through his hair looking at the dark haired male. “Cisco do you really think y/n can handle all that?” The hero questions sounding somewhat skeptical of this new invention. Cisco rolls his eyes into his head, ”yeah she’ll be fine I mean I designed it after all.” Berry laughs, ”That’s true I better go get ready too. But explain to y/n how to use it I don’t want her to get hurt ya know.” The short man nods and leaves the room. Before Berry has anything else to say, leaving him to go get dressed.

Hopping off of Berry’s back slinging S.U.P over your shoulder and yes you did rename the gun. Berry takes in the surrounding as you both stand in basically the middle of no where. “Berry you ready for this! Because I’m pumped right now.” He laughs at you watching you bounce with excitement for your first mission. “Y/n/n you have to calm down this is serious. We have to take these guys down, are you honestly ready for this?”

 Your curls bounce on your head, ” I’ve been waiting so long for this Berry and I just want to help.” Your friend smiles at you understanding. He then quickly but quietly opens the heavy door to the storage facility. You both step inside and when you do the door shuts behind you. Leaving you two now in the dark, but not for long until the lights flick on. 

“Well if it isn’t the speedster? And with a very pretty friend....” Caption Frost says sarcastically. Heatwave stands with his heat gun with a stone cold expression. “Isn’t that right Heat Wave?” Caption Frost says to Heat Wave who nods staring you both down. Berry gets in a defensive stance, "If you can’t keep up guys then get out the fast lane.”

You shake your head looking at Berry, ”your witty catch phrase sucks Berry. We agreed we wouldn't do that.” you whisper yell at the man beside you as he ignores you. 

“Y/n I couldn’t resist I always do this. Let me have my moment will you.” Berry says now looking at you a bit annoyed. “Well I think It should be better like-” Before you could continue a snap of someone’s fingers. 

Takes both of your attention back to the two men before you. “ Are you two lovebirds done with your quailing I’d like to steal some things sometime today.” Without thinking twice Berry takes off towards the two men. As they quickly shoot their guns at Berry. While they are distracted you quickly take cover behind a large wooden crate. 

Throwing your body behind a metal shelf, you pull out the stungun Cisco designed for you. The weapon wasn’t tested yet, which Cisco never told you (HA sucks for you girl) you hoped it would do you justice. Peaking around the box your sights are on Heat Wave.

 Aiming directly at him and pulling the trigger, only for it to shoot out some sparks. “Are you kidding me!” You say grumbling to yourself as you smack and shake the gun. While forgetting about the fight going on behind you. “Y/N A LITTLE HELP HERE!” Berry calls out to you sounding tired. A huff leaves you as you keep hitting the gun. “Give me a second the dumb thing isn’t working!” 

Heat Wave shoots at the box you are hiding behind and basically set the shit on fire. Nearly KILLING YOU luckily he didn’t, since you had already scrambled to a nearby wall. Blocking his view of you which made him huff, ” COME OUT WHEREVER YOU ARE GIRL!” Heat Wave yells as he goes off to look for you.

You sigh and get ready to take a break on the floor until a deep hum comes from above you. Now your locking eyes with deep brown eyes, ”I didn’t take you for a little mouse to go and hide.” Captain Cold comments as you stand a little straighter holding your gun closer. “I didn’t take you for an asshole but here we are Captain.” You retort smugly as you throw your fist at him. 

Which he calmly catches in his large hand, ”ooh a feisty one. I’m glad the kid picked a lively partner, fighting him was getting a bit dull.” Captain cold says as he pins your arm above your head. The tall man traces his finger across your cheek gazing into your e/c eyes. It’s like he put some kind of spell on you. And your falling for it slowly before you smack his hand away. “Don’t touch me and we are in the middle of a fight not a bar.” 

 It is like he is staring into your soul, stirring something inside of you. You haven’t felt a spark like this from someone in a long time. And it was making you feel hot, ‘but that’s bad he’s the bad one snap out of it’ you say to yourself.

“It’s nice to see a beautiful face in one of these fights.” Leonard says taking in your features. He is enchanted by you chocolate skin as his finger felt your soft skin. You scoff at him his advances he thinks by a few innocent touches you’ll fall for him.

 “We are supposed to be hating each other not whatever this is.” Making a point to gesture to the lack of space between the both of you. Lennard chuckles deeply looking away from you. It makes you relax hearing his laugh oddly enough he kind of looks handsome. Unlike how the news portrays him but looks are deceiving. So for all you know everyone is wrong about Captain Cold and Heat Wave might not be that bad.

Lennard places both hands on either side, of your body you bring blaster up.  Point it directly at his chest without any hesitation.  His face is covered in surprise, then back to the emotionless expression. “How cute you have a toy to show off.” Lennard pushes the gun tip away from him, you put the gun back at his chest. “I can kill you! Do you think this is a game Captain Cold!” Your voice gets louder he covers your mouth. 

“By all means do it princess if that's what you want to do.” Lennard whispers into your ear. Moving his nose against your neck, grazing his lips against your collarbone. It makes you shiver from the sensation, your e/c eyes close losing all sense you have. Lennard pulls away not before he chuckles at your weakness.

Leaning up close to his ear keeping, your voice low not to draw any attention from the fight going on. “I would but that means I couldn’t see that handsome face.” You say pushing him back with your hand, getting a nice feel of his strong chest. Lennard raises his eyebrow a bit seeing if you were joking. All while your heart is beating out of your chest! You’d never thought you’d be flirting with a bad guy in the middle of a fight! Was it a bad idea to let it happen? yes. But did you enjoy it? Yes. 

“Y/n how did it go?” The dark haired male ask noticing your pep in your step. “It went really good! Honestly I thought I’d screw it up. “ Saying that you toss Cisco the gun. Berry soon comes not too long after you with a red nose and a smell of burnt leather. Cisco get up from his seat rushing to his close friend. ”What happened Berry? You look like someone threw you in an oven!”

 Berry looks at his friend unamused. “Ask Y/n she was barely any help on the mission! I was getting demolished while she was nowhere to be seen!” The speedster says in a very annoyed tone. While looking at you in the eyes, a sheepish expression clouds your face. “It wasn’t my fault I was trying to fix that stupid gun that Cisco gave me! Mind you that he didn’t even test beforehand!” 

You say pointing at your teammate. “I was sure it was going to work you guys. This won't happen again. I knew I should have given you something easy to handle.” Cisco says before walking off to go fix the gun.

“Berry I’m sorry I won’t leave you hanging like that again. But this was my first mission with you and I was obviously expected to make some mistakes. I hope you guys won’t cut me from the team.” After staring at you with a straight face your friend slowly start to smile. “I know I’m sorry for snapping at you. It’s just I see what you could do for the team. And I don’t think I could get rid of such a good friend.” 

You both smile and hug one another which is short lived before your phone goes off. “Well I gotta go change out of my suit I smell like death. But I’ll see you tomorrow y/n.” You nod giving Berry a nod before looking at your phone.

I’m looking for a fight tonight Sunshine. You up for it? 

Which makes you text back automatically. You knew exactly who it was which is surprising how long it took him.

Nothing I can’t handle Captain 

Your body instantly heats up after sending that message you instantly regret it. like WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD DO THIS!? But it’s fine just stay cool and collected. Gathering all your things you head out to meet Mr.Snart.

BONUS

Stepping into a dimly lit bar you check the address you were given. Now you just had to find Snart, which shouldn’t be too hard. Letting out a sigh you fix a few of your styled curly hair. And fixing your make up the best you can, even though you already did in the car. Now you wander through the crowed of people and finally your e/c find Lennard Snart. Seductively running his tongue, across his full lips as you approach him.  Lennard stands up from his bar stool as you begin to smile at him. “I’m glad you were able to make it y/n.” 

And now 6 months later Leonard Snart aka Captain Cold and you are happily dating. You two have your ups and down being that he’s the bad guy and your a good guy. But you two work through it but who says that you can’t be bad once and a while. But if it wasn’t for Cisco and Berry you would have never met him.
