I imagine that Shadow would be alerted because it would bring him back to when Maria was sick so he would not leave Amy’s side but maybe you have a different view on it.

first of all, i'm absolutely on the same bandwagon as you. like,, you cannot tell me shadow would sit idle when someone else gets sick. you cannot tell me something like this scene in dark beginnings would never be repeated again in a future circumstance :

doesn't matter how, shadow's gonna fret. he's gonna be pedantic. not overbearing, but definitely more stern and watchful. shadow has known to make parallels between his current situation and that of an occurrence with maria (i mean, just look at those cutscenes in sa2 !). she is ingrained in his memory - linked to trauma or not - she is always in his mind and heart

shameful plug, but i wrote something in similar here in one of my shadamy fics, where shadow, in a moment of vulnerability, confesses his worry for amy's wellbeing (with the implication his past playing a factor in his instinctual response). contextually, not quiiite in the same ballpark, but close enough to say i definitely share your mindset

you're right though, shadow would remain by amy's side, whether she's come down with the common cold or something long-term. that scene in dark beginnings alone could say that not only does he care about maria, but he's a caretaker in general and therefore wouldn't likely leave amy to deteriorate while she's under the weather

i don't remember where the post is or who posted it, but someone had an awesome hc where they believe shadow serves a similar function to how a medical care animal would and i don't remember if this was part of the post, but i hc that shadow has an ability/sense to sniff out illness before symptoms even crop up. or if it's long-term, sense a flare-up before it hits. of course, it wouldn't help him any with prevention in most cases, but a part of him is always aware

point is, shadow's onto it. he's finding the best way to minimise suffering if it's within his power to do so. of course, he's not going to leave amy bedridden and miserable - and that applies both through inaction and being too controlling. he's going to look after her but won't hold amy back if she feels capable of doing something. anyway, all this allows for him to be able to step back into a role familiar to him. one he treats with utmost diligence

amy however, is so much harsher on shadow. and that's because he was under the belief he couldn't get sick (next stop : denial station ??). as a thought, he was possibly immune to every condition known at the time, but that's the thing, especially regarding airborne illnesses (iykyk) : they evolve. i think shadow in general probably has a rough as guts immune system, so it might fight whatever it is off before it becomes a problem, but if it did hit ? amy's going to make sure he doesn't do anything reckless and instead rests well. shadow probably has a hard time being cared for, all things considered, so that on top of being sick is all overwhelmingly new to him. i think amy likes to make chicken noodle soup and bring him a hot water bottle and watch movies with him - that kinda thing :) she herself is probably used to looking after cream or vanilla when they're sick so she knows just what to do to help someone through their sickness

Yes, companies still bundle consoles with games. And yes, often this means the games come at a reduced price. (Mario Kart World for Switch 2 is $50 in the bundle versus the $80 for physical. When Gamestop was bundling games and controllers with new ps5s to keep away scalpers in like 2022, the games included often would be discounted between $10 and $20 for that bundle.)

Don't get me wrong. Of course less than $200 for a console and a first party game would be swell these days BUT. When you decided to get up in arms over prices these days, did you adjust for inflation? (Because like. It's one thing if the new console you're doing comparisons with the old one is much more expensive even when factoring in inflation. But also like some of those old consoles adjusted for inflation are worth about the same if not more than a switch 2, then it's like...okay? At that point the prices aren't the problem. The root issue is the companies not paying you in accordance with rising inflation.)

Believe it or not YES. Nintendo still does console deals where you can buy their most recent home console with a first party game added in for free! (Listen to me. Listen. In 2021 and 2022 for Christmas it was possible to walk into a video game store and buy a $300 switch bundle that included Mario Kart 8 deluxe and like 3 months free Nintendo Online. In like 2022/2023 for Christmas they also did $350 switch oled bundles that included Mario Kart 8 deluxe and 3 months nintendo online for free. The price of a console for a $60 video game and 3 months of the online service. This isn't some mythic business practice that stopped happening in like 2005 or something. I promise.)

Yes obviously the companies are greedy. They use deals to pull you in to get you to spend more than you expected. They also often have more sales than you're even aware of because they benefit more from people paying full price. They underpay people and they use whatever excuses needed oftentimes to raise prices to keep that profit rising. But it does no one any real good other than allow people to get pissed off to lie or assume things which aren't true. There are so many reasons to dislike companies (esp. Nintendo), you don't need to rely on acting like things used to be so much better in cases that they're not, or treating things that are industry wide standards/issues as something one company is the sole perpetrator of.

Moral of the story, maybe perhaps like do a bit a research instead of assuming whatever thing that pisses you off greatly is 100% true, and direct your ire in the right direction. Ground yourself emotionally and mentally, know what's going on. Be pissed at corporations. You're allowed to be fuckin pissed at corporations. Just please know what tf you're talking about and what exactly the root issue is

It's really freeing when you learn that rationality isn't going to be feasible in the long run, not because rationality is this thing that only Truly Enlightened people get the privilege to experience, but because humans are just irrational.

You can know when you're being irrational, and sometimes, it is in big ways. But pretending like that irrationality doesn't exist or can only exist if you're "stupid" only sets you back from growing. Had a dream that seemed like a “summoned a hero to another world” themed but it started off at the end? I think the people were the equivalent of halflings but only bc everyone else in this world was massive so they were roughly the same size as our hero

Dream started with her defeating the great evil almost in like, a news segment covering it? And they announced that in payment for defeating king, Edmund (her name) would become their mayor

But it quickly became clear that this was not a decision accepted by anyone, and that she would not be accepted by everyone. Som secretary type person was like “oh to make it easier why don’t we have the official meetings at your house so you don’t have to trek out (or have reasons to be in town more than absolutely necessary)” and the house they gave her was like,, way out on the edge of town

So fast forward and Edward is middle aged, supposedly important, but functionally outcast. She is bitter because she never got to return home and has no real friends bc sometimes nobody really likes the hero beyond what they can do for them, and these are a peaceful people which is why they needed a hero who could fight for them. but it doesn’t stop them from disapproving of fighting and thinking Edmund is far too violent

And this dream was like. Edmund being force friend slash family’d by the other town outcasts, starting with the local unhoused angry dude who everyone avoided but was actually very sweet (he had two tiny puppies, bless, and there was a scene during his move onto Edmund’s land where Edmund carried them and everyone was side-eying her bc they thought she was like. too violent to be gentle with puppies or something idk)

They actually had a conversation that revealed lore details when talking about running away? Apparently this worlds people are very dense and heavy and moonlight played a part in digestion (and why they were heavy?), bc Edmund was talking about running away and hiding in a cave and he was like “ah but what would you do without the moon” and she was like “??? Nothing?” and he was like “no you’d starve” to her bafflement and idk it was a moment where it really hit home for Edmund that despite looking pretty similar, these were not humans

The other component of this found family was the misunderstood rebel teen daughter of one of the town’s Very Important Men

Right before I woke up, her family had come to fetch her and she was protesting and it came down to a fight where I think her dad was either going to beat her and drag her home or planned to kill her and blame it on Edmund

I remember her taking off her shoe and getting a direct bullseye on her dad’s head. Like I cannot understate how insane this girls aim and accuracy was. And Edmund literally was like “oh fuck, yes, you go girl” and was the only voice in the room/big hall that was supporting her (her dad, mother, and brother were all there as well, but mother and brother stayed out of it off the side)

Woke up before the fight finished but I think that the eventual end result was probably going to be Edmund, the man, and the teen fucking off together

I can’t tell if it was a side plot or a separate dream as well where they had these like. Cloned/constructed people for conducting air battles that were literally assembled/born when there was need and disassembled/killed when a battle was over, and maybe-Edmund was the first person to actually like. Interact with them and ask if they wanted to live and smuggled a couple of them out. And the majority opinion was that they weren’t people bc they were made for a single battle and had no purpose outside of that (something something so that the regular population wouldn’t have to devolve to savage violence or something)

It seemed a bit futuristic for the rest of the dream tbh, and was probably born from my latest hyperfixation on Murderbot. I remember a lot of discussion on how to hide these people and how we were going to feed them without tipping anyone off that we were now feeding more than one person

favs: maryellen’s model rocket kit (so cute!! and it works?!!!), courtney’s shirt and tie (it’s actually super soft and nice and the tie is easily removed. and the buttons are real!), and gwynn’s skating outfit (the material of the main outfit is super lovely and soft, and the tiny skates are adorable)

i am only disappointed in two things: the bottoms of claudie’s tap shoes are plastic for some reason 😭, and the guards for gwynn’s skates will NOT stay on lol

THAT'S SO COOL !??!?" rain definitely has a collection of the themed ones made for kids, mostly for decoration because he thinks they look awesome, although occasionally he'll brush his fangs with them when he's in the mood for an ocean-themed toothbrush. aeon and sunny are more intrigued by the noises the toothbrushes make and the fact that the bristles move around when they switch them on
