SO. If you live in some of the like, 67% of the US flooded with invasive autumn olive/silverberry or whatever, may I highly recommend you eat it?? I don’t know that it’s likely to make any kind of dent in the population but it is absolutely delicious in jams and makes banger fuckin fruit leather with zero pectin and much less sugar than it would take with most other fruits, all while tasting like a pretty killer cherry/cranberry/strawberry hybrid. I threw it in with some plums and cooked down with 50% by volume sugar added to the blended and strained ‘juice’ (it gels so hard with just olives or with the plums) and you can practically cut gummies out of it.

I used this recipe, and really scraped and squashed the blended cooked pulp through the strainer to get as much solids as possible in there. The leather is plenty firm, but I’m dehydrating it a few hours in the oven on low to make it a bit less sticky!
15/10, do yourself a favor and try it

Keep seeing the (extremely correct) posts about keeping your stuff on physical media - CDs, DVDs, blu-rays, books, etc.
And yes, 100%, do not get rid of your physical media in favor of streaming. I did some of that about a decade or so ago before I learned better and there are books and CDs I now need to find again.
But something that I see a lot of people dismiss is that the digital versions are more convenient. Taking ebooks to travel is so much better than taking up half your backpack, having digital music is genuinely better than swapping out discs
The thing is, it's not mutually exclusive. Rip your CDs and DVDs but keep the discs - you can toss the cases in favor of more condensed storage and leave them in your closet until you need them again. Strip the DRM from your ebooks - you paid for them the same way you'd have paid for physical paper tree-based versions - and burn them to CDs as well for safekeeping.
You can play MP3s just as easily as Spotify in cars and in much the same way, and you can stream movie files from your computer to your TV just as easily. Tech can be both convenient and for personal preservation - you can do both.
Keep your physical stuff because streamers can just get rid of anything at any time, but you absolutely can keep the convenience of the modern digital era at the same time.
I spent several months last year digitizing the roughly 1200 discs that we've accumulated for the past thirtyish years - music, movies, TV - and it was not only the most fun project I took on, it's been the most rewarding because we have movies that aren't available to stream. But I can stream it to my TV with director's commentary any time I want.
#I'm not going to talk about alternate and less ethical sourcing of things#y'all can find that on your own if you have to do that#this post is about preserving your own already-existing stuff

Thinking about murderbot being a rental unit and how that interacts with its trauma
Bc like. The most important bots it meets are all from vastly different situations and backgrounds than it. ART has been valued and loved by humans its whole life - its dad is literally the captain and its sister is one of its crew! And they clearly cherish, love, and value ART. Miki is a less sophisticated bot, but also so clearly loved and cherished. They ordered it to protect itself! And it had the capability to reject that order! That says a lot about the love, trust, and mutual respect they had for one another.
Even Three, another secunit, seems pretty different from murderbot. It was made by the company it’s working for and the vibe I got was that it and the other two secunits were sort of permanently assigned to that ship?
Which, look. Humans imprint on anything and build familiarity. The more time we spend with something the more sentimental we might get about it. If Three was on that ship for a long time, I wouldn’t be shocked if at least some of the humans on board were pretty chill or even affectionate towards it (in a condescending and dehumanizing way probably, but still). And even so, the length of time spent around the same secunits clearly allowed Three to establish bonds with its fellow secunits if nothing else!
But being a rental unit means murderbot went from group to group. The other secunits it worked with were always Temporary Company (will never see them again after this contract likely) and also Active Threats to murderbot bc they’re the most likely to notice murderbot is rogue and be forced to report it. Even the humans were Temporary, so even if there were Nice Humans they’d be swapped out with Bad Humans soon enough.
Like. No wonder it insists it doesn’t have friends. If you don’t have Feelings about people then those feelings can’t be hurt when you’re inevitably torn away and never allowed to see them again (or have your very memories of them torn out of you and erased)
(Feelings about media are okay because the media can go with you, right?)
It’s funny to point at Three when murderbot makes sweeping generalization about secunits bc it’s an unreliable narrator but also. Just having feelings about how specifically being a rental unit effects murderbot and its relationships to others
#murderbot#murderbot diaries#the murderbot diaries#maybe I’m projecting#as a kid I moved every two to three years until my brother hit high school and my mum put her foot down#but yeah maybe I relate to murderbots difficulty with friends#and constantly having to accept never seeing people again#even when it cares about those people#but yeah murderbot had literally no stability in its life at all#and so when preservation bought it and offered it stability#I’m not shocked it ran the other way at top speed#it doesn’t know how!!#so now it’s just hurling itself into danger left and right#also it does real bad with stability#like yes it could hide away and watch media and be safe#but why would it when it can pick up clients and imprint on them and put itself in insane danger for them?

It’s been a year since I last canned anything. Today, I thought I’d practice while I wait for the rest of my tomatoes to ripen. Although canning a small batch like this is such a waste of electricity and water, I had a blast doing it

First Homemade Jam of the Year

I canned 18 half pints of melon jam and I still have 3 quarts of cantaloupe left over in the freezer.

Thawed cantaloupe (with sugar and lemon juice) on the left. The finishing jam before canning on the right. I had to reduce a lot of melon water.

#jentry chau vs the underworld#jentry chau vs the underworld spoilers#jentry chau#jcvtu#kit#HEEHEE. I LIKE THIS SHOW#willow draws#put a surprising amount of effort into the pose symbolism on this one#his human form is ashamed and tries to hide his true form's face. but this makes him unable to see the soul he already has#his true form cradles his human form like it's the only thing that matters#which sorta gives off the vibe that they're scared of the soul. of what it would mean to have it and face the same rejection#that misery sorta spinning itself around into a twisted sense of single-minded self-preservation#because at least if what's wrong with him is something external it's something that can be 'fixed' etc etc#um haha anyways what were we talking about?

This isn’t miraculous related but I don’t have any where else to post this and my sister is forcing me to cause she loves npmd and grace Chasity (I’m more of a tgwdlm fan myself)
Anyways I loved the choreography from this song so I really wanted to animate it, and cause I like Jon Matteson and they way he delivers that first line I included a bit of Richie too
#nerdy prudes must die#hatchetfield#grace chasity#richie lipschitz#bury the bully#jon matteson#angela giarratana#2d animation#the glowing eyes at the end were a special request from as apparently they wanted to do it in the show but decided not to last minute#(don’t quote me on that that’s just what my sister said#slight npmd spoilers but I don’t think it’s that bad#once again cause tumblr is special they get the real aspect ratio and not the phone version#also can I just add Richie’s shirt is the most pain in the ass thing to animate#like I had no idea how to preserve its look while making it way less detailed
