Sorry if I'm being hasty for no reason, but will I get a notification when my fic is approved for the challenge? (Now the status of the assignment is unapproved.) If it isn't, will I be asked to do something with it? (I don't see there anything that would be against the rules but that doesn't stop my anxious ass from worrying.) The assignment also still has the "fulfill" and "default" boxes, will they go away at some point? Thank you for arranging this exchange!

No worries! It’s been a bit since I was in an exchange I wasn’t running, so I’m not sure if you will get a notification when we approve the fic. You might, as it will be officially added to the exchange collection, and I think there’s a notification for that.

I think the fulfill and default boxes are on your end. Did you click the button to say this fic fulfills an exchange assignment when you posted the story to the collection? If not, you can edit the fic to check that box and see if that helps. 

Even if you don’t get a notification, we’re not going to reject any fic, not least because that would reveal the story on AO3! If a story breaks an exchange rule, etc. the mods will contact you to work it out. You also have until the final deadline to polish your fic so the mods are aware that we’re looking at some rough drafts and we’re not going to refuse to approve anything on that basis.

None of us are Ernest Hemingway out here (except maybe Braden Holtby, photographed here writing a Capitals AU of “The Old Man and the Sea”, where Brooks Orpik passed up hockey in favor of owning a sustainable fishery on the Gulf) but assignments have been sent out for the 2019 ALLCAPS Exchange, so it’s time to start writing! Check out your inboxes/your AO3 accounts, and let us know if you can’t find it.

One Week Reminder Deadline!

Hello boys and girls and babes!

Stories are due a week from today for the ALL CAPS Exchange, on November 1! If you’ve already posted to the collection: Good for you! Your writing game is thick and proud, as Alan May would say, and you should give yourself a pat on the back.

ZOMG MY STORY ISN’T DONE YET AHHHHH!?!

If you’re worried that your story is still a bit rough – that’s okay! You still have until official fic reveals (November 15th, and then we go live on the 16th) to edit, proofread, expand sections, etc. We will announce the approximate time we’ll be revealing fic on tumblr as we get closer to that date (sometimes the need for replacements and pinch hits throws things off, just so we can be sure everyone is getting a story), so you won’t be surprised.

On November 1, the mods just want to see that you have 1k of story with a plausible ending. If you need more time to do that or won’t be able to post your story on November 1, let us know here or at capsexchange@gmail.com.

My story is ready. How do I post it to the exchange?

When you’re filling out the “New Work” form on AO3, you’ll see a section marked “Associations.” Under that, you’ll see “Does this fulfill a challenge assignment?” next to a checkbox that says “ALL CAPS EXCHANGE 2019 (the name of your recipient).” Make 100% sure to check that box. When you post your story, it will go to the collection, where it will stay nice and unrevealed until the Mods make the collection go live.

Hello boys and girls and babes!

Stories are due TODAY on November 1 for the ALL CAPS Exchange! If you’ve already posted to the collection, great job! We hope you are getting your Halloween celebrating going. Consider partying like a Cap OR a Nat, and doing some terrible karaoke (may we suggest Baby Shark? or We Are the Champions?) and/or drinking a libation from a hat, jack o’ lantern, or large sports trophy.

That’s fine! You still have until official fic reveals (November 15th) to edit, proofread, expand sections, etc. We’ve had a bit of a shortage on beta volunteers, so we’re still trying to connect a few people, but we’ll get everyone covered. Incidentally, if you’d like to volunteer to beta, send us a message or email and we’ll connect you to some very grateful authors!

Last Call for Pairing Nominations in the ALLCAPS Exchange!

Hey you! Nominations for the ALL CAPS Exchange close July 13th! If there’s a ship you’d like to offer or request in the exchange that you don’t already see in our tag set, you should nominate it before 9 PM PST on July 13th!

Oh no, did I miss signing up?!

Nope! This is just to add the various ships you’d like to potentially read or write in the exchange. Whether you’re into Ovi and Nicky, the Czech Mafia, the Brobeans, or if you’ve always secretly yearned to read about the forbidden love of Braden Holtby and Carl Hagelin, now’s your time to make sure it’s an option.

Sounds great. How do I do it?

To nominate a ship, log in to AO3 and go to our tag set. Look for the “Nominate” button to the top right. Click it, and you can go to a form where you can put in the ships you’d like to have available for the exchange. Each person can enter up to 5 Caps ships. To see what’s already been nominated, click “Expand All” next to “Celebrities & Real People.”

If the ship you’d like to nominate is already in the tag set, you don’t have to nominate it again. Just one nomination from one person is enough: every single person who signs up can then offer or request that ship.

So, uh, when CAN I sign up to write in the exchange?

On July 14! We’ll post the link (and keep reminding you), and you’ll have three weeks in which to sign up to be part of the exchange. You’ll have a form to fill out with the ships you’d like to read about, the ships you’d like to write about, and any other info you’d like to include (likes, dislikes, links to Dear Author letters, etc.).
