A few eye-opening results from a recent CBS/YouGov poll show this: some 70 percent of Americans think Trump is keeping his campaign trail promises, and nearly half of Americans think he’s doing even more than they expected he would in the early days of his presidency. Among that subset of respondents, the vast majority like the fact that he’s exceeding their expectations. Looking specifically at the issues, Trump gets positive marks for his attention to immigration and the southern border and for cutting government spending and foreign aid budgets. Another poll, from Marquette University, shows something similar for two other areas: Trump’s executive orders and stance on transgender people, and his plan to expand oil and gas production in the US. Both enjoy double-digit levels of support.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
To be more specific on one of my recurring themes, voters just do not care about "checks and balances" or "rule of law" or anything like that. They do care somewhat! Many voters ofc care a lot. But on net, relative to other issues, they don't care enough. The will vote it away for issues they care more about.
I have begun calling it "the grand delusion" that they ever really did care. It will change back and forth in this or that era, but overall these systems are maintained by elite norms, not mass norms, and there is no out for that. But I have discussed that to death before.
The other side of the coin of this article is that this stuff is just very normal for a lot of people, but they don't take to the weird stuff:
Yet there are a handful of other eccentric and wacky Trump positions and priorities that don’t seem to enjoy the same level of approval — including one signature Trump position that carries pretty negative associations. It runs a bit counter to one of the theories for Trump’s success on the campaign trail: that his weirdness, his bluster, and his comedic celebrity were part of why voters liked him. That same Marquette poll that finds Trump’s immigration, transgender, and energy policies to be popular also finds some of Trump’s more random policy positions to be viewed quite negatively. “Taking back” the Panama Canal and pardoning January 6 rioters are both opposed by 65 percent of Americans, while renaming the Gulf of Mexico is opposed by a little more than 70 percent of Americans. “Trump’s more traditional executive orders are very positively received, as expected for a president in his honeymoon phase,” the election analyst Lakshya Jain, from Split-Ticket.org, said in a post reflecting on these dynamics. “One of the biggest strikes against ‘people love Trump’s weirdness’ is that renaming the Gulf of Mexico, taking back the Panama Canal, and pardoning J6 rioters all are incredibly unpopular actions, while GOP-orthodox policies on gender, immigration, and drilling are net positive.”
Which I do take for cautious evidence for the "normalism" understanding of politics - most voters don't see things like dismantling USAID and such as a big deal, that is normal because checks and balances aren't important to them, but they don't value all this weird New Right stuff. Which imo is pretty bad because most of this stuff is probably just blustering bullshit while dismantling USAID is actually awful; but such is the world.

Now, today is Sunday, right?
which means tomorrow is Monday.
which means… well I’ve been sharing character profiles these past few weeks every Monday (courtesy of the @creators-club btw)
which means I gotta share a character *checks calendar* tomorrow. (I don’t have to but I want to yknow)
but. idk which one. :/
sooooooo that’s where YOU come in 🫵
Help me pickkkkkkkk idk!
so we got:
Former assassin now working as a freelance hitman—likes frogs. Will stab you.
Self proclaimed “master thief” working alongside freelance hitman—certified Dork, might shoot you, might rob you blind.
Traveling fighter who was just in time for the Plot! Bad news: the Plot involves arson and angering a gang. Also imprisonment.
Bereaved noble who now lives completely alone. Very sad. Also has a lil crow buddy. And is a suspect in a murder case that has something to do with their being alone.
so uh.

And for my next trick....
Okay, Say Yes was updated last night and I just updated Like I Say so.... next up... gotta do something else. This weekend I won't be doing much writing PLUS I need to start working on a very special birthday fic for @kangofu-cb BUT, which fic should I update next (probably tuesday/wednesday time frame):
I promise that NEXT update poll will include Gold Rush, Say Yes, Northern Attitude and Playing Favorites as options. But first... one of these needs some love.
Also ALSO: I legit cannot say how much it means to get kudos/comments/stuff on tumblr for the things I write. It genuinely is the motivation to keep writing. So thank you all for the love and support.

In a just-released CBS News poll, only 23 percent say their overall financial situation has gotten better in the last few years. Asked how the policies of the presidential candidates might affect them financially, a mere 16 percent think Biden’s policies would make them better off in a second term, compared to 48 percent who expect those policies to make them worse off. ...
Students of public opinion such as Ruy Teixeira and Patrick Ruffini have observed that a broad, multiracial group of working-class voters have grown increasingly misaligned with the legacy interests of both parties. They are skeptical of progressive social positions, especially on social order questions like crime and immigration. But they also are uncomfortable with economic globalization, supportive of social insurance, and longing for economic opportunity to be available beyond superstar coastal cities. They are skeptical of professionals and public sector unions, but they also need police, schools, universities, and infrastructure that work—they lack the resources that the wealthier can use to get around public sector dysfunction. ... A focus on addressing the cost of living by driving down the underlying cost of goods like housing, transportation, and energy is attractive to [these] voters who are economically pinched but skeptical of redistribution. Such voters will also be attracted by the idea that the work of government is important but that actually getting it done requires a willingness to pick fights with public sector producer interests like unions and social service professionals (which they assume, with reason, control the Democratic Party).
One could sum all this up by saying: “It’s too damn hard to build stuff” in this country. ...

Twenty one seasons in, and NCIS can still come up with surprises for its characters—and the actors as well! Take, for instance, the March 25 episode, in which McGee (Sean Murray) learns about a close relative he was unaware of thanks to DNA results.
“I was surprised to find that one out, too,” Murray tells TV Insider. Something tells us it’s the last thing McGee expects when his wife, Delilah (Margo Harshman), starts him on the path.
“Delilah is trying to force him to get into a genealogy, track your ancestors down kind of thing, and McGee is sort of anti that at the beginning because he thinks it’s ridiculous,” previews Murray. “And then as soon as he starts, he finds out that he’s got a long-lost relative somewhere, and that freaks him out pretty good. But he goes down that rabbit hole.”
Speaking of relatives, what are the chances of seeing Troian Bellisario pop up as McGee’s sister Sarah again? “It’s really funny that you mentioned that because while I don’t know whether that will happen, I did have lunch with Troian, my stepsister, a couple days ago, and we were talking about some of that stuff,” Murray shares. “Who knows what may happen? We don’t know.”

Sonja Flemming/CBS
What you can expect from McGee in the remainder of the 10-episode “character-driven” season is some lighter stuff. For one, Delilah wants him to shave his goatee. “McGee is very against [it], so she ends up creating this online poll for his coworkers to all decide to weigh in on whether McGee has to shave his goatee or not. And he’s campaigning at work for people to vote the right way,” Murray says. “It’s actually a lot of fun. We had fun with it.”
Also coming up for the couple is some stuff at home. “McGee and his wife have lived in Tony’s [Michael Weatherly] old apartment—with a couple bodies under the floor, we found out over the years—so it would make sense that with all that, Delilah says, ‘You know what? Let’s talk about maybe flipping this place and remodeling this apartment a little bit,'” Murray continues. “We’re going to get into a little bit of HGTV, trying to remodel and renovate the apartment, and that’ll be fun.”
Like us, he’s a fan of that couple and what that brings to the screen. “It’s sort of a nice little break from our regular stuff, and as much as I love our regular stuff, it’s cool to kind of branch off and do a little family story at the same time. I love when we do that. Plus, Margo, who plays Delilah, is terrific. She’s great.”
With the show in its 21st season, the franchise soon reaching its 1,000th episode, and Murray part of it from Season 1, it’s impossible not to reflect on how far he’s come, from probie to a senior member of the team. Murray has been a fan of that growth as well, which we continue to see with each season.
“What’s nice is that we’ve seen a progression with McGee over the years as he started off as this bumbling rookie, and as he’s come up, he has learned from Gibbs [Mark Harmon], from the rest of the team,” he notes. “He’s become a really terrific agent in the field and particularly good at interrogations, in my opinion. He’s always growing, and there’s always that sense of in the shows that we do that that is a continuing thing. And I remember saying early on to our writers and showrunners that McGee cannot be baby Maggie Simpson. He cannot revert to the same character every week without growing. We can’t have that. And they were very quick to want to do the same thing as far as they didn’t want a baby Maggie Simpson either, where they wanted the character to grow along with the show. So that’s happened, and we’ve seen him come into his own quite a bit.”
Let’s see what that means for how he handles what’s coming up for McGee!

Okay now I gotta know.
I am 5’7”, or about 170 cm.
I’m pretty sure I’m a little below average. So, the poll results should probably reflect that. But we’ll see.
Feel free to reblog and put your height in the tags. Height is something people seem to be asked about a lot, and I’d like some conclusive answers.

I couldn't find the article, but I found this one that says much of the same stuff:

Saying "voting doesn't matter" might reach your younger peers online but it certainly hasn't reached Clangus Hargbarg who was part of the kkk in 1951 and still sends in his ballot. He hasn't missed a one.

Fugin Tournament 1-12
CHERRY vs MOONLIGHT
Moonlight: what the FUG… coughing baby vs the unmatched power of the MOON here…
Cherry: I’m not a coughing baby!!! I’m a super scary vampire!!! Old lady!
Moonlight: WHAT THE FUG DID YOU SAY TO ME FUGER-
POLL UNDER CUT
First, we have Cherry Cookie! She says she’s a vampire, but her older sister, Cherry Blossom, says that she’s lying to seem cool!
Cherry: CB’s no fun like that! She’s always doing boring picnics instead of SCARING cookies like I do! That’s why I always hang out with Vampire Cookie, hehe!
Cherry hasn’t appeared on the blog much… hey, wait, Herb babysits Sparkling’s squibling sometimes, and he’s friends with Cherry Blossom, why does she never ask Herb to babysit Cherry?
C: uh, because VAMPIRE is a COOLER babysitter and HERB COOKIE seems LAME he just enjoys having TEA with Cherry Blossom and NO COOL OR INTERESTING MONSTER STUFF!!!
…Next is Moonlight Cookie! The legendary-
Moonlight: ZZZZZ WHO THE FUG WOKE ME UP
…legendary protector of the City of Wizards-
M: WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE WHERE ARE MY KIDS
C: what
M: THAT’S NOT MY BABY!!!
Um. So Moonlight Cookie is a bit strange! Highly aggressive, very little understanding of what’s going on at any given moment! She’s… not usually so family oriented… unless you count grounding Wizard and Cinnamon from everything as being “family oriented”
M: I need to tell Cinnamon that he’s UNGROUNDED from DOING 360s ON THE BED
Did… something happen…?
M: YEAH BUT IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BED
…Right. Well-
Vote whoever you want to win!
