USA : 70% des médecins favorables au CBD cannabis médical

Aux États-Unis, une récente enquête, publiée en avril 2021 dans la revue Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research, a révélé que 70% des médecins sont convaincus que le cannabis a une valeur médicinale. Dans cette même enquête, 26 % des praticiens ont avoué avoir déjà recommandé du cannabis à leurs patients.

Pour réaliser cette enquête, un panel de 1 506 professionnels de santé (médecins, infirmiers, oncologues, …) a répondu au questionnaire en ligne. Ce travail a permis d’évaluer, d’une part, les connaissances des répondants sur la législation en vigueur dans leur État, et d’autre part, les utilisations médicinales ainsi que les pratiques liées au cannabis.

Sur quoi sont fondées ces croyances et pratiques ? Cette enquête peut-elle faire évoluer l’opinion des politiciens ?

D’après les résultats de l’enquête, il apparaît clairement qu’il y a 6 fois plus de chances pour qu’un médecin qui croit au potentiel du cannabis médical, le recommande à ses patients. Cependant, il apparaît curieusement qu’environ 60 % des praticiens ont une vision erronée sur le statut du cannabis dans leur État et que leurs croyances ne reposent pas forcément sur des preuves scientifiques.

En d’autres termes, certains cliniciens n’ont pas encore totalement saisi l’intégralité des éléments scientifiques relatifs au cannabis médical et à son utilisation. La plupart ne comprend même pas la position partagée des politiciens concernant sa légalisation et ne connait pas exactement la législation en vigueur, ni l’état d’avancement des projets de loi en faveur du cannabis médical.

Selon les chercheurs à l’origine de cette enquête, il serait même judicieux d’envisager une formation continue abordant l’ensemble des effets du cannabis médical sur la santé à destination des médecins et autres professionnels prescripteurs.

Toujours d’après l’équipe en charge du sondage, de nombreux praticiens seraient convaincus de l’efficacité du cannabis médical suite à sa légalisation récente dans plus de 30 États.

Toutefois, une majorité des médecins interrogés et croyant à la valeur médicinale du cannabis ont été convaincus par des preuves scientifiques, notamment les études portant sur les douleurs, la spasticité, les convulsions, …

L’incompréhension des médecins face aux politiciens qui refusent encore le cannabis médical

Malgré les résultats des études scientifiques, malgré des médecins convaincus et favorables au cannabis médical, et malgré les retours très positifs d’une grande majorité de patients, les grandes instances s’opposent toujours à l’utilisation du cannabis en tant que médicament légitime.

Selon Paul Armentano, directeur adjoint de la fondation NORML : « les politiciens ne devraient pas se mettre en travers du chemin des patients en s’opposant aux efforts visant à permettre aux professionnels de la santé de leur recommander du cannabis dans les cas où ils pensent que c’est thérapeutiquement approprié. ». Cette enquête devrait être utilisée pour convaincre les politiciens.

Le sondage indique également que ces médecins, favorables au cannabis médical, se rapprochent de l’opinion publique actuelle. Rappelons que 91% des américains sont favorables à la légalisation du cannabis.

Selon un autre sondage, au Texas, 61% des patients sous cannabis thérapeutique choisiraient de se tourner vers l’herbe pour remplacer des traitements médicamenteux puissants, délivrés sur ordonnance. Cette alternative leur paraîtrait plus naturel, plus sûre et plus fiable.

De plus, grâce à une loi sur l’usage compassionnel, adoptée en 2015 par l’État du Texas, le cannabis y a été reconnu comme médicament. Cependant, les conditions d’accès au programme d’usage compassionnel sont si restrictives que de nombreux patients en sont exclus.
