i think i said before tbtp that that was my fave arc, which was an absolute lie. no, this doesn’t count as an arc officially, but it is still my absolute fave and i have been waiting for this for so long.

And I had forgotten the sequence of events that led to Magellan breaking out his hydra attack for the first time. Boa goads him into "protecting" her, which I suppose is one smidgen better than him poisoning a bunch of people just because. It's also another point in Hancock's favor since she plays the warden like a fiddle in order to get her chance to talk to Ace

I like the the logic for not having all the marines coming into Impel Down to hunt Luffy. Honestly I think they'd probably end up getting themselves killed with how crazy things get in the prison, and that's too much paperwork to bother with

All this tells me is that they've got party poppers in hell

Hancock gets a lot of bonus points for handling this whole Impel Down trip well. While I imagine she gets comments like this all the time, there has to be aspects of the prison that reminds her of her enslavement. It's not an easy situation to deal with, but she manages it with grace and poise.

A nice design quirk of Impel Down is that it's round, mimicking Dante's Inferno's circles of hell.

I will say this for Magellan: His power looks cool as hell

Later on this arc Magellan will be portrayed as being morally superior to Shiryu, but that superiority is a bit of a mirage. While Magellan shows more restraint in his killing of prisoners he clearly has no problem with the act itself, and he repeatedly puts his subordinates at risk with the reckless use of his Devil Fruit.

That bottom panel of the Koala is unsettling and ominous, but I will admit that in close up the iron stud of the door looks too much like its other eye and makes the image kind of confusing

I'm not a huge fan of Sadie's character design and gimmick, but I'd forgotten about the earrings and they did get a surprise chortle out of me
