it  is  not  a  graceful  nature  that  wraps  around  the  unsuspecting  girl’s  wrist.  nor  is  it  much  like  that  of  a  viscountess  to  tug  her  behind  a  rather  large  plant,  ducking  them  both  out  of  sight.  but  there  is  laughter  upon  florentia’s  lips  as  she  does  so.  only  daring  to  straighten  her  skirts  when  she  is  certain  they  are  unseen.  “i  could  not  take  another  second  of  it,”  she  exclaims.  eye  rolled  high  to  the  heavens.  a  half  sipped  glass  swaying  in  her  grip.  “do  forgive  me.”

the  music  spills  out  in  warm,  clumsy  ribbons.  a  violin  dragging  behind  the  laughter.  the  hush  of  gossip  or  seasickness  clinging  to  the  woodwork.

where  others  had  seen  the  ship  as  confinement.  adrift  and  untethered  from  the  certainty  of  land  …  florentia  had  felt  something  quite  different.  something  bright.  a  quiet  kindling  in  the  chest.  and  it  was  that  same  fire  that  had  her  pulling  chamni  away  from  the  crowd.  and  from  expectation.  “they  mean  well,  i  suppose.  but  it  is  all  so  dreadfully—  all  that  talk  of  forever.”  florentia  sways  a  step,  leaning  her  hip  against  a  rail.  the  sea’s  breath  threading  through  her  curls.  “as  though  love  were  a  season  one  could  promise.  rather  than  a  storm  one  survives.”

[Chamni and Miran] “I’ll come over.”

“There’s no need to. I’m fine.” It was just a cold and since it was the cold season it was more than normal for Miran to get infected. All she needed to get better was tea, honey and her Netflix queue. There were a couple of things she wanted to watch that she put on hold because there was no time or she was not in the mood. So catching a cold felt more like a blessing than with a curse. “Stay at home. Once Seunghyun’s back I’ll ask him to cook or order something. There’s no need for you to come over. I don’t want you to get sick too.” And it was not a request.

Can you write about Jooheon being genuinely nice to Chanmi for a few moments but Chamni thinks that he is just pretending?

2019

Jooheon leans against the frame of Chanmi’s bedroom door, watching her carefully as she rummages through her portion of the closet for something nice to wear. After a few excruciatingly slow seconds she pulls out a tight fitting black dress that makes Jooheon’s mouth water and his imagination work in over drive.

“You’ll look good in that,” he tells her.

Chanmi jumps, startled by Jooheon’s sudden appearance. Her eyes narrow in suspicion as she looks at him. “Thanks.”

“I’m being serious. Gunhee is lucky.”

She doesn’t know what to make of his sudden kindness. Is it real? Is he just pretending? Chanmi isn’t sure.

“Get out of my room,” she tells him. “I don’t feel like being the butt of some shitty joke tonight.”

“It’s not a joke, but okay. I hope you have fun tonight.” Jooheon pats the doorframe as he remembers something. “Oh, and Chanmi? Just because he’s buying dinner doesn’t mean you have to put out.”

“GET OUT!”

Martin Chambi was born into a Quechua-speaking peasant family in one of the poorest regions of Peru, at the end of the nineteenth century. ... During his career, Chamni also travelled the Andes extensively, photographing the landscapes, Inca ruins, and local people.
