so, about hiro's cellphone

We are told a few things in Chapter 1021 by Satou, when she mentions the envelope for koumei:

hiro's cellphone was inside an envelope which had a memo on it, asking for that envelope to be sent to inspector morofushi takaaki of nagano.

that envelope itself was inside a parcel that was sent to date-san (sent by furuya). it was the outer parcel that was signed with "0". not the inner envelope containing the cellphone.

this whole parcel stayed inside date's locker for 1 year.

satou says the memo was hard to read and was smudged. she also says no one wanted to tidy date's locker cuz it was full of junk, including pictures from his police academy days.

in other words:

1) furuya never intended for morofushi takaaki to see the signature "0". this whole situation is an accident. it was meant to be date-san who would send the inner envelope to koumei. the outer parcel and the memo were only intended for date's eyes.

2) it's not explained why the memo was smudged, whether it was intentionally done like that by furuya, so that people wouldn't recognize his handwriting, or .... whether it was subsequently smudged. if so...by what? by whom? is it accidental?

3) not only did koumei see that envelope, but also anyone from the MPD who would have looked into date's locker, like satou. this includes both the envelope, and the police academy pictures. are there any where furuya is visible? we don't know. the whole parcel was left there for a year.

So what do we make of it?

this chunk of information is full of potential bombs for furuya, in my humble opinion. it's a bit unusual for GA to leave big chunks of information like that without making use of it somewhere down the line.

I do not have enough facts to make a proper narrative but:

There is a fairly common theory floating around, that the MPD has a leak and someone from the BO is in there. if so, have they seen that locker? There are quite a few things one could put together, depending on the pictures in that locker.

it's always struck me as strange that iori, despite officially retired from the NPA, knows that furuya "hasn't completely severed himself from his past". i know one theory is that he got intel from kazami, who is his classmate from the police academy days, but based on kazami's characterization so far, i don't think he'd babble about furuya to a classmate just like that. i am not even sure kazami knows all the details of the WPS gang. it's true, i don't know if GA would treat kazami the same way as the movies do, so we can put a question mark there. but if it's not kazami, then, why does iori know anything about furuya and his relation to his past? having said that, i have no reason to think that iori would look into that locker (he has no link to date as far as we know) it's only that iori knows far too much about furuya for it to be normal, and that locker could contain all the information needed for one to make the statement that "furuya has not entirely severed himself from his past"

I don't know if those throwaway lines by Satou will really be used in any way to further the plot in a way that could be disadvantageous for Furuya

but there is enough in there to be a timebomb

some egghead zolu shenanigans, up to chapter 1080.

zoro staying on sunny, because he knows the others might be in need of some rescuing, and because he doesn't trust vegapunk lilith (ch. 1065)

then caribou, who was travelling with them to get ouf of wano, appears and zoro thanks him for helping luffy before

- it was a small but important moment in the manga, because it was definitely the time when caribou had food on him thanks to his powers, and gave it to luffy who got new strength before his final battle with kaido on onigashima. (ch. 1021)

at that moment zoro was fighting his own stuff some place else, so it's interesting if luffy mentioned it/talked about this with his crew in between wano & egghead -and possibly they made a deal with caribou to get him out of wano in exchange for the food he gave luffy.

still it's something very cool how zoro keeps that in mind so much that he says it out loud here on egghead, the priorities of that's important to him - that someone helped luffy when he needed it. that the food possibly saved luffy in that moment.

and how zoro thinks about food in general, being so crucial for luffy to get his strength for battles and ofc just existing (luffy mentioning the first time they met at shells town where zoro was being held and starving, that he, luffy, wouldn't last even three days without food) , and zoro seems to keep that in mind, like giving him the meat when they saw each other again in wano (despite it being kinda poisoned) "no worries about food"

something that i keep coming back to is this part in sabaody/beginning of fishman island arc, where zoro points out he needs to go fishing. yeah, he could have done anything else, but he was waiting for his crew and for luffy (and maybe he wanted to make sure that luffy wouldn't be hungry once he arrives. despite having sanji there, and despite not knowing luffy would have a full bag of food from boa. it still seems connected to luffy, because even when he gets out of that ship he accidentaly breaks that was on its way to fishman island, he says it again - that he wants to go fishing.)

anyway. back to egghead

i loved this part where the crew basically makes sure zoro stays put so he doesn't get lost, and he's like "i can't think of a reason why they want me to stay here"

while luffy up until then was running around that place searching for someone, when all he could do was check the vegapunk's snail cameras skdjskd. he's catching breath on the couch so much that zoro notices he's exhausted like that (i'm thinking what all could be some gear 5 side-effects and how long they would last, being so tired/drained of energy afterwards his nika shift.. even before these panels luffy points out he just wanted to relax on that island for a bit. hm.)

another small zolu moment - when luffy lost the contact of the vegapunks in his earpiece and feels something might be wrong. and zoro is concerned what's happening:

then later, when they are up against the seraphim, these two want to team up and more hilarious stuff happens lol

few chapters later, zoro rushing to protect their other crewmembers, and luffy yelling at kaku to go with him, but because he doesn't know his name he just calls him usopp, that made me laugh so much

and then there was also this part, in ch. 1076:

luffy making sure if they team up with rob lucci and kaku, they wouldn't go after strawhats or vegapunks later - it feels like luffy is pointing out to rob lucci that he really doesn't want to mess with him like that.

zoro trying to be the voice of reason not to trust them.

but then rob lucci basically threatening luffy and his crew, that once the teaming up is done he wants to get rid of luffy.

i like how luffy doesn't say anything to that, but he looks really pissed off. he doesn't care if rob lucci goes after him, but he cares if he says /does anything bad to his crew and friends.

im only few chapters later after this so idk how that will progress, but im really curious about the final outcome between luffy and rob lucci. luffy doesnt forget important things, he even specified not to hurt any of his crew, and rob lucci still pointed it out they would be dead after he was out of the way. soo.. just really curious for the future chapters.

Wrong Reality | Agatha Harkness & Eve Fletcher | Chapter 4: The Last Coffee

Summary: Agatha spends one last afternoon in Massachusetts before she begins her journey with Eve back to New Jersey.

The next morning, both Eve and Agatha woke up in their beds, with not much memory as to how they got back. They assumed someone had called them a taxi, as the whole group had been drinking.

A sudden phone call had startled Eve, since it was still quite early. Agatha overheard her talking, when she suddenly entered the room.

"My car's fixed!" She exclaimed, smiling at Agatha who was still half asleep.

Agatha grimaced, looking up at her. "Huh? Oh, already? That felt fast..." She sat up, and Eve chuckled.

"It did!" She smiled, "Now, are you ready to go home?" 

Agatha paused, "Like, right now?" she asked, and Eve nodded.

After a few moments of silence, Agatha spoke up again, "How about one more coffee? With your... annoying friends?" She mumbled hesitantly as Eve's eyebrows shot up in surprise.

"You want to spend another day with us before you go?" She asked softly, and Agatha rolled her eyes. 

"Don't push it."

Eve laughed, and checked her phone, "Well, it's a Sunday so I assume everyone is off work. I'll message them, okay? We'll leave this afternoon."

The witch nodded, and sat back in bed. She wasn't entirely sure why she wanted to stay longer. It was almost as if she wasn't ready to leave yet, like she needed more time to experience this situation, to connect with Eve.

Agatha ate one last breakfast from Eve, and they left the house shortly after. The two sat in the car, and Eve let out a sigh of relief as she put her hands on the wheel. "So glad to have her back!"

Agatha smiled at her, as they pulled out of the driveway. The cafe was only ten minutes away to their convenience, which meant there was no reason for Agatha to complain.

Upon the arrival, Eve checked herself out in the rear view mirror, and Agatha scoffed and shook her head with a small smile at her antics, making Eve shove at her in response.

The two got out and took in the natural scenery of flowers and trees. Eve pulled the door with a "push" sign, making Agatha roll her eyes mockingly, knowing full well she would have done the same exact thing herself.

Inside, there was a lit fireplace, as well as some plants hanging from the ceiling. Eve spotted her friends in a booth in the corner and dragged Agatha along with her to sit down.

Agatha smiled awkwardly at them and slid next to Eve. "Hello, you lot." She said quietly, as the group greeted her happily.

"Hello to you too, Agatha." Curtis chuckled, and Agatha smiled back at him, dusting a piece of cat hair off of Eve's knee subconsciously. She didn't mean to be so awkward. It wasn't like she didn't want to be there, but she really wasn't used to the whole ordeal of hanging out with a group of people this way.

The group ordered their drinks, as well as a few small snacks. As the waiter left, they started chattering among themselves.

"So Agatha, are you going home today?" Julian asked, leaning back in the seat with his arms crossed.

Agatha nodded, biting her lip. "Yeah, Eve's driving me this afternoon. It'll be a long drive, but I've missed my home, my plants, my rabbit..." Agatha trailed off, and he nodded in response. 

Amanda interrupted, looking at Agatha and Eve in surprise. "That's a ridiculously long drive, isn't it?" 

Eve sighed, "It's 5 hours, it's not that bad." She laughed, "Besides, we can always book a motel room if I get too tired, don't you worry."

The rest of the meetup went by smoothly. Agatha opened up a little and shared some information about herself, like her strange neighbors. Two hours had passed, and the two were on their way.

"Thanks for agreeing to meet up." Agatha smiled politely, and the group shared their last goodbyes. They developed a liking to Agatha, despite how suddenly she practically spawned into their town.

Eve and Agatha got into Eve's car, and took the short drive back to her house where she left some food for the cat and packed a bag with some extra clothes in case either of them needed it.

"Do you think we'll need anything else?" Eve asked, and Agatha sighed.

"I don't know, Eve. Maybe water so we don't die of dehydration?" She said sarcastically, and Eve laughed in response.

"Right. What would I do without you?" She replied while walking into the kitchen, picking up some water bottles, and a couple snacks, like chips and granola bars. She placed them into the bag, and swiftly zipped it up. "Ready?"

"Let's go."

Eve threw her bag into the backseat and started the engine. Agatha got into the passenger's side and surprisingly buckled in her seat belt.

Less than ten minutes in, Agatha was thirsty. She struggled against the seat to reach for Eve's bag, elbowing her in the jaw in the process. After achieving to take a bottle, it spilled, and somehow also ended up on Eve instead of any actually getting on Agatha. 

"... Are you hydrated now?" Eve sighed, and Agatha nodded smugly.

Agatha stifled a chuckle and looked out at the scenery. Massachusetts was surprisingly quite aesthetically pleasing to Agatha.

"How come you live here?" She turned to face Eve.

"I mean... I always have, I grew up here, and never really felt the need to go anywhere else." 

Agatha hummed, "What about travelling?"

"Well, I've been to London and Paris before." She smiled, "About a decade ago with my now ex husband. What about you?"

"I've been around for a while." She paused, "I've been all over the world. Ranging from Portugal to Tuvalu."

Eve's eyes lit up, turning for a second to face her, "Really? Do you have any interesting stories?"

Agatha bit her lip, shrugging, "Well, I once accidentally traveled to Austria instead of Australia." 

Eve burst into laughter, her eyebrows raising, "That's ridiculous! But not surprising."

"Oh you'd do exactly the same."

She paused, "I would."

"... We're oddly familiar." Agatha turned back to her.

Eve smiled, "I can't disagree."

They fell into another silence, as Agatha looked out the window again, then yawned. She let her eyes close for a moment, and ended up falling asleep without even realizing it.

Hey bro, any thoughts on the latest files with Heiji and the monks? What about that easter egg for the next case, regarding that long lost detective that will be back, is Gosho hinting at Saguru? Or just Shinichi? Do you think the next files could be Rum arc resolution?

File 1116-1118 Review

I enjoyed the case a lot overall. Already starting from File 1116, Ran was getting a proactive role in the Heizuha romance plot, which I found so refreshing and endearing (since Ran has gotten so sidelined lately).

The whole monk themed case was a such a nostalgia trip as well, and I love how Gosho also gave our other Mouri, Kogoro, a proactive role in the case, showcasing once again his judo moves.

As for the Heizuha confession build up, that started since File 1113 (Muga shinkansen case), contrary to my expectations, it still didn't pay off in any way, as Heiji once again failed due to forgetfullness (File 118), despite Ran's efforts.

What however made this quite disappointing was that even the Hyakunin isshu tournament setup from the previous case was also resolved off-screen and didn't remain as a potential plot-thread to a future official confession case setting. However, that very same Momiji scene that resolved the tournament setup also gave a teaser/foreshadowing to Momiji potentially starting to act more actively towards her romantic goals with Heiji. She referenced a Hyakunin isshu poem that bears a similar message to "time is money", where she mentions that time can easily pass by in the blink of an eye if one keeps acting indecisive (File 1118), as if she is planning on officially making her move soon.

This could be Gosho still building on the confession-anticipation momentum from the this and the previous case, and that the next upcoming case could still tie into the Ōoka/Heizuha subplot in some way as the official confession case approaches. If not, then it will truly feel like Gosho wasted an actual opportunity of building up tension towards an eventual confession.

As for the teaser of a long lost detective finally reappearing in the next case, it does fit with the idea of it being Hakuba Saguru (who fans have kept nagging Gosho about when he will return in DC). This also fits with the AC teaser that he will be drawing a vertical double-spread magazine cover featuring Kid.

While this may seem as an immediate confirmation that it will be a Kid case and that there will be no further Heizuha/Ooka material in the next case, there is still potential that Gosho is actually planning on intertwining them again, like in Fairy's lips case (File 1018-1021) & Queen's bangs case (If the falcon elder is Former prime minister [FPM] Ōoka). This is due to Gosho also promoting M27, which is a Heizuha-Kid Movie, in the same magazine as the double-spread, and he also teased in another AC that he will be drawing the Naniwa (Osaka) duo in the poster art for M27.

In other words, there is still hope that Momiji's teaser in the latest chapter bares importance in the following Kid case. Also, if the ongoing speculation that the falcon motif seen with the Falcon elder belongs to the Ōoka family and that they are related to Hakuba Saguru (who has his own Falcon pet) is true, then this upcoming Kid/Hakuba case would further be inviting more Ōoka/Heizuha material (that potentially keeps the Heizuha plot streak going).

While not impossible, these AC teasers does lessen the chance of us getting Rum climax in the upcoming case, unless the teased detective was meant to be Shinichi all along (which I currently feel is unlikely, since Crimson School Trip did not happen too long ago).
