I’ve only been a fan since Harry’s House and it’s quite a ride catching up on 12 years of material but you blog has been really useful, so thank you. One thing I notice is that the old One Direction fans seem incredibly invested in Harry being incapable or exploited in quite a few ways. Like, his managers control him, or his stylist chooses his clothes, his tour is exhausting him and making him ill, his girlfriends aren’t real and anyway are chosen by his bad management. Any time I read those things, it’s a One Direction fan who’d love them to get back together. His solo fans seem to value his skill and autonomy. I was reminded because you mentioned the blog whose writer thinks he’s psychologically damaged. She also thought Olivia Wilde abused Harry and she’s a One Direction fan. Meanwhile I’m here marvelling at how mentally healthy he seems and how he likes to share how he sees mental health. Just musing on how it’s possible to be a fan for so long but not listen to the person you claim to admire. What’s your take on those people?

They're typically naive and very influenced by Larrie theories about PR and sabotage - not that they believe Harry and Louis are together, but they're invested in all the theories around it like paps are always called, most relationships between two celebs are PR, the men are victims of their management/label.

@fallingsunflower (she just changed her url again) was on a power trip last year and pretended to have access to industry insiders who had informed her that Olivia was blackmailing Harry. She made a long masterpost about Harry's body language when with Olivia, and how it proved their relationship was fake and exploitative of Harry.

For someone who claims to have an MA in Psychology, she is manipulative and irresponsible - making pronouncements like Harry has an eating disorder and is much too skinny, or - just yesterday - that Harryween is definitely happening: 'it's just a case of where.'

In common with many conspiracy theorists, she is superstitious and used to talk about astrology a lot, and sleeping with crystals for 'protection.'

i have such a love for characters who descend into madness or villainy out of deep, deep empathy. characters who fundamentally cannot cope with the cruel realities they find themselves in and blow up about it in spectacular fashion. fallen angel type characters with tears of outrage in their eyes. characters who break before they bend, and break so badly they splatter blood all over their noble ideals. every variation on it gets me so good

Danny’s clockwork emblem gets damaged and causes him to glitch and slip through time (think Loki tv show Time Slipping or Into the Spider-Verse glitching). Lucky for him it’s not too random, his sporadic time jumps and flickering in and out of reality is centered on this vaguely familiar superhero he remembered Clockwork mentioning and he doesn’t quite know why.

pathologic 3 announcement made me return to the classic game and finally play it properly! i think my favorite part of the bachelor's route is when he talks to maria kaina (or whoever's in her body at the time) and they explain that their planned Utopia isn’t even supposed to be a 'perfect' place but instead 'the mystical manifestation of a world inscrutable and inaccessible to men' going back to the original meaning of the word irl and instead of despairing Daniil fervently agrees that this kind of unimaginable leap is worth it, no matter where it actually leads

i feel like people are sleeping on the occam's razor situation of how buckwild it is to outright accuse a guy of being a clone of your friend even if you DO have a lot of circumstantial evidence. there's other options is what im saying. they could just be like. a guy. that's a sensible deduction. you should explore that deduction. ignore my shirt that reads I <3 RED HERRINGS.

100% have been perusing your climate change masterpost, and understand you're probably swamped so feel free to delete of course. But if you can find the time, is there any kind of hope to give in fighting climate change now? Can we save ourselves against the oncoming steamroll?

You hang in there too. Thanks for finding the hope among everything else. It feels so bad rn but I have to believe it can change. I hope it can.

Yeah actually I do think there is hope.

Things are going to get rough. Things are going to get worse before they get better, both for the climate and for people living in the US (and for people living in lots and lots of other countries that will be affected by the US election results/the ways the climate will worsen as aa result).

I haven't posted about this yet because I didn't want it to come to this, but now that it has, here's something that people have been quietly saying/research has been showing for months:

Renewables, especially solar, are just too powerful to be stopped. They just too much cheaper and too much better, and that's only going to become more true, not less.

Also, I think (and hope) it's actually inevitable that at some point, we'll get to net negative carbon emissions. I think it's like solar: the technology, cost, and planet all make it feel like an inevitable technological trajectory, the same way solar tech is on an exponential trajectory. (IF WE WORK FOR IT, OBVIOUSLY, but also so, so many people ARE working for it, have dedicated their lives to working for it)

I sure fucking hope that's the case, anyway.

It is gonna happen more slowly and shittily than I hoped, but I do think it's going to happen.

And if we can get to net negative emissions in time to save ourselves (which I think we will, the rates of advancement in many of these areas are very impressive), then we'll be able to slowly start to undo and heal lot of the damage.
