That’s not Hen’s voice. Not even close.

“Mom?” Eddie asks, chest feeling suddenly tight.

She doesn’t call very often, since Chris moved back in with Eddie. She holds it against him. He holds a lot against her, too, though he’s nicer about it. They only call to talk about Chris. 

“Who did you think I was?” 

“My friend from LA,” Eddie says. He’s absolutely mentioned Hen before. Mom just doesn’t like that she has a wife, and Eddie knows it, even if she’d never say it. 

“Well, it’s very early in California, Eddie.” 

“What’s up, Mom? I’m on my way to work.”

“Well, I’m just curious. Do you know Maria Robles from down the street?” 

Eddie bites back a sigh. 

“Yep, I remember,” he says. 

“So, she saw you yesterday afternoon at an ice cream parlor with a child that isn’t Christopher.”

Eddie’s stomach drops. 

“Some little girl? What were you doing with a random kid, Eddie?” 

And somewhere, in the back of Eddie’s mind, he’d known this would happen eventually. He just thought he had more time.

Synopsis: In this drabble, Lycia's tagged along with Chris and Motionless in White as they headline their Dark Horizon tour, and as she's watching their set-- she realizes that today is the birthday of Marcus, her first love who lost his life by suicide. Co-written with @blackrose-92 x Tiger)

Vina Robles Ampitheater: July 27th, 2023. Paso Robles, California. 

Today we were in California for the next stop of the Dark Horizon tour, Motionless were going to be playing at Vina Robles Ampitheater in Paso Robles. 

I was backstage, dressed in an acid wash sleeveless tank top with “Trust Your Intuition” in a trippy font, with a pair of black sequin leggings, both from Nasty Gal and a pair of my Lamoda black faux leather boots. 

I pull my hair up in a ponytail as I watch Chris and the band doing their meet and greet with the fans who had bought VIP tickets. As I’m getting my camera ready for the show tonight, I decide to take a few photos of the meet and greet and while I’m doing so, I see something that makes my heart melt. 

One of the fans had brought their youngest daughter, who looks to be about four or five years old. I watch as my boyfriend kneels down to the level of the young girl and starts speaking kindly to her. 

The little girl’s eyes lit up with delight as Chris talked to her, holding her tiny hands as he asked her questions. I put my red nailed hand over my chest because it was so cute. The mother thanked him repeatedly for being so sweet and kind with her daughter. 

“Oh my God, I have the sweetest boyfriend in the world,” I say to myself softly as I wipe away a quick tear that had fallen down my face. 

After the meet and greet, I watch as Chris and his bandmates are getting ready for tonight’s show but I couldn’t contain the smile on my face from earlier. 

“What’s with the smile?” Chris asks as he’s getting his makeup done. I look over at him as he’s sitting in the chair, wearing his outfit for the stage and our eyes meet, the warmth of his brown eyes making my heart skip a beat. 

“I just saw you interacting with one of the fans and it was the sweetest thing,” I say softly. 

“It’s all part of the job, honey,” Chris says as he grins back at me, making me laugh lightly and shake my head. I know my boyfriend has such a kind heart, not just to me but even to his fans. 

I walk up to him and I wrap my arms around his tattooed neck, making him smile as he wraps his own arms around my waist, pulling me closer as I rest my forehead onto his chest. 

“You’re so wonderful, Christopher Cerulli,” I murmured. “Not just to me but to everyone you’re around. You’re the sweetest man I’ve ever known.��� 

Chris chuckles softly, pressing a kiss to the top of my head as he holds me close for the moment. 

“Maybe it’s because I just have such a special place in my heart for all the fans,” He says as he looks down at me. “Or maybe I just have such a wonderful woman in my life.” 

I giggle as I blush slightly before I stand and give him a quick peck on his lips. 

“Maybe that’s true,” I say with a smirk. Chris smiles back at me, taking in the moment and feeling content. 

The two of us stayed like that for a few minutes until it was time for Chris to head out onstage with his bandmates after In This Moment had played their set. I listen as the audience starts chanting for Motionless and I hear them cheering as Ricky, Justin, Ryan and Vinny came out one by one. Chris leans in and gives me one more kiss before heading off on stage. 

I watch from the side stage as Chris leads his bandmates through their setlist, singing passionately and energetically as always. Every single person out there is entranced by the music and entertained by Chris’s stage banter, something I admire about my boyfriend every day; his ability to give everything on stage regardless of how much energy he had left outside of it. 

I take a quick glance at my phone as I’d been taking photos and videos of Chris tonight during the show, as they were performing the last song on their set list, Eternally Yours and Chris had roses in his hand to give out to the audience, it makes my heart flutter and reminds me of why I fell in love with Chris in the first place. 

But then, something caught my eye. It’s July 27th today. It was Marcus’s birthday.

A wave of grief comes over me as I remember him and all the times that we’d had together before he left this world three years ago. Tears start streaming down my face as I silently mourn for him, wishing we had more time together. 

At that moment, Chris turns around and he sees me there, crying with a look of shock and sorrow. He quickly rushes offstage and runs toward me, gathering me into a hug as he holds me close to his chest and strokes my caramel brown hair as sobs rack through my body. 

“It’s okay, honey,” He whispers soothingly into my ear. “Shhh, I’m here.” 

Chris pulls back to look at me before pressing a gentle kiss to the top of my head and hugs me tightly, letting his warmth comfort me. I finally calm down after a few minutes, Chris caressing my face with his hands. 

“What’s wrong, my sweet Lycia? What’s got you crying like this?” He murmured as he now looks into my red-rimmed eyes. 

I sniffle and look up into Chris’s strong chocolate brown eyes, I open my mouth to say something but the words get caught in my throat. I feel him place one of his black painted fingers under my chin and tilt my head up so he can look into my eyes with a gentle gaze, not wanting to pressure me into talking if I don’t want to. 

“Today… Is Marcus’s birthday,” I finally say in a soft voice. Chris’s expression immediately changes as he realizes why I’m so upset. He envelops me in a hug, rubbing circles on my back in an effort to comfort me. 

And it remains

With me to this day

No matter what I do

This scar will never fade

“Oh, baby,” He whispers as he kisses my forehead. Chris pulls away and cups my face with both of his hands, wiping away any remaining tears from my eyes and cheeks with his thumbs before pressing his forehead against mine. 

“I’m so sorry,” He murmurs against my skin as he closes his eyes, taking a deep breath to try and compose himself around my emotions. He opens his eyes again and looks into my yellow-green hazel ones as he gives me a smile filled with compassion and love. “I know you miss him very much.” 

I let out a little sob but nod in agreement, unable to speak past the lump in my throat as I close my eyes and lean into Chris’s touch as I feel his warmth enveloping me like a blanket. Chris hugs me tightly once again before he takes my hand and leads me to the tour bus. 

Once we reach the tour bus, Chris gently guides me inside and over to a seat. He crouches down in front of me and wipes away a stray tear from my face before giving me a soft smile. Chris looks into my eyes, his brow furrowing in concern as he caresses my cheek. 

“Hey. I’m here for you, okay? I want to help you in any way that I can. Tell me what I can do,” He says in a gentle voice, his thumb gently brushing against my skin. 

I shake my head as tears start streaming down my face again, feeling overwhelmed as it crashes against me in waves. I let out a shuddering breath. 

“Just… Just hold me,” I cry in a trembling voice. Chris nods and pulls me into a tight embrace, pressing soft kisses against the top of my head as he rocked us back and forth gently. We stay like that for what feels like an eternity until I finally calm down and the tears stop flowing. 

Chris pulls back and looks at me with affection in his eyes before wiping away any remaining tears from my face with his thumbs. He leans forward and presses a loving kiss to my temple. 

I make the most of the turning tide

It just split what's left of the burning silence

Don't wait, 'cause this could be the last time

You turn up in the reveries of my mind

“Baby, you know I’m here for you, okay?” He murmurs, looking into my eyes with sincere emotion written all over his face before enveloping me in another hug. 

I nod against his chest before pulling away to look at him, feeling the warmth radiating from him and making me feel a little bit better despite the sadness that’s still lingering inside of my heart.

 I take a deep breath and smile weakly at Chris, nodding once more as a few stray tears start falling down my face. Chris gently wipes away the tears and looks into my eyes intently. 

“Let me take care of you,” Chris says softly as he places his tattooed hands on either side of my face, rubbing circles into my skin as he looks deeply into my eyes. “I love you and I want to make sure you’re okay.” 

“Oh, Chris,” I whisper brokenly as I feel a wave of warmth wash over me as he hugs me before pulling back and placing a tender kiss on the top of my head. 

And I believe

Somewhere in the past

Something was between

You and I, my dear

Chris then helps me onto the sofa on the bus, where he tucked a blanket around my shoulders before making me a mug of chamomile tea. I take a sip of my warm drink while Chris sits beside me on the couch, pulling me so I lean against his side, both of us content with just being in each other’s company in silence. 

After finishing off the mug, I let out a content sigh before turning to look at Chris with a grateful smile. 

“Thank you, baby,” I say softly, my voice still thick with emotion. Chris looks back at me and smiles gently, his brown eyes crinkling the corners as he reaches out to cup my cheek in his hand. 

“You’re welcome, sweetheart,” He murmurs before he leans forward to press a soft kiss against my lips. 

We stay like that, our lips moving slowly against each other as I feel the warmth from Chris and his love washing over me. When we finally break apart, I smile up at Chris and shift so my arms are around his neck as I feel a wave of emotion roll through me. 

And it remains

With me to this day

No matter what I do

“I love you so much,” I whisper before leaning in to press another kiss against his lips. Chris smiles against my lips as he wraps his arms around me and pulls me closer to him, resting his forehead against mine with love and admiration. 

“I love you too, Lycia Rose,” He says before kissing me once more, this time slowly but deeply as I lose myself in the moment, all I can hear is the sound of Chris’s lips as they move against mine while we kiss. 

When we finally break apart, both of us were breathless and smiling widely at each other before Chris tucks a loose strand of my caramel brown hair behind my ear and starts kissing me all over my face, making me start giggling. He smiles at the sound and kisses my forehead lovingly. 

“We should get some sleep, honey,” He says as he pulls away from me to look into my eyes again before standing up from the couch. “Come on, now.” 

After we both change into pajamas and Chris takes off his stage makeup as well as I take my hair out of the ponytail and wipe off my makeup, he leads me to the bedroom in the back of the bus where he tucked me into bed before he climbs in next to me. 

I snuggle into the haunted house he has tattooed on his bare chest as he drapes his arm around my shoulders and kisses the top of my head tenderly. I run my fingers down his arm, tracing his many tattoos as I settle in next to him. 

Finally, after a few minutes spent like this, Chris turns so that he’s facing me and looks into my yellow-green hazel eyes lovingly. 

“No matter where our life together takes us,” Chris starts quietly, his voice strong and sure but with a hint of emotion beneath it that makes my heart swell with love for him. “Know that I will always love you, my beautiful Lycia.” 

Chris cups my face in his hands and kisses me softly before pulling away to look into my eyes again. He looks so serious and yet loving that I couldn’t help but smile as I let out a content sigh. 

“I love you too, Christopher Cerulli,” I whisper back before pressing another kiss against his lips. 

He smiles down at me before he leans back on the bed and draws me close to him so we’re both lying side by side facing each other as we hold hands and look into each other’s eyes lovingly. 

We stay like this until eventually Chris leans forward and captures my lips in one final passionate kiss before settling down beside me once again, both of us feeling happy and content as we drift off to sleep as we’re wrapped in each other’s arms.

They left me no choice.

The animation industry is an absolute trash fire right now, and TBH... I don't think it's going to recover. Not in a form I recognize, anyway.

I could go on all day about the self-hating monster that is the Animation Business, but I've said it all before. Right now, none of the major studios are making much of anything, and almost all of what they are making is "library content". I'm currently doing storyboard revisions alongside a number of other former producers and directors, and I'm lucky to have the work. Once all of the mismanagement and the mergers get sorted, though, there should be plenty of room for more mismanagement and mergers. And the A.I. Don't forget the A.I.

It seems that I either give myself over fully to the souring corporate teat in the hopes that I can pretend that I still live in a world where "the grind" matters. Or I take a risk and make one big push to do... something.

Billy & Mandy vs. The Entertainment Industry:

This is my interview/reality/documentary show on the making of The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy from stem to stern. I'll be talking to as many people as I can who worked on the show about all sorts of different parts of the process. We'll definitely get to voice actors, but the first segment is probably going to be about Billy & Mandy's pre-history and the Big Pick Weekend.

The Upward Expedition:

This is my pick for my indie show. I have a bible. I have a decade of ideas. Time to sit down and tell a story. I want to get some screen sharing going at some point. I'll definitely share artwork as well as the trials and tribulations of getting from There to Back Again.

I'd love to get a Discord server going and provide a place where people can talk about the stuff I'm making (and the entertainment industry in general). I still have enough Billy & Mandy swag left that I'm sure I'll factor that stuff in as well.

In the immediate future, the funding goes to securing a space to do the interviews and probably to banking money for voice actors. I'm still deciding on my update schedule, but it should start in earnest next week.

I'm excited. Pretty scared... but also excited.
