cannot stop thinking about chris's shy hopeful "you'll be my dad again?" like goddddd

so okay. he went with his grandparents to get some space after a trauma. that's probably actually helpful at first. but then.. weeks start to go by and his dad hasn't come to get him or told chris he needs to come home. and then he starts to get inundated with snide little comments from his grandparents (who he also loves!!) insinuating eddie wasn't/couldn't be a good dad to him, which chris then interprets as them saying eddie doesn't want to be his dad anymore. which, in chris's mind is definitely a thing that happens sometimes right? like sometimes your mom decides she doesn't wanna be your mom anymore and just leaves in the middle of the fucking night. so here's this fourteen year-old thinking he literally drove yet another parent away and his grandparents aren't doing a fucking thing to dissuade him from that notion, in fact they're actively encouraging it!!!! like just when i thought i couldn't hate them any more than i already did..

there's something unbearably tender about the fact that christopher is symbolic of eddie's world—his everything—and it’s christopher he gives buck in moments where words may fail.

whether it's after the ladder truck incident, to explicitly giving him to buck in his will, or in 8x17, every time eddie gives buck christopher, he's giving him more than trust—he's giving him his heart on a platter.

like—this is the only thing of worth i have to offer you. this is the best part of me. its yours. he's yours.

eddie has been handing buck his heart piece by piece in the shape of his son over and over again throughout the seasons; i wonder if he even realizes all he's revealing in doing so.

So my experience watching my brother play Doom Eternal has been nothing short of wild and fun. Here's a few things that have happened during the course of this playthrough, in no particular order:

- We've given a good chunk of the demons names (the Revenant is Paul lmao)

-Every time Doom Guy climbs up a wall, we make hurried scuttling noises lol

- We're both ridiculously attached to VEGA, this has been a thing since Doom (2016), but we've now been calling them "baby boy"

- My brother keeps voicing my thoughts about Samuel Hayden when i least expect it(I'm a sucker for robots/cyborgs okay, doubly so if their story is tragic or their morals are wobbly, it's not my fault the devs made him THREE METERS TALL)

- "Who wears the pants in this relationship and why is it Doom Guy?" - my brother in regards to Doom Guy and Hayden, this almost made me fall over laughing fjfhdhd

- Punching switches instead of pressing the correct button to actually activate them

- "How do we keep finding games where Heaven's just full of shitty beings?" -me finding trends between this game and Ultrakill

- Both of us getting excited when "The Only Thing They Fear Is You" started playing

- Geeking out over all the weaponry and the RIDICULOUS stuff you get to do in this game (one things involves Mars and a gun. That's all I'm saying)

- Looking at all the little Easter eggs that can be found in the main hub. Some of them are a riot, others are super cute!!

- Hayden: Is there anything else you require before you leave?

My brother: ...How 'bout a lil' kiss?

Me: (wheeze)

I think we're reaching the end of the game now. Makes me a little sad, as this has been SUCH a fun time, but there's still some DLC to go through after the main campaign! Annnnnd I may or may not go look up some fanfic once we're done, shhhh <w<

eddie calls buck when chris is asleep in his own bed. the one he carted 800 miles all the way from texas without even knowing if chris would ever want to sleep in it again. and he's just bubbling bursting with joy. and buck can see it the moment he accepts the call. and eddie tells him everything. all the way down to how much chris hates chess. and buck goes. oh thank god i've been trying to learn but i'm terrible at it eddie i don't understand a thing and i can never remember how the pieces move. and eddie blinks for a little while. you were learning chess? buck voice. well yeah i wanted to be able to play with him if i ever came to visit but i'm deleting that stupid app from my phone as we speak and i'm sure hen and chim are going to be so happy to be relieved of their teaching duties. and eddie is just silently falling a little more in love.
