3.17 Branching Out

Damien had just announced to the staff that he was no longer the CEO of Rainy Day Entertainment. The crowd erupted in gasps and people turned to their coworkers to speculate about what was going on.

Damien held up his hand. “Please, before everyone begins to panic, let me explain.” Their voices began to quiet down as everyone looked at Damien expectantly. “I’m grateful for the time I’ve spent at Rainy Day, and I have a lot of respect for the work that’s being done in the company. But that’s not where my passion lies.”

Damien began looking around the room. “My passion is here, in this room. When I decided to expand my role at Rainy Day to producing new forms of digital content, I thought I could still handle my regular duties. Now I realize I don’t have the time to continue my work in the E-Sports division and also foster the work we're doing here. So as of today, Sunny Side Studios is branching off and a new CEO will be taking over my duties at Rainy Day."

The crowd once again erupted with questions. Johnny glanced back at Lucy to gauge her reaction; surely she would know more about the situation. He was relieved to see a relaxed smile on her face.

Damien continued, “I want to assure you that his won’t affect anyone’s pay and I’m not letting anyone go. We’re only getting bigger. We’re still a part of the Rainy Day family, but I'll be devoting all of my time here. And this building?”

Damien gestured around. “The whole thing belongs to us now. That means more expansion, more content, more staff members. Speaking of, there are a couple of people I want to introduce to you.”

A man and a woman who both looked familiar to Johnny turned the corner, both smiling warmly.

“These two amazing people are Celeste and Christopher Michaelson," Damien explained. "If you’re a video game fan, which you should be"--he paused and gave a knowing look the to the staff, who responded with laughter--"I’m sure you’ve heard of them. Christopher will be joining the team as my new Production Manager, and Celeste as Creative Director. They’ll be working with us on developing new projects. Celeste?”

“I know this must come as quite a shock," Celeste acknowledged. "But I promise these changes will only lead to more growth and more opportunities for everyone here. Christopher and I would love to hear all of your ideas and suggestions for where to take things from here.”

“Our ears and offices are open to you,” Christopher chimed in. “Everyone is here because you bring something to the table, so we want to hear from you before we add on any more team members.”

“Celeste, Christopher, and I will be meeting with each department over the next few weeks to hear your suggestions and concerns, so please don’t hesitate to speak your minds. Together, we’re going to make Sunny Side Productions really shine.” The staff began to clap and cheer.

Lucy stopped to talk to Johnny briefly before joining Damien, Celeste, and Christopher in a planning meeting. "You have nothing to worry about," she promised him, seeming to have noticed his apprehension. "This is going to be a good thing."

Manami was raised alone (begrudgingly) by her father Lee after her mother “ran off”. She knows he loves her; just has a hard time saying it out loud. She’s looking forward to getting a little distance between them when she starts campus life; even better? She’ll gets to stay at Ward Hall with some of her best high school friends. Her girlfriend Norma’s dorm is right across the street, so that’s a plus.

Finance Major / Feng Recipient / Foxbury

Norma’s been an entrepreneur since she opened her first lemonade stand. She swept the cookie drive every year. Simply put, she likes money – her papi Dusk has been a construction foreman for years, and her mama Teal is a tech analyst at a call center (but that’s didn’t stop her from having her little sister Autumn and her baby brother Ed; she had them and barely missed a day at work).

Norma has always dreamed of making enough money so her parents could retire and her siblings could get into university. Now, with this Feng Scholarship, she’s well on her way. 

She’s hoping she and Manami can get a place after Uni, but will that depend on Mr. Ayres? Norma knows he’s not a fan of their relationship (shame, because her family loves Manami). Guess we’ll have to wait and see. 

Orion Michelson

Neuroscience Major / Genius Scholarship /Foxbury / Ward Hall

No surprise that the OG Orion is a bonafide genius. Now she has to decide if she wants to use her expertise for science, medicine, or both. She’s thinking both. Her passion is genetics; she is hoping to win a grant for some research she’s been working on through high school inspired by her mother, Celeste. Her mother, her father, Christopher, and her brother Atlas couldn’t be more proud.

As for her boyfriend, Nikos? They’re cool right now. Both of them are focused on their research, so they’ve agreed to just enjoy the ride until Uni is over. Then they’ll reevaluate.

Nikos Vlados

Neuroscience Major / Genius Scholarship / Foxbury / Broussard Hall

Nikos was adopted as a baby; so he wouldn’t be alone, his fathers, Sorrel & Aster adopted two more children. He hoped for brothers, but it didn’t work out that way. He’s come to love his younger sisters Posy & Dearie very much.

He fell for Orion right away; after all, he did the research and he knew he’d never find a smarter girl anywhere. He already knows he wants to live in the lab – now he’s waiting to see what field his sweetheart will choose. He hasn’t mentioned it much to her, but when the time comes, he can’t wait for them to get married; the odds of genius kids are favorable.

THE MICHAELSON

EN Let's take a trip to San Sequoia to meet the Michaelson family! I've grown quite attached to this adorable little family, especially since their slightly more colorful makeover 😊

Celeste and Christopher met at a start-up company. When they went for coffee together for the first time, they were amazed at how much they had in common! After their marriage, they adopted Atlas and soon began to spoil him. Now they've also adopted Orion, and the young boy doesn't seem to take kindly to the arrival of his new little sister.

Celeste et Christopher se sont rencontrés dans une start-up. Quand ils sont allés prendre un café ensemble pour la première fois, ils ont été ébahis par tous leurs points communs ! Après leur mariage, ils ont adopté Atlas et ont vite commencé à le gâter. Désormais, ils ont également adopté Orion et le jeune garçon ne semble pas bien accepter l'arrivée de sa nouvelle petite soeur.

The Michaelsons are hands down the cutest family from the Growing Together expansion pack. Celeste? Gorgeous af, not sure why the hairdo she originally has is the literal size of a melon, so I gave her something more manageable and less heavy. The rest of her adorable family got fairly minor edits in comparison, just some skin details and outfit changes, and little baby Orion (BEST NAME EVER tbh) got some hair switchups too.

While at university (and inspired by his girlfriend Orion’s work), Nikos found himself diving deeper into epidemiology. He lost his birth parents to disease; I wonder would it be to be able to contribute to eradicating them?

His friends, Curtis and Zeke have been trying to talk him into becoming a silent partner in their business, but he knows he can’t participate in the day-to-day. His Dads, Aster & Sorrel suggested, perhaps he could be a silent partner? If the business does well, that’s more income, and it would be nice for him to have something to give his life balance.

Orion is well on her way to setting the science world on fire (metaphorically, of course); she has received her fellowship, as well as a few grants and subsidies to continue her research.

She and Nikos have discussed working together, but perhaps just off the clock - Orion prefers working alone, if we're being honest.

Her mother Celeste and her father Christopher, are simply in awe of her - they'll miss her, but they can't wait to see how far her genius will take her. Her brother Atlas is thinking of moving to San Myshuno as well, but he still doesn't have enough for a moving deposit.

Orion (even though she very much loves her big brother ) believes a little tough love is in order.

As for their relationship? It just makes sense – they have a great affection for each other, splitting the rent is feasible, and it’ll be nice living together and sharing ideas. Sure, their idea of romance may not look like most, but they’ve been solid for a long time. They trust each other, have no desire to live without each other. So, we’ll just leave them to it.
