I read this and lost my marbles for a little bit. Anyone who knows me knows I have a thing about selkies, and luckily my selkie d&d pc is a harbor seal so I have an abundance of references for them. I read this part and decided that Reading Selkie Fic Isn't Enough, I Have To Make Art Of It.

Five things you never get tired of writing

@sealriously-sealrious tagged me on this and how could i say no to chrys? Tagging @thegoldenlittlerose @epsi-l0n @daveyismyloml @gingerbreadmonsters @haradasaya and @vampkuzuv [i’m sorry if any of you was already tagged on this] and whoever who would like to do it!

Setting. I love describing the background of a scene with every little detail i can think of. It’s easier for me to visualize the scene i’m writing if i can see where they are and how it’s settled.

Metaphors! I absolutely adore writing metaphors. I like comparing stuff that has nothing to do with what i’m talking about and making it sound good. 

Emotions. I like describing emotions because it makes it easier for the reader to understand what the character is feeling. Plus, that’s where i can use metaphors.

Actions. Actions are what i write the most and they’re always really fun to do. I like thinking about all the little details a character does and writing each of their movements even if they’re really subtle.

Physical Touch. It feels intimate and sweet between two characters [or more] to have physical touch, despite of their relationship with the other. 

I’m tired i don’t even write that much anymore which sucks but this was really fun to do! Thank you for tagging me Chrys <3

tagged by the wonderful @sealriously-sealrious (i’m so fucking excited for their david/hux fic holy shit). i’m tagging @gingerbreadmonsters @thesunandmoons-blog @epsi-l0n and whoever else wants to do it

i figured since chrys posted a wip of the fic that i’m feral about, i should post a segment of the fic they’re excited about. it’s vega/darlin smut. y’all had to have known this was coming. tw for male darlin and sub vega. nothing explicit in this wip, just suggestive, but read at your own discretion.

When he had reached into the shifter’s mind, when he let his voice be heard, he hadn’t anticipated the offer he had been given. Initially, he wasn’t even planning on accepting the proposition.

In his defense, the shifter’s pitch had been compelling.

“I need to blow off some steam,” he had explained. “It’s a hassle trying to seek people out for that, especially when I look like this.”

“Attractive?” Vega had asked. Although his question had been genuine, the shifter snorted.

“Ha, sure, let’s go with that. Like I was saying, though, it’s annoying having to find new people every few nights. Plus, I’m not the gentlest lover, you could say. Not recently, anyway.” That rage and betrayal surged within him again before being tamped down to a low, constant simmer. “You need sadism. You feed on it. I need someone to receive my sadism, and to help me find release. The way I see it, we could help each other.”

All things considered, Vega wasn’t going to say no to that. As prideful and cold as he tended to be, he wasn’t opposed to physical pleasure every now and again. He’d also be getting consistent free meals, consensually. While he didn’t really care about permission when it came to feeding normally, this would at least keep the Department off his ass. It was about time he took on a new charge, anyway.

He’d accepted, and the shifter assured him they’d be in touch. He wasn’t sure how he planned to contact him, honestly. Wolf shifters were excellent trackers by nature, but tracking prey was far different from tracking demons. Even still, a few nights later, sitting on the ledge of a bridge Vega often frequented to look out at the stars, was the strange shifter he had decided to indulge.

“Hey,” he said simply, sliding down off the ledge and making his way toward Vega. “Figured I’d find you here. You busy tonight?” Vega couldn’t help the soft chuckle he let out into their head.

“No more than usual,” he told them. “Looking for some relief, Darling?”

“Figured that much was obvious,” Darling huffed, although the smirk on their face betrayed their excitement. “C’mon. We can go to my place. It sucks, but it’s got a mattress for me to throw you down onto.”

five things i never get tired of writing <3

waaahhh thank you for the tags!! tagged by my darlings chrys @sealriously-sealrious , frenchie @frenchiefitzhere , and beans @glassbearclock - i can't remember who has and hasn't played yet, so open tags for this one!! go on, i dare you 😈😈

1. INTERNAL MONOLOGUES. I WILL NEVER STOP WRITING INTERNAL MONOLOGUES. YOU LITERALLY CANNOT MAKE ME. 🔫🔫🔫 in all seriousness i adore writing these - especially from character povs just because of that extra meta layer, but i just love digging into the character voice and really going for it, you know?? describing the environment and what’s going on through a specific perspective is always top tier in my mind, and i find that it can be REALLY powerful if you get the balance right. my favourite thing to do with these is definitely mindbreaks and crisis states (in the style of mad or sublime or rebel flesh), but it’s just as fun to be totally dizzy with it as well (a la body contact and a ring on the carousel) 💕💕💕

2. UNRELIABLE NARRATORS!!! playing with perspective, deliberately withholding or distorting information, being highly ambiguous, implying information but not stating it outright, actually straight up lying to the reader...... i'm telling you, that's what keeps me going 🥰🥰🥰 it’s so unbelievably satisfying if i can get it right, and i feel like it adds a lovely layer of uncertainty and ambiguity for the reader that can really whack it up to 11 - i think my best examples are probably motion capture and one more paradox, just bc my main goal was to make you shout at the screen like “come on, you idiot, it’s right there!!!” and i think i managed to nail it hehe

3. making up lore - this will be exactly no surprise if you’ve read SOUL MATE or i shall be mr seek (or indeed if you’ve ever read one of my lore theory posts), but i ADORE coming up with canon-compliant hcs and slotting them into existing lore 😍😍😍 presenting canon events in a new context, adding more background information to flesh out a character who might be a little thin on the ground in the origin story department, coming up with pseudoscientific justifications for canon events or abilities, in the style of sodium laureth sulphate and study session 01...... ooh, it’s my bread and butter, it really is.

4. i actually really enjoy writing dialogue, but ONLY for certain characters - if the voice makes sense to me, and i feel like i have a decent handle on the character?? give me gavin or milo and *chef's kiss* the dialogue writes itself babeyyy 🤩🤩 i know get in, loser! is really, REALLY long for me but i had virtually no trouble writing any of the dialogue, because his voice comes quite naturally to me, so his back-and-forth with freelancer was a total walk in the park - contrast to my ash and william wips, which have been sitting in google docs hell for months because i just CANNOT get the voices right [head in hands]

5. like.... the end??? this will make sense in a minute: basically all of my fics finish the same way, with a few longer, metaphor-heavy, run-on-sentence-filled paragraphs that fiddle with the pace and are full of callbacks to earlier phrases or imagery - idk how to explain it, but if you've ever read any of my writing then you've definitely seen it before! writing the end of a fic is always one of my favourite bits bc i get to pack in all those lovely callbacks and huge, overblown metaphors that i’ve been building to - see the wedding imagery at the end of mad or sublime, or the bit about what ‘mate’ means at the end of SWEET TALK - and i get to use all those really cool lines i’ve come up with while i was writing something else lmao 🤡🤡 that lovely suspension and freefall that comes with the long stretch of emotional imagery, followed by a nice quick sucker punch of an ending?? i will never give this up i'm sorry <3

5. i think i feel the most like myself with sunny (thesunandmoons-blog), chrys (sealriously-sealrious), and morgan (morgansplace) because they’ve all gone a long way to make me feel loved, supported, and seen, and they’re endlessly encouraging me to just be me. every day i’m reminded that they’re in my corner, and that’s done wonders for my self esteem!

10. i’m very excited for the creative writing class i’m taking this semester! as a graduate assistant/ga teacher i have to take a certain amount of hours, so i decided to take an easy creative writing class just so i could meet the credit requirement. it’s already a lot of fun!!

21. i think about this a lot. like, a lot. i think i’d have to tell my past self not to let the things that i was taught keep me from loving myself as i truly am. if i’d accepted who i was years ago, i’d have avoided a lot of internal conflict, trauma, and self-loathing from my gender and sexuality. i have no idea if little me would have been ready to hear that, though, so it’s probably for the best that i can’t go back and talk to myself lol.
