i agree with all your takes about ck and especially about how they did robby so so dirty, so i'm just curious, what do you think a good ending/arc for him would look like? like where would he be, what would he end up doing for his career, what would be a good conclusion for his character?
It depends on how far back we’re taking this. Actually meaningfully developing his relationship with Johnny on screen, and letting him retain his relationship with Daniel on screen, would have gone a long way in making the ending he did get palatable to me. If his little speech to Johnny actually felt earned in anyway, I would have found it moving. I would still think the whole influencer side of it was just really fucking stupid lol, but if it actually felt like he did have family and he did have people who loved him and prioritized him, it would be fine. Bc as it is it just feels like they slapped a few hundred thousand dollar bandaid on his life and said “hey he’s rich now, so you have to be happy!” 😒
But given that’s all been a lost cause for a while now, I suppose what I actually expected and wanted was for him to become a Miyagi-Do sensei. I always knew Robby wouldn’t win the Sekai Taikai and that’s fine. Would it be nice to see him win something for once? Sure, but it’s never been a priority to me. Mentoring Kenny seemed to be where Robby really shined, and he’s also the only student we’ve ever seen actually teach anyone. I think Daniel seeing his promise through to Amanda and actually retiring from teaching karate (bc obviously karate itself will always be a part of his life) and having Robby take over as sensei would have been a really full-circle conclusion to his arc, as well as bringing it all back around to his relationship with Daniel and what brought him into this world in the first place. It’s not as flashy as wealthy karate influencer, but that’s never been Robby, anyway.

ngl i dont like complaining but i’m a bit upset about how quickly we jumped over from tory’s mom dying to… keenry relationship drama. im seriously peeved about how many people are boiling tory and robby’s characters down to being romantic partners, and i don’t think the writers understand how leaning so heavily on keenry weakens both the individual journeys robby and tory go on — robby with his father/role as miyagi do’s captain/brotherhood with miguel/running in 2nd place, and tory with her mother/role as ck’s captain/relationship with kreese/betrayal of her friends. they CANNOT AND SHOULD NOT be each other’s personal saviors; they HAVE TO SAVE THEMSELVES.

no offence but are you telling me that some people genuinely don't understand why they would use a scene from miguel's first tournament win, one where he was focused on winning at all cost, full of anger and fought dirty as a flashback during miguel's sekai taikai fight where he was told and shown to understand he can't go into a fight filled with anger or wanting revenge, acknowledged that he's going to fight for himself and how far he's come along with honouring everything johnny taught him, was told repeatedly that winning and point scoring isn't everything and to put everything out there, the good and the bad and just do his best and when fighting against axel, he fought clean and won fair and square.

what they did with jj maybank, is the same thing they did to tory nichols. they give each character more bullshit to deal with each season, whether it’s an abusive parent or a sick parent or assault and they amp it up to 11. so us as the viewers focus on their experiences and not their blatantly obvious faults and don’t hold them accountable for the many things they did wrong.
because in the end they don’t want the character to grow and instead make them look like they cannot do anything wrong.

why do you think the writers never bothered to develop the relationship between johnny and robby? and if they were never going to develop it, they could have at least kept robby and daniel's dynamic, but they dropped it like it was nothing
I think it’s for the same reason a lot of the big moments in this show are “resolved” off screen—they don’t know how to do it, and they don’t care enough to try. These guys constantly write themselves into corners and then can’t figure out how to write themselves out if it, so they pretend like the walls were just never there to begin with. It’s bad, lazy writing and I don’t say that lightly.

Matthias isn't my favorite character, but his personality and growth holds my heart.
His deeply religious background and how he tries so hard to keep his faith. His love for someone whose always been deemed "unnatural" in his world. His inner war with himself as he tries to balance his beliefs and nina.
it's beautiful towards the end, when he finally finds a way to merge his beliefs. I think I can read that chapter over and over again because it had been a long time coming and boom he had that revelation. It's beautiful.
how beliefs that encourage hatred and division can be altered to something that breeds love. it's a matter of perspective in religion. religion can be used to aid conquest, commit murders, everything and more. but it can also be used to spread love. Matthias is proof of that, he never got to spread his new revelations but the fact that he had them showed that change was possible. showed hope for a future not built on hatred and religious justification.
his story is one of hope to me. that one day religions can stop being used as tools of hate. that people can change. that people are not stuck in a box. that people can learn that there are no "unnatural" people and there just are people.
