Dogmanber Day 11: Cat Kid Comic Club + Bonus

For this day, I inserted Brandon into Chapter 5 of the first book of Cat Kid Comic Club. And well…here it is…

At night, Brandon slowly trudged back to the camper, exhausted from work. He was still trying to earn himself a work-at-home pass from the boss, who promised him it’ll be decided tomorrow. All Brandon wanted to do was be at the camper to help Flippy with the baby frogs. 

And as he was leaving the office, he received a call from the fish himself, who asked him to come home quickly. “Good lord, he worries too much!” Brandon exclaimed to himself, approaching the camper. “It better not be about the comic club for this week…” 

Brandon rang the doorbell, and almost immediately, the door was opened by Flippy. “Oh I am so glad you’re here Brandon!” Flippy felt relieved to see the man, who entered inside. “What’s wrong this time, Flippy…?” Brandon asked, as he and the fish, after dropping off his work bag by the couch, entered the kitchen. 

“It’s the kids.” 

Good grief…Brandon thought as he grabbed a can of coffee from the fridge. He also grabbed a packet of tea for Flippy, who obviously needed it. 

“I think…I think they’re disturbed…” Flippy shared his thoughts with Brandon as they went back to the couch with their drinks. “Oh tell me about it…” Brandon spoke sarcastically, before looking around. “Where are the kids anyways? And where’s Junior?” 

“They’re in the bowling alley downstairs.” 

Brandon nearly spit out his coffee. “You had a bowling alley this whole time?!” Brandon stared at Flippy, who glared back at him. “THAT’S NOT THE POINT! IT’S THE COMICS THEY HAVE MADE TODAY!” Flippy yelled, picking up the said comics off the coffee table. 

“They’re filled with violence-“ 

Brandon raised an eyebrow. 

“-and potty humour…” 

Brandon then frowned. 

“And…and…” Flippy was on the verge of crying. He moved closer to Brandon, who leaned a bit in return. 

“and one of them…is about death.” 

Brandon recoiled back in shock while Flippy bursted into his tears. “Okay…How about I read these comics and see what I think of them?” Brandon awkwardly patted Flippy’s metallic body. 

“……Yes…” 

A few moments later, Brandon was chuckling to himself. “Pffft…Monster cheese…” Flippy stared at the news editor in disbelief. “This are actually pretty good!” Brandon grinned as he closed the comic book. 

“And…I think you’re overreacting, Flip.” 

“OVERREACTING?! What about the violence? What about the potty jokes?! What about the reckless disregard for the sanctity of life and stuff?!?” Flippy questioned. 

Brandon covered the fish’s pincer with his gloved hands. 

“Flippy. That’s normal.” 

“Wha-“ Brandon placed his finger on his lips. 

“Adults make stories about these topics all the time. They’re called artists, geniuses, and visionaries. For example, for Shakespeare, it’s all death, violence, and fart jokes!” 

Brandon paused as he finished his coffee.

“If it’s normal for the adults, then what about the kids?” 

Brandon took Flippy’s pincers in his hands again, giving him a questionable look. “Do you really want to praise the grown-ups, and shame a child for the same thing?” Flippy looked extremely guilty. Maybe he did overreacted a little. 

Brandon sighed in exhaustion and stood up, with Flippy following his lead. 

“Look, I know you care about the baby frogs plus Molly. I know you want to protect them from any harm. But you really need to take a chill pill. I’ll eventually be with you to help in taking care of them. But promise me you’ll chill back, okay?” 

Flippy gazed down in thought for a moment. “I guess you’re right…” 

“Good! Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to rafraîchir up.” Brandon picked up his work bag and proceeded to head to the bathroom. “À plus tard” 

As Flippy watched Brandon disappear from his view, he thought to himself. 

Alright…I need to be more chill…

Before bedtime, Flippy observed as the frogs and Molly brushed their teeth at the basin. Brandon was in his bed robe, watching Junior gurgle the water and spitting it out. 

Be more chill…

Flippy read the children a bedtime story, with Brandon watching from behind. 

Be more chill…

As Brandon walked back to his room with a sleeping Junior in his hands, he walked past Drake’s room to see Flippy kissing the frog goodnight. Brandon chuckled softly before making his way back to his bed. 

Be more chill…

Flippy quietly checked on Brandon, finding the man fast asleep on his bed. Junior was sleeping on the pillow Brandon had for him, sleeping past Brandon’s snoring. Flippy smiled before he quietly closed the door. 

Be more chill… 

Sighing in relief, Flippy settled down in his bed. He had switched off almost every light in the camper. Using his telekinesis, he switched off the last light source, which was his lamp. 

In the back of his mind, the first thing he was going to do tomorrow at the club meeting was to apologise to his kids.

Oh wow, you managed to read through it. Or…did you just skip it 😐…

Anyways, as a ‘reward’, remember those relationship chart templates? I attempted one for Brandon and Flippy (and no it is not romantic; it’s weird to make a human and a fish fall in love for me)
