Clarien was an outcast in monster society, doomed to be a sacrifice the moment he was born. He lacks natural defenses like armor or venom- and he’s kind and gentle in a way that breaks all the rules. Even his only friend looks down on him for wanting to live in peace with humanity, and doesn’t dare lift a finger when he’s sentenced to death. 

When he’s finally caught showing mercy to human prisoners, he’s tortured, injected with parasites, and left to die underground. Rhys and Sera, two polyamorous monster hunters, rescue him. 

Eventually, he’s able to adjust to the human world... more or less. But he still struggles after everything he’s been through, both mentally and physically, and the human world is a strange and scary place when you’re a defenseless monster from a species everyone hates...

i am once again thinking about clarien (soft monster whumpee) having a nightmare and waking up sobbing and shaking. rhys (big guy, party tank, gives the best hugs, clarien’s boyfriend) holding him while sera (bard, healer, looks like a cinnamon roll but could kill you) gets some lavender-scented oil to brush through his hair.
