LooCafè founder Abhishek Nath explains how they are transforming public toilets in India.

When we see a “pay and use” public toilet on the street, we often hesitate, worrying it might be dirty or unsafe. But Abhishek Nath from Hyderabad and his team have stepped up to change this. They launched LooCafè, a network of free, smart, luxury public toilets across Indian cities. Created by Ixora Group, LooCafè is a patented innovation that combines IoT-based smart washrooms with a café, offering a clean and modern solution to public hygiene.

What is LooCafé? Abhishek Nath, Founder and CEO of Ixora Corporate Services, “It’s a unique concept for the country. We began this journey in 2018, introducing one of the first innovative solutions focused on public toilets. LooCafé is a modern facility designed to redefine how public toilets are perceived.”

He explained, “The design is based on a shipping container, part of which functions as a POS (point of sale), while the rest houses toilets. It includes separate toilets for men, women, and specially-abled individuals, all equipped with modern amenities. The facilities are always free to use, and revenue from the POS is utilized to manage and maintain the toilets.”

How Loocafé works?

“How we work is basically on a PPP kind of a model where we take space from the government and install these toilets, generate revenues from the POS which is then used to manage and maintain the toilets and employment around that area. The concept of Loo café takes out the burden of managing and maintenance from the civic body and puts in on to a private player. Once we get the permission either for 10, 15 or 20 years for using the space, for that amount of years, 100 percent maintenance is borne by us. We even pay the electricity and water bills. We are one of the first ones who have devised a new concept when it comes to public toilets,” informed the founder.
