oh btw if anyone's wondering on my thoughts about the whole... Natlan thing:

yeah I'm pretty damn disappointed with hoyo for the colorism in the design here. Not to mention the localized english butchering the original names of the Natlan characters, and the only characters that seems to have a semblance of having dark skin (Iansan) not only has an ash-y tone, but also only had around 1 second of screentime. Have I mentioned that only enemies and certain NPCS get the diversity? It's there since Sumeru but man. cmon hoyo.

I won't go in further detail on this since I'm not in the position to fully judge about the representation since I'm not in the demographic that's affected by this, but as a person of color, the colorism is still very disappointing (albeit unsurprising).

I recommend everyone to voice their disappointment on their feedback forms and emails so HOPEFULLY they fix this shit.

(also out of curiosity I compared Iansan's skin color to mine and the only difference is the saturation. I barely get sunlight per day. wtf)

the mdzs manga announcement is a double edged sword bc on one hand i'm so so so so hyped to have a comic-style adaptation that isn't the manhua bc i'm. allergic to the webtoon-esque vertical scroll style + prefer b&w comics to colored ones stylistically. and also japanese manga means maybe japanese anime adaptation which means even more mdzs figures bc the jp figure companies will finally be forced to acknowledge it exists which means maybe we'll get more of characters who aren't wangxian please i beg of you i want lsz at the very least. on the other hand it's big news for the people who watched the jp dub of the donghua w english subs and i absolutely resent that.

Reminder that Sylus was released with:

6 4 stars & 6 3 stars, while the OG3 had 18 of each

No photobooth background. He only just got it after 6 months

No full stellactrum, as opposed to the OG3. For the longest time, Sylus was missing yellow and red— now he has 2 yellow and 1 red. Of those, 1 yellow was a promise card, thus locked behind a paywall and now no longer available.

In total, as of right now, Sylus has 34 cards, meaning that he still, after half a year, has less cards than the OG3 had upon release (41). Bear in mind that a number of these 34 cards were limited and thus no longer obtainable, while another portion of them are only obtainable through the Silver/Radiant Galaxy. So for new & F2p players, unless they are very lucky, they'll have to make due with the 17 standard cards available. Which makes real progress impossible. Sylus is not only P2W but basically P2P. If you missed out on his limited 5 stars and especially his second myth? You're fucked. B/c he still doesn't have his green 4 star solar pair.

The discrepancy in number of memories compared to the other LIs also means that the likelihood of pulling Sylus cards is drastically lower than the others — ~11-12% VS ~30% according to calculations made by a number of different players both on the CN and global side.

Presumably because of his puny amount of cards, Sylus' orbits are locked at level 80. That means that he has 70 less floors than the OG3. This, paired with his low number of cards, means that raising affinity becomes extremely difficult after a certain point, especially if you can't afford to spend a lot of money.

In addition, Sylus girlies need to spend twice the amount of stamina as other girlies in order to level up cards. Why? Because, in contrast to the OG3, he does not have a Bounty Boss dedicated to his prime Stellas (in his case Pink and Green). This means that we have to fight both Snoozer and Lemonette if we want to level up the majority of his cards.

Sylus girlies have been reaching out to customer service for months about these issues, and have either been given nothingburger replies or been totally ignored. There have been exactly 0 meaningful communication on Paperfold's side. No one is asking them to give us what we're missing tomorrow, but we are asking for some confirmation that our valid concerns are being heard and that the issue will be rectified. But so far... nothing. All that the CN girlies have received as of yet are attempted gaslighting and subtle threats. Is this how you treat any — much less your objectively highest paying — consumers?

I hope everyone can see how blatantly unfair all of this is, and understand why such a large number of us are angry and upset. We have been called greedy and ungrateful, but tell me, how is asking for fairness, for the bare minimum, greedy or ungrateful? We have never asked for special treatment, only equal treatment. The argument that all of this discrepancy in basic content is due to Sylus being "new" has never been and will never be valid.

To end this post on a somewhat hopeful note, the current boycott by the CN Sylus girlies have resulted in a significant drop in daily revenue. One can only hope that this will finally make Paperfold listen and rectify this mess, or at least communicate with their consumers,

Let me remind you that while this issue currently only affects Sylus mains, it will eventually come to affect all of us. B/c if they can get away with this behaviour with one character, then I guarantee you that the other LIs will be next. In fact, from the look of things, Caleb will receive the same treatment.

If you as a global player wish to help do something about all of this, I'd highly recommend writing an email to the company (loveanddeepspace-en@infoldgames.com). Additionally, there is talk of organizing a petition in support of the CN girlies, the link to which I will post on my blog, should it become a reality. While it might be true that global players unfortunately hold little sway, doing something is still better than doing nothing.

regarding dr ratio's team join voiceline with aventurine

idk where it originated from but i've been seeing this notion that the ENG voiceline is horribly mistranslated and ratio is much more caring and friendly in the original CN. THIS IS LITERALLY NOT TRUE HE IS JUST AS BITCHY IN BOTH LANGUAGES

as a native chinese speaker i actually really love hsr's localisation and i would like to clarify the misconception + explain the cultural nuance/context behind this particular voiceline

i think this tweet might've been the original source for this misconception? op's translation of the CN line is very literal and completely lacking in cultural nuance. while the sentence 管好你自己 does literally translate to "take care of yourself", it lacks the automatic positive connotation that this sentence has in ENG. CN is a high context language -- aka the meaning of a sentence can be totally different based on context clues like tone, body language, etc.

ratio's tone in this line is not the tone of someone who is concerned for a friend. it's standoffish. when said in this kind of tone, the meaning of 管好你自己 is closer to "mind your own business", making the ENG "keep to yourself" a more accurate localisation.

in addition, the word 管 has connotations of controlling/managing something -- directly translating this to "take care of yourself" means it's missing a lot of important nuance.

granted, the second half of the line is a bit unnecessarily aggressive in ENG. the CN is more like "I have no need for your concern", and explicitly saying that he believes aven's concern to be "false" in ENG is definitely a lot ruder than the original line.

However. in my opinion it's not Too far off base. the way he emphasises the second half of that voiceline in CN carries an implication that he actually disdains aven's concern; we can extrapolate from context clues that he feels this way because aven's concern is just an act. tldr; eng line explicitly saying "false display" does make it ruder than CN but it didn't just come from nowhere -- the implication is already there in CN

this is not to say that ratio doesn't care about aven or see him as a friend. imo the reason ratio is so standoffish in this line is because any display of concern from aven here has the clear intention of teasing ratio. they both know ratio can take care of himself perfectly well. this is just how their dynamic works -- aven makes silly playful comments and ratio deflects them by acting cold.

in conclusion: ENG voiceline is not a mistranslation. hsr localisation is definitely not perfect but in this particular case i feel they've done a fairly good job of conveying the original meaning. thank you for coming to my ted talk

We have been in endogenic system and pro-endogenic-system spaces since 2018/2019 when we came out on twitter and we have NEVER seen this until 2025, on tumblr.

That isn't to say it doesn't exist and we do believe previous responder about posts dating to 2024, but 2024 is still something we would still consider "extremely new" in the grand scheme of "how long we have personally been around" if our additional feedback is anything.

The anti-created-systems argument was always a little the same as the anti-endogenic-systems argument, "[word for marginalized group] is appropriating [other marginalized group], you should change your words immediately, and I am going to completely ignore the like 1000s of nuances and 1000s of differences and also the 1000s of bits of history you could use to argue that [word] is NOT in fact appropriation. I am Definitely Totally An Inclusionist. Just Trust Me On This One."

Endogenics used to be called natural systems. We also feel that the word innate system is just a more respectability-politics way of saying natural system. And now people use non-traumagenic which came out of people trying to force endogenics out of using endogenic iwrc (which is why we will NEVER use the word "non-traumagenic" and will always use endogenic, at least when in reference to singular-origin endogenic systems in particular).

And for created systems that word was "tulpa". EN vs CN: Caleb's Bond (Rain's Embrace)

Let's take a moment to appreciate Caleb's right sideburn and also some subtle translation differences in this Bond story:

1. Leaving vs Discarding

[ EN Version ]

Caleb: You've left home and seen the world. What's next? You're gonna leave everything behind? MC: What are you even talking about? Leave behind what? Ugh, let go...

[ CN Version ]

Caleb: After moving out and experiencing the outside world, do you want to throw away everything that happened in the past without a second thought? [搬离了家里，见识到外面的世界，就想把过去的一切都丢下不管么？] MC: What does that mean? Throw what away? Let go. [什么意思，丢下什么？你先松开.]

In both versions, we are able to gather that Caleb views his ability to protect MC as equivalent to his worth and place in MC's life. When MC mentioned that she no longer needed him to protect her, he instantly assumed that this meant MC no longer needed him.

The CN version amplifies his fear by using the word "丢下" (throw away / discard / abandon), which carries a heavier and more negative connotation than "leave behind". The additional reference to MC potentially abandoning the past (and by extension, Caleb) without having to think about it emphasises how Caleb views himself as insignificant to MC if he is unable to protect her.

2. The Initiator

Caleb: Remember when you held my hand? You even let me stay by your side. Now you're an adult... Does that mean you're ready to let go of my hand? It won't be long until you're in a faraway place. And I'm... I'll be...

[ CN Version ]

Caleb: Back then, weren't you the one who took my hand first and made me become your big brother? Now that you think you're all grown up... you want to let go of this hand? It won't be long till you go to places that are even further away, while I... [当年不是你先牵住我的手，让我成为了你的哥哥么？现在你觉得自己长大了... 就要松开这只手了吗？再过不久，你会去更远的地方，我却...]

While the EN version sounds wistful, the CN version sounds somewhat accusatory.

In the CN version, Caleb basically reminds MC that she was the one who took the initiative in reaching out to him in the first place, and that she was the one who placed him in the role of being a big brother figure to protect her. And now that she has decided for herself that she has grown up, she's simply letting go of him without sparing a thought for how this would be removing his purpose in life - a purpose that she had given to him.

The CN version once again amplifies the intensity of Caleb's emotions where he admits that being in a world with only the both of them is a want that he is unable to control and not just a fleeting thought.

⸜( ´ ꒳ ` )⸝ In summary, Caleb's intense protectiveness over MC has always been present even before the implantation of the Toring Chip, and this is reflected very clearly in the CN version.

He has always wanted to be in a world with only MC and unfortunately not even his best bro Gideon is invited...

okay let’s make this clear.

pseudo-orthopedics (伪骨科) is when two non blood related people, who are legally tied, share romantic relations. the legally tied part is important.

also i say pseudo-orthopedics because i feel like people see the word incest and have pre-conceived sentiments about it. understandably so.

i incorrectly tagged my first caleb fics that way (namely captive bird, which is the one i went back and edited to remove the tag a few weeks ago). but that was not pseudo (伪骨科), as caleb and mc are NOT ADOPTED in it. at the time, i thought pseudo was when you shared some sort of familial tie (found family OR legal) and that develops into something more. so i tagged the fic as such.

that’s why i removed the tag. because it was incorrectly tagged.

in my twitter bio, i put “all locs are welcome.” this means i welcome people who like the CN (or JP or KR) or EN localization. CN localization/trope is NOT synonymous for p*dophilic or incestuous tropes.

i also follow the chinese localization more. i’ve never hidden that. i’m american-chinese, i can understand a good amount of it, but not all. so when i play, i play with the chinese dub and english subs.

i have no problem with the pseudo-orthopedics (伪骨科) trope, now that i understand it better, if you use it correctly (canonically and tastefully). i do not support overtly sexualizing their previously-adoptive nature, both when they were kids (which is where the p*do part comes in) and when they’re adults. I AM NOT OKAY with the sexual exploration/writing of calebmc when they were teenagers/kids. i personally am not okay with adults writing sexual content about minors.

my take on calebmc is that they have FOUND FAMILY feelings towards each other, in addition to their romantic feelings. i believe they’ve always had a level of romantic feelings for each other, from before the adoption was dissolved.

the cornerstone of calebmc relationship, to me, is that they are everything to each other because they are all each other had in a very dark time. they did view each other as family, in the way you’d view a spouse or a very close friend as family. the forbidden aspect of their relationship, to me, comes from the societal expectations that were placed on them DUE to the fact that josephine adopted them. NOT because they actually felt like “you are my sibling” (which they don’t).

caleb and mc have had feelings for each other since they were young (as seen in the tender moments) that would mean they were still adopted and make it pseudo by definition. however i dont care for people specifically fetishizing this aspect of their relationship to push incestuous or p*do fantasies.

they have loved each other since they were kids. kids don’t have a concept of romantic love. so, to me, the did love each other more in a (found) familial way when they were too young to know more. as they grew, they could better recognize what their feelings actually were. but of course, josephine adopted them, which made it pseudo & forbidden.

i hate when people reduce calebmc to their time in a familial dynamic, ESPECIALLY in a sexual way. it oversimplifies and reduces their relationship which is so complicated and layered.

my tumblr and twitter is a safe space for people who enjoy the childhood friend trope, or the 伪骨科/pseudo-orthopedics trope. it’s NOT a safe space for people who push an incestuous or p*dophilic agenda onto calebmc.

if you find 伪骨科/pseudo-orthopedics to be synonymous with incest + p*dophilia then i don’t know what to say beyond what ive said already.

gege, oppa, nii-san/chan means much more than brother than in asian languages. it implies respect, safety, homely comfort—all aspects used culturally in china outside of actual brother-sibling dynamics. as well as in western/english speaking areas. we just don’t seem to have a fitting word for it.

it is fair to have a hard time mentally understanding a different culture, but not everything is as simple as black and white and that’s where calebmc sit.
