Coco 2 is officially coming to theaters in 2029.

Lee Unkrich has just revealed he will be returning to Pixar to direct Coco 2 together with co-director Adrian Molina.

I’m really excited to share that I have returned to Pixar to direct Coco 2, reuniting with Adrian Molina as my co-director! We’re both deeply grateful that Coco remains so beloved, and have already been having so much fun diving back into this world! 💀🇲🇽🎉

I get the desire for Disney and Pixar to make more original movies. I also really want them to make more original movies (go see Elio in theaters this summer or else). But with all that said...

Coming back to this blog after 1000 years to ask, what are we feeling about Pixar announcing Coco 2?

Like on the one hand, I feel there could be possibility for expanding the story, but on the other hand the first movie is perfect as it is.

I need Hollywood to understand that not everything needs a sequel and remember to embrace the stand alone film especially if it’s been a while.

So "Coco 2" was announced...

On one hand... Yeah, this feels unnecesary and as a further proof that Pixar is putting money first.

But... I kinda want to see more of the living Rivera interactions, specially of Miguel with his cousins.

So yeah, I am a little bit interested.

Also... This is coming out in 2029, twelve years after the original, so there's still hope that we could get "Luca 2", even if it is in 2033.

disney is out here announcing hella sequels as if they're ever gonna recapture the magic of the tinkerbell franchise💀 announce ur coco 2s and ur mufasa prequels but u will never make another sequel thats more iconic than the first movie again

Coco 2 is officially in the works at Pixar for a 2029 release.

The sequel will bring back members of the creative team from the original film, including director Lee Unkrichn and co-director Adrian Molina. Mark Nielsen Toy Story 4, Inside Out 2) will produce.
