it always gets me that lelouch planned his zero requiem and intentionally wore white robes and intentionally had a parade where his throne is above nunnally, who is chained, but conveniently the throne had a ramp down so that when lelouch is inevitably killed, everyone can see the blood staining his clothes, he would dramatically fall down the ramp towards nunnally so they can have one last moment together, his blood is a streak on the ramp from his place down here with nunnally, to the throne up above, where zero (suzaku) would be hailed as a hero standing above the demon emperor. but inside suzaku would be suffering a cursed existence. and all three of them knew that.
and thinking about the first time these three came together, it was with lelouch (scrawny exiled prince who doesn't exercise) carrying nunnally up a long flight of stairs to the kururugi shrine, where suzaku is waiting

Which show should I watch next?
For context, my favorite shows/movies are Revolutionary Girl Utena, Dear Brother (Oniisama e), Revue Starlight, Rose of Versailles, Your Name, Death Note.. I watched Neon Genesis Evangelion and Serial Experiments Lain recently and enjoyed those thoroughly! I love all kinds of books, but some of my favorites are On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous, If We Were Villains, and Where The Crawdads Sing! My favorite fictional character of all time is Anthy Himemiya, and some other characters I’ve enjoyed are Asuka Langley, Rosalie from RoV, Rei Asaka, Maya Tendo, and Light Yagami! And umm.. my favorite music artist is The Crane Wives… and the next VN on my list is Umineko When They Cry because I feel like I’d love it. And umm uhh I don’t know help me pick PLEASE (Also, I’m considering doing a liveblog/analysis essay or just a review on whatever show wins, so please let me know if you’d be interested in that!)
Reblog/comment propaganda, it might change my decision! Thank you for your votes and words <3

I'm not gonna pretend I have anything super new or innovative to say about Mobile Suit Gundam. It's one of the most-analyzed anime ever, and I pale in comparison to some of the people who *have* analyzed it, but here I am, thinking about it regardless.
For context, I am watching this as part of a---as she called it---"comet swap" with my good friend @charaznablespeteevee, where I watch a mecha anime she is obsessed with (Gundam) and she watches one I am obsessed with (Code Geass). I'm not sure if I'm going to write a big long post like this about every episode (since I'm going to *try* to watch at least one per day, that would get quite exhausting), but I am liveblogging it more informally over on the worst website on Earth, if you're willing to put up with that Nazi-infested hellhole long enough to read some posts from yours truly.
In any case, Gundam and Code Geass. are many differences between these, the main ones being that Code Geass is more recent and also not widely hailed as a masterpiece of its form. It does *draw* notably from Gundam though despite having very different artistic aims and a different tone, so watching this makes sense in a way. I spent way too much of my teenagerhood obsessed with Lelouch, and now I'm watching the anime that his archetypal grandfather came from. (Goddess have mercy on my soul.)
My experience with Gundam as a franchise prior to this is very limited, but I do have some. For reference, I have seen all of:
Gundam 00, back when it aired on the SyFy channel when they had an anime block many years ago. I really liked this as a teenager but I don't remember it super well.
The Witch From Mercury, lesbian space combat, with a notable Code Geass staff connection. WFM was not perfect or anything but I loved it a lot and Suletta is very dear to me. I actually bought an Aerial gunpla a few months ago that is currently sitting unassembled in my closet.
the first Gundam 0079 compilation movie. Now, it might seem weird that I've seen this and am now going back to watch the TV series. But, while I remember the general outline of what happened, I was SUPER sick when I watched it, and I only remember what happened really, really vaguely. While I have some idea of the general outline of what's to come, I'm mostly going in genuinely blind.
like 4 or 5 episodes of Victory Gundam, which I liked but kind of fell off of. So we're giving the franchise a proper second go here.
I'm a mecha fan more generally, and I'll get into some of that as I write these, but for now that's the relevant stuff.
Anyway, my main impression of 0079's first episode is actually a structural one. It's REALLY well put together. We introduce the setting, we introduce our main characters, and we introduce the main conflict, all very economically and with a lot of style---more style than some shows with significantly less room to work with manage, in fact---and I'm immediately invested in the fate of our main character, Amuro Ray.
From what I gather here (and a little bit from outside information), my impression is that of a kid who loses his innocence very, very rapidly over the course of this story. Here, the space-hab-thing he lives on is attacked, and he ends up in the cockpit of an experimental superweapon called a Gundam (maybe you've heard of them?). I LOVE how the Gundam is framed here, like some kind of genuinely scary war machine. It's an intentionally othering effect i mostly associate with later mecha anime, especially those with outright monstrous mecha like Evangelion or even The Big O, so to see it here in such a comparatively early series in the genre is impressive.
The episode's climax sees him kill two soldiers from the enemy nation of Zeon, but it's not a triumphant thing, really. He's portrayed as kind of not really knowing what he's doing, flailing around inside this gigantic walking tank / mechanical war god. But then when he *does* figure things out, well, he has to deal with the fact that he just killed two dudes. Going by the cliffhangery ending here, it doesn't seem like his troubles are over, either.

Psst, beloved mutuals, if you've got an account on Bluesky, I'm on my second day of liveblogging my Code Geass marathon
The most important thing to come out of it so far is that Goro Akechi would have been 8-10 years old while the anime was originally airing, and no one will ever convince me that this would not have been a formative show for him

thinking about how the other day I saw a screenshot of the comment session for a youtube video of one of those dudes who rant about forced diversity in anime n one of the comments was like “if there’s one thing Code Geass has taught us is that this diversity in Japan thing is a bad idea, cultures shouldn’t mix”
and maybe I haven’t watched enough of the show to understand what a galaxy brain take this is but when I look at a show that had its main villain, the evil emperor who the protagonist swore to destroy, have a speech about how humans are Not all made equal and that inequality is Very good, at like episode 6, I do not ultimately think this show is actually trying to make the point that racism is good

What an introduction to Cornelia we’ve gotten. Her first scene and she’s already brought Area 18 to its knees. She’s a step up from what we’ve from Britannia so far to be sure. Lelouch will be up a most considerable opponent.
And C.C. has revealed not only her name and that she was talking about her and Lelouch’s agreement. There’s an air of cheekiness to C.C. that I really like. She just shuts Lelouch down when he presses for questions. He can’t quite manipulate her like he’s down with others.
Fucking Pizza Hut is all over this anime. Oh my God. Also, a girl just fucking jumped into Suzaku’s arms. Wish that was me. And it looks like Viletta (don’t know or care if her name was officially revealed yet) is suspicious of Lelouch.
It looks like Suzaku and the girl, Euphie, are having a time roaming town. They seem to have hit it off between one another. I kind of like the look of them together. And why do I suddenly have a very bad feeling about this? She wants to go to Shinjuku. Dear Lord...
C.C. is so freaking playful. She knows she can get away with what she’s pulling because Lelouch needs her. It almost feels like a game to her. How far can she go before she goes too far. Lelouch is at least learning how his power works. He’s good.
Jeremiah really gotten team attacked by four other Britannians due to last episode. And Suzaku has stepped in to try and stop the in-fighting. How Britannia gets anything done is beyond me.
Euphemia really just will not tolerate anyone trying to harm Suzaku in any way. He brings out a fiery side that’s been contrasted by how gentle she has been outside of that. It seems she wants to help him though.
And Cornelia has made her way into Area 11. And she’s out for blood. She wants Zero. Oh yeah, Suzaku has joined Ashford Academy. That seems rather minor compared to everything else.
