Perhaps the most peeving thing here is the way people keep jumping up to say, "you dont understand! I just want comforting narratives where people like me are embraced by society, as a break from reading stuff where I have to think about implications - you just don't understand the appeal of reading cozy mindless things to relax!"
And I'm like. Actually I really do! I often enjoy stories that are comforting and not emotionally challenging! I just dont find narratives of assimilation comforting. I don't find it reassuring or mindless to be shown a world where certain people have been moved from the "marginalized" box to the "normalized" box, and proceed to have a totally standard normal-guy low-stakes narrative from the lap of societal acceptance! I dont find it at all a balm or comfort to the struggles of marginalization. I find it grating and exhausting, and it makes me feel *more* aware of the forces of oppression and how they exist as the necessary inverse process of the forces of normalization.
There's a lot of political baggage here, obviously. Without digging too deep into that: if the type of story that gives you the least cognitive dissonance is one where you are - without changing in any way - allowed back into realms of "socially normal", what that means is basically that you consider your expulsion from normalcy an aberration, rather than a sign of deep flaws in the concept of social acceptance. You have not integrated your own experience of marginalization into a perspective on what marginalization says about society. You have not sought solidarity with other perspectives on marginalization, or if you have, it's still with the back-pocket loophole that you think you might, personally, be allowed back in. And that you're not sure you wouldn't take it, if you were.
And I get that for queer people right now, a lot of this is hazy. Maybe you would be allowed back in! Maybe you are! There's been a big swing in social acceptance, even if it's really unstable. Maybe the idea of a world where you, personally, can go back to being unmarginalized is a possibility that feels genuinely comforting.
But if you, or your friends, are a little farther out of reach of that edge. If the nature of society is so fundamentally hostile to you that simply being "accepted back in" would not meaningfully alleviate what hurts you about society - if the bare minimum for a world that isn't hostile to you requires deeper than a surface-level change - than playing pretend with that surface level change provides no comfort. If anything, it makes the cognitive dissonance worse - and makes you feel like your supposed allies are fairweather friends who would ditch you in the struggle if they were offered a bargain of acceptance. Which is very lonely and upsetting.
Or, regardless of how personal it is to you, if you've read and thought deeply enough into history or social theory to see how arbitrarily constructed the whole concept of social acceptance is - if you're a bit aware of the implications and underpinnings of things like family structures and divisions of labor and the like - the kinds of slight-of-hand shortcuts that are used to put those problems out of sight become very frustrating. Again it's a matter of cognitive dissonance: whether the typical fiction/fantasy "stock answers" to various concerns reassure your sense of how things normally work, or whether they raise red flags of horrors shoved out of sight.
Some people will act like you're "overthinking everything" and "actively looking for problems" if you talk about your emotional reaction to those red flags. But no: it's as direct and thoughtless as the reaction of finding them a comforting reassurance of business going on as usual. (You could say, the curtains are red at home. Comfort is a matter of perspective!)
Anyway, it comes back to a baseline of: what ways of conceptualizing the world feel easy, comfortable, and thoughtless to you? They may not be the same as the concepts you would consciously acknowledge, or agree with on a cognitive level! There are a lot of layers to integrating ideas into your worldview. It can take a lot of time and reflection for things to reach deeply, to the level of your intuitive reactions.
When people say, "I know it doesn't really hold up to scrutiny, but it's just really mindless and relaxing" - what that indicates, I think, is a certain particular position on that curve of conceptual integration. Where your deep emotional relationship to the idea of normalcy and assimilation is in a different place than the concept you consciously hold. And I can see where people get really upset when you push on this, because it feels like you're invalidating the things they truly and actively believe, by pointing out that the things they emotionally resonate with are in fundamental contradiction to those beliefs.
But it's also really annoying when people insist that you "just don't understand the appeal of mindless comfort fiction", when what you are actually trying to say is that you think it would be nice if people wrote more fiction that was comforting to people who find the idea of assimilation uncomfortable.
#I'm not saying that the last sentence IS what people in this discussion have been saying in most cases#But I think it's an interesting subset case!#What is comforting when normalization is uncomfortable? It's a trickier question than just shoving the idea of marginalization under a rug!#Something this does not get into because I don't entirely have my head around it#Is that the section on 'society would have to change deeply to alleviate harms to you' i think actually applies to anyone#who bears children.#Really robust access to birth control and abortion might just about slide that back from including anyone who hypothetically could#bear children. Although the social stigma and barriers around reproductive autonomy mean we really aren't there#But also SO much about the process of actually physically bearing children and the lack of support in childrearing#especially in the earliest stages -#It is all kinds of bad.#But! Many many people are in extreme levels of denial about this even if it does apply to them!#Which complications the cognitive dissonance curve quite a bit in all sorts of ways.#Which I bring up here because the way fiction relates to the idea of birth control / abortion / reproductive autonomy#Is some of the most consistently extremely fucked up implications stuff across genres.#damn near nobody is doing a good job with that in my opinion!!#Even works that explicitly include mention of birth control portray societies that are clearly shaped by lack of reproductive autonomy#In basically all cases I have seen.#I don't knowwww man I also find utopias exhausting as a genre I'm not saying we should all be out here writing utopias#I don't think a story has to solve all problems with society to be comforting!#I just find a story which leans really hard on social acceptance as a primary provider of comfort to be really offputting!#And most efforts to erase a problem by slight of hand to put it out of sight end up having WAY worse implications than admitting it exists.#Sorry this is not coherent my brain is soup today.#Might be replaced by a better essay in future.#And apologies for my sloppy reiteration of that james baldwin quote about white gays. As always he says it best.

Never understood the insistence by the greater mcyt fandom that chasing an entire group of people out of a fandom space because of the person they watched was this great achievement. It’s alienating a group of people, treating them like an other, and patting yourself on the back because “at least I’m not like those people” when the wider internet doesn’t give a shit and call you a Dream Stan regardless because that’s what he is? It happened within the DSMP fandom as well and it made me scratch my head because it gave off bootlicking (?) vibes? People who hated the server didn’t care if you were a ranboo stan or not you were still going to be called a Dream Stan regardless. Strangely enough it kind of coincides with the beginning of Dream’s own alienation from the MC Community as a whole and how he voiced that he didn’t feel as though he was allowed to participate in mc community events (like mob vote) despite the game being his entire career and especially when his friends and colleagues were able to participate without scrutiny.
like, congrats on the harassment i guess? the way that people made it all about "protecting their spaces from bad people" too, when uh 1) the alienation of people who liked dream in mcytblr spaces way precedes anything to do with the allegations, yall might act coy but i was there for the sleepytwt wars of 2020, lmao, and 2) the same people who they're throwing out for being Bad People (tm) sure weren't being dropped by the very content creators they base their entire online personalities about? like, in cases like forever and illumina, ccs were very damn quick to show that they didn't support them. and meanwhile people unfollowing dream a whole year after the original allegations is somehow because of the drituation? don't make me laugh. the double standards were craaaazy. i have no clue how these people managed to pat themselves on the back abt content creators that sure were staying completely mum on the subject when they had already convinced themselves that dream is 100% guilty in every respect, get rid of the whole guy. but i digress.
frankly i would say that dream's alienation from the mc community was. early. i mean, speedrunning drama happened in 2020, basically a year or less after he blew up. and when it comes to stantwt? sleepytwt wasn't exactly welcoming in 2020, lmao. the harassment campaign against dream extended long before the allegations and honestly have kind of followed him for his entire career. people continue to hate dream like theyre doing some kind of revolutionary thing (#forActivism!!!) as if they don't sound exactly like the sbi fans that have ragged on him for the last 4 years. like, don't make me laugh, your group circlejerk of oh at least you guys hate dream at least you're not dream stans whenever anything happens (even when said thing might be something like mcytblr drama that has jack shit to do with the guy whose fans you literally expelled from your midsts or allegations against someone completely different) doesn't make you look like praiseworthy activists against a great evil, it just makes you look self-righteous.
#the askers#the same people supporting ccs who had literally been associating with dream even while there were allegations against him#sitting here on their high horses after said allegations have been disproved#while the guy in the hotseat rn is the person they put on a pedestal to compare to dream for you know. 4 years?#like beeeee fucking fr#like dont get me wrong q pisses me off too but these people are acting like he didn't put out a video w/ dream in the thumbnail#literally while the drituation was still unresolved. like. lmao#dont know what kind of cognitive gymnastics they engaged to justify that#or how whatever the hell went down w/ the mc servers somehow tooootally proves that q dropped dre am for bc allegations#but you know every argument they make is founded on bias and double standards and hypocrisy anyway#bc they'll do anything but admit they just don't like this guy and do anything to feel like theyre better than everyone else#so it's not like i'm hoping for anything coherent as far as justifications go

From Knowledge to Wisdom: The Art of Refinement, Integration, and Application
When I discuss them with people, I see that knowledge and wisdom are often used interchangeably, yet they are distinct in essence and function. Photo by Janko Ferlic on Pexels.com Knowledge consists of facts, experiences, and learned information, while wisdom arises from the synthesis, discernment, and application of knowledge in a meaningful and ethical way. Okay this is the second time I've seen this post so I'm saying something because it doesn't quite sit right with me?
I agree that people should just care regardless but we live in society where we dehumanize or iconocise people based on 1) if they fit in the social hierarchy and 2) what can be extracted from them
I think this recent attack on palestine has brought to light (at least for me) how people can easily separate themselves from their humanity when other people are hurting, if you convince them the people that are hurting are not human (read: not like you, whos perfectly human).
And given that, it's now easier to see what people have been saying. It's not that (the people I've seen talk about this) are threatening people, it's that they are asking people to humanize disabled people buly letting them know that if you are temporarily abled right now, that will always be the case.
Separating yourself in your mind from "disabled people" the marginalized group aids in the further marginalization and demonization of "the scary other" basically.
The narrative that “you should care about disabled people because one day that’ll be you” is ableist in and of itself.
You should care about disabled people because you should care about the disenfranchisement of a marginalized community.
Becoming disabled is not a punishment. Becoming disabled is not a threat. Becoming disabled is not cosmic retaliation for being ableist. Becoming disabled is morally neutral.
#will this work on everyone?#no#cognitive dissonance is a helluva drug#ive actually had disabled people tell me they couldn't be disabled#because they werent like those other disableds#who coulmt contribute anything to society#DESTROY THE 'OTHER' IN YOUR MIND#sorry if things are misspelled i have a headache coming on#also sorry if this wasnt quite coherent my brain is still fried lol

The election doesn’t start tomorrow, it ends tomorrow.
If you haven’t already, please make sure you are registered to vote and know where your polling place is (vote.org is a great and easy way to get that information). Additionally, please make sure you have a way to get to your polling place. Uber and Lyft often give free or discounted rides to the polls, and this year the car rental company, Hertz, is allowing free one-day rentals to get to the polls. More information on that here.
EDIT: NAACP has a discount code to use for Lyft, valid for two rides up to $20 ($40 total). Use code: NAACPVOTE24
The following states allow same day registration for general elections, ie: the presidential election:
California
Colorado
Washington DC
Hawaii
Idaho
Illinois
Iowa
Maine
Maryland
Michigan
Minnesota
Montana
Nevada
New Hampshire
New Mexico
Utah
Vermont
Virginia
Washington
Wisconsin
Wyoming
Note: North Dakota does not require formal voter registration, and upon presenting valid identification at a polling place, eligible citizens receive their ballot to vote.
all info here
The following states are required by law to give you time off to vote (between one and three hours):
Alabama
Alaska
Arizona
Arkansas
California
Colorado
Georgia
Illinois
Iowa
Kansas
Kentucky
Maryland
Massachusetts
Minnesota
Missouri
Nebraska
Nevada
New Mexico
New York
Ohio
Oklahoma
South Dakota
Tennessee
Texas
Utah
West Virginia
Wisconsin
Wyoming
*Most states requiring employers to permit voting leave also require that this time is paid. Among the above, the following do not: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Massachusetts, North Dakota. (info here)
Again, it is your right to vote. If you are in line when the polls close, stay in line. It is your legal right to vote.
If you are turned away at the polls, say the following verbatim: “Give me a provisional ballot with a receipt as required by law.”
If you make a mistake on your ballot, you have the right to ask for a new ballot. Don’t cross anything out, simply ask for a new one.
Poll workers are required to make reasonable accommodations for voters who need, including ballots in other languages or translators.
Canvassing is not allowed at polling places, and no one is allowed to threaten or intimidate voters. You have the right to report anything of the like.
All info taken from here
Some tips:
Don’t wear political merch to the polls.
Don’t engage with anyone about your politics at the polls.
Don’t take phone calls inside your polling place — it can wait, please be respectful.
Research who is running locally and see what their policies are. Additionally, research any local propositions that may be on the ballot. The language on ballots is made to be purposefully confusing, so make sure you read everything carefully in addition to your research.
If you’re able to get up early on Election Day, go right when your polling place opens to beat the line.
REMEMBER: IT IS YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE!
Here are a list of state-by-state voter protection hotlines, as well as hotlines in various other languages:

Please vote tomorrow if you have not already. It’s so important, and choosing not to vote or voting for a third party is a vote for extremist measures. Vote down the ballot, and do not let anyone bully you into voting one certain way.
What we are seeing throughout this election cycle (and the last two election cycles) is entirely abnormal. The bullying we see from a certain side and its supporters is childish and dangerous. They spew false information, make racist remarks, and sexualize and discriminate fellow candidates. No single presidential candidate is completely and wholly good, so criticize accordingly.
Vote with those you love in mind, vote with your safety in mind, and vote for those who will be affected for decades to come. Vote for someone who speaks coherently, not for someone who is, let’s be honest, not cognitively alright — and that is the bare minimum of the issue.
If you have anything to add to this post, please do. If anything is incorrect, please let me know and I will gladly change it.
Vote. Vote. Vote.

I'm really scared. Somebody please help me. I don't know what's going on, I don't know if it's in my brain, my head/neck, or somwhere else in my body.
Recap so people can help me:
Go to dentist nov 12 for fillings (upper teeth), after one particular anesthetic shot (front teeth) start to feel extremely weird
start to have crazy cognitive and physical symptoms which are too many to list. Some include:
facial pain, mostly from the cheeks up, throbbing pain in eyes, nose, and roof of mouth
inability to recognize other people's faces from cheeks up (only chin looks familiar)
eyes no longer in sync, left eye seems to move more slowly and not track things right
extremely vivid almost-hallucinations. I can tell they aren't real and that they're in my head, but they're right on the verge
almost-hallucinations are visual, auditory, smell and emotion. it's sort of like a mix with flashes of a bunch of different memories and thoughts at once, it's not coherent. many different smells, images, etc. flashing through my perception too fast to keep track of. kind of like a soup of different stuff. very scary and distracting
feels like every time I have a thought or memory, it comes up correctly in my mind at first, then it mixes into the soup and I can't get it back. it just becomes part of the soup
the imagery and so on often feels like it is "coming in from the sides", like coming in from both sides of my body/FOV/etc. it's happening all the time but when it gets really intense and starts to get "closer to the middle" I start burping continuously and uncontrollably. almost feels like I'm swallowing air and burping it back up again, but it's totally outside my control. sometimes I'm burping back to back for hours
when it gets REALLY bad it makes me throw up. sometimes just into my mouth and sometimes full on projectile vomit. would say this happens about every two or three days and the frequency has been increasing.
inability to do the following correctly: sneeze, swallow, vomit, orgasm. all feel like the same weird issue. like they start but don't really finish. so e.g. when I vomit it's like the top part of my throat is not involved? it feels very weird but like the muscles are only actuating part of the way up, and it's a very odd sensation. same when I swallow, like only part of the swallowing motion happens and the food is hard to get down because of this.
my factual recall and grasp of factual information seems to be 100% fine, no delusional beliefs etc. Even though I can't visually recall my memories (because the soup of imagery gets in the way) I can easily factually recall what happened. But I can't visualize anything correctly, I just get these crazy visuals instead
feel like I am not sleeping properly. feel like when I "go to sleep" it's just more of the visuals ALL NIGHT and I don't get any rest. basically feel like I am in a half-asleep half-awake state all the time.
I've gotten an MRI, nothing abnormal. Got an EEG, it was slightly abnormal with temporal lobe "sharp waves" but no seizures. Went on seizure meds for 4 months and it had no effect on symptoms. Got another EEG when my symptoms were really acting up and EEG was normal, at that point doctor decided to take me off seizure meds since the didn't seem to be doing anything and symptoms didn't seem correlated with EEG. Seeing another neuro next week. Intuitively it feels like something is wrong in my face, throbbing pain is CONSTANT and has been resistant to all pain meds, and that maybe if it went away I could think straight. not sure though.
Feels like there is a "hole", it's hard to explain but it feels like there's this gaping hole in my mind's eye, that's blocking my from thinking correctly and causing all this shit. And I feel it on my body to, idk where but I can feel this "hole" too. Maybe some kind of fucked up nerve in my face or something? If anyone has any thoughts or could help me with any of this please let me know.

My theory on shifting and manifestation: a deeper take based on experience, data and observations.

I want to explain here my current vision of the shifting process, how I personally see manifestation, and how I try to integrate scientific reasoning, personal experience, and collective data. This isn't meant to be the only truth, just my contribution, based on my own research, practice, and discussions.
1) Shifting is not purely about intention or assumptions
First I feel the need to remember people what is an assumption because I feel like something we're losing the plot regardless of what is an assumption or not .

The mainstream community often emphasizes intention or assumptions as the key to shifting. While I agree that intention plays a role, I don’t think it’s the sole determining factor.

Why I also highly doubt beliefs is the only cause of shifting.
If intention alone was enough, most people would have shifted after years of practice. Yet even highly motivated shifters with strong assumptions sometimes struggle, while others shift accidentally. That suggests that other variables are at play.
From my perspective, the emotional state, mental state, and neurocognitive profile of the person are also very important. Shifting happens when our awareness, which I personally view as informational or non-physical consciousness(or awarness), disengages partially or fully from this reality interface (the brain-body) and realigns to another system.
So yes: you need the intention, but also a certain inner state that allows this "disentanglement" to occur. Some people can enter that state easily, others need more practice depending on their cognitive profile.
2)We are not just "manifesting everything", Co-creation exists
I am highly skeptical of the narrative that "you manifest 100% everything that happens to you just by assuming it."
If that was fully true, then:
We wouldn’t experience accidents or unexpected suffering we never consciously assumed.
People wouldn’t struggle with fears that do not materialize despite strong and repetitive intrusive thoughts.
For example: I have strong anxiety sometimes about my heart, I’ve assumed many times that I was having heart issues during panic attacks, yet here I am, healthy. That’s not due to luck, but shows the limits of the "assumption = creation" model.
I believe we co-create reality. There is an interactive field of information where multiple variables (external, collective, individual) play a role. Your assumptions and beliefs influence probabilities, but they’re not almighty. Other informational structures (external laws, collective energies, higher self, system coherence) participate in this co-creation.
3)Why I still care about brain function even if shifting is non-physical
People asked me: "If shifting is non-physical, why do you care about the brain, neurocognition or psychology?"
Because even if awareness is non-physical, in this current CR, our brain is still our interface. It filters, limits, and structures how awareness functions here. Our cognitive flexibility, dissociative capacity, identity fluidity, self-talk regulation, and emotional regulation, all tied to brain functioning, directly impact how easily we can "detach" from this interface.
This explains why highly dissociative or identity-fluid individuals often shift more easily: their interface allows easier awareness movement. Others may need to "train" their interface to allow for this loosening of fixation, I believe that if everyone had the same capacity we would not have such strong correlations in certain areas.

For exemple most people who shift on command have a very fluid identity while the majority of people who have little or no shifting have a very busy mind all the time and a lot of self-criticism.
4)Emotional states: high impact vs. low impact
One major pattern I’ve observed through data (including my own small research polls) is that emotional state plays a major role , but not in a simplistic "positive = good" way.
States like calmness, serenity, even sadness (if soft and stable) seem to support shifting.
States like stress, panic, anger, high euphoria often disrupt shifting.
I call it "low impact vs. high impact" emotions rather than "positive vs. negative". The nervous system needs to be at low activation (low arousal), with some inner focus. That allows the awareness to untether more easily from this interface.(In most case)
5)identity fluidity matters more than most think
Shifters who report being able to shift "on command" often have highly fluid identities. Their sense of self is flexible and less anchored to rigid structures.
This doesn’t mean you must be "neurodivergent" to shift. But cognitive profiles with:
-Less rigid self-concept
-High imaginative capacity
-Dissociative traits (non-pathological)
-Flexible internal narratives
…tend to have an easier time. For others, it takes more training to loosen those structures.
6) Shifting ≠ Manifestation
I differentiate shifting and manifestation:
Manifestation (as I see it) is the local manipulation of probability lines within one existing reality system. You "tweak" conditions within a coherent field (can be done in any reality).
Shifting is the relocation of your awareness field to another coherent informational structure (i.e., a parallel or alternate reality).
Assumptions may play into both. But shifting seems more complex than "I assume and shift instantly". System coherence, informational entanglement, and permission of higher informational structures seem to participate.
7)"If we had full control, reality would collapse"
If every individual fully manifested instantaneously everything they assumed, we would live in non-coherent chaos. Yet reality remains generally stable across billions of individual awareness fields. This suggests structural coherence rules exist.
It’s comforting to believe we have full power, but maybe more mature to accept that we have high influence within a shared structure.
8)Shifting accidents are one of the strongest proofs of co-creation
Many shifters report accidental shifts when they weren’t even trying. This shows that there’s more than just conscious intent: it involves deeper informational permission states, external resonance, or unknown factors.
If conscious intention was 100% responsible, accidental shifts wouldn’t exist.

22% of those who shift on command say the time they will shift is unpredictable
9) We need more nuance, less dogma
The community often lacks room for nuanced discussions. Dogmas like:
-"You manifest 100% everything instantly."
-"Assumptions are all that matter."
-"If you fail, it's your fault for not assuming strongly enough."
…are mentally exhausting and unrealistic for many. We need models that allow for:
-Individual variation
-Neurocognitive diversity
-Emotional state regulation
-Acceptance of external informational structures
-That doesn’t mean disempowering people, but giving them more accurate tools.(And also recognizing we don't have all the full truth)
✅ In short in my pov :
-You do have creative power.
-Assumptions influence reality, but are not absolute.
-Emotional regulation and interface flexibility matter.
-We co-create within a semi-autonomous informational multiverse.
-Shifting involves more than just beliefs; it’s a realignment process of awareness.
-We need nuanced, mature models, not spiritual meritocracy (for me it's clearly a reflection of this reality mindset)
I hope this helps clarify my view. I welcome respectful discussion, even if you don’t fully agree. My goal is not to "convert" people, but to enrich the understanding of a highly complex, fascinating process that deserves better investigation.
I also want to add this: many of you say it’s "effortless", but I often see people beating themselves up with endless affirmations, reprogramming methods, assumption drills, and techniques you try to force into your mind. To me, that still requires a certain form of effort. While I do believe shifting can eventually become more effortless, many of you don’t seem to actually follow this principle in practice.
Some will think or say "I create limiting beliefs" well even with this way of thinking I managed to shift (13 time) and manifest more times than I can count, I plan to shift to a scientific Dr to be able to study shifting in a more scientific way with adapted tools.
