I think my least favorite thing about writing characters with unique about is that I actually have to understand that ability enough to accurately explain it lmfao
I have a blind detective character; who wasn’t born blind, but had an eye ripped out in a freak accident and the other steadily decayed after decades of injury and infection, who is capable of shooting a perfect bullseye with a classic 4.25 inch Colt Python pistol. My reasoning for this is that after so long of using the same gun, shes become so familiar with it that she can assume the rate of speeds, pressure, and acceleration with each bullet depending on its target using primarily her ears to determine what the target is.
The example I use for this is a 10 x 10 sheet of paper with a .5 inch dot in the dead center of the paper where an approximate bullseye may be. Being blind has taught her to develop a higher and more sensitive hearing ability as well as smell, assuming she uses this she can determine the approximate length between the tip of the guns barrel when raised to shoot and the target of her shot just by hearing how far a hypothetical rustling of the paper against a breeze or other items (like bystanders murmurs or other targets being moved/messed with) are in relation to where she is supposed to be shooting.
The aspect of determining the paper’s size is more of an assumption that has all the opportunity to be wrong, given a larger sheet of paper has a deeper and more echoey noise (compare a sheet of computer paper thats approximately 8.5 x 11 inches to the same brand of computer paper thats only 5.5 x 9 inches.) to aim the target towards the center, but then the concept of the kind of paper hopped in my brain and I was like what if she mistook the bigger but thinner computer paper idea for a smaller but thicker cardstock? If in close enough relation to each other they could sound almost identical to someone who can’t see the difference. Which I had to get an actual example of that exact case to compare the differences. This character is a detectives boss (whatever you would call that) which I can assume means handling paperwork, even if she mostly makes assistants or interns do the actual writing, she has to have heard and felt the difference between standard computer paper and the bulkier cardstock. So maybe its in the smell, maybe it’s in more subtle things related to the sounds, stuff I quite frankly don’t have the patience to think of despite all the thinking I have done.
But nonetheless; assuming she manages to do the internal geometry correctly and accurately determine the distance, angle, and size of her target I think I may have to ask my doctor for a stronger SSRI than my current dose.
#writers on tumblr#i hate math#can you tell#geometry 👎👎👎#the worst part about this is shes a character that shows up for like 2 scenes

Colt Grizzly vs Python by Craft HolstersÂ
Colt Grizzly: A Rare Collector’s Powerhouse
The Colt Grizzly stands out as a limited-edition revolver built on the King Cobra frame, with only 500 units ever produced. Its 4.25-inch ported barrel helps manage recoil, making it a practical choice for defensive shooting while maintaining its status as a prized collector’s item. Weighing around 45 ounces, the Grizzly offers a solid yet maneuverable feel, and its Hogue-style rubber grips enhance control. While its trigger pull is slightly heavier than the Python’s, it ensures deliberate and reliable performance. Due to its rarity, the Grizzly commands a premium price among enthusiasts looking for a high-quality yet exclusive .357 Magnum revolver.
Colt Python: The Gold Standard of .357 Magnum Revolvers
Renowned for its precision and smooth trigger, the Colt Python is often considered one of the finest revolvers ever made. Its 6-inch barrel provides superior accuracy, reduced muzzle flip, and increased velocity, making it a favorite for target shooters and law enforcement. The Python’s I-frame design, full-length underlug, and classic walnut grips contribute to its balanced handling and timeless appeal. While some long-term users report timing issues under heavy use, regular maintenance keeps this revolver performing flawlessly. Colt Grizzly Review by Craft HolstersÂ
Colt Grizzly: A Rare Collector’s Gem
The Colt Grizzly revolver is a limited-production firearm introduced in 1994, offering Python-level refinement in a more compact package. Built with a 4.25-inch factory Mag-Na-Ported barrel and chambered in .357 Magnum, this revolver delivers smooth handling, reduced muzzle flip, and impressive accuracy. Its stainless-steel frame enhances durability, making it a reliable choice for target shooting and hunting. However, due to its limited availability, the Colt Grizzly is a highly sought-after collector’s item, with prices often reaching around $3,000 on the market.
Performance and Value of the Colt Grizzly
Equipped with a six-round cylinder and Python-inspired action, the Colt Grizzly stands out for its precision and craftsmanship. Its factory ported barrel reduces recoil, allowing for better control and quicker follow-up shots. While its weight of 44 ounces adds stability, it may not be ideal for extended carry. The revolver’s rarity and premium quality make it a prized possession for enthusiasts, rather than a mainstream shooting option.
