Trois comédies romantiques

Des critiques de trois films, dont deux comédies romantiques de Noël et une histoire moins réussie. Bien que certaines productions soient kitsch, elles remplissent leurs promesses de plaisir et d'évasion festive, sauf une qui m'a déçu.

After the Revolution, Here is Napoleon

The French singer Serge Lama, passionate about the history of Napoleon Bonaparte, decided to dedicate a two-part album to him between 1982 and 1984 illustrating the major parts of the emperor's life

The good sales of the two albums will lead Serge Lama to consider transforming his songs into a real show

It will be in September 1984 in Paris at the Théâtre Marigny that Serge Lama will become Napoleon 1st

To summarize the story :

In 1830 a troupe of actors improvised a play on the life of the former French emperor : Napoleon Bonaparte

His exploits, his love stories and his mysterious death in exile on a lonely island ...

The show was performed for three years in France then in Canada

It is also the first French Musical filmed in its entirety ! (something extremely rare at the time)

Just before concluding I just want to add a little unnecessary anecdote, Serge's work is internationally known but not his face, he is the creator of " Je suis malade " that everyone knows only through the reinterpretation of Lara Fabian :

I' so sorry but

Except for Daniel Mesguich physically-wise, I dislike the whole Joséphine ou la comédie des ambitions.

I guess I can't be too annoyed by the direction making it feel like a very long stage piece, because it was made at the end of the '70s and the actors were mostly from theatre. They are far from being bad (hell some come from the Comédie Française) but it's the long dialogues and static framing and settings.

Josephine is unsufferable. She seems so infantilized, she's whiny bimbo whom everyone orders around otherwise she doesn't know what to do. She's so passive and dumb but in a very annoying way. I don't get why I should feel bad for her as a character. It irks me especially because she's surrounded by assholes, Thérèse is an op manipulator and Barras is... well, Barrassing.

Even Napoleon, as a character not physically (Daniel Mesguich is just ✨️perfect✨️), he's just stern, constipated because he's the Superior Man, wants glory just because yes, and I doubt about the sincerity of his passion.
