As is the norm for Jonathan Kent, which I appreciate.

Not to diss the Snyder version..........OK, that's a blatant lie, I will never hesitate to diss the Snyder version - but I think what Snyder was going for was a more flawed version of Jonathan who could be a hard-ass and make mistakes but still love his son. The problem of course is that David Goyer's writing was terrible, and Kevin Costner was awful at conveying this humanity. If you want that kind of Jonathan done right, then Smallville's right there:

It's so important to me that Jonathan is so soft in the Superman movie. Jonathan is there asking Lois with worried eyes if their boy is going to be okay. Jonathan is there tearily telling Clark he's proud of him. Jonathan is there recognizing how upset Clark is and coaxing him to talk about it. Jonathan loudly loves his son. There is no guessing game, no question, no room for uncertainty.

And Clark reflects that every day as Superman.
