Wixoss, how I love you. I hope your final season is as 6/10, yet unforgettable and haunting my brain for years to come as Infected/Spread/Incited were. I’m going to miss you, when this is over.
I’m not watching Diva. I’m here for the psychological trauma starring teenage girls using an abstract concept it’s supposed to be advertising as a plot device, not the thing it was made for.

May have to add wixoss to my watch list. I watched Conflated when it came out but I didn't realize it was a series until a little bit into it. I'm just thinking about it because I was going through psychological series and went to see exactly how many there were and Conflated is the 2nd season of the 2nd series. And it's a TCG with a mobile app so I'm interested.

Finished Lostorage Conflated Wixoss
I wasn't quite a fan of how the first Lostorage anime looked and I really liked the general art style of the Selector series so the first Lostorage season was quite a downgrade for me. This series is definitely an improvement from the first Lostorage series in terms of visuals. The art style looks much better (even though I still do prefer the look of the first Wixoss series) and the animation and backgrounds looked quite nice at times. The music of this series is always great and this entry to it is no exception. Unlike certain other entries to the series like the second it also uses it's soundtrack well and instead of randomly starting and/or ending it.
The antagonists were quite underwhelming as they didn't really provide any new and interesting dynamics with the protagonists and they're motivations in general wasn't too interesting. Even Incited Wixoss was better at this. While I enjoyed having the protagonists of the original season back, given that all their character arcs are resolved and finished you don't really any growth of them here and Akira's character as a whole is just all over the place to be honest. They also don't get to really shine as characters but like I said I did like having them back as this season was supposed to be the finale of the series as a whole and having them back for it was probably for the better. For the characters that debuted within the first Lostorage season they had more of an actual story. Specifically the 2 main characters from it, I thought it was a nice resolution to their story from the first season.
I actually liked the plot despite its flaws. Without a doubt the true main character of this final season was Mizushima Kiyoi AKA Piruluk from the first series despite never being an "actual" character in the first anime which I thought was a really good thematic choice. It's not the most thought provoking character direction I've seen (even just from this series) but having the character who took part the most in the so called cycle of darkness even as a minor side character in the main story to be the one in the center of fighting probably the best path this series could have taken for its finale. While this anime did quickly adapt the manga in which we see Kiyoi's backstory and learned more about her character for the people that never read it in one episode it is quite obviously a rushed version of the story and reading the manga definitely provides a much better experience. Really I would say, you NEED to read Selector Infected WIXOSS -Peeping Analyze- before watching this anime and for you to really enjoy it.
It's definitely not the best entry in the series in terms of story but overall I thought it was worth the watch. Instead of a standalone story it's definitely more of an epilogue for most of the entries in the series so far and it did a great job at it. I was quite satisfied by where the characters ended up and I was a little emotional at the end.

Let’s Talk WIXOSS Ending
[Warning: Spoilers if you haven’t seen any of the series]
So after my horrible mistake of not giving the Lostorage series a chance despite absolutely loving the Selector series when it came out, I find myself regretting missing out on seeing my favorite Kominato Ruuko until this moment. I literally binged all the eps just now and screamed at my laptop screen this whole damn time.
[By the way, I recommend this franchise to you all! It’s far from just a simple card game with adorable looking girls... it’s a lot more... brutal? In a sense. I would not show this to kids. Especially the Selector series]
Tumblr media
So now that the story of WIXOSS and Selector Battles seem to have come to a complete end, there’s just one thing I’m kind of sad about. or Maybe unsatisfied? or maybe just disappointed with.
So at the end of Lostorage Conflated Wixoss, the very last (or just latest? Hmmmm... still wanting more ehe) anime season of the franchise, we see that the selectors and LRIGs are free from the system, everyone returning to their normal lives, and becoming normal REAL girls again.
Tumblr media
And I was SO damn happy to see them all live their lives normally and happily with all their friends, old and newfound alike.
Just...
Tumblr media
WHAT ABOUT URAZOE IONA/YUKI?!
I know “Iona” had a cameo in episode 12 of Lostorage incited, but I don’t think it was the actual Iona as she had become “Yuki” after becoming Ruuko’s LRIG, right? and that was her wish. She didn’t want to be Iona anymore, and she wanted to become Ruuko’s LRIG for the sake of battle. So was the person living her life until after everything was over still her LRIG who took over her back in the Selector series???
And in conflated, she did, in fact, still exist as Yuki, just that she had merged with Tama as seen in episode 10.
Or did she go back to her life and it just wasn’t showed in the end?
I mean, heck, Akira went back to living a normal life. She wasn’t back to her inital popular amateur model life, but she seemed happier and satisfied.
So... does Yuki/OG Iona just... disappear???
She wasn’t shown in the end scenes, I don’t know if I missed a cameo if there was one, but when she claimed that she and Tama were going to help Ruuko, the one they loved, I was really hoping deep down that if all the girls were returned to the normal world, she’d be able to be friends with Ruuko and the gang.
But... she wasn’t there. And that leaves me so... sad and dissastisfied???? I mean, I felt happy that everything was fine in the end, and the usual melancholic loneliness after completing a series was also there. But... I just... wanted her to be happy too.
She’s not the villain of the selector series exactly, so what would she be... a counter protagonist or something? haha idk. She’s my favorite enemy-turned-ally of the wixoss series so I really wanted to see... something for her at the very end.
Does she at least still dwell within Tama?? But if Tama is now a normal girl, and Selector system no longer exists... would she still hear Yuki?
Ughhh.

Lostorage Conflated WIXOSS and the Purpose of Tragic Endings
There’s been an abundance of media in the past year involving bringing together an absurd number of characters from across a franchise for a massive finale. There was Avengers: Infinity War, there was Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, there was PreCure All Stars Memories, and of course there was Lostorage Conflated WIXOSS. In the final episode, every LRIG from the Lostorage generation has a moment in the spotlight, both in the final battle, as well as in the epilogue. Unfortunately, unlike the other media listed, this gathering takes place over the course of a single episode, and with the focus split so thinly across all of these characters, little time is left for the narrative.
After having won this round of the Selector Battles in the previous episode, Kiyoi now has the opportunity to reshape the Selector System to match her ideals. However, when she arrives in the Room of White Windows, she is confronted by Eternal, the embodiment of the current system. Though this system is fueled by the perpetuation of a cycle of misery, it is all that Eternal knows, and she is unwilling to part with it. Then, before Kiyoi is given the opportunity to make her case, Eternal initiates a fight and all the characters show up and punch each other for a while.
While the scenes that follow mainly feel like padding to disguise the absence of a substantial conclusion, there are a few characters who stand out. Amongst all the fighting, Guzuko and Aya, who are two minor villains, overhear Kiyoi’s intentions for the system, and decide to turn face. This decision is ultimately inconsequential, but beyond that, there’s no weight behind it. This pair had hardly appeared across Conflated, and there’s no sense that this side change is the culmination of anything.
This was particularly upsetting to me because there was one character who would have been perfect to play this role, and she was easily the most compelling character of the show. Across the season, Layla was one of the strongest antagonistic forces, but she was always viewed as secondary to the primary antagonist Carnival. Carnival regularly disrespected and undervalued Layla, seemingly for no purpose other than to assert her own authority. Layla would have been completely justified in turning against Carnival, but instead she just joins the battle royale for the villain’s side without a second thought. With that said, there is one scene near the end in which she punches Carnival in the face, and while it’s only played for laughs and doesn’t amount to anything, it was exactly the visceral catharsis I needed.
Tumblr media
After sufficient fighting has occurred, Kiyoi finally has the chance to monologue about the importance of hope. According to her, Eternal’s preservation of the system is a product of a fear of loss of control. In seeking autonomy, she had ironically paralyzed herself, and the salvation she seeks can only be found through moving on. Eternal doesn’t really exist as a character, so she doesn’t have any comeback to this, and allows Kiyoi to take control. With her new power, Kiyoi frees everyone from the binds of the Selector System. This is followed by an epilogue in which Kiyoi gives yet another monologue about how people are defined by their memories, which is accompanied by scenes showing that the villains are now on the path to redemption, the LRIGs are now all human, and all of the Selectors are now free to play card games for fun. Even Yukino, who died last season, is now okay! It’s happily ever after for everyone.
With the events of the finale covered, it’s now time to talk about tragic endings. This may seem strange considering the events that I’ve just described, but the WIXOSS franchise has developed a reputation for tragedy. People were expecting a very different conclusion, and based on the limited discussion I’ve seen in regards to the finale, they were dissatisfied with how neatly everything was resolved. However, tragedy for its own sake is senseless. There needs to be some intent behind a tragic ending, such as demonstrating the weight of the hamartia of the protagonist. For example, Fate/Zero is a tragedy of utilitarianism; Kiritsugu’s goal is not realized because it is built upon a foundation of means justified by their ends, which ultimately collapse upon themselves. As it stands, having Lostorage Conflated WIXOSS end in disaster would just be wallowing in despair.
With that said, this show very easily could have been an effective tragedy. Earlier in the season, Kiyoi did have a tragic flaw: she was unwilling to depend on others, and took too much burden upon herself. There is an instance in which this behavior got her into trouble previously, but in the end she was able to handle the situation without repercussion, and then this tendency just vanishes. It’s unfortunate, because this sort of behavior is so commonly celebrated in anime, and it would have been neat to see a show that actually engages with that idea. Instead, WIXOSS takes the easy option, and ends up validating it.
