I'm a bit disappointed Cardinal Jean-Claude "Saving yourself for marriage is bourgeois" Hollerich was eliminated in the prelims. Guess we're not ready for the first Zen Catholic pope.
Oh no! I just read up on him and he seems delightful.
First off, he's from Luxembourg! Particularly grew up in Vianden, which isn't really relevant to his character but they have an absolute smashing castle you should consider visiting
Tumblr media
Anyway back to Cardinal Hollerich
Some of his views:
favours female deacons
wants to normalise homosexuality and supports the blessing of homosexual unions (this is huge!)
Open to relaxing priestly celibacy
tries to implement ecological changes in his personal life
He has a very firm disdeain for those who cling to conservative Catholicism
Condemnation of fornication, for example, is not biblical morality according to Hollerich but rather the remains of an out of date “bourgeois mentality of the nineteenth century.”
There it is.
and also:
The Church does not have all the answers, Hollerich believes, and so it is important to become humble, dialogue, and learn from the world rather than turning first to Christ and Revelation.

I have been listening to your podcast and have reached episode 14 and I think you missed something about Edythe. When Edward strokes Bella's face, but Edythe grabs Beau's hand to stroke her face, it's not because having your face touched is for girls. It's because Edythe is a catgirl. She is straight up nuzzling Beau's hand.
Also my phone autocorrect really doesn't like the name Edythe.
I think both can be true, but I agree. also EVERY TIME I type "edythe" on my phone, autocorrect is a nightmare 🤝 —Shannon
you're so right, she is warrior-catting allllll over the place —G

I like how the finals are going to be a showdown over what makes a "Bad Videogame Song". A song that is not good vs a song that is good but it's being screeched at you by a robot from the '80s.
truly the ultimate showdown

Have you played Slay the Princess? If so what did you think about it?
No, I haven't! One of my friend does though and all they had to say is "it's a love story", so that's interesting imo. Since I do know someone in there dies a lot. I do wonder how it handles Princesses though

I am also enjoying seeing you think something and going "this is going to pay off big time in like five years"
it's all about the long term gains over here on this umineko liveblog (read: i do not know what will/won't be relevant so i pay obsessive attention to every detail and hope at least some of what i am rotating in my mind sticks)

I've already submitted 10 queens so it doesn't matter for me but: do symbolic queens count? Like, Rowan Morrison from Wicker Man who was May Queen, or prom queens like Cady in Mean Girls, Julie Jenkins from the Ballad of Sarah Berry, Carrie from, uh, Carrie etc etc?
No, they need to be a queen, as in royalty (or that society's equivalent of).

Thanks. Traveller was another possibility I had in mind, although I forgot to mention it for some reason. I haven't heard of Torchship before. If the base setting involves everyone being communist, but you can adapt it pretty easily, maybe. I'd ideally like something which just serves as a mechanical framework for a broad variety of space-opera stories.
I’d like a recommendation for a kind of fairly kitchen-sink-y space opera TTRPG system. It can be a mix of GURPS books. I don’t know which ones. Or it could be something other than GURPS. Come to think of it, I think Star Wars-based RPGs could fit. (I wasn’t really envisioning a Star Wars campaign, but Star Wars has a fair amount of overlap with the features I’d be interested in.)
Mechanics:
-Moderate preference for classless systems.
-Weak preference for level-less systems. (GURPS/Storyteller style continuous character progression is preferred to discrete leveling, but not that strongly.)
-I would moderately prefer “rolling high is better.”
Scenarios that could happen, that would ideally have immersive mechanics:
-Walking around on foot, exploring, fighting, etc, on planets, space stations, ships.
-Doing the above, but maybe in the vacuum of space, or on a planet with an unbreathable (to humans!) methane/ammonia atmosphere, possibly in a flimsy spacesuit, or possibly in tough power-armor.
-Piloting a starfighter, mech, or other one-person vehicle
-Collaborating, as a party (“bridge crew”), to pilot a larger vessel, like a space cruiser, freighter, or the like.
-Trying to hack a computer system without alerting security.
-Studying a Mysterious Anomaly, using remote sensor scanning, sending closer ranged telemetry probes, or even taking a Sample Specimen for close examination in the Laboratory.
-Conducting a diplomatic mission to broker a ceasefire between two factions in a planetary civil war.
Player Races I’d like to be viable:
-Humans
-Maybe a small assortment of Rubber-Forehead aliens, or Grey-style aliens.
-Alien furries
-Maybe the occasional insect-like or centaur-like or whatever
-Weird starfish aliens, but not so weird as to be unplayable. (Unplayably weird ones that don’t understand linear time or whatever might exist, but not as PCs)
-Androids, cyborgs and other artificial beings
I’m on the fence about psionics:
-I’m inclined toward not having psionics, the Force, or other magic (other than “future technology” that is magical in practice, like FTL travel)  in this campaign, but if you find The Perfect TTRPG for my campaign, and it happens to include psionics in a way that’s non-trivial to remove, I’d maybe be okay with psionics so long as it doesn’t reach “if you’re not a psionic character you’re a useless chump” power levels. Psionics as something weird space anomalies might have, rather than PCs, is more acceptable too.

WARNING THIS POLL CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE FOLLOWING GAMES: Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, Professor Layton
Quote 1: "You... you betrayed me! I gave you guidance, responsibility, opportunity, power. And now, you enter my building, cripple my organization, kill my most loyal associates. You Judas, you devil!" - Sebastian LaCroix, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Quote 2: "My Name is Jean Descole. I am an artistic man of Science, with rather lofty goals." - Jean Descole, Professor Layton
Propaganda under cut
Quote 1: Sebastian LaCroix is a great bullshit artist. The first time you meet him he's about to have you executed, but when everyone gets mad, he says he's actually going to spare you and make you his protege and acts like this was his idea the whole time. He sends you on suicide missions (because you're his best vampire and he definitely expected you to succeed), sets you up as a witness to frame another vampire for murder, sets a pack of werewolves on you when you find out about it, then frames you for another murder and calls a vampire blood hunt on you. Then, if you don't side with him at the end of the game, he acts so shocked. You've betrayed him despite all the great opportunities he gave you as an expendable pawn.
Quote 2: My bbgirlllllll He's soooooooo silly and fun and full of issues

[ID: tumblr post by prokopetz:
"I think people often underestimate the potential educational value of senseless memes. For example, thanks to Spiders Georg, literally every teenager on Tumblr has a reasonable grasp of what a statistical outlier is and the sorts of problems that outliers can introduce into a naïve analysis. There are grown adults who don't get that - I deal with them on a daily basis."
confusedbyinterface reblogs with:
""Memes have educational value" actually statistical error. Average meme teaches 0 facts. Spiders Georg is an outlier adn should not be counted". End of ID.]

The Umineko play isn't a musical, but there is a lot of dancing.
Good enough for me!!!
I don’t consider myself a “theater kid” so to speak because I don’t seek out musicals and plays on my own nor did I ever consider being part of one, but every time I do watch a musical/play I get really into it. So I guess I’m a casual fan of the arts.

This is a horrible ask but when you mentioned George repeating the cycle by getting a new girlfriend and calling her "Shannon" I suddenly remembered Mr Boop, the webcomic about a man married to Betty Boop. But when a copyright lawsuit forces him to end the webcomic and publicly admit he was never actually married to Betty Boop IRL, he starts dating a woman called "Elizabeth" and begins calling her Betty...
unironically i think a mr boop type situation is probably scarily close to the actual truth of what happened between kinzo and beatrice

The gender is: "confused about tumblr social justice but also annoyed by "tumblr social justice" and all of the associated "tumblr social justice warriors," "tumblr social justice warriors," "tumblr social justice warriors who say they're not social justice warriors," and (inevitably) the perennial "tumblr social justice warrior strawman"

Setting aside the (very important!) point about how telling people what their religious and cultural identity is over their objections is a shitty move, the "Culturally Christian" thing is reminding me of that campaign in 2016 to get everyone "born into Christianity" to put that as their religion on the census, so Australian wasn't "officially declared a Muslim country". It's all just sectarianism.
