How Can SKT Video Blog – Vlog WordPress Theme Help You Build a Successful Video Blog?
Creating compelling video content is only half the battle—presenting it through a sleek, functional, and optimized website is what turns casual viewers into loyal followers. If you're a vlogger, YouTuber, or filmmaker looking to elevate your online presence, the SKT Video Blog – Vlog WordPress Theme offers everything you need to stand out.
In this post, we’ll explore how this theme empowers creators to launch a successful video blog, even without technical expertise.
A Professional First Impression for Your Video Brand
First impressions matter, especially online. Visitors to your video blog should immediately understand what you’re about and want to explore your content. The SKT Video Blog theme achieves this with a clean, responsive, and visually striking homepage layout that places your videos front and center.
Whether you're sharing travel vlogs, reviews, tutorials, or cinematic reels, this vlog WordPress theme showcases them with elegance and clarity.
Video Showcase That Prioritizes Engagement
Unlike generic blog themes, SKT Video Blog is built specifically to highlight video content. Its unique structure includes featured video sliders, playlists, and grid layouts that make browsing fun and intuitive. Users can easily find the content that matters to them without getting lost in clutter.
You can embed videos from popular platforms like YouTube and Vimeo or upload them directly, depending on your hosting setup and content strategy.
Easy Customization for a Unique Look
One of the biggest advantages of this theme is its flexibility. With the built-in page builder and WordPress Customizer, you can tailor everything from fonts and colors to layouts and widgets. Don’t want to use the default homepage structure? No problem. You can rearrange sections to suit your brand voice and style.
This means your video blog can look exactly how you envision it—whether you want a minimalist layout or a dynamic, multimedia-rich site.
Fast Loading for a Smooth Viewing Experience
Video websites can be resource-heavy and slow if not optimized properly. Fortunately, the SKT Video Blog theme uses lightweight code, modern scripts, and clean design principles to ensure fast loading times.
Your audience won’t have to wait around for pages to load or videos to buffer. This seamless performance not only improves user experience but also enhances SEO and reduces bounce rates.
WooCommerce Integration for Revenue Opportunities
Thinking about monetizing your video blog? This theme comes WooCommerce-ready, giving you the ability to sell merchandise, exclusive video packages, or even digital downloads directly from your site.
With a fully integrated store, you can transform your platform from a content hub into a thriving business. Offer branded t-shirts, online courses, or eBooks—whatever complements your video content and appeals to your audience.
Built-In Blogging Capabilities
Even though this is a video-first theme, it doesn’t ignore the power of written content. You can easily maintain a traditional blog section to write posts that accompany your videos. This is great for SEO, audience engagement, and offering added value.
For example, if you publish a video tutorial, you can include a detailed step-by-step guide in the blog post to enhance its usefulness. These posts can drive traffic from search engines and keep your audience engaged for longer.
Mobile-Optimized for a Multi-Device Audience
Over 50% of web traffic now comes from mobile devices. If your website isn’t responsive, you’re losing out on a huge portion of your potential audience. Luckily, SKT Video Blog is fully responsive and tested across devices and browsers.
Whether users visit your site from an iPhone, Android tablet, or desktop computer, they’ll enjoy a consistent and smooth browsing experience.
Social Media Ready for Maximum Exposure
SKT Video Blog makes it easy to connect your site to all major social media platforms. Share icons, embedded feeds, and even social login options ensure that you can build your community beyond the website.
If you already have a presence on YouTube, Instagram, or TikTok, linking those accounts through your site builds credibility and helps cross-promote content.
One-Click Demo Import to Get Started Quickly
Not sure how to design your site from scratch? Use the one-click demo import to set up a fully functional website instantly. You’ll get a complete layout that mirrors the theme’s live demo, which you can then customize with your own videos, text, and branding elements.
This saves hours of development time and makes the theme beginner-friendly—even for those without prior web design experience.
Ideal for Multiple Video Niches
The SKT Video Blog – Vlog WordPress Theme is highly versatile, making it perfect for:
Personal vlogs and lifestyle creators
Film directors and short filmmakers
Travel and adventure channels
Gaming content and live streams
Educational video tutorials
Music video portfolios
No matter your niche, this theme provides the tools to share your story and connect with your audience.
Final Thoughts
There are plenty of WordPress themes out there, but very few are designed with video creators in mind. The SKT Video Blog – Vlog WordPress Theme delivers a powerful mix of visual appeal, performance, and user-friendly customization.
Whether you’re an emerging vlogger or a seasoned content creator looking to take control of your platform, this theme gives you the creative freedom and functionality you need to succeed.
Ready to launch your video blog? This theme could be the key to making your content shine online.

There are many web hosting companies to choose from if you're taking the plunge into making your own website with a comic content management system (CMS) like ComicControl or Grawlix, a Wordpress comic theme like Toocheke or ComicPress, or a HTML template to cut/paste code like Rarebit. While these solutions are generally free, finding a home for them is... generally not. It can be hard to choose what's best for your webcomic AND your budget!
We took a look at a few of the top hosting services used by webcomics creators using webcomic CMSes, and we put out a poll to ask your feedback about your hosts!
This post may be updated as time goes on as new services enter the hosting arena, or other important updates come to light.
Questions:
💻 I can get a free account with Wix/Squarespace/Carrd, could I just use those for my comic? - Web hosts like this may have gallery functions that could be adapted to display a series of pages, but they are very basic and not intended for webcomics.
📚 Wait, I host on Webtoon, Tapas, Comic Fury, or some other comic website, why are they not here? - Those are comic platforms! We'll get into those in a future post!
🕵️‍♀️Why does it say "shared hosting"? Who am I sharing with? - "Shared hosting" refers to sharing the server space with other customers. They will not have access to your files or anything, so it is perfectly fine to use for most comic CMSes. You may experience slowing if there is too much activity on a server, so if you're planning to host large files or more than 10 comics, you may want to upgrade to a more robust plan in the future.
Web Host List
Neocities
Tumblr media
Basic plan pricing: Free or $5/month. Free plan has more restrictions (1 GB space, no custom domain, and slower bandwidth, among other things)
Notes: Neocities does not have database support for paid or free accounts, and most comic CMS solutions require this (ComicCtrl, Grawlix, Wordpress). You will need to work with HTML/CSS files directly to make a website and post each page.
Hostinger
Tumblr media
Basic plan pricing: $11.99/month or $7.99/month with four year commitment (monthly, 1, 2, and 4 year plans available).
Notes: Free domain for the 1st year. Free SSL Certifications. Weekly backups.
KnownHost
Tumblr media
Basic plan pricing: $8.95/month or $7.99/month with four year commitment (monthly, 1, 2, and 4 year plans available).
Notes: Free DDOS protection. Free SSL Certifications.
InMotion Hosting
Tumblr media
Basic plan pricing: $12.99/month or $9.99/month with three year commitment (monthly, 1, and 3 year plans available).
Notes:  Free SSL Certifications, free domain names for 1 and 3 year plans. 24/7 live customer service and 90-day money-back guarantee. Inmotion also advertises eco-friendly policies: We are the first-ever Green Data Center in Los Angeles. We cut cooling costs by nearly 70 percent and reduce our carbon output by more than 2,000 tons per year.
Reviews:
👍“I can't remember it ever going down.”
👍“InMotion has a pretty extensive library full of various guides on setting up and managing websites, servers, domains, etc. Customer service is also fairly quick on responding to inquiries.” 👎“I wish it was a bit faster with loading pages.”
Ionos Hosting
Tumblr media
Basic plan pricing: $8/month or $6/month with three year commitment (monthly, 1, 2 and 3 year plans available).
Notes: Free domain for the first year, free SSL Certification, Daily backup and recovery is included. Site Scan and Repair is free for the first 30 days and then is $6/month.
Reviews:
👍“Very fast and simple” 👎“Customer service is mediocre and I can't upload large files”
Bluehost
Tumblr media
Basic plan pricing: $15.99/month or $4.95/month with three year commitment (monthly, 1, 3 year plans available).
Notes: Free domain and SSL certificates (for first year only). 24/7 Customer Service. Built to handle higher traffic websites. Although they specialize in Wordpress websites and provide updates automatically, that's almost a bad thing for webcomic plugins because they will often break your site. Their cloud hosting services are currently in early access with not much additional information available.
Reviews:
👎"The fees keep going up. Like I could drop $100 to cover a whole year, but now I'm paying nearly $100 for just three months. It's really upsetting."
👎"I have previously used Bluehost’s Wordpress hosting service and have had negative experiences with the service, so please consider with a grain of salt. I can confirm at least that their 24/7 customer service was great, although needed FAR too often."
Dreamhost
Tumblr media
Basic plan pricing: $7.99/month or $5.99/month with three year commitment (monthly, 1, 3 year plans available).
Notes: Free SSL Certificates, 24/7 support with all plans, 97-day moneyback guarantee. Not recommended for ComicCtrl CMS
Reviews:
👍“They've automatically patched 2 security holes I created/allowed by mistake.” 👍“Prices are very reasonable” 👎 “back end kind of annoying to use” 👎 “wordpress has some issues” 👎 “it's not as customizable as some might want“
GoDaddy
Tumblr media
Basic plan pricing: $11.99/month or $9.99/month with three year commitment (monthly, 1, 2, and 3 year plans available).
Notes: Free 24/7 Customer service with all plans, Free SSL Certificates for 1 year, free domain and site migration.
Reviews:
👍Reasonable intro prices for their Economy hosting, which has 25GB of storage 👍Migrated email hosting service from cPanel to Microsoft Office, which has greater support but may not be useful for most webcomic creators. 👎 Many site issues and then being upsold during customer service attempts. 👎 Server quality found lacking in reviews 👎 Marketing scandals in the past with a reputation for making ads in poor taste. Have been attempting to clean up that image in recent years. 👎 “GoDaddy is the McDonald's of web hosting. Maybe the Wal-Mart of hosting would be better. If your website was an object you would need a shelf to put it on. You go to Wal-Mart and buy a shelf. It's not great. It's not fancy. It can only hold that one thing. And if we're being honest - if the shelf broke and your website died it wouldn't be the end of the world. The issue comes when you don't realize GoDaddy is the Wal-Mart of hosting. You go and try to do things you could do with a quality shelf. Like, move it. Or add more things to it.” MyWorkAccountThisIs on Reddit*
Things to consider for any host:
💸 Introductory/promotional pricing - Many hosting companies offer free or inexpensive deals to get you in the door, and then raise the cost for these features after the first year or when you renew. The prices in this post are the base prices that you can expect to pay after the promotional prices end, but may get outdated, so you are encouraged to do your own research as well.
💻 Wordpress hosting - Many of the companies below will have a separate offering for Wordpress-optimized hosting that will keep you updated with the latest Wordpress releases. This is usually not necessary for webcomic creators, and can be the source of many site-breaking headaches when comic plugins have not caught up to the latest Wordpress releases.
Any basic hosting plan on this list will be fine with Wordpress, but expect to stop or revert Wordpress versions if you go with this as your CMS.
🤝 You don't have to go it alone - While free hosts may be more limited, paid hosting on a web server will generally allow you to create different subdomains, or attach additional purchased domains to any folders you make. If you have other comic-making friends you know and trust, you can share your server space and split the cost!
Want to share your experience?
Feel free to contribute your hosting pros, cons, and quirks on our survey! We will be updating our list periodically with your feedback!

Happy Friday, everyone. I hope that this week has been awesome for you.
Tumblr media
Every day, there will be a theme: such as Blorbo Blursday where it is encouraged you go into each other’s ask boxes or even a post on your blog asking about each others’ weekly project or muse.
This group is open to all creators: writers, visuals artists, and readers. It is for those who appreciate these types of creators. All fandoms are welcome. We accept original works, original characters, alternate universe, strict canon, opt, x reader, and so on.
We aim to support, nurture, and cheer on our fellow content creators, as well as give everyone visibility. Different levels of participation are okay. I understand that schedules change, as does health. Participate at any level, as it feels right for you and your heath.
Tumblr media
Make a post discussing what you accomplished creativity this week. This could be a new OC that you came up with, last lines of the WIP you wrote, or some cool World building you came up with. Feel free to link to your AO3, Wordpress, or even Tumblr.
The skies the limit. This is open to original and fandom authors.

What is a Website? A Complete Beginner’s Guide
Tumblr media
In today’s digital age, having an online presence is not a luxury — it’s a necessity. Whether you're a business owner, content creator, or just someone curious about the web, understanding what a website is and how it functions is essential. In this guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know about websites, their components, types, benefits, and how to create one.
What is a Website?
A website is a collection of publicly accessible web pages that are linked together and share a single domain name. These pages are hosted on a web server and can include text, images, videos, forms, and other elements that users interact with online.
In simpler terms, a website is your virtual space on the internet — like your home or office in the digital world. It allows you to communicate, sell, educate, entertain, or showcase anything to a global audience.
Why is a Website Important Today?
In a world dominated by smartphones, search engines, and social media, a website acts as your central hub online. Here's why it’s important:
Visibility: A website helps you appear in search results when people look for your products, services, or information.
Credibility: A professional-looking site builds trust among your audience.
Accessibility: Your website is available 24/7, allowing customers to reach you anytime.
Marketing: It's the foundation for all your digital marketing efforts.
Sales: With e-commerce, your website can directly generate revenue.
Core Components of a Website
Every website has several key components that make it function properly:
1. Domain Name
This is your site’s address (e.g., www.digitalcreator.org.in). It’s what users type in their browser to visit your site.
2. Hosting Server
Web hosting stores your website’s data and serves it to users when requested.
3. Content Management System (CMS)
A CMS like WordPress, Joomla, or Shopify makes it easy to build and manage content on your website without coding.
4. Web Pages
These include the homepage, about us, contact, services, blog, etc., that make up your website.
5. Navigation
Menus and internal links guide visitors through your website.
Types of Websites
Different websites serve different purposes. Here are some common types:
1. Business Website
Used by companies to promote services, share information, and connect with clients.
2. E-commerce Website
Allows users to buy and sell products online. Examples include Amazon and Flipkart.
3. Portfolio Website
Ideal for creative professionals to showcase their work.
4. Blog or Personal Website
Used by individuals to share ideas, stories, or niche content regularly.
5. Educational Website
Used by schools, institutions, or educators to provide learning materials.
6. Non-profit or Government Website
Focused on delivering information and services to the public.
How to Create a Website (Step-by-Step)
Creating a website doesn’t require you to be a tech expert. Follow these steps:
Step 1: Choose a Domain Name
Pick a short, relevant, and memorable domain name. Make sure it reflects your brand or purpose.
Step 2: Get Web Hosting
Choose a reliable hosting provider like Bluehost, SiteGround, or Hostinger.
Step 3: Select a CMS or Website Builder
Use platforms like WordPress, Wix, or Shopify to start building your website.
Step 4: Design Your Website
Choose a theme or template. Customize colors, fonts, and layout to match your brand.
Step 5: Add Content
Create and publish pages like Home, About, Services, and Contact. Use quality visuals and optimized text.
Step 6: Optimize for SEO
Use keywords (like website) naturally, optimize images, and ensure fast load speed.
Step 7: Launch and Promote
Once satisfied, make your website live. Share it on social media and start your SEO or ad campaigns.
Best Practices for a Great Website
Responsive Design: Ensure your site works well on all devices.
Fast Loading Speed: Use compressed images and optimized code.
Clear Navigation: Make it easy for users to find what they need.
Secure (HTTPS): Use an SSL certificate to protect data.
Call-to-Action (CTA): Guide visitors toward actions like “Buy Now” or “Contact Us.”
Examples of Great Websites
A well-designed and fully functional example is www.digitalcreator.org.in. It demonstrates how a website can showcase services, build trust, and attract new clients efficiently.
LSI Keywords to Keep in Mind
While writing or optimizing your website, include these Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) keywords to enhance search performance:
Web design
Online presence
Website development
Internet site
Web page
Digital platform
Domain and hosting
CMS (Content Management System)
Website builder
E-commerce site
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. What is the purpose of a website?
A website helps individuals or businesses share information, sell products, provide services, or connect with others online.
2. How much does it cost to build a website?
Costs vary based on design, features, and hosting. Basic websites can cost as low as ₹3,000–₹10,000, while advanced ones may go up to ₹1 lakh or more.
3. Do I need coding skills to create a website?
No. Tools like WordPress or Wix allow you to build a full website without writing any code.
4. How long does it take to build a website?
A simple website can be built in 1–2 days. More complex sites may take a few weeks.
5. What makes a website successful?
A successful website is user-friendly, fast, mobile-optimized, secure, and offers valuable content with clear calls-to-action.
Conclusion
Understanding what a website is is the first step toward establishing your digital footprint. Whether you're planning to launch a personal blog, online store, or professional portfolio, your website will serve as the foundation of your online presence.

Boost Your Online Presence with a WordPress Site
WordPress is a leading content management system (CMS) used by businesses, bloggers, and creators worldwide. With its user-friendly interface, customization options, and extensive plugin library, WordPress enables website owners to create a visually appealing, functional site without needing advanced coding knowledge. In this article, we’ll explore the benefits of using a WordPress site and offer tips to enhance its SEO, ensuring you’re on track to increase your online visibility and reach.
Why Choose WordPress for Your Site?
Ease of Use WordPress is designed for all experience levels. Its intuitive dashboard lets users manage content, images, and plugins easily, making it simple to maintain and update. Plus, with thousands of themes and plugins available, users can tailor their site’s appearance and functionality to align with their brand and goals.
Flexibility and Customization WordPress offers a variety of themes and plugins to match any industry or style. Whether you’re launching a portfolio, eCommerce store, or blog, WordPress provides flexible design options. With plugins like WooCommerce, you can turn your WordPress site into an online store. For added customization, many themes support page builders like Elementor and Divi, which enable drag-and-drop editing without coding.
SEO-Friendly Features WordPress is inherently SEO-friendly, offering features such as customizable permalinks, mobile-responsive designs, and support for structured data. Optimizing these elements enhances your site’s discoverability on search engines. WordPress also makes it easy to manage SEO-related tasks, especially when paired with the right plugins.
How to Optimize Your WordPress Site for SEO
To fully leverage WordPress for SEO, follow these essential tips:
Use an SEO Plugin Plugins like Yoast SEO and Rank Math provide comprehensive tools to optimize meta tags, sitemaps, and content readability. They guide you in adding keywords, optimizing images, and creating a structured site map that helps search engines crawl and index your site more efficiently.
Optimize Page Speed Site speed is a crucial ranking factor. Optimize images using plugins like Smush or Imagify to reduce file sizes without compromising quality. Use a caching plugin, such as WP Rocket or W3 Total Cache, to improve load times by storing static versions of your pages. A faster site enhances user experience and ranks better on search engines.
Mobile Responsiveness With mobile searches outpacing desktop, having a mobile-friendly site is essential. Most WordPress themes are designed to be responsive, but always check how your site displays on mobile devices. Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test can help you ensure your site provides a seamless experience on all screens.
Optimize Permalinks and URLs By default, WordPress offers several permalink structures. Choose a structure that includes keywords and is easy to read, such as "Post name." For example, change URLs like “mysite.com/?p=123” to “mysite.com/wordpress-seo-tips” to improve clarity and relevance to search engines.
Use Internal and External Links Internal links guide users through your site, encouraging them to explore more content. They also help search engines understand your site's structure and content relationships. Additionally, linking to authoritative external sources can enhance your site’s credibility. Just ensure these links are relevant to your content.
Regularly Update Content Keeping your content fresh signals to search engines that your site is active and valuable. Update blog posts with recent information, check for broken links, and add new pages when relevant. Regular updates can boost your search engine ranking and engage returning visitors.
Focus on Quality Content Content is a major SEO factor. Create high-quality, valuable content targeting keywords relevant to your audience. Instead of keyword-stuffing, focus on naturally incorporating primary and secondary keywords to maintain readability and relevance.
Conclusion
A well-optimized WordPress site is a powerful tool to boost your online visibility. With easy-to-use plugins and a range of customization options, WordPress makes it simpler to maintain an SEO-friendly site. By following these best practices, you’ll improve search engine rankings, drive organic traffic, and strengthen your online presence. Whether you’re new to WordPress or a seasoned user, these tips will help you get the most out of your site.

Is Blogging Still Relevant in the Age of Tiktoks and Instagram?
Tumblr media
You might be wondering if blogging still holds its ground with the rise of TikTok and Instagram. The answer is a certainly yes! While these platforms are fantastic for quick, eye-catching content, blogs offer a special space for diving deep into topics. They allow for rich storytelling, comprehensive guides, and a personal touch that helps foster community and build trust. Many readers still seek out blogs for detailed insights and tutorials that shorter formats can’t provide. Plus, a well-crafted blog can drive traffic to your social media profiles, enhancing your overall online presence. In this ever-evolving digital landscape, blogging remains a powerful and relevant tool!
About Instagram
Since its 2010 launch, Instagram quickly gained popularity, now boasting over one billion active users. While many content creators favor Instagram's visual appeal and immediacy, its limitations, such as non-clickable links, hinder blog promotion. As Instagram evolved into a hub for curated content, it has overshadowed traditional blogging, leading some bloggers to transition entirely to the platform. However, the depth and engagement of well-crafted blog posts remain unmatched by shorter social media formats.
Instagram User Growth from 2013 to Present
Tumblr media
About TikToks
In the first quarter of 2019, TikTok was the most downloaded app from Apple’s iOS App Store, rapidly gaining widespread popularity. Its influence has even extended to Instagram, where numerous food posts feature popular "TikTok recipes," such as baked oats and feta pasta. Additionally, Instagram Reels appear to draw inspiration from TikTok, and the platform tends to prioritize accounts that utilize this feature. While achieving growth on Instagram can be difficult, TikTok's algorithm allows users to go viral regardless of their follower count, highlighting a key difference between the two platforms.
Tiktok’s Exploasive Growth from Launch to 2024
Tumblr media
Why Were These Platforms were Acknowledged by Most Society
Joining platforms like Instagram and TikTok is straightforward. Users simply sign up and begin publishing content without the complexities associated with traditional blogging. There is no need to manage a DNS server, purchase a domain, pay for hosting, or install software like WordPress. Additionally, users do not have to navigate themes or widgets. All that is required is a mobile phone, which allows for easy photo editing with applications like Lightroom and VSCO, enabling the creation of a visually appealing Instagram feed. TikTok similarly simplifies the video editing process within the app, eliminating the need for advanced software like Final Cut Pro or Adobe’s suite.
Furthermore, Instagram and TikTok offer the potential to reach a vast audience. As Valentina Chirico notes, every influencer seeks to expand their reach, and both platforms provide opportunities to present content to millions. The audience is already present; creators only need to ensure their content is visible. In contrast, blogging often requires significant effort to build an audience, especially if one is not already prominent on search engines like Google or Pinterest. Blogging typically revolves around long-form content, which can be at odds with the fast-paced consumption habits of today’s mobile users who prefer quick, engaging posts. Consequently, brands are increasingly inclined to collaborate with Instagram and TikTok influencers, sometimes overlooking traditional bloggers, which can lead to frustration for those who feel well-suited for such opportunities.
Is Blogging Entirely “Dead”?
Tumblr media
Despite predictions that blogging may decline due to the rise of social media, I firmly believe blogging remains relevant. While the audience and consumption methods are changing, with a greater focus on problem-solving content and SEO-driven traffic, blogs continue to thrive as part of a broader content marketing strategy. Additionally, blogs provide greater control and security compared to social media platforms, where accounts can be banned or deleted. Personally, blogging remains a full-time, profitable venture, proving its continued value.
Will Blog Still Exist?
Despite predictions that blogging may decline due to the rise of social media, I firmly believe blogging remains relevant. While the audience and consumption methods are changing, with a greater focus on problem-solving content and SEO-driven traffic, blogs continue to thrive as part of a broader content marketing strategy. Personally, blogging remains a full-time, profitable venture, proving its continued value.
How Will Blog Change Towards The Future
Tumblr media
Blogs somehow will find it’s way to change in several ways. As generative AI gains popularity, storytelling will take on greater significance. Blogs will evolve into tools for building personal brands, making it more challenging to stand out. Ultimately, blogs are likely to shift into digital publishing enterprises.

Happy Friday, everyone. I hope you all have a wonderful day today.
Time to give back to the community. :)
How to participate: Make a post recommending a fic you love from at least a year ago. Dust off the archives, dig through your AO3 history and share those old fics with newer fans who might not have seen them - and the fans who’ve been around forever and might want to revisit an old fave. This doesn't just need to be AO3. It could be right here on Tumblr, etc.
Please make sure that you tag @bardic-tales once you are done with your post, so I can place it on our masterlist.
NOTE: This is open to fan fiction and original work. So, even wordpress blogs, etc, counts.

Is blogging still relevant in the age of TikToks and Instagram?
Today, we will be analyzing if blogging is still relevant in the age of TikToks and Instagram and also discuss the reason behind the facts after investigating.
Tumblr media
Blog
Blogging started to become a commonplace business digital tactic ten years ago. Before then, blogs about politics, travel, food, and technology were mushrooming everywhere and serving as trustworthy resources for guidance and specialized knowledge. It turned out to be a potent approach to show up in search results and in front of a crowd that was already interested. Additionally, it was a very efficient tool for businesses to demonstrate their expertise and to share expert opinions.
Tumblr media
Instagram
Instagram started to be used alongside blogs. Most bloggers did want to use it as a way to promote blogs, like on Twitter. But with Instagram not allowing clickable links in captions, that never seemed to happen successfully. You can use the phrase ‘link is in the bio’ but it’s just not the same as clicking a link there and then.
Now Instagram has turned into something that feels like an unstoppable force and now we hear of Instagrammers, Influencers and content creators more than words like bloggers, vloggers or YouTubers. Instagram feeds are no longer snapshots of peoples Sunday roast, but highly curated images, many have images that look like they are straight out of a magazine. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, I am often guilty of getting lost in a beautiful Instagram feed.
Tumblr media
TikTok
In 2019, TikTok was the most downloaded app from Apple’s iOS app store? TikTok seems to have come out of nowhere and is everywhere. It has even infiltrated Instagram – every other food post I see is of a ‘TikTok recipe’ such as baked oats or feta pasta. Not to mention Instagram Reels – which seem to be a rip off of TikTok. Growth is hard on Instagram, but the way in which TikTok works means that anyone can go viral, even if you don’t have thousands of followers.
Tumblr media
Why has these newer platforms become popular? is Blogging dead?
Joining Instagram and TikTok is simple. You simply sign up and you are ready to start publishing. You don’t need to mess around with a DNS server, buy a domain, pay a host then install WordPress. You don’t need to find a theme and fidget with widgets. Now, it’s a lot more mobile-based. We want to quickly scroll, consume and move onto the next thing. This is why Instagram is the go-to for looking at beautiful photos and TikTok is the best place to get short, entertaining videos.
Tumblr media
Nothing has changed since then.
Despite the overwhelming presence of newer social media platforms, blogging is still a powerful tool for marketing. It's actually turbocharged. According to a recent Data Box survey titled "The Shift in Your Content Marketing Mix: 25 Marketers On What's Changed in 2 Years," 68% of marketers now regard blogging to be more successful than it was two years prior as blogging is about building relationships.
It’s about playing the long game.
To conclude, if you Take time to write your posts. Talk to your customers and build conversations. The everyday consumer is smart and has a limited amount of time. They make informed choices, not only about what they want to buy, but what they want to read. It’s only by offering your reader something truly valuable, that you’ll get the conversation started.
Your blog should always aim to answer the questions your audience has. How consumers find your content will undoubtedly evolve, but what they’re looking for probably won’t. We still need the same information we did 5 years ago, but we’re just using different methods to find it. Creating high-quality, original content will go a long way to getting results from blogging.

Independent Archive Survey
What skills do you already have in web design, web development, or site-building?
Competence Exists (>50% of respondents have this skill)
HTML
CSS
Wordpress
Competence Developing (25-49% of respondents have this skill)
Python
Other coding language
MySQL
Graphics design
Area of Need (<25% of respondents have this skill)
Drupal
Other content management system
PHP
Analysis
I debated about how best to visualize these data, which are perhaps the most complex in the survey. Being an educator and therefore used to thinking in terms of proficiency, I decided to represent the data in that way: which technical skills are most needed among potential archivists.
And, to be clear, everything on this survey is not required to run an archive. I am emphatically not a coder but have run a successful archive for many years now using first eFiction and now Drupal. I had two purposes in asking this question. First: if I make tutorial materials, where is my effort best spent? You don't have to know HTML and CSS to use Drupal, but it sure makes things (especially theming!) easier if you have at least some understanding of them. Second: where are efforts to expand options for building independent archives best directed?
On the second question, Wordpress surfaces and not for the first time. There have been various efforts and making a fanfic archive plugin for Wordpress over the years. My SWG co-admin Russandol and I even tinkered with Wordpress last year, trying to build an archive using existing plugins. From what we can find of supported plugins, it doesn't seem possible at this time.
But the data here suggest that it would be ideal if it were possible. Many fans have at least some experience with Wordpress, and some have quite a bit. The ability to provide an archive option that builds on existing competence is ideal.
I do think it's likely that respondents were underestimating their skills. I do not think that only one respondent had an expert knowledge of HTML. Unfortunately, it is difficult to define what is meant by beginner, intermediate, and expert without getting bogged down, and we fandom people are very good at imposter syndrome. ("I can't possibly be an expert in this useful thing!") I'd define "expert" as "able to do what is needed using this tool or knowing how to find information to do what is needed," and I'm guessing more than a few of the "intermediates" can in fact do this for HTML, which makes me think that all of the graphs may see an upward shift in terms of expertise levels.
What is the independent archive survey?
The independent archive survey ran from 23 June through 7 July 2023. Eighty-two respondents took the survey during that time. The survey asked about interest in independent archives and included a section for participants interested in building or volunteering for an independent archive. The survey was open to all creators and readers/viewers of fanworks.
What is an independent archive?
The survey defined an independent archive as "a website where creators can share their fanworks. What makes it 'independent' is that it is run by fans but unaffiliated with any for-profit or nonprofit corporations or organizations. Historically, independent archives have grown out of fan communities that create fanworks."
Follow the tag #independent archives for more survey results and ongoing work to restore independent archives to fandoms that want them.
