高順「御意。ところで…玉葉妃の宮に、新しい侍女を雇われたそうですね。」

Gaoshun “Gyoi. Tokorode… Gyokuyo-hino miyani, atarashii jijo’o yatowareta-sodesune.”

Gaoshun “As you wish. By the way… I heard you hired a new lady-in-waiting to serve Concubine Gyokuyou.”

壬氏「ああ。玉葉妃の侍女は４人。同じ上級妃の梨花妃が、１０人以上連れているのに比べると少なすぎる。それでは

上級妃としての矜持が保てない。」

Gaoshun “And who is this new lady-in-waiting?”

壬氏「高順、都合のいい駒が見つかったんだ」

Jinshi “Gaoshun, tsugono ii komaga mitsukattanda.”

Jinshi “Gaoshun, I found just the right pawn.”

壬氏「例のそばかすの下女だ。薬に対する知識を、利用しない手はないだろ？」

Jinshi “Reino sobakasuno gejoda. Kusurini taisuru chishikio, riyoshinai tewa naidaro?”

Jinshi “It’s just freckled servant girl. Her knowledge of medicine is too valuable to pass up.”

高順「なるほど…。ですが、その知識を悪用されたら…」

Gaoshun “Naruhodo… Desuga, sono chishikio akuyo saretara…”

Gaoshun “I see. But if she were to abuse that knowledge…”

壬氏「悪用できないようにすればいい。簡単なことだ」（念のため、色目でも使っておくか…）

Jinshi “Akuyo dekinai-yoni sureba ii. Kantanna kotoda.” (Nenno tame, irome demo tsukatte-okuka…)

Jinshi “I’ll make sure she can’t do that. It should be easy.” (I suppose I should seduce her a little, just in case.)

紅娘「玉葉様の侍女頭をしている、紅娘といいます。まずは、翡翠宮を案内するわ。ついてきて」

Hon’nyan “Gyokuyo-samano jijo-gashirao shiteiru, Hon’nyanto iimasu. Mazuwa, Hisui-Kyuo annai suruwa. Tsuite-kite.”

Hongniang “I am Hongniang, head lady-in-waiting for Lady Gyokuyou. For starters, I’ll show you around the Jade Pavilion. Follow me.”

猫猫「はい。」

Maomao “Hai.”

Maomao “Yes.”

玉葉妃「翡翠宮へようこそ。お待ちしておりました、猫猫。小鈴も歓迎してるみたい。今日からよろしくね。」

Gyokuyo-hi “Hisui-kyu’e yokoso. Omachi shite orimashita, Maomao. Shaorinmo kangei shiteru-mitai. Kyokara yoroshikune.”

Concubine Gyokuyou “Welcome to the Jade Pavilion. I’ve been waiting for you, Maomao. Looks like Xiaoling is happy to see you, too. We’re glad to have you around.”

Hon’nyan “Kokoga osetsu-ma. Okyaku-samao annai suru bashoyo.”

Hongniang “This is the parlor, where we bring guests.”

Maomao “Hiroi…”

紅娘「ここは台所。簡単なものなら作れるわ」

Hon’nyan “Kokowa dai-dokoro. Kantanna mono-nara tsukureruwa.”

Hongniang “This is the kitchen. You should be able to do some simple cooking here.”

猫猫「おお…」

Maomao “Oo…”

Maomao “Wow.”

紅娘「ここが居間。紹介するわ。翡翠宮の侍女たちよ。みんな、集まって。」

Hon’nyan “Kokoga ima. Shokai suruwa. Hisui-Kyu’no jijo-tachiyo. Minna, atsumatte.”

Hongniang “This is the living room. Here are the other ladies-in-waiting. Let me introduce them to you. Everyone, gather up.”

3人「はーい！」

San-nin “Hāi!”

Three ladies “Yes!”

桜花(インファ)「はじめまして。桜花です。分からないことがあったら聞いてね。」

Infa “Hajime-mashite. Infa desu. Wakaranai kotoga attara kiitene.”

Yinghua “Nice to meet you, I’m Yinghua. Ask me anything!”

貴園(グイエン)「こんにちは、貴園っていいます。よろしくね！」

Guien “Kon’nichiwa, Guientte iimasu. Yoroshikune!”

Guiyuan “I am Guiyuan. Nice to meet you.

愛藍(アイラン)「私は愛藍。どうぞ、よろしくお願いいたします」

Airan “Watashiwa Airan. Dozo, yoroshiku onegai itashi-masu.”

Ailan “I am Ailan. Very pleased to meet you.”

猫猫「猫猫です。お世話になります」

Maomao “Maomao desu. Osewani narimasu.”

Maomao “I’m Maomao. Looking forward to working with you.”

紅娘「翡翠宮では、下女を雇っていないので、毎日私たちが手分けをしてやっているの」

Hon’nyan “Hisui-Kyu-dewa, gejo’o yatotte inai-node, mainichi watashi-tachiga tewakeo shite yatte-iruno.”

Hongniang “At the Jade Pavilion, wo don’t hire any serving girls. So, we do all the work around here.”

桜花「玉葉様が快適に過ごすため、侍女として当然の務めよ」

Infa “Gyokuyo-samaga kaitekini sugosu-tame, jijoto-shite tozenno tsutomeyo.”

Yinghua “It’s the least we can do to make sure Lady Gyokuyou lives comfortably.”

桜花「見た？あの子の左腕…必死に包帯で隠しているけど、傷痕よね？」

貴園「きっと故郷で親から虐待されて、後宮へ売り飛ばされたのね…」

愛藍「あげくの果てには、あんなつらい仕事を…」

猫猫「えっ、あの…あ…」

Maomao “E, ano… A…”

Maomao “Hey, um…”

猫猫（ずいぶんと出世してしまったな。もともと少数精鋭だった翡翠宮。新入りが来て、いい顔がされないのは分かってた…）

Maomao (Zuibunto shusse shite shimattana. Moto-moto shosu-seiei datta Hisui-kyu. Shin’iriga kite, ii kaoga sarenai-nowa wakatteta…)

Maomao (I’ve gotten quite the promotion. The Jade Pavilion’s always been run by a select elite. So of course a newcomer wouldn’t be totally welcome.)

猫猫「だけど、あの目は…　同情？なぜに？」

Maomao “Dakedo ano mewa… dojo? Nazeni?”

Maomao “But they all looked so…… Sympathetic? Why?”

壬氏「毒見役。薬屋、お前の仕事だ。」

Jinshi “Dokumi-yaku. Kusuriya, omaeno shigotoda.”

Jinshi “Tasting for poison. That’s your job, apothecary.”

猫猫（毒……毒見役！…ああ、いけない）

Maomao (Doku…Dokumi-yaku! …Aa, ikenai.)

Maomao (Poison! Tasting for poison! …Oops.)

壬氏「妃のために作られた食事は、この部屋に運び込まれる前に、何人かの手が入る。ゆえにその途中で、毒を入れられる可能性がある。現に玉葉妃の妊娠が分かった頃、2回ほど毒が盛られた。当時の毒見役だった侍女は、神経をやられて、今も手足が動かない」

Jinshi “Kisakino tameni tsukurareta shokujiwa, kono heyani hakobi-komareru maeni, nan-nin-kano tega hairu. Yueni sono tochude, dokuo ire-rareru kanoseiga aru. Jinshi “Food cooked for the concubine changes hands a few times before being brought here. It’s possible for it to be poisoned during that process. In fact, when Concubine Gyokuyou became pregnant, her food was poisoned at least twice. The taster back then received nerve damage and still can’t move her hands or feet.”

猫猫（花街の家にいた頃は、実験と称し、腕でいろいろと試してきた。）

Hongniang “It’s like Master Jinshi said. We used ceramics on purpose to test you.”

紅娘「まさに毒にも薬にもなる能力ね」

Hon’nyan “Masani doku-nimo kusuri-nimo naru noryokune.”

紅娘「字が書けることも言っていれば、お給金はもっともらえたはずだけど…」

Hon’nyan “Jiga kakeru kotomo itte-ireba, okyukinwa motto moraeta hazu dakedo…”

Hongniang “If you’d mentioned that you’re literate, you would have gotten paid more.”

猫猫「さらわれて連れてこられたのに、今も人さらいどもに給金の一部が送られていると考えると、はらわたが煮えくり返ります」

Maomao “Sarawarete tsurete-korareta-noni, imamo hito-sarai-domoni kyukinno ichibuga okurarete-iruto kangaeruto, harawataga niekuri-kaerimasu.”

Maomao “I was kidnapped and brought here, and I’m incensed that part of my pay gets sent to the kidnappers.”

紅娘「つまり、自分の給金を減らしてでも、そいつらに酒代を与えたくないのね」

紅娘「あらら、結構高いのよ、これ。侍女のお給金じゃ払えないわ。これじゃ実家への仕送りもできない…むしろ、請求するくらいじゃないと」

Hon’nyan “Arara, kekko takai-noyo, kore. Jijono okyukinja haraenaiwa. Koreja jikka’eno shiokurimo dekinai… Mushiro seikyu-suru-kuraija naito.”

Hongniang “Yes. I’ll arrange the paperwork. By the way, here’s hazard pay for your food testing services.”

猫猫（給料と、ほぼ同額。人さらいたちに金が渡らない分、得をしたことになる。）

Maomao (Kyuryoto hobo dogaku. Hito-sarai-tachini kanega wataranai-bun, tokuo shita kotoni naru.)

Maomao (Almost equal to my regular salary… Since the kidnappers don’t get a cut of this, it all goes to me.)

Maomao “Arigato gozaimasu.”

猫猫（ぬわ～、暇だ！毒見役として呼ばれるのは、2回の食事と昼のお茶会。せっかく個室になったんだから、毒蛇でもいれば実験できるのに…）

Maomao (Nuwaaa, himada! Dokumi-yakuto-shite yobareru-nowa, ni-kaino shokujito hiruno ocha-kai. Sekkaku koshitsuni nattan-dakara, doku-hebi-demo ireba jikken dekiru-noni…)

Maomao (I’m bored! I only get called on as taster for two meals and the mid-day tea time. Now that I have my own room, if there was a venomous snake or something, I could experiment…”

壬氏「ある武官からもらったものなんだが、味見してくれないか？」

Jinshi “Aru bukan-kara moratta mono nandaga, ajimi shite kurenaika?”

Jinshi “I received these from a certain military officer. Can you taste them?”

猫猫「包子(パオズ)…。あ…催淫剤入りですね」

Maomao “Paozu… A… Sai’in-zai iri desune.”

Maomao “Baozi buns… It has an aphrodisiac in it.”

壬氏「食べなくても分かるのか？」

Jinshi “Tabenakutemo wakaru-noka?”

壬氏「もらった相手を考えると、素直に食べられないもんだろ」

猫猫「今晩あたり、そのお相手から訪問があるかもしれませんね」

壬氏「なんだ、匂いで分かるのか…」

Jinshi “Nanda, nioide wakaru-noka…”

Jinshi “Hmm. So you can tell by the smell alone?”

猫猫「こ…この男、まさか催淫剤入りと知ってて食べさせようと？」

Maomao “Ko…Kono otoko, masaka sai’in-zai irito shittete tabesase-yoto?”

Maomao “Did this guy try to make me eat one knowing they have an aphrodisiac in them?!”

壬氏「もう一つ、お前に聞きたい件がある」

Jinshi “Mo hitotsu, omaeni kikitai kenga aru.”
