Stiles is a wildlife biologist and one day stumbles upon a wolf pack during a hike through the national forest he works for. They weren’t gray wolves so at first he figures another species has finally made its was back to california but after an hour or so of studying them from a far he realizes they aren’t typical wolves and appear to follow many of the theorized versions of dire wolves.

Thinking he might have discovered a new species and a possible descendant of dire wolves he stays for the rest of the day and studies them further. He only leaves when the sun starts to set and keeps coming back to study them. He grows rather attached to the pack, especially when a particularly curious wolf comes up and introduces itself and eventually drags him by his sleeve over to meet the rest of the pack. He talks to them, tells them about how important they are and how lucky he is to be the one to have found them.

He keeps trying to publish his findings but no one else seems to be able to find them and whenever he brings a photographer out they’re always hiding. One day he brings his own camera, thinking the wolves are used to him and just scared of everyone else and he finds one of the pack dead. He doesn’t take a picture of course, feels it would be disrespectful to the creatures that so readily welcomed him. Instead he goes back to his jeep grabs a shovel and a knife before coming back to dig the poor thing a proper grave and putting down a marker with a big rock and doing his best to add an engraving. While placing the wolf in its grave he notices bullet wounds and cuts on the body and figures out someone had killed one of HIS wolves.

The next week he spends looking for a tracker that can help him find who hurt his pack -figures if they went after one they might have been going after the others too and are still possibly camped out somewhere. That leads him to Derek who agrees oddly quick considering Stiles can’t offer him much in the way of payment.

Day one Stiles leads Derek to the grave and where he found the wolf. The man does his tracker thing and starts leading them even deeper into the forest. It takes a couple of days before they find the hunter’s now deserted camp that has some bullets and gear left behind, even a gun. Derek seems even angrier than Stiles that they had only missed them by a day or so given the remains of a campfire. They stay there for the night before moving on first thing in the morning. Takes another few days before they find an active campsite with several hunters.

They try to lay low but at some point Derek loses his cool and gets them caught and subsequently captured (he had heard them talking about the pack mate they killed, not that Stiles knows that). The hunters tie them up and do their typical hunter thing which is how Stiles not only finds out about werewolves but that the dire wolf descendants he thought he discovered were really the pack fully shifted.

Anyway turns out the pack had been following their entire journey from a far and the night after Stiles and Derek are captured they attack the hunters camp. Both Stiles and Derek are seriously injured but Stiles being human is the more pressing issue. Stiles wakes up like days later in a super fancy house next to a wall of heat. The wolf that had introduced him to the pack initially which is, of course, Derek. The man had refused to leave his side since they left the camp. And once everyone is sure Stiles is alive and mostly well the pack introduce themselves as humans.

Then happily ever after and all that jazz.

you know what. im going to follow my heart so we can move on with the wormread and just copy-paste what i said about danny in chapter 6.9 on discord with some minimal editing because it's not pretty but the general thesis is there and i don't feel like making it into proper paragraph form

okay so the thing thats fucking killing me abotu 6.9 is that danny is literally like. he tries to call taylor a nickname only her mom called her once he realizes he's fucked up bad and is trying to recover whichi s insane [because it's obviously going to be upsetting to her by reminding her of her mom being gone, and it also indicates that his fall-back for something going wrong w/ taylor is to try to appeal to her by poorly copying someone else's parenting style] and he also randomly tells her about how her mom wanted to move her a grade ahead but he wanted her to stay in school with emma to make her happy. and he's been Stewing On That despite knowing it's objectively not his fault (and i am reminded of how in his interlude he spends time Stewing about how he wishes annette were there to give advice) and he also cops up to the fact that that the whole thing about "being her parent and not her ally" (<- demented thing to say for obvious reasons) wherein he locks her in a room and demands emotional vulnerability from her even as she's becoming visibly upset & compares his actions to emma's was her grandmother's idea and then. here's the real kicker. once lisa shows up and prepares to take taylor away there are any number of actions a parent confident that they're doing the right thing for their child would normally do in response--not, like, Good actions, but things that a parent would be likely to pull. threatening to call the cops bc blah blah you're my daughter, wanting to speak to lisa's parents, any form of power move pulled over these two teenage girls but instead he speaks to lisa like she's an equal authority over taylor and seriously asks if she's "okay with this" (i should remind you of the concussion chapter where lisa is doing some insane power move shit over taylors dad covertly establishing herself as more competent at caring 4 her than him lmao) which is just like. it's so glaringly wildly obvious how this guy has Zero confidence in himself as a parent so he generally does nothing and then while he's doing nothing he oscillates btwn rationalizing it to himself as allowing her privacy/dignity, getting angry at himself/calling himself a coward, or getting mad at TAYLOR and blaming HER for not being the one to take initiation to be vulnerable with him and, like. he literally does make functional decisions prior to this for a bit! he's good and supportive at the meeting with the school board about the bullying!!! but it doesn't immediately solve literal years of distance between them that have led to taylor having to take decisionmaking for her wellbeing entirely into her own hands w/o being able to tell him about it [& having literally no route for human connection or support other than the undersiders] so he just completely crumbles on his own calls and seeks out/takes completely shit advice from taylor's grandma instead so i very much think what's insinuated here is like. especially given that he knows he has anger issues and never wants to Be Scary with them. he might have frequently leaned on annette for parenting decisions before she died and/or is really fucking haunted by the time(s) he didn't listen to her and it went wrong and now that she's gone he's just kinda floundering and trying to toss the baton for parental decisionmaking onto anyone else, including, at one point, the literal teenage girl who shows up to help taylor run away from his house. insane ! also. thinking about how taylor says her grandma (maternal) never liked her dad. that man would literally rather talk to the mother of his dead wife, who hates him, and take her advice than go 'yeah ithink im gonna keep using my own judgement for compassion towards my daughter' fucking worst anyones ever done it this guy has the spine of a twizzler it's great

...and then doing All That & severely triggering taylor's trauma from the bullying in the process completely shatters any trust he had built with her, catalyzing her realization that she wants to be able to have meaningful relationships with the undersiders & leading to her running away to leave with them! i don't think anyone can say for sure whether or not danny Not doing this would have led to taylor turning the undersiders in before realizing that she would regret it, but oh fucking boy does he make SURE she doesn't go thru with it. and it would be bad to call the cops on a bunch of systematically neglected traumatized teenagers regardless of how much crime they're doing so you know what maybe we should actually thank danny for his Shit Parenting stopping taylor from being a narc

I'm having. So many Uchiha Houhua thoughts. Like I know so much of his existence is geared towards survival but. The hc of Uchiha's use of war fans,I have to wonder if he ever finds him half heartedly fiddling with a delicate seeming Tessen, remebering an old friend now far gone, just as razor edged and yet still missed.

And it may be my own fondness for the concept of a spider summons but so much of spider behavior is "Please Leave Me Alone" which is very on brand for Houhua. Camouflage and careful, delicate and yet still so dangerous, setting invisible webs between leaves and waiting for the worse predators to pass. (Also using spider venom to fuck with his heartrate for the possum jutsu maybe?)

The entire concept is so delightful and I'm very thankful to have seen all your little tidbits on it

I think it's actually especially fun to think ab like. The difference in fighting style between (Japanese) Uchiha styled war fan techniques and (Chinese) Cang Qiong Sect war fan techniques. Not even counting the much more specific Qing Jing Peak style of fan techniques.

That also goes double for sword techniques, especially considering the plans for Houhua to go into sword smithing.

Houhua has literal decades of the Cang Qiong sect sword style engraved into his fucking bones. Into his soul, even, if you consider the whole 'cultivators swords are usually tied to their spirits in some way' thing.

He's going to have the worst time trying to switch to Uchiha sword styles-- though I think the sharingan + the unfamiliar, tiny body without all the muscle memory of his past life will help him at least get his footing

I. I cant lie to u, you are making an amazing argument rn for him having a spider summons. I love the idea sm, I am now faced w the ultimate dilemma of choosing between a spider contract or a rat contract.

On one hand, they both carry undertones of like 'there might be a bit more to see here than just a coward' bc of the associated (mostly negative) connotations of rats and spiders both being like, underhanded, sneaky, that sort of thing. But the spider tho,,, ough,, it also shows a side of implied manipulation that might be fun just from the angle of like.

Yeah you'd expect him to have some sort of rodent contract but hes actually been designated spider coded by the universe, actually.

I forget if I posted this snippet yet or if I only posted it on the discord but take this really quick:

So like. This moment, where Kabuto bets Houhua will get some form of rodent contract (for obvious reasons) while Hana bets he gets a fucking worm. But now make it even funnier bc they're both wrong and he got a spider contract.

This could also maybe play interesting into Houhua and Kabuto's sort of ongoing quiet squinting in eachothers direction as they both go 'this guy isnt as simple as he seems...' as Kabuto mentally recalculates some of Houhua's behavior

This also can just bring out a pretty fun "hey so lets talk about in universe stereotypes and associations when it comes to summoning animals" which I just think is fun. Like, culturally, what does it mean to have a contracted animal? Do some people treat it like they might astrology personality tests? Do some people think its just nonsense and pure luck or not that deep?

For some people it probably isn't that deep, while for others (specifically those who might come from families who always have the same contract, or others who sign blank contracts where they really are sent to an animal that matches them best) it really is a good way to try and analyze them

And like. Where does that leave Houhua?

This could also just be fun for when he interacts w Orochimaru, who fucking hates bugs (insert my own personal favorite hc here that he hates them largely in part due to the many times he was stuck inside his own rotting body, infested with bugs)

And like, Houhua and Orochimaru will inevitably interact, though I'm not 100% sure on how it goes just yet. But like. Houhua having a spider contract and Orochimaru coincidentally hating spiders. Could be funny.

Anyways. Yeah ok I think spider contract Houhua would go pretty hard for multiple reasons. Give him a big fluffy spider with big ol eyes.

Back in 2019, I wrote a blog post called The Inequality Prototype. As part of it, I counted a bunch of stuff related to the Valar and looked at how those metrics differed based on gender. At the time, I thought it would be interesting to extend this work over the entire Silmarillion, namely looking at who speaks in the text and who doesn't. For Tolkien Meta Week, I began this work and am collecting my analyses related to it here. It is very much still a work in progress and will likely take me years to complete, but I'm going to post interesting data as I discover it.

Dialogue does not occur evenly across The Silmarillion. While a little over 5% of the words in The Silmarillion as a whole are used in dialogue, this is very unevenly distributed across the chapters, with some chapters about half dialogue and six chapters containing no dialogue at all.

There is a lot more work to be done to tease out trends and patterns that might have some meaning, but just glancing at the graph above, some of those patterns do begin to emerge. First, dialogue increases as The Silmarillion progresses. In the second half of the book (calculated by chapter, not page or word count), only two chapters have no dialogue and only four chapters (inclusive of those two without dialogue) fall below the median of 5.3% dialogue. Put another way:

In the first half of chapters, 71% of chapters are below the median.

In the second half of chapters, 29% of chapters are below the median.

Why is this? My tentative theory is that we see the book moving from the realm of the mythic—from events that are passed down through the oral tradition and ancient written traditions—and into the historical, where the narrator has a greater array of sources, including eyewitness testimony, and begins to write with greater immediacy rather than the arm's-length style of myth and ancient history.

What I am curious about: As I dig deeper into these data, will I see this theory bear out in which episodes or characters/groups are granted actual dialogue? In other words, will characters and peoples lost to the mists of time speak less, as I would expect? Or will the type of dialogue (e.g., a formal speech that may have been preserved vs. an extempore conversation that would not) vary based on narrative distance? I have documented in the past that the narrator of The Silmarillion uses the "it is said/told/sung" construction more with characters who are less accessible, so there is evidence that Tolkien manipulated writing style based on what his narrators' access to various sources. Does he use dialogue similarly to communicate that "mythic distance"?

There are also chapters that are more expository in purpose (Valaquenta, "Of Beleriand and Its Realms") that do not contain dialogue. Without digging deeper into the chapters themselves, most of those without dialogue that aren't similarly expository are chapters where the material would be less accessible to Pengolodh as a narrator. Whether this bears added scrutiny remains to be seen!

Finally, in discussing these data on the SWG's Discord, polutropos noticed something interesting, which is that the chapter with the most dialogue—"Of Aulë and Yavanna," where almost 57% of the words of the chapter are given over to dialogue—was not in fact written by Tolkien. As document by Douglas Charles Kane in his book Arda Reconstructed, "This chapter is completely manufactured by Christopher, though using his father's own writings" (page 54). Where Kane usually includes a chart pointing to the source for each bit of The Silmarillion, his chapter on "Of Aulë and Yavanna" contains no such chart because, while he is able to document where ideas came from, Christopher actually wrote the chapter.

Interestingly, "Of the Noldor in Beleriand" is the chapter with the second most dialogue and, according to Kane, "The changes made in this chapter are among the smallest anywhere in the published text" (page 154). So Tolkien does sometimes write dialogue-heavy chapters—though without data to back me up (yet! it's coming!), most of that dialogue appears to come in the form of lengthier speeches, not necessarily the debate/conversation format of Of Aulë and Yavanna."

The biggest impact of the dialogue-heavy "Of Aulë and Yavanna," I suspect, will emerge as I dig more into the data on gender and who speak in The Silmarillion. Yavanna is one of the women who speaks the most in The Silmarillion, but almost all of her dialogue occurs in this chapter. If this chapter is constructed by Christopher, how does that impact the amount of speech women are permitted by Tolkien? Polutropos' observation spurred me to plan to document the source of the various dialogue sections: Are they original to Tolkien's writings or added? Kane, interestingly, is critical of Christopher Tolkien in Arda Reconstructed for what he perceives as Christopher removing women characters from the text. In this instance, we see a significant example of the opposite: a woman's role is not only expanded, but she is given an opportunity to speak.

I actually talked about my recent new WIPS like 2 days ago in a tag/ask game. I'm just gonna copy&paste the answers here. Given they're smut WIPS ideas, I don't expect all to read it. Just tagged lots cause i'm more curious about everyone else's ideas that they've been working on, than them reading my post here lol

First WIP:

I'll state the title comes from Måneskin's song OWN MY MIND which is fitting for these idiots. Anyways, it's another smut oneshot! Because of fucking course it is. I'm ill about them. You already know how my outline/ideas are written from the last oneshot with you and the girls on discord lmao Can't believe i'm sharing this publicly compared to the server. nervous nervous nervous Anyways, my stupidity under the cut. SMUT WIP OUTLINE Idea:  Miraak orders Lilli to sing for him, his little canary. Challenges her to see how long she can continue as he goes down on her. Wants to hear her breath hitch and voice stutter. They’ve got their own (overly inflated) egos on the line here. To even the playing field, she asks him to take off the ring that offers him immunity to her illusion work (that's made for him). Curious, he follows through, though a tad hesitant. She must have an idea in mind to pair with her singing. [THIS IS AN IMMENSE AMOUNT OF TRUST, given what she can do to the mind at this point] And she does. Illusions dig into his mind, and he feels her hands all over him ― though never truly there― before settling on his cock. It was an odd thing, for her to jerk him off yet she never truly touches him, for it's all in his mind, and then he feels her mouth that's not there. Both are trying to overstimulate the other, who's attention breaks first. Lilli fails eventually though ;) Seconds before Lilli’s orgasm, he stops, denying her of it. Wants her to squirm. But oh, the whiny sob, her nails digging into his scalp. And then, to his surprise― tears.   To find her so truly overwhelmed. He's never seen her cry like this. Or at all. He loves the sight of it. Especially when it's got her cursing him, vicious, yet utterly begging for him. There's more, but that's the idea~

Second WIP idea:

named to THE CHASE (based off LuLuYam’s song that’s in the Dragonsong playlist haha) I think you can already get an idea based off the title change― I’m making a fic based of one of the fantasies in It Means Nothing (This Means Everything) "Would she make him stalk her through the tower or the libraries for her, whilst wearing almost nothing and that mischievous smile on her face? Yes, she would, and he’d follow in a heartbeat to claim her. Would she do the same, stalking for him as soon as she enters Apocrypha? She does so already." So a bit of a predator/prey dynamic. Because 👀  But it is gonna be a bit of a switch, as in Lilli’s gonna do her typically stalking first before the dynamic shifts to Miraak going after her.  That's all I've got since I'm working on the other oneshot first. But yeah, of course I've got another idea already. I'mtotallynormalaboutthem

I do have more ideas, but i'm scared to share this kind of shit in public.

PoppyPlaytime; sandwiches are contraband

I had this in the SecurityAngel discord server, but someone said it reminded them of 2010s Tumblr so I’m putting it here now, (it is copy and pasted, and it’s so long that it had to be several discord messages)

I’ve been thinking of something silly, it has SecurityAngel but it’s not really the main focus and I have no idea how to smoothly add it into the au

Essentially, it’s a “Sandwiches are contraband in accordance to the Religion of the Prototype” au

It all starts with the Player who comes into the factory of their own free will, no one sent them a letter and they happen to live within walking distance of the abandoned factory because they brought the land and built a house there with a chicken coop and a little garden with vegetables (they had a great inheritance from some random family member). They encounter Huggy just like the game, and that’s where the canon divergence begins, because for some reason they throw the sandwich they were eating while exploring screaming “THE POWER OF SANDWICHES COMPELS YOU”

They manage to get back to their house but they don’t really sleep that much in fear of Huggy somehow jumping out of their closet or behind a door like a bad or staged YouTube prank. When morning finally comes, they go downstairs so sleep deprived that they don’t notice Huggy until he slowly takes the sandwich they just made out of their hands to eat it.

This begins the comedy route where less toys are starving because some guy that lives nearby is just supplying the factory sandwiches that apparently taste life changing; when CatNap eats one he immediately bans the sandwiches because it tasted so good that he felt religious guilt over it. The Prototype has no idea why and keeps trying to get CatNap to lift the sandwich ban, leading to a split in the Prototype religion where one half rejects the sandwiches for various reasons while the other half has called the person making the sandwiches “The Angel” because why else would those sandwiches taste so heavenly?

Unfortunately, many toys rejected the sandwiches at the beginning because it was made by a former employee. That’s why the sandwich contraband is such a big deal in the playtime factory.

The guy making the sandwiches has no idea what controversy their sandwiches has generated. All they know is that the Blue Sour Patch kid comes randomly to their house for sandwiches or other types of food. Sometimes he brings others who range from miniature Huggies to a Doughman who keeps trying to eat ice cream or other frozen goods even though he falls sick everytime. Oh, and every single one of these toys call them Angel no matter how many times they try to correct them.

(Huggy’s favourite food made by the Player is a fried chicken sandwich with melted cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes in between two lightly toasted white bread slices that still have the crusts. It also so happens to be the same type of sandwich the Player had thrown at Huggy)

When the Prototype finally reveals himself and tells the Player what his sandwiches has done, all they say is “My sandwiches really did have the power to compel them…” and just end up staring at the wall for a solid hour.

Also Poppy wasn’t put in a case because the Player had come to the factory very early

And Susan Ayers is still alive because I said so

Also Harley Sawyer is the only one in the entire factory not to eat a sandwich from Player. You all can probably guess why.

They’re bitter exes, the only reason Player was able to leave Play Co. is because Harley fast tracked the paperwork they needed to officially leave the company.

When they finally see each other again, Player doesn’t want to say anything rude because Harley’s just a few organs in liquid. But that goes flying out the window when Harley “opens his mouth” (unmutes his vocaliser? Activates his speaks?) it reminds Player why they broke up. So in response, Player takes the jar Harley’s brain is in and starts shaking it like a child discovering the joys of jello, but far more violently.

Think of it like someone trying to open a pickle jar, but they’ve gotten so frustrated that they start shaking the jar and occasionally tapping the lid a little too hard against various surfaces

I did not expect to actually be asked questions! I'm surprised! I'm well aware a lot of people have issues with me and I have taken steps to address them. Well okay, I've always stated in the server and in-general that I'm a huge fan of 4 NPCs. Bailey, Gwylan, Harper and Eden. So I'll start with those!

Bailey and Eden obviously have history, having been childhood friends, so I find their dynamic and what they are in the world super interesting. Eden fled from his trauma (He has CPTSD, for those that care), while Bailey stayed to seek revenge (You can find him blackmailing Quinn in-game). That instantly to me creates interesting dynamics and real-world parallels! Bailey is also obviously here contributing to the abuse and suffering that's felt in town.

Gonna respond to your answers one by one because wowza, there's a lot to go through. Gotta say first though, shaking my hands with you so hard on finding Eden and Bailey dynamics with each other and the town so damn interesting. The way they responded to their trauma respectively says a LOT about their characters; but also, I've always been a sucker of the 'cycle of violence' theme which made me love Bailey even more than I already do 💖

Harper feeds into tropes I love. He's so weird. I've personally argued that he should use his genitalia less during sex-scenes because I am really into the idea of him just getting off using his weird brain-worms and the power of sheer autism. Puri disagrees with me on that and I do accept that sometimes what I want is just fueled by my own 'tism rather than any sort of proper design lmao.

Gwylan is just wish-fulfillment tbh. I have a soft-spot for Witchy, weird, alternative type characters. Always did. Gwylan fills that spot perfectly. Makes me like them.

Personally not much of a Harper or Gwylan fan since I just don't interact with them much in-game; but always fun to see underrated character like Gwylan being loved!

(+Obviously I'm a fan of Kylar and Sydney, their failed childhood friendships, Kylar being a child of Auriga Worshipers, Sydney of Virgo worshipers, I like the Historical references through the Ivory Wraith, I like all of the Love Interests having their own red flags, I like Avery being a serial abuser and a commentary of how easy it is for the rich to abuse the poor and write them off as nothing more than things to be abused, used or toyed with.)

Fun fact, I didn't even know Kylar and Sydney were childhood friends until I saw a fanart depicting them as such and looked it up LMAO. And we love an old rich bastard being an entitled asshole 🫶💕

For other things I like about DoL they mostly have to do with real-world comparisons, trauma, history, etc. I've made a rather long-post about how I think about the town as a result of insularism and isolation turning a pseudo-Christian faith through it's own localized schism towards what we now have with Auriga and Virgo, aka The Children (The Cult) and The Temple, and how their increased radicalization erased the middle of the town.

I also like the commentary about how easy it is to ignore and normalize violence towards marginalized groups, something Vrel spoke about in a rather good interview from 2022.

As a whole you can see I have a very heavy focus on the worldbuilding, characters and lore, and because of my personal interest in the more realistic aspects of the game or comparing them to the real world it does cause some butting of heads due to it basically being anti-escapism.

That's a definitely another take to have on the game. I'm personally not too big of a fan for the realistic aspects in a lot of medias, most of these are escapism entertainments so we're definitely on the opposite ends of the spectrum on this matter :'D

I'm very open to discussing a lot of stuff about the game, plans and lore! For the Bailey-sex thing I did argue in favor of removing it, but that wasn't anything close to a Solo-Decision. There are 5 or more people usually involved in long-term decision making with PurityGuy and Vrelnir having the final say and veto power always.

Oh no, yeah. I think a lot of the anons have agreed that it wasn't a one-man decision. I figure most of them are more irked by your message of making fun of them. Even if it's done in a playful manner, not everyone will take it as so. Especially when they are probably already irked by the sex scene removal, your comment is like a fuel added to the fire 😔

Soft-Eden is OOC, I know a lot of people like his softer side and that's good. Not all of it will nor should be removed. Mostly the stuff to do with specific dates and going into town. I argue in favor that to not harm his character too much he should get more soft-evens down the line, especially once pregnancy content rolls in. He DOES genuinely care about PC, his actions, even putting PC in a cage and such come from a place of care and worry that unless he does these thing PC will not learn and will endanger themselves.

Thankfully the Eden stuff isn't as bad as the Morgan stuff. Morgan needs an ENTIRE rewrite.

Well I can't wait to see all Eden's rewrites and future new contents. Love me their delusional romance ass <3 Also lol, I don't know anything about Morgan, so I'm just going to take your words on that. I can't comment much on the topic of Abortion in-game. It's just something we don't want to engage with. +As both cults in town (Yes tbh even the Temple is a cult), worship life and giving birth no one in town would even be willing nor able to perform it. (Yes I know this can easily be written off as just the writers being puritanical but there are just some topics we don't want in the game. It's not a pure sandbox, it's not just a life-sim. There are gonna be endings, permanent consequences, etc in the game. I think people have a right to choose what topics, fetishes, etc, they wanna engage with, and especially CREATE with as Developers, Writers, etc.)

That's a fair reason, yeah! I think if you were open about this reason being why abortion won't be in the game, it could dissuade a lot of the player's dissatisfication. The main reason why it was such a big issue is I think because no one from the dev team seems closed off about it when asked!

Another thing to note is that DoL has become HUGE, and so it's rather obvious why we'd want to steer so clear from mentions or sexualization of children. We really do mean it when we say the NPCs, LIs, etc are all adults. I'm well aware in fiction for many people anything goes. I've written Ao3 fics, I'm not entirely clueless. The dead dove has been eaten. It's chewy. But yeah, some things are just hard No because we or find it off-putting, immoral or it's outright illegal and could get people like Vrelnir in trouble. Even more so because he makes a living from DOL and donations earned through it.

That makes senses! I know a lot of commerical platforms don't allow sexual portrayal of underage or children character even in fictional context, and I have seen some notable artists being banned entirely for loli/shota contents. But it's also still fair to avoid that just cause the dev team are squicked by it. At the end of the day, it'll be rather unhealthy to create something that actively discomfort you :')

So people can literally *speak of the Devil* and I appear. Yes it's as funny as it sounds.

I do have to disagree with the 'evilness' that you act out. If someone is breaking the rules, as an admin, you have the right (even expectation) to moderate it! Be stern! Give out warnings, strike or a ban! But I just don't see how putting up this evil act is going to be helpful to prevent more rule breaking. It made it feels like there's no rule breaking happening because no moderation is being done, and that you're just picking on someone out of personal icks.

It's just overall off-putting, in my opinion. And bringing up contents made by users from their other social media unpromptly feels incredibly rude to me. They are all publically available, yes! But if someone were to suddenly show me an old, awful fan content I made without so much as a 'hello', it would definitely leave a bad taste to me - even if the intention are lighthearted and I know that, still won't change that it'll leave a bad impression to me.

How we decorate our simply plural profiles!

Also I won't be showing how to input the markdowns into simply plural! If you want to see them, they can be found here! If you've ever made a rentry, simply plural uses most of the same ones!

If you want any other tutorials or have any questions linked to this then feel free to ask! With this out of the way, here is our tutorial!

Step one: Figure out a template for the information

This is the hardest step- Personally because we are polyfragmented we use the same template for all alters on pluralkit and simply plural.

Making a template can be a pain, however there are many blogs on tumblr who make templates! Just search 'simply plural templates' and you should find accounts that do them! If you want to request, be sure to check their request status and be patient.

However, if you want to make your own, I would recommend this website for finding symbols to use and this one for emoji combos. I would also say that you may want to have your template link to your system name(s) or headspace (ie if your system has links to forest maybe a nature themed template) but obviously it's up to you what you do.

Personally we have a 'basic' template which we copy and paste but change the emoji's/decor of depending on what the alters likes.

Step two: Choose a profile picture.

This will help us decide what colors to change certain assets to and/or which ones will look best with the profile. My recommended sites fir finding icons are: Google images, Pinterest, Tumblr.

Searching things like: '[aesthetic/theme/character] icons' or '[aesthetic/theme/character] [color/aesthetic/theme] icons' does tend to bring up results.

But if you don't know what you want '[anime/aesthetic/theme] icons' or '[twitter/tumblr] icons' will bring up results as well.

In the end we settled on making an icon because there was nothing that fitted our alters needs.

Step three: Find decor

This can be very hard to do due to the fact that typing in different names for the same assets will give you different results and recourses are constantly being deleted. However, tumblr and personal websites such as carrd and rentry, are good for finding them.

However, if the website (including carrd, rentry or neocities) gets deleted then the image will become blank and won't exist. Discord also now deletes images after 24 hours, so it's not a usable site anymore. Personally, we use tumblr because if the blog gets deleted the assets remain for some reason. We've tested this a few times so far none of the images have broken and we have some from over 6 months ago- But this is subject to change.

Another thing to note is that size does matter, and some images may be too big to fit into the boxes provided by simply plural.

These are our recommended ideas, of course this is different for everyone, and we didn't go in depth about certain topics. However I d hope this is useful.

Well for a while I was annoyed by the lack of communities that focused on a kind of "hyper-feminine" aesthetic while also promoting more traditional ideas. There was also the issue of communities that have tried this before of devolving into bigoted and abusive communities that would do everything under the sun to create an insular and ToS breaking community. I spoke with a friend of mine who runs a similar community a while ago and she inspired me to give this a shot. Now - close to 3 years later - I have a steadily growing community that pulls from all corners of ideology, cultural, ethnic, and interest level and the discord has been almost completely drama-free in its whole existence.

When is Educating Bimbos?

I am alive and doing silly stuff all day, every day. Except when it is nap time in which case I will be in the realm of dreams.

What's an ex-lesbian and why do you call yourself that?

For a number of very personal reasons, I have decided to call myself an ex-lesbian. I did this of my own volition, and I was not pressured into doing so. For a long time, I had thought of myself as a lesbian, mostly because of socialization and how all the girls around me were so might as well follow suit. I experienced a number of harmful and traumatic events when I considered myself a lesbian and it effected how I view myself. After a while and talking to some friends who I trust dearly, I came to the realization that I am not a lesbian and that it really isn't a thing I identify with the same way others do. I am still trying to come to grips with that given I only relatively recently had that realization. I also feel that people use that term in bad faith to harm people and to push bad narratives and ideas so I thought "hey might as well try and take back what should be an innocuous phrase."

In short, I think an ex-lesbian is just a way of identifying one's sexuality similar to asexuality or demisexuality. It is not that I am one sexuality or another, it's that my sexuality is defined by my experience and coming of age.

I have had a number of people confront me about this, talk to me about it in sincere curiosity, and even attack me. I welcome anyone who is curious or has a genuine contention to come to me in DMs, I am not a mean person, and I will love to talk honestly and respectfully. I find that disagreement is not grounds to discredit or avoid befriending people, I hope you can do the same.

Reader is a low-tier magic-weilder (who has a secret past that involves smthn rlly Bad and they used to have a reasonable amount of respectability in th community but now theyre shunned and cant get a job anywhere and also has a big scar and/or only one eye lol) who's one remaining ability is the ability to lift minor curses or plagues. Sun has been searching for someone who can 'bless' the curse of Moon (or whatever is making Moon be nasty murderous bloodthirsty man) for ages but mages r rare and most of them spend maybe one night trying to cure Moon before either getting got or being scared into getting tf outta there

so eventually word reaches Sun of a mage who's been looking for work, with the only catch being that they arent very powerful and no one has much to say abt them, and Sun, who has burnt every single thread he has trying to find a mage, is like GOOD ENOUGH CALL THEM HERE

and reader is like 'oh shit this is potentially a rlly good job, the only catch is that i have to deal w a demon possessed guy thats like twice my height and three times as strong,,' and like. bc they have Zero Options and also feel like their life has run itself into th ground and there is little left for them/no way to get themselves out of their Issues, they r like 'yeah sure its gonna take a while bc i can only perform minor magic but i'll do whatever i can to see that this curse is delt with'

and instead of trying to face Moon head on, they start with just kinda,, getting to know him. he's kept chained/locked away in a chamber every night to keep ppl safe, but every night reader goes into the chambers, sits at a tea table just out of his reach, and just. talks with him

they dont entertain his trying to mess w them, taunting, cruelty, etc, but they talk when there's the chance for standard conversation. at first it's hell bc Moon is a little shit and he never cooperates. he never answers questions, he spends the entire night threatening to tear them apart and savor their insides, etc. they bring him a cup of tea every night, and every time he smashes the cup and throws the pieces at them

ok well point is eventually Moon starts to mellow out around them, will actually sit and have conversation with them, one day is like 'you think i dont know what youre doing?? youre just trying to bore me into falling for ur trap so u can kill me. i like ur style but its not gonna work >:3'

and reader is like 'i literally do not have enough magic to kill a toad let alone a whole entire possessed person' and moon is like ',, huh. so what IS ur goal here??' and reader is like 'i want to lift ur curse for both u and Sun's sakes. i gave u my word, and i will follow through, at the very least to clear my own conscience of a past sin'

and so eventually Moon, out of curiosity, and later bc he likes spending time with reader, starts letting them cast the healing magic on him, breaking the curse little by little every night

and at the same time all this is happening, reader is spending mornings and evenings with Sun and keeping him up to date on how the process is going and, eventually, becoming the person he turns to when he's stressed or tired or rlly just wants company

and idk smthn smthn eventually both of them rlly want Reader and they dont know how to act so they just b making fools of themselves but reader is a dumbass so theyre just confused

(Moon absolutely tells Reader abt every 'oh man i rlly wanna kiss kiss snuggle smooch the mage rn' thought Sun has during the day but Reader is so used to Moon being a little shit n making shit up to mess with them that they r just like ._. )

the plot twist part,,

(the secret dark past that reader is hiding is that they used to be a local mage for a nearby town who was known and respected for giving 'blessings' to ppl for small fees but one day for Reasons, they cast a curse upon someone and one of the biggest no-no's a mage can do is Curse someone so the town practically rioted, tore them down from their pedestal, called upon another mage to strip reader of their magic, and then cast them out)

(rn im considering the idea that the person reader Cursed is Vanny, who, because of her own curse, eventually went on to be the one who cursed Sun and Moon)

Sakura as a Fertility god (of sorts)

Suo as a higher god, more commonly considered a god of wisdom or strategy

Context thoughts: ‘Higher’ gods encompass more aspects of the world and have more power available to them.

Suo would be a higher god bc wisdom and strategy relate to so much, especially with how following/worshipping him works—it’s very much like being a monk with lots of meditation, limiting worldly desire, and self-improvement based on one’s own self-restraint.

mw sakura wouldnt be the god of the ‘romantic’ aspects of fertility (despite the sort-of purity/innocence he has in his personality) but instead represents the products of fertility and how they may not appear as perfect and pristine as people associate babies with (to kinda tie in with how his appearance is naturally so different), possibly being a god that relates more to birth defects or “less desirable” traits in offspring.

i imagine suo to be one of the higher gods but with a modest disposition, that comes to sakura initially to see for himself what the "god of depravity" (as sakura is known as, given that many mortals would unfortunately associate birth defects with some depravity involved in the conception of the children) was really like. for a bit he thinks sakura is the god's aide, since he doesn’t match the descriptor, in his opinion, but realizes sakura is that god, and his interest is piqued.

so he visits often, tries to get to know him. enlists his aide (once a mortal follower that turned into a low-ranking deity through devotion), Nirei to help him break through sakura's icy front, and realizes sakura is a special one

sakura is the type of deity to listen for any mortal’s prayers and answer when higher gods were too busy or too uncaring of their followers' pleas. he'd never take the credit, just quietly help them where he could, and then continue along to the next. suo wondered where Sakura found all the time to do that (not that he was one to talk, technically, but its not his fault that prayers to him were rarer, given that his followers engaged with his teachings of staying at peace with one's life as-is, and self-improvement from within) but he finds out that sakura, despite being a deity, wasnt prayed to--not directly.

he is more scorned, cursed. invoked, like a threat, like an insult. sakura ignores requests that wish harm onto others' children--born and to-be-born, even if they are the only prayers sent his way, even if ignoring them hurts his godhood. it’s almost like sakura's nature as a deity is to be a lightning rod for ill-will. a weapon that chooses when it can be used.

suo admires that, decides to take a page out of sakura's book.

So Suo helps with prayers that his powers will work on, ones that sakura cant (because sakura will sit before a prayer and wrack his brain with fervent desperation, looking for a way--any way-- that his powers can be useful, will set it aside with self-loathing and frustration when he realizes he's powerless to the mortal's struggle, and trudge off with a look in his eyes that makes suo ache a little on his behalf)

That’s what I’ve got so far for my thoughts on this, since I went on a little bit of a ramble in discord about SuoSaku god stuff—the other two thoughts were: God!Suo and sacrifice!Sakura and God!Sakura with devout follower!Suo, who gives up his eye as an offering to his god.

what does your writing process look like?

Okay so step 0: become haunted

Invariably, a scene manifests in my head, and the longer it sits there, the stronger the urge to write it becomes. Not all scenes make the cut-- there's a lot of ideas that don't meet my standards of IC, and others that would be good, but require more work to develop than I'm willing to invest. I'm avoiding working on any intentional multichaptered fics until Permission Slip is finished, so those ideas stay on the shelf.

Usually the tipping point is when I realize I've worked out the specific wording to start writing it down, and then it's all ogre.

Step 1: write

I go to the appropriate file (all of my SAMS fics start on one of three documents: Eclipse-focused, Ruin-focused, and NSFW. Permission Slip is all in its own file as well), pick a spot between the existing WIPS, and write down the scene that's in my head. Usually there's multiple by this point, and I often end up with about 1200 words of 3 or 4 scenes as a starting place. About half the time I'll go back and add a brief summary, just to keep track of what it is I wanted to do, but I've found that extensive outlines actually discourage me from writing, cos my brain is like "oh you already did it"

Step 2: write some more

The 3 or 4 scenes I've written have gaps between them, often pretty big ones, so I just fill in those gaps with more scenes. Over and over, until there are no more gaps. This can take anywhere between a couple of sessions to several months.

8'D and yeah that's it. Give it a good readthrough for errors and publish to AO3.

I don't write sequentially. Instead, i move from most to least interesting, writing whatever scene happens to be in my head and filling in the gaps later. I've found that the tough bits will always be tough, and I don't want to fight through them to get to what I really want to write, only to no longer be interested by the time I get to that part. This doesn't work for everyone, and some folks do better when motivated by the reward of writing the good bit.

Google Docs has an Outline feature, so each WIP gets at least a temporary title so i can navigate to it easily. For Permission Slip, I also use the outline to move through the chapters without a lot of scrolling, giving the active sections little names to keep up with them.

Permission Slip also DOES have an actual outline... kinda. Actually, it has two. One is a general outline of events over the course of the whole story, kept in the 'notes' section of the document. The other is the short, scene-specific outlines that get jotted down for each section. A multi-chaptered fic is really just a bunch of oneshots, if you think about it.

General advice:

Keep a 'Graveyard' document of all the scenes you've cut. It's so much easier to admit to yourself that something isn't working when you know it won't be completely deleted, and you can go back later and maybe yoink some stuff off the cutting room floor.

Share tidbits with your friends on Discord. Write a little section you think is particularly good? Copy+paste it and share it with someone you know will cheer you on!

The style for these guys is a whole lot looser than my SunPest lineup because I may or may not have made the canvas like 7835 pixels by 4604 pixels. Whyy did I do that lol? That's also why Discord isn't here lmao ;w;

From left to right we have:

Princess Twilight Sparkle, matriarch (she/her)

Starfall Swirl, eldest child (she/they/he)

Eldritch Whispers, middle child (he/they/it)

And Cryptic Cipher, youngest child (they/them)

I don't have a ton to say about these guys for right now since I'm still deciding what I want their dynamics to be like and what the family dynamic ought to be like as a whole.

Generally my ideas for them are Incredibly Charming Wizard Dork (SS), Silly Prankster with Comprehension of Horrors Beyond the Mortal Realm (EW), and Reclusive Prodigy with a little bit of Elphaba influence (CC)

They received very minimal changes. Overall they feel a bit less saturated which is shame (can't wait for Tumblr to desaturate them even more). Wonder if I did that on purpose I literally don't even know I drew these almost four months ago lol.

Extra Notes While I'm Thinkin'

- Starfall Swirl probably attends magic school with Solar Flare and acts as her biggest rival, albeit unknowingly. Starfall isn't nearly as competitive as Solar and is a bit slow to understand social cues the unicorn may be sending her way. Solar: *glaring at Starfall menacingly for getting a better score on a magic exam* Starfall: "Wow I sure am glad I don't have an intense stare like that. People would think I was mad at them all the time!"

- Eldritch Whispers very likely spends a lot of time training his chaos magic with his dad. Discord helps him learn to use such powers expertly, a skill that is mandatory if Whispers wants to use his magic to help ponies. I imagine he dreams of sealing away various incomprehensible horrors that slip through interdimensional rifts that pop up here and there in Equestria. I'm sure those are nothing to worry about.

- Cryptic Cipher is entirely focused on arcane codes and ciphers. They are quite gifted at making ones of their own, but they also specialize in decoding the ancient magic they research. Their primary occupation is doing such work. They strive to help further Equestria's understanding of its history, back to the era of Grogar and Gusty the Great.

- Cipher's magic also works much more similarly to how unicorns' magic does, as opposed to Draconequi (?). They can't use magic to levitate and have to use their wings for flight, and their horn acts as their only spellcasting focus (they can't cast spells by snapping their fingers, etc.)

- Starfall and Whispers can use magic using their horns (unicorn style) AND ALSO cast spells just by thinking/willing them (draconequus style).

- Starfall prefers using her horns to cast magic, as she was mainly taught that way by her mother and by other magic teachers at her magic school (all of whom were ponies).

- Whispers, however, is a lot like his dad in the way that he often simply snaps his fingers to cast a spell. BUT the rings of his horn glow whenever he uses any kind of magic. It can be hard for him to sneakily cast spells lol.

Chira can you share all your Hamlet thoughts/feelings/hot takes/headcanons because it's also my favourite and I love hearing what people have to say about it. It's one of the things I can't shut up about. Could talk for hours!!!!!

Here I will copy/paste straight out of discord the last time I went off about my opinions on Hamlet to a friend:

I have no idea how Hamlet makes sense to people if he wasn't young (16-17, 21 tops), because everything he's about is this kid who is incredibly overwhelmed with the knowledge that his father has been murdered but he also has literally fucking no one to grieve that with, because he can't trust anyone. And it's not as simple as accusing his uncle, no one would believe it, least of all his mother.

So of course he gets it in his head that the only real vindication and closure he can get is to somehow force people to see the truth for themselves and believe it as a way of finding some kind of freedom from his burden. And he's a little too smart for his own good because he manages to get by with being completely irony poisoned and making sure no one gets a clear read on him, but at the same time he gets so irony poisoned that people either credit him with being a 9D chess master or losing insincerity to himself.

like, I remember early on that love letter he sends Ophelia that everyone remembers -- Doubt that the stars are fire, etc etc

Out of context it sounds extremely romantic, but in context the scene is Ophelia's dad is reading out the entirety of Hamlet's letter to Ophelia to his uncle and like half the court, and they're all bagging on him for being so bad at poetry. And hell Hamlet drops the rhapsodizing halfway through the letter to go "yeah yeah I know I'm bad at it but don't think for a second I don't love you all right? you're the most important person to me"

and if I remember correctly he slips in a line where's like, no matter what happens don't ever think I don't

So later on when Ophelia's dead and Hamlet's told about it and all his friends are like "come on why are you pretending you care, you were never there and you bullied her" and Hamlet loses his shit in this big monologue about how he loved her with the strength of a thousand suns and whatnot

But by then it's supposed to be like, who are you trying to convince, them or yourself?

And I think that on its own is pretty dense interpretation, but I personally would go so far to say leaving it there still assumes that Hamlet was insincere to begin with, or lost his sincerity because people look back on that letter to Ophelia like

he was writing it to Ophelia

so her dad would read it

so then his uncle would hear it

and they'd all believe some other bait trap on how to fool them

like some master chess move

when, like, no one actually considers the more obvious option:

That he was perfectly sincere in that letter, that he not at all expected Ophelia to give it to her father, and that he actually was just that bad at poetry (not fake being bad, actually bad) and trying to tell her to trust him through what's gonna be a real rough time and to not believe what he says to her when he's acting all weird to people

Which makes Ophelia failing to trust him and kill herself even sadder because Hamlet's rage monologue in response to it would kind of then look more like... Count of Monte Cristo's moment of realizing he fucking went too far and 'what have I done' thing in chasing his ambitions

Like, it involved a casualty of someone who wasn't supposed to be in the crossfire, but furthermore it happens to be the girl he adores and he's the one that kind of gaslit her into it.

That's more of a kid that's way in over his head and realized he fucked up, and makes more emotional sense than some guy trying to act like a whacky mastermind to me

that's basically it. Everyone looks at that letter being like "aha he was fake being bad at poetry to make everyone just think he's a morose teen with a crush" kind of thing but like…. being a teen with a crush is what he would be

I don't understand people treating hamlet like he doesn't have emotional consequences for himself instead of just being a depressive vengeance obsessive teenager spiralling out of control

that he's trying for something and fucking failing at it despite how smart he is at it

because he's a kid who feels alone and can't trust anyone with why he feels alone, and this is the best way he knows to get people to actually understand what he's dealing with

since everyone's like "what's wrong hamlet!!!" acting really worried and fussy over him being depressed and he won't fucking say

it just makes like… more reasonable sense as a human person to view it that way honestly, at least to me personally
