Star Crest:
The star crests were created by Euphrasie, so she could cancel out the King's Tears when they fought. His power overwhelmed hers, so Euphrasie ran, scattered the crests, and then scattered the orbs and blessed Mirabelle. Her blessing for Mirabelle was created using the same Wish Craft she'd used to make the crests. Euphrasie had originally had the crests (the metal part) made to make lockets for her, the King (when he went by Gwendal), and Amabilis and then started repurposing them for using them to fight the King after Corbeaux froze. The King couldn't bring himself to destroy the crests and instead put Nostalgie Sadnesses in the rooms where the crests were to guard them.
Symbol meanings:
◇ tear drop
▪︎ for Amabilis
▪︎ always wears mourning lockets for Marte and other Asmu'urian rebels that were executed
◇ clock, without hands
▪︎ for Euphrasie
▪︎ has been studying Time Craft for years
▪︎ always late
◇ star
▪︎ for Gwendal
▪︎ stars are important to him

there is something about magic systems that borrow from a specific craft that makes them so special. Maybe it’s because they feel more tangible and it’s very easy to get swept away by the passion for the craft that is clearly written on every page.
Whether it’s the art based magic system in Witch Hat Atelier. Or the translation based magic system in Babel. Or the alchemy/chemistry based magic system in Fullmetal Alchemist.
The relation to a specific craft makes the characters passion for their magic feel so personal and relatable. Because there is magic in art, in translation, in chemistry and any other craft that people partake in. The magic system becomes a love letter towards creation and everyone who creates and there is nothing world building wise that could be more charming.

i love inhuman siffrin aus so I made my own
AU where people from the island are instead fallen angels
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'll probably post more about this when I have ideas more fully formed (I came up with this about 4 hours ago at 3:00 am) but for now here's a few little details: 1: Angels hail from a place called Celestia. Their powers are heavily connected to space and the Universe.
2: Fallen angels are typically angels that were banished to the mortal realm for one reason or another
Siffrin was not banished, and instead fell in a freak accident as a child
3: The number of wings and halos an angel has increases as they age and grow in power. The average adult angel has two halos and 6 wings.
Siffrin has only one halo and four wings because he fell as a child
The king has three halos and ten wings because he is strong as hell
I love worldbuilding (especially around magic systems) and I will post more about this au when I have more concrete ideas about how everything works.

Hands down funniest part of sunrise on the reaping is when the capitol propaganda minister goes “damn all of this would be so much easier if we just had that old timey technology that let us make footage of anyone anywhere in any situation” and then two chapters later he goes “here’s an exact body double of the kid we killed last night. It’s such a convincing fake that only one person might notice”

Morrowind's Constant Effect Enchantments
In Fallout universe, the Supermutants who use stealth technology, inevitably become addicted to it, manifesting maladaptive behavior, paranoia, delusions, affected speech, brain damage, and most commonly of all, schizophrenia.
In Morrowind, players often try to outdo each other with the cumulative magnitude of their constant effect Chameleon enchantments—a spell which grants them near invisibility.
Collate 1 and 2, won't you.

Officially headcanoning Claude as an alchemist specifically bc I think alchemy existing in the isat universe would be cool as heck and Vaugarde would make the best alchemists.

Pleaseeee tell us more about your TC lore :3c it's been a delight to see old mc art in this day and age and the middleschooler in me is having a blast
cracks my knuckles . chat ur in for a long one and this is just basics
TC lore okay basics . world works like if minecraft and real life were combined . game things yknow . think mcsm .
World is split up into three sections, the main lands (occupied by players), the oceans (occupied by various aquatic races), and the farlands (occupied by elves), as seen here,
Tumblr media
Elves are quite uncommon in the main lands ! Most fled to the farlands when notch ascended to godhood or whatnot
TC's story mainly takes place in the main lands !
got that cool okay now for actual tc things
TC is a sort of special group sent on various missions to keep the main lands safe. Sometimes they are in battles and sometimes theyre just off to go meet some king or smth
For a majority of the story, several aquatic nations are at war with many land kingdoms. The war started right after a major virus outbreak (zombie infection if you will, taken from Endstone and the older Truemu stories)
Okay time for the actual team in . Almost oldest to youngest order (Except for ssun and husky)
Ssun is the 'leader' of tc, being the second eldest and the one with the most combat knowledge. He's pretty against anyone else going on combat missions, this guy is a boydad . Unfortunately his eyes are sensitive to light, so hes rockin shades all the time to help
Tumblr media
Husky is the healer, being the eldest he prefers to be out of direct combat. They're the glue that keeps the team from falling apart, being the one that has the braincell .
Tumblr media
Mitch is the best up front fighter for the team! He's literally coded to be a fighter, and good lord does he get even better once he gets his fancy sword (as seen in the Warzone music video). He is the one token straight, and is very brutal with his words
Tumblr media
Jerome is the second best fighter ! He is a heavy hitter, switching between an axe and a mace for fights ! hes the family dog and weighted blanket /j
Tumblr media
Sky is the second team 'leader', despite his lack of braincells, hes pretty good at quick thinking! They keep the morale up and often is the "face man" ! this guy just fucking rocks shades for no reason . adhd central pt 1 over here
Tumblr media
Ty is. well . hes there. Hes there to look good and to chew gum and hes all out of gum /j (Ty and sky are a package deal)
Tumblr media
Jason ! He's the mechanic (and the dj)! Fuckin guy made his own spacesuit and weapons ! Everyone else out here using swords and bows this guy is using literal guns ! His suit doubles as mobility aids (Specifically his lower half, his boots / leg pads have support and compression sleeves built in :]) adhd central pt 2
Tumblr media
Seto ! this guy is the youngest of the team, often put outside of combat both because hes not built for it and Ssun will not let a kid fight. He uses his magic to help defend and distract the enemy! this fuckin guy is autistic as hell, but thats okay his spinterest in magic and elven history helps alot
Tumblr media
okay time for out of context fun facts that i may expand on more later someone remind me to do that
there are two types of players, born and spawned (Age is based on body age, not how long one has been conscious), all mobs and elves are born, but not all players are spawned (or human)
Jason, sky, ty and seto are all under the trans umbrella ! Trans rights and wrongs
Jason was trapped in space for 4 going on 5 years . its where he taught himself how to build suits (Even with many failure)
Ty is somehow the most mentally stable team member
no one here is fully human. the one closest to being fully human is like . Jason i think
They r one big happy family chat trust me

parallels between baru cormorant and the locked tomb have already been drawn by many people, but if for some reason you hunger for another book series where the magic system is the economy you should try out max gladstone's the craft sequence

I can't sleep until I stop thinking about this oc au so here's some craft. Thanks to the ISAT wiki craft page for being my reference for who would be what
Allison is rock type. Because in canon she diggy hole. But also because of general defensiveness and she WOULD be a tank if she were rpgified. Watch this girl take blows to protect everyone else while disregarding her own hp.
Aelia is scissors type. Hit fast, hit first, win. This totally did not bite her in the ass I dont know what you're talking about. It also makes her weak to Allison and idk that's fun to think about and will certainly not affect how I write her in the future
Mace is originally rock type, but he learns of island and becomes a master of all types through wishcraft (post king). He's initially very much a support, big on boosting his allies, but when he learns of Overpowered Craft he's like shit I gotta get a hold of that. And this totally doesn't lead to an inflated ego and a tear between himself and his humanity.
Malachi is paper but he learns scissor craft. I mean that man was BORN to make things. Born to create. He knows how to use what he has to his advantage. Then he gets really salty and starts taking matters into his own hands all determined like which is cool if it didn't involve slaughter. Actually maybe he's the one who wished away the island. Hold that thought.
Adrian is paper type. Man's is LITERALLY number one evil scientist inventor person. He makes things for a living. He plays with things just to fuck around and find out. I think Adrian would have Changed like. 50 times throughout his life. #1 body craft user.
Its been too long since I've caught up with the rest of the characters but I'm trying my best
Lemmon. Hm. Rock type but also does paper craft. I feel like if you're #1 supporter of anarchy and revolution you gotta be able to stand your ground + make something of the world around you yknow
Cosmo could be rock craft! I was looking to see if i can find any justification but I realized how galaxy/space inclined Cosmo is so actually they're from the island as well. I have no evidence to support rock type.
Arachnid may be paper craft. They know about the island but wont be saying shit.
Sleepy. Scissor craft?
Ender miight be scissors
I could go on but its so very late and I think I spent way too much time thinking about the last few people with nowhere near enough knowledge for me to have attempted lmao

History:
The orbs were Crafted at the same time as the House's front gate, so only the orbs can unlock it. This was done when the House was still a castle, and the orbs were imbued with all kinds of Craft, so if invaders tried to use Craft to open the gate, their Craft would only get absorbed to strengthen the shields. When making their initiation vows, housemaidens at Dormont feed a bit of their Craft into the orbs. This connection to the orbs is how Mirabelle can sense them and how Juliet found the 5th orb.
Siffrin:
The orbs reacting to the Dead Zone also reacted with the Craft from the virus -- like being hurt dekm debris from an explosion. The virus was Crafted using a combination of Body, Healing, shielding, Scissor, and Wish Crafts. When they put the orbs back into the gate by themself in Act 5 he ends up having a similar reaction, though not as dramatic or intense. When Mirabelle is around, her attachment to the orbs keeps the reaction small enough that Siffrin barely notices it after the first few times. So in Act 5, he's already injured going into the House, and the only one he can get blood from is the King.
Dead Zone:
Since the orbs were Crafted in such a similar way as a Dead Zone, the orbs are capable of creating a path in the shape they make, their shields repelling each other. The reacting Crafts can end up making a lot of noise, usually sounding like bells or ricocheting metal.
Reason:
All the places the orbs were sent are places Euphrasie had gone to get information about Wish Craft, which she'd first learned about in Corbeaux. Euphrasie hoped that Mirabelle would fins her files and notes and find a way to use Wish Craft to defeat the King.

World-Building in Fantasy Writing: Crafting Unique Realms
In the realm of fantasy writing, the creation of worlds is an art unto itself, a meticulous process where each word, each detail, bears the weight of building something extraordinary. The task is daunting, for within these words, worlds must spring to life, realms that breathe and stir with unique cultures, landscapes, and histories. In this exploration of world-building in fantasy writing, we…

Magic Ideas
Okay, so I have had this idea for a really cool type of magic that I really want to work into a story, but I haven't done it yet. (also first time posting, so sorry if I don't do this right) Spinning Light. Partially inspired by Kvothe's shaed in the King Killer Chronicles. Partially inspired by the vibes of Blue Isn't The Warmest Color by lady_of_innisfree on Ao3. (also because from the Circle of Magic series and Sandry's book, the concept of fiber magic has been living in my head rent free)
The concept is really hit me when seeing beams of light. Like the light that comes through clouds and looks like a whole physical beam. or the lights in theatre with a little bit of a fog machine, or the light that comes through spotty in car windows that looks like a solid ray of light.
Now take that and combine it with every single Cinderella-esque fairytale that my little Grimm obsessed self read when I was little. Most feature 3 stunning dresses. The first as radiant as the sun, the second shines like the moon and the third glitters like the stars.
I promise I'm getting to a point, so stay with me. add a dash of Rumpelstiltskin, and you get.
Spinning Sunlight like it's wool. sunlight, moonlight, starlight, shadows. making it into yarn or string which can then be knit, woven, embroidered, you name it.
Sunlight gathered at different times would have different properties. Noon sunlight would be almost pure white, a almost harsh kind of light. Like sunlight reflecting off of snow in winter, nearly blinding, but essential nonetheless. Dawn sunlight is yellow and soft and warm.
But why stop there, now that we've established it possible to spin light, and a lack of light what's to stop from spinning other things like the wind, the sound of a creek, or the sound of a song.
Of course the obvious answer is, nothing. It's just much more difficult. To spin something you have to understand it, have a sense for what it really truly is. (drawing back to True Names)
This can go so far as the fates spinning an entire life or fate, and at some point it becomes indistinguishable from the life or fate itself. This can be extremely dangerous, but may be how the fates have their power (in this world of my own devising, not a general theory on the historic greek fates)
I just think this could be the coolest power ever, I always feel like spinning yarn is like doing magic when I do it, so I thought that this was super cool

Okay I saw this and the first thing I thought was "oh these folks would be powerful new wizards in MisMag"
Because fiber is material. Holding a design or pattern in your mind is intention. Spinning and twisting and knotting are all performed, repetitive movements. Making anything by hand takes significant time. And anyone who crafts knows the rare power of a location that has both good light and enough surface area to keep all your scraps and tools and snacks within arm's reach.
Like, imagine waking up one day to the realization that your niche (and probably undervalued!!) skill in tatting lace or spinning yarn or knitting mittens means you're now an advanced wizard capable of deep, cosmic magic.
(Anyway @quiddie is a genius and I truly cannot stop thinking about systems of magic now)
